This place has everything! My friend and I went in November and it was just beautiful. You could do everything or nothing. Just wanted to relax and that is exactly what you could do there! The cabin was beautiful and had everything. The hot tub on the deck made the stay perfect. We ate at Chetty's and would not venture anywhere else. The food was great and the staff was so friendly. We had a great time! We rented a cabin for three nights and were pleasantly surprised that the cabin was so nice and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The views are incredible and everyone at the resort is super-nice. We did the all-day rafting trip on the lower New River and it was wonderful. Our guide, Scott, really took great care of us and made sure that our trip was exciting and safe at the same time. He also knows a lot of the history of the area and was very interesting to listen to. This is NOT an amusement park ride. The river will suck you out of the raft and send you swimming without notice, but the guides really know their stuff and get you back in the raft for more fun. It is also possible to swim through some of the rapids, and that is thrilling. About half-way through the day, the guides produced a fantastic lunch on the riverside as if by magic. The food was excellent and not at all the typical "box lunch" fare that is all too common on most excursions. We had pulled pork, potato salad, slaw, tortellini salad, chips, brownies and cheesecake. There was a vegetarian option as well. How they did it, I do not know, but it was great. Shout out to Scott for being wonderful! The next day, we did the zip-line canopy tour. Our guides were Noel, Jacob and Annalise. Again, the experience was exciting (some of it terrifying!) and safety was a major priority. Flying across the treetops and looking out on the river valley was exhilarating. The views of the West Virginia mountains were spectacular. I have some anxiety in high places and the guides were encouraging and patient. (I might not have made it across the last bridge if Noel had not been on the other side yelling "You can do it!") (There are gaps in the walkway of the bridge that are pretty scary to cross even though you are securely tethered to a safety line.) Kudos to Noel, Jacob and Annalise for being fun and professional at the same time. The food in the restaurants is also tasty. Try the pizza. Try the burgers. Try the chicken wings. Try the slushie drinks. (Yum!) And definitely reserve the breakfast buffet when you check in. Again, this is not the typical hotel breakfast buffet of waffle, toast and cereal. There are lots of choices and everything is good. There is also a water park that looks fun, ATV tours and lots more to do, but we ran out of time. Overall, I can not recommend ACE adventures highly enough. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. The guides were professional and safety-minded while being fun at the same time. If you are looking for an adventure, this is the place. read more

Free beers and long zip lines, how could it get better? It started off with a little haste, we had gotten there a little late and had to switch from sandals to close-toed shoes. After this it was all smooth sailing, our instructors were very very kind and could whip up a conversation in no time. There was not a single moment I felt weary or frightened; the entire thing was so care-free and such an adventure. 10/10 would recommend and will be back tomorrow with a rafting review. read more

AOTG hosted our group retreat and I could not be happier with the entire experience. Our group of 15 booked our entire weekend rafting trip through their office. Shauna, the rep I dealt with was absolutely awesome and completely understanding of our situation. We did not experience the slightest hiccup during the whole process thanks to her. As for the trip itself, one word: Unbelievable! The New River Gorge is exquisite and our rafting guides, Mike and Kathy were absolutely amazing. Mike's knowledge of the area and the river was unparalleled. I will certainly be returning in September for Gauley Season and requesting Mike as my guide. This place is phenomenal! We did not stay here, but attended 2 different adventures: Tree Top and the ropes course (whatever it's called). Both were a blast. The guides/workers were incredibly congenial and helpful. The ropes course is definitely intense if you do all 5 courses - the last being MUCH more difficult than the previous 4. It was a blast though! HIGHLY recommend. There were kids on there as young as (I'd say) 12. (To give you an idea, I am in my 20s and in fairly good health.) The zipline was much more relaxing and enjoyable from a nature/scenic perspective. You actually go out of the immediate vicinity of the camp. I always felt safe, even while hurling at 35mi/hr toward a tree hundreds of yards away. For our low-key vacation, this was a perfect high-note. read more

