I always fine the salespeople at Grape Collective to be knowledgeable and friendly. I found a new Cabernet that is amazing.

I wish this neighborhood had liquor stores that were cheaper and had better selections. I went into the Grape Collective last night and a salesperson immediately approached me. He asked with I was looking for and then proceeded to speak over me, interrupt me, and generally mansplain. He was very loud, too. I guess one has to be very thirsty for a sale to unsuccessfully try that hard. A good salesperson does not interrupt a customer or speak over them. A good manager corrects this type of behavior, commission or not. Your organic wines are generally well-priced. The liquor is overpriced, and, the selection is small. read more

This is my go to wine store! Interesting selection from boutique vineyards. I have bought great wines from different countries including Armenia and Croatia. Grape Collective is more than your average wine store. They have interesting and amusing features, and they curate their selection very nicely. For example, on this given summer day, they had a few displays of recent "taste offs," including one with a Clinton vs. Trump theme. (Ha!) The staff here asked if we needed any help without being invasive. One thing that took a little longer for me to notice was that there's a small fridge in the back with cold wine. The space is really lovely. You cannot help but notice the amazing wine bottle chandelier throughout the store. read more

I love, love, love this lovely friendly wine store with an outstanding collection of curated wines. I have bought the absolute best wines here at a reasonable price that I have not found any where else. The staff are knowledgeable, patient in explaining all about different wines (and always have dog biscuits for my corgi who comes into browse with me). I usually get an outstanding collection (10% off a case of 12) of wines less than $20, with an occasional higher priced wine. All are delicious. What a great little wine shoppe! I walked by a bunch of times but have always been intimidated when it comes to choosing a wine. I have to admit that it was the cool train set in the window that made me stop in this time. Unless it's something i've tried before, when it comes to wine i usually just go with what i've had in the past or something with a pretty label within my price point, rather than expose myself for the wine dummy that i am. I decided this time to ask for a recommendation. I was sure i would be directed to a higher priced bottle and given a flowery diatribe on fragrance and bouquet that would be meaningless to me. Instead, the gentleman who helped me asked me what I've had that i've liked and then directed me to a number of options and explained a bit about each in terms that i could understand without being haughty and self-important. i ended up trying three new wines that i never would have chosen on my own. I was really surprised at how many options they had in my price range. Moreover, the staff were friendly and didn't tried to push me in any direction or try to dazzle me with their wine knowledge. The store had a cool ambience and great tunes playing that you didn't have to shout over to be heard. overall a really good experience. knowledgeable and friendly staff with no oversell or intimidation. I'm a huge fan of this place. The wine selection is well curated and you simply cannot make a bad choice - any bottle in the place will be divine. The prices are competitive and reasonable. I've shopped here frequently. Sometimes for special occasions and gifts, and other times to simply treat myself. While the wine shop is a bit out of the way for me - I live in Westchester - I go there because the staff is very knowledgeable and passionate about wine and liquor. True of most shops but the sales people at Grape Collective also study and publish. It seems apparent in the depth of their knowledge and experience. Having said that, not surprisingly the service is excellent and genuine. I've recommended the shop to many others! read more

The staff at Grape Collective are extremely approachable and will help you to find the perfect wine to match any mood or meal. They really get to know winemakers and post videos about them. Wine in November is a great place to shop for wine. I have gone in there with my menu, and the staff has been unbelievably helpful in recommending wines. Let me clarify: they don't go to one wine and hand it to you, as is done in so many stores. They pick out two or three selections and actually EXPLAIN why they work and how they will work with your food. You can then make the decision on your preference of what flavors you want highlighted. This knowledge of the nuances of how food and wine combine, can allow for some non-traditional pairings, which is always fun. No rhetorical suggestions here! Listen to their descriptions, and you know they've tasted the wines and know their product. Customer service is excellent and the store is beautiful. read more

The staff here is so knowledgeable and extremely nice - especially in comparison to other shops nearby (my advice - avoid the place a few blocks north, next to the McD's on Broadway). Strangely enough, some of the labels here are cheaper than can be found online, specifically, a few of the champagnes and proseccos. They have great selection already but they keep a running of list of suggestions if you can't find something you're looking for. Really helpful people here. read more

I've been here several times and the people are usually knowledgeable and helpful, but last time I went in I was in a rush and just wanted a quick recommendation so I could jump in a cab and head to dinner at a friend's apartment in the East 50s. The only employee working there said she didn't know anything about wine and her co-worker who did know all about wine went out to pick up dinner. HUH??? Why in the world would the guy who knows about wine leave the store when the only other employee knows nothing about wine?? Seriously frustrating. Was pleasantly surprised when I first stopped into Grape Collective about a month ago, at the large selection of good wine and straightforward layout and organization of the store. So that's why I returned the next time I was in the neighborhood with my friend who is from the area. The first time I'd come to the store, the service was just fine. Sadly, this time around my experience was not as nice. The employee who was working the store did not greet us when we came in, but did greet the woman who came in after us. The difference between us and her? She was white and middle aged, and we are brown and in our twenties. This gentleman also did not offer the wines available for their Friday evening wine tasting to us, while he handed her a glass upon her entry to the store. I still bought the wine I was intending to, but I won't be back. read more

Between West 100th and Broadway and West 125th and Broadway there is no competition. This is your wine store. Their selection is excellent. They know their wines and their customer service is excellent. We live outside their delivery zone (barely) but had a 3 case order for a holiday party. They spent a significant amount of time with me helping select the wine (I knew two that were must haves but was depending on them for the rest), agreed to deliver outside their zone and then when the wine arrived, the young lady who brought it (who had not been in the store the day before) told me her colleagues had told her about my visit and upon hearing the menu she thought we had selected a good white but that there was a better choice. She had taken the liberty of substituting 6 bottles and hoped I would not mind. Oh yes, they were a $1.99 cheaper than the original choice. Her selection was excellent. Long story short. Went in Sunday. A rather put-upon man helped us find a tasty Sancerre, though it was like asking a favor. You know the type, I'm sure. I wanted that Sancerre again so returned today. Two young men at counter, on their laptops, nodded. Another, toward the back: no acknowledgement. Well, I might have explored a different Sancerre, bumped up from the $22 price point had one of these staff actually managed to say, "hey, can I help you," or perhaps engaged in some wine talk (do I look like I know nothing--think again). Skip this place and their disengaged sniffy staff. Do yourself a favor and walk a few blocks farther up to Vino Fino, 1252 Amsterdam, similar layout but where the staff are not glued to laptops (no laptops in sight). Where it's clear they have carefully, personally chosen the wine, and are invested in your enjoying the wine (great price points, too) and can speak knowledgeably. I had great hopes for this place and love supporting the small stores but these people don't have a clue about how to run a business. read more
