I used to go to Teavana, but now I much prefer Adagio. Honestly I find Adagio much more laid back and cheaper. As well as they have a rewards program in their system, on Groupon, and On Belly which Teavana does not have any rewards system. Another perk is that they have much more room for the teas so they have a wider selection. In addition they have the tea in little labeled zip lock bags that are arranged on the wall right below a sample of the leaves so you can smell it yourself. This is much different from Teavana where you must go to the register to have them scoop, pour, and measure your tea for you to buy it. Most bags average 3 Oz, and you can get it loose or in tea bags. The price of the bags vary from mainly around $8 to the highest being around $35. They also have tins seasonally as well as online. I suggest taking a look at them since there are a lot of people who have made blends. There are 100's if not 1,000's of blends available online including the elusive TARDIS blend http://www.adagio.com/signature_blend/blend.html?blend=19749. Also they do not hesitate to let you sample the tea before you buy it. Overall I found the staff very knowledgeable, and friendly. They did not pressure for sales at all, and were very helpful. UPDATE, This location no longer has Belly. Deals - Rewards system is $10 for every 100 points. $1 = 1 point. Last Friday of the month is double points day. (Wednesday for State St location) Every day deal is buy 4 get 5th free which is nice! I always spend too much here. I also recommend going on their site once you get a rewards account. Soooo many teas I've never heard of or tried. Staff was friendly and helpful. They have collections of different types of the same teas (I.e. black teas, green teas, etc...) which are nice for gifts. They have a couple of different sampler packs. I ended up buying black teas of China for my friend and bought a small pack of the Thai chai tea for myself which is scrumptious! Wow what a really crappy experience. I drive all the way to skokie to surprise my partner as they're a tea fanatic. I had been excited for almost 2 months about taking him here. And as soon as we walk in we're met with anti-blackness. The one employee made direct eye contact with my partner and turned his head in the opposite direction as if we didn't exist. We wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't for the fact that the 2nd employee saw we hadn't been greeted and did so herself and let us know of the current promotion they were running. I would say we were in the store for about 10-15 minutes and already had a couple different tea bags in our hands and were trying to make a final decision when the first employee who turned away from us comes over to us. He only came over to us once we were by the door. He said are you all set on your selections and we were confused by the question. At first I was thinking he was going I make suggestions. Then he proceeds to say you don't have to hold all those if you want to, you can leave them here on the counter. The tea bags are less than 2oz., they're not heavy. The concern was us having several bags of tea in our hands, being black and next to the exit. He assumed we were going to dash out the store. Who steals a bundle of herbal tea in broad daylight? We would have spent more had we not felt the tension. After that moment we were ready to go and not even look any further. My partner left the store in aggravation and as the employee was ringing me up he tried offering me a bunch of tea samples because he knew he had messed up. But instead of just apologizing and taking accountability he's just going to deflect with some reject tea samples. Very disappointed in this establishment and the experience. We just had a tea tasting at Adagio Teas. It is a little hard to find if you are looking for it. If you park in the "red" garage, it's to the right of the professional building down a walkway (past Sur La Table, Papyrus, etc). The store itself is light and bright, which is a contrast to its competitor Teavana. It's also less imposing. Instead of having to ask to smell the teas, you can walk to any of the teas and open the glass jars to smell and feel the teas for yourself. Ok, back to the tea tasting. We purchased a deal where it comes with a free "personaliTEA" teapot for each person. You and your guest(s) can choose a collective 3 teas to taste. With so many options in the store, it was hard to choose just 3! While the tea is brewing, our tea consultant Theresa talks to you about the different types of tea, history of tea, answers any questions you have about tea. While we already knew a lot about teas, we learned even more. Theresa was very knowledgeable about teas! It was an interesting and fun experience. I recommend doing this tasting if you are at all interested in teas or want to know more about teas or if you just want to try new teas. One thing to note - do not do this tea tasting if you are pressed for time. They estimate 30 minutes, but it's closer to an hour when you count selection of the teas and choosing your teapot colors. read more

I had a tea date with a friend here during my lunch break and it was one of the best ideas ever! The sales associate working here was super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. She made some really good recommendations based off of our tea preferences and we were able to sample some really delicious ranging from some fruity infused teas to the more traditional black teas. They have a huge variety and selection here with price ranging from $8 to $29 for 3 oz of loose leafs or ones packaged in individual bags. This is also a great place to pick up souvenirs for your tea loving friends and family members! They've got a great selection of mugs, infusers, kettles, teapots...basically any tea accessory you can think of they'll most likely have it! Best part is with a yelp check-in, you get a free small tea to go! They can brew any kind of tea you want in the store. Small is typically around $3 or a large for $4. I randomly walked into this place as I was exploring the mall. I had never heard of adagio teas before so didn't really know what to expect in terms of the tea quality and price point. The lady at the check out told me that they had a larger presence online and their physical stores were something new they were trying out which explains why I have not heard of them before. I'm really glad I walked in as I think I might have found my new favorite tea! The Aquarius tea comes in a tin box which is filled with loose leaf tea. For $9 it was such a good deal! The tea is really unique as it is loose leaf but smells so sweet - it reminded me of bubble tea and I am planning to have it as a healthy alternative as bubble tea contains so much sugar. I think they only have three physical locations so far but I will be checking out their website to see what else they have! read more