As I was searching for a place to stay near the New River, Adventures on the Gorge was recommended to me. I made a reservation on a recent Saturday morning. The next day, after consulting with my wife, we decided we had to cancel the reservation. I called Sunday night to cancel, but the call center was closed so I left a message. On Monday morning, I spoke to the call center and cancelled my reservation. I was charged $79. I did NOT have the trip insurance, but was informed I would still have incurred a cost, even with the trip insurance. This is a ridiculous way to do business in today's world. They have made certain that I will do everything in my power to cost them more than $79 in business via poor reviews, and spreading to my friends that this is not an organization that values customers. I have already been able to convince one family to try a different place. The organizations that thrive today don't treat customers or potential customers this way. I highly recommend staying away from Adventures on the Gorge. They do not care about you, only your money. read more

My rafting buddy and I--he a first-timer, me a veteran--were thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and customer service of Class VI. Our guide, Andrew, truly made us feel like his raft was our raft. He knew much about the waterway, its history, and how to brave even its most daunting of swells (that and his sense of humor added levity to the run). My advice is to trust Class VI with your next adventure; we know we will. read more

Stayed in a new outback cabin during our 3 day inclusive package. The Treetop Ziplines were amazing, the Gravity zips were very fast and exciting. We had 2 days of rafting, each included a tasty lunch. Fantastic guides, good food. We will definitely return again for the activities. read more

I'm very impressed with this operation. The grounds - where you get set up for white water rafting - are well run and clean. I was actually surprised a seasonal operation would be so well-appointed. The staff was great and in particular our guide, JoBo, went to great lengths to teach us the ins and outs of whitewater rafting during our time on the river. Really good lunch was served too. It's a great way to spend an afternoon with friends or family or both. We took the beginner/intermediate route along the Gorge and there are some really hair-raising moments despite long periods of calm. I say do it! read more

Just got home from an AMAZING weekend at AOTG. Eleven of us from DC area drove over Friday night and stayed in two of the deluxe cabins on campus. Justin and Trenda were so helpful in booking our trip. (I think I called them about 15 times). The cabins were way above my expectations and everyone was comfortable. Very fancy hot tubs and heated bathroom floors!!! We split into two groups on Saturday- an Upper group and a Lower group- it's great that there are options for all comfort levels of rafting. My group was on the 8:25 Upper trip with Ray-Ray. This guy totally made the trip- set the tone and got us all so pumped! Hilarious! My group had Jillian for a raft guide. She was great! We had one complete boat spill on Sweets Falls- but what's a rafting trip without a great story??? Lunch on the river was outstanding. We also loved our included breakfast and dinner at Smokey's in the village. Loved reuniting with everyone an hour after the trip at Chettys pub to watch our video. The whole experience was just so awesome. I'm already planning our trip next October and we will definitely stay more days and take advantage of all the cool activities. read more

Amazing experience! First time rafting in the eastern U.S.- and it offered the perfect balance of challenge and fun. The guides we had made us feel very safe- but also gave us some great adventure. Did the lower Gauley the first day and the upper Gauley the second day. My husband and I just got back from an exhilarating weekend at Adventures on the Gorge. It was a long drive for us but well worth it. We stayed at the Outback Cabins- Glade Creek, which had all your linens and paper needs. It has a full kitchen and even laundry area. The hot tub on the deck is nice, just know that people will be walking by on the trail a few feet from the cabin and they are interested in what you are doing! We had 3 tours while we stayed there. We did the FatKat electric mountain bikes. My first time on an electric bike and I am addicted! These things are no nice. You exert no energy with these things. Since it was our first adventure, I didn't realize I should have brought tip money. We just came up from the cabin and didn't have any money on us. The guide was Brian and I went back the next day to tip him, but I never did see him again. I felt badly about that. Then we went on the New River 1/2 day raft trip. It was my first time rafting and I really liked it. It was so fun. The last thing was Tree Top. It was scarier than I was expecting. The sky bridges you walk across are even scary (for me). I would suggest a few things for first timers: If you get a cabin with a hot tub on the deck, hide a room key outside. When you close the door it locks automatically, so when I was in the hot tub, I had the door cracked open. Then my husband joined me and he shut the door. If we had hidden a key, we would have been in trouble. Also, when you come up the little road from the cabins, you arrive at a loop road that is one way. Thing is, there is no sign when you come up the hill and people forget that it is one way. We saw cars driving down the loop road the wrong direction. So I recommend putting up a "One Way" sign. We had a great lunch included with our adventure package. We really enjoyed our time here. All the guides were very nice and professional and helpful. Thanks for some great memories. read more

