After I finished my deliveries, I swung back, and she delivered !! she promised the best Long Island iced tea, and she didn't just meet expectations, she knocked it out of the park. Beyond the drink, Kendra was an outstanding host friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. For food, I ordered a burger, fries, and a cheeseburger, and they were off the chain. Everything tasted fresh and cooked to perfection, making the whole experience that much better. Kendra and this location deserve kudos. We were starving one night and couldn't find any restaurants that were open late. We stumbled across this place on the way back to our hotel. The restaurant was clean and there's an outdoor area to smoke hookah as well. Our server was so sweet and we absolutely adored her! The food did take a while on the wait but the portions were pretty huge for the prices. We had the following: Appetizer sampler (hummus, tirosalata, tzatziki, and baba ghanouj. served with fresh pita) - 8/10 - this was so fresh and delicious! All the dips were made fresh and covered in olive oil. The pita was baked fresh and went so well with the dips! The sizes of the dips were massive and we had plenty to take back to our hotel. It took me back to Greece and it made me super happy. I love eggplant and the baba ghanouj was smokey, creamy, and so much eggplant flavor. There was a dip that I haven't tried yet called tirosalata and it's made with feta cheese and garlic and topped with oregano and olive oil. That was probably my second favorite dip next to to the baba ghanouj. It was tangy and enjoyable on the palate. The hummus and tzatziki dips were also hits and we enjoyed every single bite. We had some leftover and the sweet waitress gave us some extra fresh pita bread to take home. Castoria chicken salad - 8/10 - my friend had this and really enjoyed it. It had lettuce, jalapeno, grilled chicken, cucumber, tomato, onion, and avocado in a garlic aioli dressing topped with cheese and pita chips. She said it was one of the better salads she's had and was super fresh. the portion size was huge and she had plenty to take back to enjoy later. I tried some of her salad and I agree, it was delicious. Greek Souvalki wrap - 7/10 - my husband had this with the Greek fries and he seemed to like it. It was good, but he said he's had better ones. The pork tenderloin was tender and flavorful and he enjoyed the fries (had feta cheese on them). The fries were fried perfectly, golden brown with a satisfying crunch to them. The feta cheese crumbles on top were an excellent addition to the hot fries as it melted onto them. Overall, we would come back again if we're in the area. The prices were pretty decent for the portion sizes. The only slight complaint was that the food took a while and we were getting tired as it was getting pretty late. After a not so good experience at Takis (last week) in the Villages, we took an hour drive to try Acropolis. We started off with the avgolemno soup and it was not good. I had to get up and get salt and pepper. It was super lemony so I didn't have high hopes for our entree. Then the gyro platter came out presented beautifully but it wasn't until we took our first bites and we were overjoyed with our choice. Absolutely perfect, definitely shareable and we would consider going back to this restaurant to try other food options. At Takies the music stopped playing and here the same thing happened. Music was playing and then it stopped for about 10 min until the manager most likely noticed and he went and turned it back on. What's with these Greek restaurants. Put music on a loop so it never stops playing. Anyways the booths were big and comfortable, the restaurant was a very good size. The ladies room needs some help. There were chunks of wall missing. I have t been hear in over a decade. In the past before I moved states, I would frequent the Ybor location but when the way they made falafel changed (many moons ago) I became less of a patron. I also have to say that coming back from TX, I miss Greek food and Tampa and surrounding areas have a very nice selection to choose from. That being said, while the establishment looks very different on the inside it's very clean, everyone is very nice, the service was lovely and the food tastes exactly how I remember it. Simple ingredients, a great dressing, fresh food quality food and a quick pop in for lunch was perfect for my first time back. I'll be back for a morel lively dinner at some point but great to know it's still the great tasting food I remember. Decided to try Acropolis for lunch and had the gyro lunch platter. They don't have a designated lunch menu but it indicates that the handhelds could be lunch items. The greek fries is an additional cost. The gyro was extremely filling and very tasty. In my 5 decades of daily restaurant experiences, this by far was the worst food, and experience I ever had. First of all, the service was bad, we constantly had to stand up and go look for help after extended wait times between ordering and delivery of our food, and once it was delivered, the wrong items were produced without apology. After an extended wait time, the food that was delivered looked like it was sitting around for hours, tasted horribly and was cool. this was addressed to the server, and he said he was going to get the manager. The manager never came And we were left there for an extended period of time after asking a staff member for