Tea is definitely my beverage of choice, and Adagio has it down pat. Unlike the other mall tea-store-that-shall-not-be-named, Adagio is much easier to self-navigate; their displays allow me to see and smell the tea on my own. I'd walked through the store before but this time I spent more time and was able to make use of a few Yelp deals. I checked in and got a free cup of tea, and there was a $40 for $50 deal I bought using Yelp. I used the free cup on some Pomegranate tea that was light & refreshing. The staff gladly made suggestions on which tea to get based on what I was in the mood for. The Yelp deal I used to buy their Utilitea Kettle as a gift for a friend. It's not something that's really highlighted within the store, but according to online reviews it's one of the best electric tea kettles out there. So far from what I've seen this place has great tea with decent prices for a specialty tea store. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. I agree with many of the sentiments expressed here, including Jean C, and Adagio's successful attempt to design shops intended "to enhance the experience of shopping." I immediately felt more at ease in this tea shop than in Teavana due to the layout, size, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and just the overall aesthetic. While I do love Teavana's teas, I don't love their prices, and I don't love their chaotic feel at times. Adagio's teas, IMO, are every bit as wonderful, if not better than Teavana's, not to mention less expensive, and I find the staff much more approachable, and the experience much more Zen-like. If I had to pick one only, I'd go with Adagio, hands down. It's just a whole 'nother vibe. read more

You can smell/sample whatever tea you want (and tea cookies), they have a buy 4 get 1 free deal, and the girl who was working was super nice and helpful! So glad I went in on a cold February night...my friends and I spent a really long time in here smelling the teas and just enjoying the ambiance. Wife and I stopped by Adagio Teas while shopping at the Old Orchard Center store and was amazed at the large and varied selection of teas that they have. They must have over 50 selections with the teas in both loose and in teabags. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the teas. My wife bought 10 different teas in their teabags. They also have a large selection of equipment for making tea. Add to this, their staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and will help you out anyway you ask. Only downside is they have only one register to check people out and/or join their club. Looking forward to our next trip down there. read more

I received my first package from Adagio in the mail last week, and I'm already a fan. When I found out this week I'd be in the vicinity of an Adagio retail store, I was stoked. The experience lived up to my expectation. Product Fantastic. I've tried more than a dozen Adagio teas now between my sample pack and the in-store experience. In every case, the flavor of Adagio teas is exquisite. I may not prefer the particular blend, but that is a matter of personal preference. For the blends I do prefer, I absolutely love the (very) full flavor. So far I have tried most varieties-black, green, rooibos and oolongs (haven't tried a mate, yet). The products are packaged with easy-to-find information for the best preparation process (temperature and duration for steeping) per tea. Service I arrived at opening time, 10am, on a Saturday morning. There were two employees, but I dealt mainly with Lindsey (though the other attendant was equally friendly and helpful, I just don't know her name). Lindsey listened to my experiences so far, and guided me to similar products (which I purchased). She is very knowledgable and obviously passionate about tea. Lindsey and her co-worker aptly handled our (my wife and I) questions and tastings (we tried six varieties) while juggling the store-opening duties, handling a phone order and helping other customers. Kudos! Ambience The store layout was designed, no doubt. Every tea is presented so that customers can open a canister to smell before trying. I, in fact, opened every canister. The tea packages are easy to reach, and easy to read. The products are on display along the walls of the store with the service bar in the center of the store. The attendants never seem far away, and there are no aisles to navigate. I was in the store for over an hour and didn't once feel I was in the way of other customers or vice versa. Every product (teas or tea ware) is accessible. Interaction with the product is simple and encouraged. It's obvious Adagio took some cues from the Apple retail experience. It's working. I will be sure to stop in to an Adagio retail store any time I'm in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I got a groupon here for a tea tasting and I was really happy I did. I had been going for Teavana for a while and have become disappointed in their service lately, so I was looking for some place new. We were educated about our choice of three teas and we sipped on them as we noshed on some tea cookies (yum). The guy leading the tea tasting was super friendly and knowledgeable. With our Groupon, we also go individual tea pots for loose leaf tea. In addition, we bought quite a few things, including tea and these cool tea steeping mugs for work. I am glad we stumbled upon this place, I just wish there was a location closer to my home! With a Yelp or Four Square check in you get a free cup of tea! read more

