I would give them a zero if I could, but you have to give them something to submit a review. I specifically called and asked if they accept medicaid and they told me Yes. I drove there on the day of my appointment and they told me they dont take medicaid and there is a $25 copay. I went to a retina specialist, I go to very good doctors and dont have a copay, and they didnt even say there is one on the phone. I am on soc. sec. and I didnt have that money, Also, It's really hard for me to go anywhere because of spinal damage, and I dont have a special car for my wheelchair, so I have to walk in excruciating pain from the car to the door, often pretty far... They are not a responsible, respectable business. I am writing this to warn anyone who uses medicaid, do not go there, they are dishonest and have no consideration for anyone. Dr, Michaels has a lovely bedside manner. He is amazingly instinctive & brilliant with one's needs for your vision and knowing your lens strength. He's able to determine by your previous glasses if they will continue to provide future comfort or to progress to a stronger lens. The owner/manager/billing person is the rudest person in the world. I have called one month prior to appointment, verified that they take my insurance. Everything was confirmed by them. After my wife with kid went to the appointment, the owner/manager/billing person called me that this eye exam appointment is not covered by my insurance. I have tried to tell her that they need to tell me that when I was verifying the insurance with them one month prior, then I would go to some other provider. So this person, instead of being nice and try to fix things within their business not to lie customers, she try to make it my fault and after all, just hangs up on me. I will never go to this place again, and make sure to tell everyone I know about this experience. Owner/Manager/Billing is one person in all. Nobody to talk above her and this business practices. Update to answer to comment below 10/4/2018: That is not the point. The point is that I send you my insurance card and specifically asked to verify if your service is covered under my insurance card. Now, if you cannot verify, you should of told me exactly that we are not able to verify. Instead, you told me that all is verified and you are covered and it will cost co-pay of $20. Really like this place and especially like Dr. Michael! I was in several weeks ago and felt so welcome, so I have been meaning to write a review. This place is so much better than Pearl Vision or Costco Optical. Though I think Dr. Michael and his receptionist also speak Russian, I had no problem whatsoever with their English. Another big highlight: I did not feel pressured into buying frames there. They were very accommodating about explaining exactly how I would enter my prescription into Zenni. Dr. Michael was the best! He took care of me and was very fast, professional, and proficient. My family loves going to see him! Also Julie, is a sweetheart. She called me notifying me that my glasses were ready 30 mins before they were closing and said she wouldn't mind waiting for me past closing hours, if needed, in order to pick up my glasses! Dr. Michael was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and thorough. He explained everything. I then referred my daughter and my husband. Both were not only amazed but extremely happy with their "new eyes". We all now could see clearly and crisply. For all of us that was the most important! Of course, it didn't hurt that they do offer a great selection of styles of glasses. Prior to Affordable Optical, we were going to COSTCO Optical. I have no problems whatsoever with COSTCO nor its professionals but in our case the Dr. there totally misdiagnosed us. I am referring everyone to Affordable. I tried to place an order over the phone for contacts. I gave the girl my prescription and my insurance. She told me it would cost $100 for a box of 6 monthly, $200 total since my prescription is different in each eye. I asked her if that was with the insurance and she said yes. I was taken aback since I've never paid this much. I told her that I've never paid that much and her response was,"that's the cost". I decided to shop around, Costco doesn't take my insurance, their cost was $74 per eye for 6 month supply, a total of $148..much better than $200. I went to the website Contacts Direct, I ordered a 1 years supply for both eyes for $162!!! I got exactly what I wanted. I called Affordable and told the girl the huge price difference, her was response was OK (several times)! I would totally support local business but at this expense. They were really nice when I originally went to get my glasses and it was obvious this girl was not the same that helped me. I would recommend to check out Contacts Direct first. read more

Very pleased with Affordable Optical. I called various places to get the best rate for a contact lens prescription and this was it. As I waited to see Dr, Michaels I noticed the trendy and stylish frames they sell. I got new frames that I'm so pleased with I will actually take my contacts out and wear glasses once in a while. As far as Dr. Michael's, he is friendly, courteous, kind and personable. Also quick to the point to get you exactly what you need. What more could you ask for! Also seems to be family run. Dr. Michaels is excellent professional, but the front desk staff is misleading. My insurance covers frames upto $100 and gives 20% off on everything above $100. I chose frame for $169, but I was told that it was already discounted price and 20% off do not apply - like it make difference for them if I pay $69 and insurance pays $100, or I pay 20% less and insurance pays 20% more. This review is strictly about the Wheeling location and their horrible service. I do not recommend this place or Dr. Michaels. I am not please with his or his staff's service. I went in for an appointment over a year ago and decided not to go back because of how unprofessional the establishment and it's worker's were with me when I had a problem with my eyeglasses. They were too focused on making me keep a pair of glasses that didn't fit my face, fell down a lot, and caused numerous headaches. Come to find out a year later "Dr." Michaels put a astigmatism in my eye glasses and did not let me know. I already got my eyes tested before going to him this was my 2nd eye exam that year and I was not told about a astigmatism before. So for him to add a astigmatism to my eye glasses was so unnecessary and actually damaged my eye sight. My eyes spent so much time focusing in those glasses that it caused more headaches, dizzyness, fatigue, redness, and burning. I bought a pair of eyes glasses that I could even use. The eye exam was so quick with him and I felt like I was not being fully checked out. He spent about less than 5 minutes and just referenced my old prescription from a year ago. I didn't provide him with the recent one that I got that year. Anyways long story short I went back to my childhood eye doctor and they said he did not need to add the astigmatism to my eye glasses because I DIDN"T NEED it! Now I am paying more to fix the lenses that they put in because I can't properly focus. All along I thought I just had to get used to the anti reflective coating they added and possibly a stronger prescription when really it was the fact that a no good doctor added something Extra to my eyeglasses that was not actually needed. Thanks for wasting my money. Thanks for wasting my time. Thanks for nothing. Worse experience ever here! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE OR THE so called doctor! I wish I would have came in earlier but how would I have know that they added something else to my eye glasses without telling me. I only found out when I had my glasses checked and complained about the problems with it. I am so mad I picked this place and wasted all that time and money. I hope no one else has to go through this. I will be ranking them 1 on every site I can find to save future patients from going to this place. I hope they close this place down.
