I recently moved to the area and was looking for a reliable auto repair shop for an overdue oil change. A young man I met at a nearby restaurant recommended Advanced Auto Service, saying the owner spoke Vietnamese, so I decided to support a local business. I called ahead around 2:15 p.m., and Charlie answered. He explained they were busy and asked me to come the following day, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, my experience after arriving was very disappointing. While checking in, Charlie repeatedly complimented my appearance and asked me for a hug. I felt uncomfortable but gave him a brief hug, trying to be polite. As we continued talking, he asked me several personal questions, including whether I lived alone and whether I had a boyfriend. Although I understood he needed some of my information for their customer records, the personal questions and repeated requests for hugs made me increasingly uncomfortable. Later, after showing me the different oils they use, he asked for another hug. When we walked outside so I could leave my vehicle overnight, he asked for yet another hug. This time I tried to pull away, but during the interaction he touched my left breast. I immediately told him that I did not like being touched. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my vehicle there. When I got home, I realized how uneasy the entire experience had made me feel. Because I no longer felt safe returning by myself, I arranged for my neighbor to drive me back the next morning to retrieve my vehicle. As a woman, I expect to be treated professionally when I visit an auto repair shop. I am there for vehicle service not to be hugged multiple times or asked personal questions unrelated to my vehicle. I cannot recommend this shop based on my personal experience. I hope this feedback encourages more professional boundaries with customers so that everyone feels respected and comfortable during their visit. read more

The first two times I took my 2001 Miata to Advanced Auto Services, Charlie would not take any money from me (despite them having the car for a couple of days, both times). He said they had not diagnosed/repaired the issue that was causing my intermittent check engine light. I was becoming worried because, at this point, I needed to pass smog in about a month. Through the process of elimination, his son, Brandon, determined it was the VVT camshaft actuator gear. After installing a new one, voila'! No more check engine light! Hooray! Brandon fine-tuned the timing, performed other magic, and my little car runs like a dream. At his suggestion, I brought the car in right before I went to the smog shop so he could run some quick tests. Five minutes later, he announced that she was ready to pass smog, and off I went. I was referred to Charlie at Advanced Auto Services by my mechanic who doesn't fix air-conditioning. He said the Charlie was a very nice and very fair guy. I brought my car in and decided to wait to see rather than leave it like I was going to. After about an hour of diagnostics, he told me that Honda did not have a part that was needed even though it was listed & priced on their parts list (shipping/supply issues?) One alternative was to replace the entire compressor assembly for almost $1,800! Charlie proposed an alternate solution and told me this would work but would be a bit more in labor and would take the rest of the day. I took the option for less than 1/3. He called me around 4 that my car was ready. He picked me up at BART and air works so well my hands were too cold on the way home to SL! Great work by a competent, courteous and fair shop. I called him (Owner Charlie) very politely to ask how much will be my service and he shouted at me for no reason and told me he cant tell how much it will on the phone, he needs to see the car and said fuck you to me and hung up his phone. Oh my god don't use these guys! Very hard to have a back-and-forth communication with the main guy at the counter. His English is really bad. He tells you one thing on the phone. Then gets mean and nasty when you come in. These guys are the worst avoided at all cost avoid avoid avoid. I would not do business with them again. Charlie and his team fixed an electrical problem with my 23 year old Jeep Cherokee that other garages and the dealerships wouldn't touch. My Cherokee is in great shape, despite its age, but developed an issue with its fuse box. That part was discontinued 7 years ago. Other garages and two dealerships would just say "we can't get the part" and stop. No suggestions. The implication being throw your car out, it's outdated. (Yes, pick-a-part places had already been tried.) Charlie said he and his guys fix such issues often and to bring the car in. He basically fixed the part rather than replacing it. I know that's not text-book, but there is no text-book solution here. Very happy my Cherokee is in perfect working order again. Highly recommend for electrical. read more

That is three different diagnostic tests at $80+ each and my car was still not any closer to be fixed. Upon arriving at Advanced Auto, I was greeted by a father and son who were very nice and up front about how they could help. There's usually only two reasons I drive to the bay: food and Giants games. Welp, Advanced Auto Care is now my third. My 2012 Prius was experiencing some "clicking" noises from the front passenger wheel. Forum members advised immediate CV joint replacement before some serious injury could occur. After being burned from local shops one too many times, several friends recommended this Concord shop. Sophia and Charlie were able to help me upon arrival. They took the car for a test drive and a few minutes later they told me my car was fixed. It ends up my Prius only had a few screws loose (like the owner apparently) on the control arm. They could've easily charged me an arm and a leg but instead they ended up saving me hundreds of dollars thanks to their honesty! Well worth the hour and a half trek to Concord. I called Charlie off of the Yelp reviews, and I will tell you I was not disappointed. Having an A/C issue on an older truck, other auto shops I called wanted to either do an A/C recharge without testing, or charge to diagnose. Charlie said to come in and test with no charge, and then was able to repair with the A/C with a recharge 30% cheaper than anyone else. I will be using him in the future. read more