This is my third time visiting AOTG, and it won't be my last. I love this place. This year, we took on the Lower New River, under the expert leadership of Barry Rainwater. Barry and his team are great. We loved our guide, Alicia Vandall. Alicia is so knowledgeable on all things river -- especially the New River -- and her history facts were impressive. I had a bit of a traumatic spill around the "rodeo" at Miller's Folly, and Alicia was immediately attentive, professional, and I felt safe in her care. I can't say enough great things about this group of river runners. Thank you so much for the awesome experience and memorable stories. read more

I called 3 times to book an 'all inclusive' adventure for the weekend. I spoke to 3 people and no one seemed to know how online booking worked, what their packages were or the cost. As a result I was eventually forced into booking over the phone with an incompetent sales associate. Like all good deals... I was billed within seconds to only find that she rang me up for each service/adventure separately which brought the bill up by 40%. As soon as we hung up and I saw the receipt in my email I called back to figure out why. The associate said she couldn't help me because so and so rang it up and she would have to fix it in the morning. In the morning when I would be at work an inconvenienced of course. I asked to set a time for the call - 8 am. She agreed. So as i delayed making it to work on time... I never received a call. When I got home from work I called them to rectify the situation. The associate who answered once again could not help me despite how readily they took the money in the first place. I waited to speak with a manager that insisted it was my fault. No it wasn't. She also insisted that the costs are the same. I think $169 x 2 = $338 not $420? So yes, there was a difference. Frustrated by their lack of customer service and awareness for their services I insisted upon cancelling the trip. She said she could. (She probably didn't know how.) After being bullied for 10 minutes she said she could charge us each a $50 cancellation fee. Is that the fee to train her staff how to do their jobs properly? Because I'm not their employer and she needs to take that from her own pocket. I still insist that in situations of corporate incompetence, such as this, I should not be held liable. yet I have paid a fee. So please take caution when booking with these people. If they can't manage a phone call or booking I am certain you won't get a life preserver when you get thrown overboard by the chimpanzee leading the river rafting tour. read more

I have visited this amazing company several times and always enjoy my trip. They have the BEST New River Gorge rim location with a lookout down the canyon that takes your breath away. Before even mentioning their zipline and raft trips you are totally comfortable with how good it will be as their facility is top notch. Their restaurants are amazing and the changing facilities are first class. They are known everywhere as the most professional company. All their equipment is immaculate and every guide I have had on the New and Gauley Rivers were interesting and talented. You can't go wrong here. My husband and I got married at Adventures on the Gorge last month and it was our dream wedding. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating, the facilities and accommodations were incredible, and the activities were spectacular. It was a destination wedding for us and the vast majority of our guests were from out of state, but everyone said they will come back to Adventures on the Gorge because they had such a wonderful experience. The facilities are located in the most beautiful area. The views are literally breathtaking. All of our guests participated in rafting, lake trips, hiking, zip lining and kayaking leading up to the wedding weekend and had an absolute blast. It was truly a family friendly experience as many of our guests included young children. The staff worked with us on planning and coordinating group trips and did an excellent job managing our large guest list. In addition, Carol Wagner along with other staff assisted us in helping our guests secure and coordinate cabins accommodations. Everyone was helpful and friendly making it an amazing experience. As for our actual wedding events, the event coordinator Jessica Campbell went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend unforgettable. We had a welcome dinner on the pool deck one evening and we had our wedding reception in a tent on the grounds the next evening. The food was incredible and everything ran flawlessly. Thank you to everyone there!!!! We could not be more happy with our entire experience and we look forward to spending many more vacations there!!! read more

Had a fantastic time! The best part of what we did was the rafting. We did the marathon, which is a full day trip that takes you through the upper and lower portions of the Gauley. Our guide was Tom Horn and he made it look easy. We shot every rapid like pros. He lined us up exactly where we needed to be and we sailed right through every one of them. I have been on much smaller rivers with good guides and have flipped. I've also been on bigger rivers and I know what it feels like when a class V gets ahold of you the wrong way. I never so much as felt unsteady going through all 9 class V rapids. Would definitely love to go again and I'll be sure to ask for Tom when I do! We also did the gravity zip line. It was a blast. I came with a group of 7 other people and we got a bunkhouse. It was clean and the bathrooms were nearby and also clean. read more

