We were meeting friends for a casual dinner at the Whizzens Center on a Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, our first choice restaurant had a 45 minute wait for an outside table. No thank you. Our friends knew about the Adobe Cantina and recommended it highly. About 2 blocks away on Agoura Road, it is hard to find but worth the one minute drive over. No problem getting a table on their lovely patio. Ricardo, our server, was at our table immediately to give us menus and take our drink orders. Two of their draft beers were IPAs. I knew I was going to like this place. My wife and I decided to share the shrimp fajitas as our entree ($26). Large portion with lots of shrimp (minor gripe - many of the shrimp had tail on - a bit of a pain in a fajita dish). It had all the usual fixings of a fajita dish. Delish! Tonight we had our son's and his fiancé's rehearsal dinner at this great restaurant. The reservations for 30 were easy to make several months ago. Jose, the manager, walked us through the process: everyone would order off the menu, not a pre-set menu. A 20% tip would be added to the final bill. We asked if there were additional fees, and he said there were none. Fast forward: All 30 people showed up and had a outstanding time! We were seated on the front patio and were serenaded by the wild parrots, refreshed by the gentle breeze, and rejoiced in the azure blue sky. (No June Gloom!) By the way, there are many beautiful spots to eat at this restaurant: inside and outside. Several patios as well as private tables that create a nice ambiance. The team members who served us were the epitome of phenomenal service! Upon arrival we were given guacamole/salsa/chips which never ran out! The group looked over the menu and were impressed by the expected and the unique entrees alike. Drink orders were quickly made and delivered. Starting with the soon-to-be bride, the food orders began and to our surprise the dishes arrived about 15-20 minutes. The food was not only beautiful, but absolutely delicious! Not one complaint! In fact, several folks ordered the Yucatan dishes and said the dishes had a beautiful taste profile. After dessert service, everyone had a lovely time catching up with old friends and making new ones. The bill was totaled, and thankfully, Jose reminded me of the 20% tip for groups of this size. (I forgot that detail from our earlier discussion and was appreciative of his reminder.) Tonight when we were home several people from the group texted us to thank us for the lovely dinner. We really cannot take credit because the credit belongs to Jose, as well as his team of servers and chefs. We highly recommend this restaurant for both a private date or for a large party. We were so pleased that I made a reservation for 10 of us on the night following the wedding festivities. When we arrived, our table was ready and the servers were waiting. We had a variety of food that night and everything was great (steak fajitas, lamb pibil, guacamole, chicken tacos, chicken burrito). Above all, they have a blackberry mojito that is life changing. Shredded or ground beef is not available. Carne Asade and Chile Colorado is only available on a couple of items, but can be asked for when customizing. I was impressed with Adobe Cantina on my visit. I had one of their burritos and was asked "mild or spicy?" I'm glad I said spicy because what it really meant was more flavor. It blended well with the carne asada. Afterward I told the waiter I enjoyed the flavor and he said "We call that gringo spicy." Yes, we all enjoyed a good laugh at my expense...what am I supposed to say next time? "Make it spicy and pretend I'm not white?" Chips, salsa and guacamole were all fresh and delicious. There's a margarita called "the perfect margarita" which I highly recommend. I take one star off not for the joke but for the lack of a kids menu. That wouldn't be an everyday annoyance but I was in a large party and there were 2 kids...which meant they could split an entree. The staff was very accommodating to this request.