help, Eventually, the server came back and sheepishly apologized without offering any consolation, replacement food, etc. They also charged for items that were not disclosed at the time of ordering. After eating a portion of the meal, that was undercooked, with bad texture, I got very food sick hours later With results that I will not detail... Worse than being overcharged with horrible food, presentation, and service, we were made aware that the staff was offering customers a 10% discount to pre-post positive reviews on apps. Therefore, don't believe the positive reviews as that's what led me to the restaurant to begin with And resulted, and not only getting ripped off, but sick afterwards. While visiting Tampa, I have been trying to broaden my local restaurant horizons. Yesterday I was super excited to try Acropolis, in New Tampa, as a lover of Greek cuisine. I made a plan to order take away after my afternoon walk. The space was large and had a hip little vibe with pleasant staff. I excitedly placed my order for the Saganaki and Salmon Siros, which was touted as a salmon filet over orzo with roasted vegetables. $40 and 15 minutes later, I was on my way home with glee. That glee quickly became dismay when I looked in my bag. The "Saganaki" was a triangular pita bread with hard, extremely greasy cheese on top and a very pungent odor that filled the house. I decided not to judge before a taste...I took a nibble and it was worse than I feared...super dry, salty and off-putting..nothing like any Saganaki I have ever eaten. Next I opened my entree and saw what I can only describe as a soupy mess. The salmon was swimming in soupy/cheesy orzo and the smell, again, was quite unappetizing. One bite and I knew this was a strong no for me. I removed the salmon and attempted to "rinse" it off and re-spice it..figuring I would salvage some part of my money/meal and have it with the provided roasted vegetables. That did not work either..the salmon was rubbery and laden with bones and the roasted vegetables were soggy with zero flavor. I really wanted to love the food at Acropolis but to my utter disappointment and expense, I discarded the entire meal. Conveniently located near the courthouse acropolis took over the space from dove cote. I met a friend for lunch here. Pepsi products for those who are brand loyal. We shared the saganaki and the calamari. The calamari was cold. I could do without the cognac on the saganaki. It gives it a very nutty flavor. For our meals, I have the moussaka. There a weird spice in this. It reminds me of cinnamon. Again, my red sauce was cold. I would not order it again. My friend got the falafel. She never mentioned if she liked it or not but I noticed she didn't finish it. I probably would go back again in the hopes it was just an off day. My review is solely based off of my experience. Although my food was good the customer service was not. I called in an order for pick up. I ordered their Greek Trio special, when I went to the bar to pick up my order the young lady came to see if I needed assistance. I told her what I ordered, as I was prepared to pay for my order. She checked the bag of food that was waiting to be picked up to see if it was mine and put it back down and went to the kitchen I'm assuming to check on my order. She returned and says, give me a minute. She walks to the hostess desk and starts holding a regular conversation that had nothing to do with checking on my food order because I stood there warching her. I stood there for at least 5-7 additional minutes before a man came from an opposite door (I'm assuming he was the Manager) and asked had I been helped. I let him know i was waiting to pick up my order and what I ordered. He starts off very friendly. At this time the lady looks over and sees him and heads back that way. The manager checks the same bag that she originally checked and asked her what was my order, she proceeds to say she doesn't know. I tell him again what my order was again; the Greek Trio. He then tells me this order is a Dine in only order. I said how would I know that as a customer, I just placed my order and know one seems to know what it is or where it is. He says this is it, as he hold up the bag that had been sitting there but again, it's Dine in. I said again, thats something that I wouldn't know and that should be discussed with your staff (now he's getting a bit passive aggressive in his time with me) and states he'll let them know. Not one time did he apologize for their actions of making me wait, or my food having been sitting there all that time and they didn't know it was mine nor offered any way to accommodate me. He told the lady to let him talk to her and walked to the back. Of course my food was cold when I got home. The hostess seemed pleasant when i was leaving. An update to my previous review. We ate here on Father's Day. While everyone enjoyed their food, today I am having an adverse reaction to something I ate here. It was most likely egg cross contaminated and so I'll say for those who are egg allergic, be warned. I notified the server of my allergy but I'm not sure he took it seriously. It would appear not. For those who are concerned, I'll be fine. Regardless the inside has been changed and more open. The menu is basically the same. Roxy was amazing! She fit right in with our vibe and felt like family. She was fast, attentive, had a great memory on our orders, and made the visit exceptional. As you