We are locals. Until recently we'd not heard much good about this restaurant. The hotel is kind of not a thing here-- I never recommend it based on past experiences of friends. It's recently undergone a minor facelift, but the harsh reality is that that was a band aid. You literally can't beat the view though. Both the hotel and the restaurant are located on the incredible 804 trail which runs along the ocean and it is breathtaking. We heard the restaurant had undergone a change so decided to be bold and venture forth. We made a reservation two days prior and were told we were not guaranteed a view table, but "would probably get one". We arrived on time and the restaurant was totally full. People in line ahead of us were seated at the very last available table in the center of the room. When we inquired about our reservation, the host (16 if he was a day) told us reservations were just for the restaurant's information and meant nothing. Did we want to sit in the bar? Mind you, the bar is located in the coffee shop/game room, a completely separate and much more casual dining space which included a pool table complete with a loud, drunk grandma. Because we had no options, we agreed. Our view was decent. The bar was also very busy. One waitress (the heroic Bess) managed roughly eight tables. She was a consummate pro and saved the meal from total catastrophe. We ordered. The menu has a southern flare and the selections seemed great. I ordered fried chicken...oops, at 630 on Saturday, they were out. Hubby ordered the Adobe Crab Pot and our friend ordered the special pork chop with a side of crab legs. I ended up with rib eye which was perfect. Linda's food took forty minutes. It was cooked within an inch of its life and was so hard it could've broken a window if necessary. The crab legs (literally seven miles from some of the best crab in the world) were frozen, and inedible--stringy, dry, gross. Had to be sent back. They took 20 minutes to prepare her substitute salad! The "chef" came out. He was wearing a filthy brown apron which was covered in some kind of disgusting crusty white stuff. He'd been using chew and had brown spit on his beard and face. It was kind of shocking really. If that's the front of house presentation, what's going on behind the kitchen door? He asked what was wrong and begrudgingly apologized, promising dessert on the house for Linda. That turned out to be a "seared" (burned) strawberry on half a cup of some espresso custard not on the menu. Hubs had a frozen chocolate cake for 15.00. Obviously came from a bulk foods provider and was dry and not supposed to be frozen. The bill was so high for what we got. We tipped Bess hugely because she saved the evening, but I will never go back. Do not recommend. So much good food here at the coast. Adobe is a massive waste. read more

This isn't a resort and the website is a real embellishment. The room we got, 292, is really weird. Strangely large and no decor. Creepy feeling. Furniture has rips in upholstery and wood is faded. Staff unprofessional and rude to patrons. The bathroom is dirty with deep scrapes on the toilet seat and bathtub. Really an odd place. Stay away. Our room is very dark with lightbulbs that are out. The pool area is very dark with needed repairs. Sauna and kids pool are closed. Place is a dump. Tempted to leave and ask my bank to cancel charges because the amenities were misstated. read more

I planned my birthday on the coast staying at my favorite resort and having my birthday dinner in their wonderful restaurant. The views from the dining room are breathtaking. I was seated by the window (as requested) and the view was everything I had hoped for. For dinner I had the crab cakes for appetizer and the sole for my entree. Both were exceptional!! What a disappointment! We drove up from Florence for brunch because we had been to the Adobe for brunch previously, just after they had reopened last year. It was excellent and we really looked forward to coming back. The view is great and the drive is so nice. Unfortunately, it was not good. Not good at all. Who ever was cooking was not much of a cook. The "crispy potatoes", also known as hashbrowns, were not crispy. They were still mostly white, undercooked and dry. Looked like no oil used at all. The toast was not toasted, and we had to ask for butter and jam, as not all the tables had condiments. The english muffin under my Eggs Benedict was not toasted (as I had asked), and the "hollandaise sauce", was not opaque, it was sort of clear. Not sure what it was , exactly. I ordered the Florentine version (tomato and spinach) and added Canadian bacon. There was no tomato and the spinach looked like gobs of frozen spinach had been plopped on there. My husband had the corned beef hash and he described it as "OK". Same problem with the "crispy potatoes" and toast. On the other hand, Joy, our server was great. She clearly had her hands full, but was pleasant and efficient. It was apparent that they were understaffed (the other server had left early) and had not prepared well for Sunday Brunch. I don't know if this was just a bad day, but I probably won't go back to find out. Including tip, we spent $70 for a very disappointing meal. The food would have been better in a diner. read more