What a life saver. Charlie came to the rescue. I was test driving a used car for my new teenage driver from an owner from Craigslist. My first time of ever going outside of a dealer and outside my area. I needed a pre-inspection done that day at a specific time. TLTR; they replaced my transmission, my car has been running smoothly since then. I have an old car and last year it totally died. The problem was the transmission. Well F#$k!!! This is an extremely frustrating situation. Well Charlie and his daughter were very understanding and patient regarding the situation. When I decided to go ahead and have the transmission replaced they found me a great replacement part and fixed it for me. My car was run smoothly since then, no problem. After moving here in Sept. 2011, I looked around the Monument/Detroit area at different auto shops. I found Charlie and Advanced Auto Services when I went to a neighboring auto shop around 9 A.M. to find they were still closed and nobody was there. Charlie was actually reluctant to help me at first because I said I had gone to the other place, but I assured him that I wasn't married to the other place. His prices were much cheaper and he educated me on the difference between his shop and the other and why his was cheaper. It was because he's got the special tools that some of those other little shops don't have. For example, he can machine the rotors, whereas the other place would have to completely replace them because they don't have the equipment to machine them. Anyway, I've been going to Charlie ever since. Charlie always gives you the truth, no matter if it's which day of the week is best to stop by or about car problems. He always gives you all of the options, from the cheaper after-market stuff made in China to the more expensive dealer parts, and lets you make the decision about what to put in your car. Sometimes his daughter, Sophia, helps out with the place, making appointments, check-in, answering phones, etc. Both Charlie and Sophia are very nice and knowledgeable. Dealing with auto repair was never an easy thing for me to do. Too many people complained about how bad experience they had when they had to go thru with auto repairs. However, you can rest your doubt dealing with Advanced Auto Service, i.e. you can drop your car for all fluids level checked or tire pressure checked or just to get an estimate of a complicated car repair. The owner will stand behind their workmanship with excellent warranty since I had my car for services in 2006. read more

Charlie, Thank you for the honest, professional service you provided me recently!! My Air Conditioning was nor working correctly in my Suburban. I, being a mechanic thought I could save money by using the AC recharge Freon cans that sell at the auto parts store. I had already spent a good $50 using those cans, only to find out I overcharged the system, I then had to bleed out most of the Freon and ended up with bleeding too much. The AC was worse than when I started messing with it myself. After reading reviews for several auto service shops near me, I was impressed with the reviews left bu others on Advanced Auto Services, specifically people who used Charlie's name in the review. I called the shop and asked to speak to Charlie; Charlie was so professional explaining listening to my problem with my ac and he then explained the possibilities for what could be wrong and gave me an estimate of the cost to fix it depending on what he believed could be wrong with the truck. I took the Suburban to his shop just before closing time and left it overnight. Charlie called me the next morning around 10 AM with an explanation of what was wrong and an exact cost to fix the problem. I gave the Okay to fix it and I was picking up my truck after work the same afternoon. Just in time for a family outing the next day. Thank you so much Charlie! read more

By far the best shop I've been to. 10/10 in both the service and on the staff. I honestly never imagined I would be able to ever trust a shop... Especially knowing how money hungry they all are. I've been to too many and have been disappointed at every one of them. Some fix the problems that you specifically asked them to fix, and some totally misunderstand (or act like they didn't understand) and fix the complete opposite of what the problem is or what they THINK it is so you would come back for what should have been done in the first place. I hate shops to be honest. But this one, is by far the most honest shop I've ever been into. If you're there for something and don't clearly understand what's Bering done to your car, they'll break It down for you so you would know for sure you're getting what your money is worth. The level of hospitality they have towards their customers is unexplainable. They'll fix every problem your car has that YOU tell them to unlike other shops that will fix one problem, then try to fix more problems without your consent then let you know once your credit card is out. They use genuine parts and not some cheap parts some shops get for cost them charge you 3 folds. I can go on about how great this shop is but I can only say so much. You just have to experience it yourself so for your next oil change or service, hell, even if you need a small screw checked out, head straight here. You wouldn't need to stress over what shop to go to every service ever again. read more

on july 13 2017, i brought in my 1989 chevy camaro to the shop listed. i advised and warned charlie in person to be careful with opening the doors of the car TOO MUCH, because the vehicle had vertical doors. i have had a few experiences with charlie but never like this one. he was to diagnose voltage problem with engine. july 21 2017, after not hearing from from charlie in about a week, i called and spoke to him. he states that he is still working on vehicle. at this point, he had not mentioned any infractions that the car had. aug 3rd 2017, after weeks of not hearing from charlie, i stopped by the shop noticed a huge gap and damage between the front driver side fender and driver door. as it would seem that who ever was working on the vehicle had damaged the fender by extending the door against it. i immediately went back to the office and spoke to charlie, as he explained that he was not done with vehicle yet, i cit him off, and asked him what happened to my door and fender. he immediately gave a "huh" and turned red. he walked over to the car and immediately said that the damage was already there without even knowing where the damage actually was. i asked him again if he would repair the damage, and he stated that the damage was already there and that NOW THE DOOR would not close properly.. so i asked for the 3rd time, if he would repair the damage, and he immediately said no. as i was looking at the damages, one of his mechanics walked over and pulled him aside and pointed at the car.. at this point, i knew they were not going to fess up on the damaged they have done. i will be reaching out to the BBB bureau as well.. i want to mentioned that, at this time, i dont know what charlie will be charging me for the engine work, but i am mostly concerned about the shop repairing the damaged they would not take ownership on.. further more, as of today, the vehicle is still in their possession and i dont know if they will do anything to it to jeopardize the condition of it more than it already was due to their spite. i am prepared to show before and after pictures of the damages since charlie is stating that the damages were already there. read more
