My wife and I have been eating at Acropolis for many years and have never been disappointed. Their pizza, salads, and appetizers are excellent. The service has always been fast and friendly. Management is legitimately caring and seem to be easy going. The decor is relevant to its name and at least the plants are real. Our favorites here are the Carolina Cheese Fries (best in town) and Spanakopita. Yum! If you're in the mood for mixed drinks just hop over to their bar 32 Degrees Ice Bar for a small atmosphere with a lot of TV'S which make for great & rowdy sports events. If you're looking for Italian, do yourself a favor and drive five more minutes and go to Iannucci's on 25. This was just bad. I ordered the chicken parmezitti... what came out was something that all looked like it had been boiled to death before being plated and served. The look of it was reminiscent of a bad Italian meal from a bad school cafeteria. The abundant fruit flies and horrible fluorescent lighting really set off the whole school cafeteria vibe as well. Not to mention the Italian dressing left on each table for all to use... gross. The one bright spot was our waiter, Daniel. He was very attentive and everything you look for in good service. Wish I could rate it a zero. I called in a takeout order yesterday, and went to pick up. They said they had no record of the order. I verified the telephone number dialed to place the order. The gentleman I was speaking with left to check with the kitchen to see if they could locate. Ten minutes later he returned to say they had nothing. No apology, and no offer to expedite a new order. My husband had fried pickles and he loved it. Our drink cups were never empty. I specifically had the Acropolis Speciality Pizza, preferred extra cheese.... never had theres before.... out of this world good. Really great food! Super friendly service! James G was a fabulous server. We used the Yelp coupon to get free garlic knots YUM! Wednesday is half priced bottled wine. We had the Butternut Ravioli (very good, very rich), the Smoked Gouda Ravioli (spicier than I expected but very good!) and the Lamb and Chicken Gyro (OMG the amount of meat was insane!) very tasty! EDIT: I changed this to 1 star instead of 2 stars. Usually I can heat my leftovers the next day in my oven with my pizza stone and pizza peel and have it be amazing, but this was just NASTY. I literally threw out 5/8 of the pizza I bought. NEVER ORDER PIZZA HERE!!! I only got pizza. It looked cheap, it smelled cheap, and it tasted like high-end high school cafeteria pizza. The crust and cheese look undercooked and I'm guessing it's just because their ovens aren't as hot as most other places. On top of all that, I got heartburn and indigestion after eating the pizza from here and that only happens when I eat really cheap, low-quality ingredients. If you want pizza in the area, steer clear. I can't comment on any other menu item, maybe they're good, maybe they're not, but the pizza isn't. The lasagna, cheese calzone, and smoked gouda ravioli was great and according to one member of the party, the steak & cheese sub was amazing! The Greek salad was okay. The bruschetta was good, it would have been better with some balsamic vinegar but that is just my opinion. Our waitress was nice and the environment was good. I remember years ago, this place had some great pizza. Unfortunately, that seems to have faded. The crust was sponge like, not crispy or chewy or both. The cheese seemed cheap, and the toppings seemed like they were cheap as well. The slices are monstrous... Which you normally find in food when the quality is poor. This place served the worst new York style pizza I have ever had. The atmosphere is busy and energetic. The staff are very nice, but did nothing when we informed them about the poor quality of their pizza. We ordered a large, only ate one slice each and did not take any home. I don't know about the "regular" or "Sicilian" styles but the new York pizza had a hard crust with no discernible flavor. There was a ton of cheese and not very much sauce the toppings were scarce and ingredients tasted canned and sad. It was a huge disappointment. About $30 down the drain. Save your money and go to one of the many other choices. In contrast, the eggplant parmesan sub is pretty good. It is crispy and plenty of food for two. We've been here two times so far. Their pizza is a thicker crust, with lots and lots of cheese. They don't skimp on the cheese. The cheese just oozes off the pizza. If you're a cheese pizza fan, this is the place to go. In fact, order any pizza off the menu and you'll get a cheesy pizza. I'm not a huge Greek fan, but I don't remember Greek food being this cheesy. It must be the type of cheese they use. Ok, enough with the cheesy comments, no pun intended. I guess we're just not diehard cheese fans. On a more serious note, their wings are basic, yet plenty good. Crispy on the outside, warm and juicy on the inside. You can't go wrong with them. I've gotten them both times we've dined in. As far as the decor is concerned, let's just say the place reminds me of Uncle Bob's yard during the holidays. Fairly tacky and not well thought out. Christmas lights randomly strewn around, palm trees, regular trees, and general randomness. But, it's a family-style restaurant, not fine dining. So, it doesn't bother us. Service is usually very fast and friendly. And they don't accept credit or even debit cards. They're behind the times, but judging from the decor, it's what you would expect. This place looks really small from the outside, so I was surprised with how roomy it was upon entering. Really enjoyed the 10" white pizza with the 5 toppings of your choice. Delicious! We were traveling in the area and was looking for something close by that wasn't a chain restaurant. We decided on Acropolis Pizza and made it before it closed at 9:30 pm. (All of the restaurants in this area seem to close early 9:30 or 10:00 pm.) My husband had an Italian sub. He substituted ham for pepperoni. They were accommodating and the large sub was delicious and had plenty of meat. I had a cheese steak and it was loaded with tender steak, cheese, mushroom & onion. We both took half of the sub home. We ordered pizza to go as my daughter was arriving that evening. We had the gluten free crust shrimp alfredo pizza and it was amazing. As was the chicken & sun dried tomato pizza. I eat here a lot! The food is really good! It is a great gluten free option. The gluten free subs are the size of a sub. The bread is better than most gluten free breads. I have always had great service and in general a good experience. It is a great alternative to big chain restaurants. I have had the gluten free lasagna a few times! I'm supporting the restaurants I frequented before the pandemic. My usual places have been a disappointment in the take out arena. When I ordered our usual lamb gyro platter, I'd prepared myself for our meal to be sub par, as other take out had been. Our take out lunch was as good as if we were seated and served in the restaurant. Meat, salad, and all the sauces were above my expectations in quality, presentation, and portion size. We love this place but won't be coming back after this experience. Ordered our usual and added a coupon for garlic knots through the site. Called to make sure they would be taken off our orders and girl said they would. We were both charged for them and the "manager" or whoever was working there that day said they can't do cash refunds and said they'd be taken off next time we visited. Got 10 minutes down the road and noticed there was no silverware or marinara. Came back and waited in a newly formed line for 10 extra minutes for someone to assist me. I demanded a refund for the knots that were supposed to be taken off and he said he couldn't refund cash so he gave us two gift cards. The knots are undercooked, the lamb was overcooked. Pathetic, COVID is not an excuse to screw people over because you lack professionalism and customer service. Won't come back. read more