Awesome environment, gorgeous views and weather, and the staff are attentive, friendly, and will do anything to help you at any time. The treetops zip line and whitewater guides are funny and enjoyable and really do a great job connecting with every guest. Was an amazing trip even after being thrown out of the boat. Ethan our guide was professional and knowledgeable of the river and all aspects of our trip. We did the Upper Gauley in Oct. Water was high and fast from dam release. I'd do this again in a heartbeat. Couldn't beat seeing the fall color's and this wild beautiful river. It's a must do if you like outdoors adventure. We also did the Gravity zip line tour. Awesome as the fog was thick to start and we couldn't see more then halfway across the line. It ends with AdrenaLine, the longest zip line on the East Coast. AdrenaLine is 3,150 feet long and reaches speeds of 60 miles an hour for a heart-stopping finish to the tour. All in all fantastic time. read more

One of the coolest places I've ever been. My husband and I had so much fun here that we came home and installed a climbing wall in our daughter's room and a 200+ foot zip line over the creek in our back yard. AOTG is truly like all of the best that summer camps had to offer us as kids, but bigger, better and pumped with adrenaline! It is a must-see but even more a must-do!! read more

My adventure-seeking friend and I came down to try our hands at whitewater rafting and took the Lower New trip. Before the trip was even over we were planning our next adventure, we were having that much fun. From the moment we walked up to check in and met our trip guide "Ray Ray" it would have been very difficult to not enjoy the experience. The staff were professional, knowledgeable and went out of their way to ensure that this trip was memorable. Our boat guide "Neo" explained each part of the river as we approached it, not only how we were going to navigate it but why, along with some history of the area. These guys are informative as well as entertaining. From navigating the river to the picnic lunch on a beach to jumping into the river from a large rock to swimming through a rapids this has been a memorable trip. I just watched the video this morning, it is going to have to satisfy me until we come back for the Fall Lower Gauley (and possibly the Upper too) and ziplining in October. I hope we can tag up with "Ray Ray" and "Neo" again. Thanks guys! read more

4 of us on a raft with 4 other people and the river guide named Tri - he was excellent. Tri is a local to the area with over 20 years experience as a rafting guide. You also get access to the resort and are allowed to swim in beautiful pool after with access to nice restrooms and showers. We ate at Buffler's pizzeria and it was delicious pizza. Only criticism is that Buffler's didn't have enough staff working the restaurant so it took about 50 minutes to get our pizza after we ordered it and server never came to check on us after she took our order. We also had to finally go up to counter to ask someone else to pay after waiting on her because she never brought our check. read more

Our guide was Sam (Smiley) Grake. You should ask ahead and try to get him to if you get the chance. He is very knowledgable and fun. We felt safe at all times. We are a family of four with two young teenagers who grinned from ear-to-ear for the entire trip. Sam pointed out an eagle nest. It was just our luck that an adolescent eagle was inside the nest while an adult was perched on a limb. Beautiful scenery and large waves. Special memories. Typically we don't purchase the photos taken at amusement parks, etc. but on this trip we got both the individual photos and the video created by photographers who boated ahead of us on kayaks. 100% recommend this experience to anyone who loves water. read more