What has happened to the Adobe? Service was great, can't beat the view. The food and cleanliness were the problem. The clam chowder was not fresh. They were out of many options we chose. The flies were terrible, not just a few but so many it was alarming. We had to swat them away from our food. The silverware was not clean. We have been eating at Adobe for years, our go to place for family gatherings, even had a wedding there so I write this with great sadness. We came here with a small group Christmas Day to avoid having to cook, naturally. Reservations were made for 6 and we were seated within minutes of our scheduled time. Our view of the ocean was very nice with waves hitting the rocks. The wait staff was very friendly and took our drink requests that arrived fairly soon. The meals were a plate of ham and beef and turkey (all 3) with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato and carrots in a cream sauce along with multi grain bread rolls. There also was a vegetarian option that was comprised of a stuffed acorn squash. Dessert was a choice between pumpkin cheesecake or pecan pie. The service was very good and it is appreciated that people are willing to work on Christmas Day, however, we did not find the food exceptional although it was good. It was a soup bowl of most mozzarella cheese with very little crab. Seasoning was good. Most disappointing! 3/4+ of the menu was unavailable tonight. Should have followed my 1st impression and just walked out. The shrimp cocktail was ok. Ordered a coconut curry steamed clams only to find out that the sauce was premade with cream. I can have no dairy of any type so that was not going to work. The server went back to the kitchen and was told that the 'chef' could adapt the dish with spices and it would be great. When it came out this big bowl of clams were so bland and tasteless that they were terrible. Even the crostini was mishandled and burnt. We have been to this restaurant many times over the years with good memories of wonderful meals. We traveled over 300 miles to one of our favorite places. We stayed at the Adobe May 12th for one night. We had visited over the last 30 years and wanted to see how the remodeling came out. The lobby was beautiful. The room only had a night stand on one side of the bed. I had to pull a chair over to sit water on. The room was nicely remodeled for the most part, however the wall heaters were still original and very rusty. Restaurant special was a seafood pasta. We had to ask for parmesan cheese and some bread, which should be pretty standard with the meal. read more

We stayed at the resort Thanksgiving weekend. We were in room 207 which I found to be the best room for views of the sunset and the coast. Room was really nice, we enjoyed the fireplace once we figured out how to use it. The front desk was helpful with that. Bring a power strip though because you can't have the TV and fireplace going at the same time otherwise. The pool was a bit chilly for being "heated". But it was nice sized. The hot tub was much smaller than what it looked like in the pictures and there were these big hard humps all over the bottom. The stairs getting in and out are strange, we watched almost every person struggle to get out. They did have a big table of fresh towels. The Gift Shop was really neat. We bought a few Christmas gifts while there. I also love that they sell LOTS of puzzles and card games. We had dinner in the Restaurant/Lounge at sunset and sat in the bar area down in the middle in front of the windows. It was King Tide so the waves were crashing beautifully. We sat mesmerized the entire time.. I have NEVER in my life had such incredibly delicious food! The dinner rolls were outrageously delectable.. just, wow! For appetizers we had: French Onion Soup- best I have ever had, the broth was superb! Sautéed Mushroom Caps - the sauce was divine!! Not even embarrassed that I poured the rest all over said dinner rolls. Stuffed Adobe Skins - huge, tender and deliciously crunchy. Shrimp Seafood Cocktail - PERFECTLY poached! For dinner we had- Smoky Scampi Butter Sauce Spaghetti Squash with Shrimp- I devoured the entire plate.. and could have easily gone for another helping! I NEED the recipes for this and the mushroom caps sauces!! Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp- I could have licked the plate clean.. but instead I just asked for more rolls. Like a lady :) For dessert we had the New York Style Cheesecake- It was REALLY good! only negative was the price for such a small piece. However it was thick and creamy but also light with this distinct flavor aftertaste I just could't quite put my finger on. Wanted to try the Lemon Curd Cheesecake the second night but we were way too full. Honestly just mediocre all around. As others have said, the location is terrific - windows all around with a beachfront view, and during sunset it's just an incredible view. On top of that, our waitress Chelsea was very friendly and quick overall. ... unfortunately that about does it for the good news. The food is just not great. I got the captain's platter: The salmon was ok, but a bit too dry. The fried oysters were gross. The prawns were actually pretty good, and the scallops were a joke - there were 3 of them on a skewer, and they were the size of cherries. C'mon. Although the prices are not ridiculous, they are on the high side, especially for mediocre food like this. I would not come back here on my own, for sure. If someone really really wanted to go here, I wouldn't be against it, but I wouldn't come here on my own accord. Go to Ona or Blue Whale down the highway for better food than this place. read more

We are staying at Adobe after almost 20 year's away. We love the beach, but oh my goodness....the ambiance...not sure we'll ever stay again. No comfortable seating other than the bed. We pulled a little "table " that was on the far wall, along with 2 uncomfortable chairs to enjoy the view. The room is not set up well at all. 20 years ago we paid $89 a night and the place was not great, but it was more comfortable than now. Now we're paying around $300 a night and it is not worth it. We will survive...but this is my 70 th birthday and thankfully not my real celebration. read more

Since the new owners have taken over the menu has changed, and not for the better. The bar menu now has only 5 items on it and the food was not good. We came here at least twice a month for the prime rib dip and now they have removed it from the menu. Wonder why they took the most popular item on the menu and removed it? We have lived here for a long time and everybody raved about the prime rib dip sandwich. We will not be coming back, the food was not good any longer but the wait staff was great and said they have had so many complaints but there's nothing they can do. read more

The view was super beautiful and the environment was overall romantic. I did feel that allowing children in the restaurant takes away from the romance. I understand it's a resort, and kids are going to be present. But maybe after a certain time make it so it's only adults.