I will not be coming back. I'd give zero stars if I could. Went here today because I was walking around the mall & it was hot, like 90 degrees and humid, so I got thirsty. I remembered I really liked Adagio Teas & chose to come here over Teavana (even though I used to work there & we walked by them first!). It started off well....... The first girl that was helping me was nice. She recommended a few teas & I decided on a blood orange hibiscus tea iced large sweetened. She started steeping it & chatted with us a bit. She was super helpful & she specifically said the hibiscus tea is deep red, like the one at starbucks, which I already knew :) Well, me and my cousin noticed a flyer saying to yelp them so I went on yelp to check in just because I always check in to places & saw that if I do, my drink would be free! That was a pleasant surprise for something I was going to buy anyway. The girl that was helping us, left at that time... idk, her shift was over or something & she handed us over to this other dark haired girl. The girl told the dark haired girl what I got, blood orange large iced sweetened. I heard her. I was told by multiple people that the dark haired girl kept glaring at me more than once, but when I talked to her she was so sweet. Not sure if it was all fake or that's just how she looks at people??? Anyway, she proceeds to tell me that there's something in my tea, like a paper or sticker or something and she could make me a new one. I say ok, and she asks me if I'd like to use this as a chance to add another tea to my blood orange hibiscus, so per her recommendation, I chose some orange rooibos tea. So she dumps the old tea out, starts steeping the new one. I finally get my tea (after 5 min, because I know those rooibos and herbals take that long). She gives me a small, when I know I ordered a large. The tea is watered down like crazy, very, very faint flavor. There is zero taste of any sweetener. It isn't even deep red like a hibiscus tea, it's literally a light orange color. Did she even make the right one?? I barely drank it. Everyone I was with tried it & agreed it was not good. I basically waited over 10 min for watered down tea. I threw it out minutes after I got it because it was that bad. I'm not sure if she did that on purpose or if she just doesn't know how to make tea or what?? Like seriously though? I really feel like she did it on purpose because it happened literally right after she found out I was getting it for free. Plus she was glaring at me the whole time so..... I work in retail & I would never do that to a customer even though it was a free drink. I used to buy teas here whenever I got out to old orchard, but sorry, never again. read more

I have been on a mission to find "my" tea. Tried many flavors and many stores. I came to Adagio at Old Orchard today on my lunch break (probably one of the worst days to come cause the weather sucks). The store is clean and they have many choices to choose from. It's a beautiful setup with plenty of teas and items to look through, although the store is a bit cramped and not much moving space without bumping into something or someone. The reason for only 3 stars, the staff didn't bother to ask if I needed help, I had to approach them after walking in circles trying to figure out what's what, there were maybe 2 customers in the store and one was checking out. This however isn't the biggest reason for the 3 stars. The biggest issue was the music was so obnoxiously LOUD. I couldn't think. I wasn't sure if I was in a bar or a tea shop! Don't get me wrong, I like loud music, but at the bar not a tea shop and the shop is small and cramped to begin with so the loud muisc was not very welcoming. I also don't like to yell when I'm trying t conversate or ask a question. I did purchase 5 boxes of tea samples which was $54 and that's pretty reasonable. It was buy 4 get 1 free. I probably won't be going back to this location but will attempt another location or just purchase online in the near future. read more

I've been fond of Adagio for a while. I find the flavours they offer all pretty good, and they have tons of options. This review is more about a few key gripes. When I take a look at my older orders versus now, it's pretty obvious the changes they made are not for the better.... they've only raised prices by a dollar or two (woo) but the portion sizes shrank (4oz down to 3oz as their middle quantity, for example).... so you may see $1 or $2 price increase and go "that's not so bad" but you're also getting far less. As just one example: I got something in 2010 called "masters sampler set 2" for $29. Now it's $49. That's a big jump. Granted a lot of their items haven't jumped in price, it's still not great when others do. I also really don't like their switch away from the tins. My first order was fantastic with all those awesome little tins for the samples... and then not even 3 months later when we placed our second order, they switched to these crummy sachets and have kept them ever since. The tins were like 100x better. If they offered the ability to get the nicely labelled tins for like 50 cents more each, I'd do it... because then I could even refill them when I get more. The sachets suck. I like Adagio and I've always liked their website design, but these little changes are crap. At least they finally have free shipping to Canada, after I paid an arm and a leg before to get it shipped here. Bring back the tins! read more

This is a very cool shop. I loved just standing inside and breathing in the fragrance of an amazingly huge and varied selection of teas. The employees were VERY informed about the origins and distinct flavors of every tea in the place. I don't even know how that's possible!! Black teas, white teas, green teas, herbal teas, fruity teas, locally inspired teas. They could describe the taste of each! I was going to just get one bag of loose tea (they have the flavors in tea bags, too). Choosing one was impossible, but fortunately they had buy 4/get one free. I did! They also have all types of steepers and tea service items. The location was convenient, lots of parking, loads of other great shopping (including LL Bean) and dining nearby. read more