Very cool place! My boyfriend and I decided to come here last minute over the July 4th weekend--I was surprised when I called on Thursday morning and was able to book a campsite through Sunday. The woman on the phone was extremely polite, patient and helpful. She even sent me e-mails (along with confirmation) with helpful information, such as directions to print out (since GPS doesn't always work in the camp area). This is a really good place if you want to experience the great outdoors but don't want to completely rough it. There's a convenience store, a coffee shop, great pool, overlooks, multiple bath houses and a bar/restaurant. It's also neat that you can book all of your activities on site. We did timbertrek, which was really fun, but we unfortunately were unable to book same-day rock climbing/kayaking, but that was because we waited until last minute on the Fourth of July. Some activities are unlikely to fill up completely, but it's probably safest to book ahead of time. Our campsite was good, but we also lucked out and didn't get campers where we were, so we had a lot of space to ourselves. The only complaint I have is that there were barely any trees (for collecting tinder/hanging a hammock) by our campsite, but we bought some fire starters, which worked well. Oh, and the employees deliver firewood to your site at night (upon request)! If you don't want to stick to a schedule and kind of want to wing it, which is what we did, you will still have a good time. You can hang out at the pool/pool bar, play on their disc golf course, rent bikes, go hiking, drive to the nearby park/lakes/river, or just hang out on the campsite (complete with picnic table and fire pit). I told Jessica I would write a review about my wedding at this locale on 9/26/15. In one word - it was 'fabulous'! The staff were welcoming and very informative. The setting was unbelievable. The food was delicious. We had a wonderful time. One example of how wonderful and helpful the staff was: My earring broke T minus 5 minutes of walking down the aisle - they broke out the hot glue gun to repair my earring for me. No questions asked - they knew just what to do. Best advice I can give a bride coming to this location for her wedding - meet Jessica on Thursday (or something similar) before the wedding - drop off everything you have to her with a brief idea of what you want - then let her do her thing - no questions asked. She does this every weekend - they are a well oiled machine. It was the best thing I did, so that I could enjoy myself during the weekend events. read more

This review is all about the food and accommodations. I run this river a few times a year and the rafting staff is completely awesome. I've come up to visit the area several times, but this is the first time I've stayed on the property and we won't be staying there again. I coordinated a small group to go rafting over the weekend and every one was very disappointed about the service. To start we arrived on Friday to camp. The sites are very close together which is fine. A group from the royal British Marines was at the resort that weekend and despite quite hours being posted they were extreme loud and annoying, keeping us up until 2am on the first. They were only drown out by a rain shower that quieted the evening. The next day we hit the river, half the group went to Bufflers bbq and the other half went to Smokeys. My groups breakfast experience at Smokeys the first day was great, plenty of food and the staff was great. The other half of my groups experience at buffers was bad, they had run out of a lot of stuff at 730 in the morning. We hoped on the river and did the Lower New. Our guide Hannah was very professional and ensured that my two young daughters stayed in the boat. Again AOG has this part down!! That evening we made reservation at Smokeys for 7pm. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. We went to get in line for the buffet and they were out of plates along with most of the food they were supposed to be serving. Sorry that's unacceptable for a $30.00 buffet menu. I was able to scrape an small salad together and after about 30 min I asked a staff member if we could go to one of the other places to eat. After looking at the menu at Chetts we decided to go into town after AOG honored our request to move our prepaid meal to breakfast the following morning. Sat evening we enjoyed some music and retired to our camp site at 10pm to relax and enjoy a fire. At 0439 I woke up to loud music coming from the Bloody British Marines!!! I'm sorry banging on a drum singing off key didn't impress me or anyone in my party. After speaking to the rest of the people in my party they told me that it started right after the bar closed.... I'm not sure if Brits can't read but quite hours are posted as you go back to the cabin and cabin areas. At 0440 in the morning I was looking for a number to call at the front desk but was unable to fine one. I ended up calling in a noise complaint via 911. Yes not the preferred method, but I didn't have much of a choice at that point. The Brits finally gave up there drunk-in stuper at 0500. We woke up complete exhausted after two nights of no sleep and went to breakfast at Smokeys at 940. As we arrived their was another party was in front of us. Now up to this point of our trip and previous breakfast experiences at Smokeys were all great, but once again AOG let us down. We again had to wait on food and plates. They let everything run out on the customers. I realize that they close at 10am, but when you have folks show up you need to respond to there needs in a timely manner. The bacon and cooked apples are great when available. Needless to say we felt bad for the wait staff, they did all they could to keep people happy. We cleared our site and I stopped by the front desk on my way out and I spoke with a woman at the counter. She proceeded to tell me that the Brits come once a year and they can be rowdy, and that security had issues keeping them in check.... Well sorry you need new security folks then. That kind of conduct is completely unacceptable for an establishment that hosts and supposedly caters to families. Looks like I'll be sleeping and eating at other establishments when I come back to raft.... Very disappointed. read more