know, they went through a slump for awhile where dinners were 2 hour visits waiting on food. They have resolved this and it is time to give them another try in their beautiful dining room and bar. Absolutely delicious Greek food! I have tried a lot of Greek in the area and it is all fine, this is excellent. We got the lamb gyro and the chicken souvlaki, it comes with so much food we were able to eat it as leftovers the next day. The server was very nice as well. Can't wait to go back. I would start by saying that it was the most expensive meal in my life. Why? Because 8 hours after eating I woke up vomiting, diarrhea, chills and cramping. I was vomiting all the food from the restaurant and after hours of vomiting dehydration I called my doctor. He told me to go to emergency room, I was dehydrated, had to get IV line and stay in the emergency room for few hours. They run tests and confirmed food poisoning and not a virus. Now, you can see why I regret coming to this place so much. I am pregnant and obviously worrying for the baby was exhausting, since food poisoning during pregnancy could be detrimental. Also, restaurant had many kids and families so we were happy to come and enjoy a nice meal. Then randomly they turned on the music so loud and staff members started dancing. I was seating right next to the speaker and my ears were hurting. Kid was seating with his grandpa next to us and he started crying from the noise. Grandpa had to take him outside. We asked to put it down and they gave us cold shoulder. I had ear pain 3 hours after the experience. Was a torture. Also it was a mockery out of Greek Culture. My husband is Greek and was offended that supposedly "nice restaurant" has to turn up music so loud and throw napkins like a clown show. I personally been to Greece and, patrons often dance in the tavernas, but this wasn't this type of the restaurant. Non alcoholic drinks:Limonade and mojito were good. We enjoyed them. Saganaki was ok. My husband kept saying it's not soft enough and not sharp enough. I wasn't sure what was wrong with it but didn't taste like it usually does. Greek salad was ok. I had falafel platter, and that's probably what caused me to have poisoning. I don't think lettuce was fresh or maybe hummus. I didn't even eat that much, took to go box. But obviously all that food goes to the trash after my experience. Interior is good and service was good as well, but they don't have a good presentation of the restaurant. And obviously food was a disaster. My husband had Santorini pasta and he said it was ok, I didn't try it so cannot judge. But at least he didn't get poisoned. The staff, shout out to Way (super, friendly, helpful, and the BEST) were efficient from start to finish, jumping in when needed and offering suggestions. The food was scrumptious! We love Greek food and whether it's good diner food or more upscale it can really range. We started with babaganoush which was outstanding; perfectly smoky, creamy and delicious. I had the chicken skewers, which were really amazing. There was a LOT of chicken on there, versus some I've had that ate mostly veggies. They were perfectly cooked and were in a great marinade and served with a garlic aioli which was delicious. My husband had spanikopita which was served with really fresh taziki and some feta. It came with two slices but they were so big he couldn't finish. Later tonight (Friday) they are having belly dancing and a DJ which is a little late for us (we're old ). I have been to Acropolis a couple of times. The most memorable time has to be when I spent about 4 - 5 hours there. I was with my husband and we needed to waste time because his car was being worked on. We went to Acropolis because we could eat and smoke hookah. We're middle eastern so we hold a certain threshold on some traditional foods like kibbeh, hummus, falafel, etc... I personally don't like falafel but we ordered it anyways because why not... I was pleasantly surprised on how much I loved their falafel! It was so fluffy, light and so crunchy! Truly one of the best I have ever had! The hookah wasn't bad either. The waiter always kept the coals fresh and when the head finished, he was fast to refill it. On a different occasion we ordered the spinach puff pastry and that was sooo good!!! Flaky on the outside and so creamy on the inside.. You can taste every single thing that was on the inside. I also loved their Kibbeh! Their kibbeh reminded me of my moms cooking and it was the perfect amount of crunch on the outside (not oily either) and the meat was cooked to perfection on the inside. The hummus was okay... not my favorite but it wasn't terrible. My friend got the beef gyro and she said that she liked it alot but her favorite was the sauce on top. I went during lunch. It was not too busy so we were seated right away. Service was fantastic. They did not seat us too close to other parties and staff wore masks. I enjoyed the inside look and decor. It is has a casual vibe with some upscale touches. It seems versatile like you could have a chill lunch or a nice dinner at this place. I tried the calamari as an appetizer. The breading is very crispy, has good spice, and the calamari itself was not chewy. They even fried the jalapeño in the batter which is nice to try. I had the lamb gyro platter for my meal. It has salad, fries, and a lot of well seasoned meat. From the photo you can see the meat falling off the plate. This is definitely two meals.
