I popped in on a rainy Sunday and felt the curated vibe immediately - it was a nice break from the city and fun to see the highly efficienct use of space. One small table with two chairs are inside, so don't think to sit for a while with a group. I was the 4th person in there and had trouble finding a place to stand without feeling in the way. Nevermind that, it's worth the cozy feel as my iced chai was delicious with a good spice flavor - not just a huge cup of sweet milk. This is more of a coffee counter type location, with a 2 seat table and small standing table inside - although when the weather is nice there are some tables outside to sit. I ordered an iced coffee with caramel ($1 surcharge) in the smaller size (16oz?) which should have been $6.25. The iced coffee was both a little too bitter and watery for my liking, but I do appreciate that they have a self-service area for milks, sweeteners, different lids/straws to self-customize to taste. I didn't realize until after I left and got the receipt that I was charged for a large 20-oz summer seasonal drink that also had caramel in it, which was over $10. For an iced-coffee-on-a-weekend-walk, this just was not the place for it. read more

Been to the original St Kilda? This one's smaller, but with the same great taste. When I want a pour over, either St Kilda location is my favorite when I'm in Hell's Kitchen. I've been a customer for half a decade. I've visited all their locations (pouring one out for their Chelsea store). This location (West 46th) is the smallest. Inside, there's room for two. Sidewalk-side, find a few tables. Cozy feel[1]. People watch, or have a discreet date[2]. Love St Kilda like I do? Rep them and buy a tee or a tote. Or both. Credit accepted. No bathroom. This is a cute coffee shop that is very cozy. It was crowded when I got there. Only a few tables outside and they were pink! There was just one table inside and it was taken. I had a stroller and thankfully I fit in the shop with it. I got a small iced latte and I can taste the coffee notes. It's not like any other coffee I tried. It had different notes in it. When I got it, it had black sprinkles inside the latte. I think that is what makes it flavorful. I got it with whole milk so it eliminates the bitterness. Very creamy. St Kilda Coffee has a lot of grounded and coffee beans for sale. They have different types of coffee beans for sale and other merchandise like tote bags and coffee filters. read more

Decent coffee, on the fruitier side. We got 2 drip coffees, complimentary with our two bags of coffee beans we bought. I guess there are a few locations, and this one is quite tiny, where there's just one table when you walk in, and the coffee counter. Nice little place to pause for a sec, order a coffee and leave, offering a little respite from the cold. Because it's so small though, no bathrooms for customers, a pain if need to go! read more

This is the spot. I'm from San Francisco where light coffees are king and I'm extremely picky. I had good luck while in Brooklyn with SEY which was . Manhattan has been a bit tougher with the saturation of shops, and latte art with trendy names isn't a reliable calling card any longer. I scored a really great espresso tonic perfect for 95 degree heat at % Arabica, and some good drip at WatchHouse. Today I was outside of another promising looking Bird & Branch, but the ambiance just wasn't speaking to me. I took a moment to scan yelp and found St Kilda. Aussie coffees? Reliably light and focus on unique single origins. Verdict? FIRE The baristas were lovely and I had a pleasant chat with them about coffee and brew methods. They even hooked me up with some tiny samples of their drip - the true test of a coffee shops bonafides - to decide which I wanted. They have a co-ferment Colombia right now that's gonna blow your socks off if you like bright, citrusy coffees. I wish I had found this spot before my last morning in NYC. Cozy little café located at Chelsea. The Aussie name makes me nostalgic as it recalls my childhood memories at St Kilda Beach in Melbourne. One of the best places in town to have single origin artisan coffee at affordable price. They sell an excellent selection of supreme quality coffee beans, like Sey Coffee, Little Wolf and Traffic. Note that their storefront is low key so you might oversee it. The store is decently decorated with plants and climbers. ＊ Cappuccino w/ Oat Milk I was thrilled that the barista added a dash of cocoa powder on the cappuccino! It is rare in NYC yet a common thing in Australia and some European countries. The espresso base was fruity and bright. I prefer darker roast beans pairing with my milk coffee, so I will certainly order pour over to taste the light roast beans of its fullest next time. ＊ Hot Mocha The hot mocha was amazing. Stopped by on a sunny afternoon. It's not as popular as Fellini just down the street, but it's a solid coffee place. They rotate their beans. When I went it was Sey coffee. The beans were fruity. They also make their milk alternatives in house and don't charge extra for them which was nice. This was a great Australian coffee shop that we came to every day while we stayed at The High Line Hotel. I'm from Sydney originally so always appreciate an Australian place. The aesthetic here is full of light and plants. It reminds me of many places in LA. Both coffee and matcha options here are excellent. I haven't found a lot of cafes that do matcha very well so I was glad to find that the one here was good. Would recommend for a great little coffee shop in Chelsea. read more

I love all Aussie coffee and food joints in nyc so made a trip to the 8th ave store. Very disappointing. I had a decaf Cortado - un- drinkable. Had the barista remake as thought the milk was off. St Kilda is a great spot, but easy to miss because of its rather unfortunate location next to one of the neighborhood's shadier convenience stores. The minimalist decor and smooth espresso flavor profile remind me a lot of the "hip" coffee shops in the SF Bay Area. Flavor-wise, if you are a fan of Blue Bottle, I think you will like this, too. As soon as I saw this place pop up in my neighborhood, I knew it was gonna be a great coffee spot. You can just tell from the vibe and interior. One morning on my way to work I decided to walk a few extra subway stops and got a cappuccino on my way. There was no line when I walked in and I was greeted properly. I drink at least one cappuccino a day and consider myself a coffee snob at times. In my opinion there are a few signs if a coffee shop makes a great cappuccino or not. (1) They don't ask what size you want (it should always be a small and I don't mean a Starbucks "tall") (2) They don't ask if you want it iced or hot (caps should only be served hot) (3) They care enough to make nice latte art (which means they know how to foam the milk properly) (4) They sprinkle some chocolate powder as the cherry on top (it's so French but I love it) Alright, that was my rant about cappuccinos. Now back to St Kilda: They hit all four items on the list, so I'm very happy! The place is small, but feels pretty airy. They seem to offer pastries but no food. You can also buy their merch in the shop. I'm not sure if they have Wi-fi but if they do, it is a great place to get stuff done. Either way, I will definitely come back for more. read more

I thought this place must be brand-new, since it never showed up in my Yelp search for a coffee shop in the very narrow area where it is. I stumbled upon it anyway, and then couldn't find any reference to "St. Hilda Coffee," which is what the name on the door and the packaging looks like to me. So, not my favorite font. Anyway, my experience once there was a lot better than my experience of not being able to find it. The place is cute, and was one of the only real coffee shops in the neighborhood still open at nearly 6 on a weekday. Service was friendly and helpful, the iced coffee was excellent, and the lemon poppyseed(-ish) cake I got was quite good for having been around since the am. Thumbs up! Excellent coffee! As an aussie expat, sometimes you just want a flat white with not burned milk and this was an excellent cup. They have a few seats, wifi and power outlets.
