I had a great dining experience at Afghan Kabob House. It's a very nice, friendly joint. My wife and daughter ordered the Mantū box, and I had the Chapli box. The mantu and chapli were very nice with tender meat and great flavors. The overall atmosphere and service were welcoming, making it a perfect family meal. I recently found out about this place from the Yelp feed. The photos of the qabuli rice looked amazing, so when we got the chance, we picked up dinner to-go. The menu is simple and straightforward, the concept is novel (afghani food in a pizza box) and I liked that they didn't have an overwhelming amount of entrees to choose from, a signal that this was gonna be good. Growing up, my family would get Afghani good once in a while in the Chicago suburbs and I loved the palow/rice and the green chutney, which I would slather on everything. It had been a long time since I last had Afghani food... maybe a decade? I couldn't wait! I called in an order and was told our food would be ready within 20 minutes. For two adults, we ordered: * qabuli palow box (lamb shank) * chapli kabob box (beef, qabuli rice) * veggie box (white saffron rice) * mantu box * 2 extra cups of green chutney The service was quick and friendly. When I arrived, they opened each box to show me what the food looked like. Their meat is also halal. The food was fresh and so, so good. The Qabuli palow box comes with a fall-apart lamb shank, and with some entrees you get to choose between qabuli rice or white saffron rice. Their store is really cozy with just a few tables for seating. I think the establishment is mostly for delivery or take-out orders. They had a fridge full of baklava and drinks, and a huge warmer by the cash register to stash orders that were ready to go out the door. The food was so good. My favorite was the Veggie Box and I immediately googled recipes for the lubiya kidney beans and the potato stew because I wanted to know more about the flavors and how they're made. Their prices are just right and their portions will leave you with plenty of leftovers. I highly recommend! We will be back soon to try the other items on their menu (chicken kabob box and their lamb tikka kabob). I hear they have lunch specials as well. Five shining stars! read more

I have never had afghani food, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I loved this stuff. I'll never remember the afghani names for what I ate, but we had dumplings covered in lentils, minced beef patties, curry potatoes, flat bread, and rice that had carrots and raisins. I loved it all. It was a looooong wait. They had 3 big catering orders before we got there and they weren't exactly prepared for it, so it ended up taking nearly 50 min for our food. They couldn't have been more apologetic though and honestly, I felt really bad for them. The young people at the register were stressed from all the orders coming in. They said that most days are slower, so I don't think that's a regular night. As an apology for our wait, they threw in a couple of pieces of baklava and I called it good. They first offered me a free meal which I declined. Free dessert was good enough for me. They only have 2 tables, so you might just want to order takeout. read more

Afghani Box recently opened in a small plaza on Ogden near River Rd. The interior is small and only has two tables, so takeout is best. It has a red & black color scheme, which they also use for their boxes that the food is served in. The menu is limited, but they focus on quality over quantity. The lady (presumably owner) I spoke to emphasized the fresh ingredients and quality of food, and said they use Fatima brand halal meat. I ordered an Afghani box (of course) and a Qabuli palow. The boxes were bigger than I expected, so a good amount of food for the money. The Afghani box included a chapli kabob (minced meat), 3 pieces of manti (dumplings), fries, beans, bread, rice, and two sauces. The kabob was tender, juicy, and very flavorful; it had a bit of a kick to it. The manti was pretty good, and the beans, bread, and rice were decent. The fries had an interesting seasoning. The white sauce was very flavorful, and the green sauce had a kick to it; both very good. The Qabuli was also very good. The rice with carrots and raisins was moist and flavorful. The lamb was fairly tender and flavorful. The amount of rice was probably more than needed for the size of the shank, but it's fine. Overall, the food was amazing. I drive past this place almost daily & I finally stopped in to order dinner. I want everything on the menu, but tonight had the lamb tikka kabob, quabuli rice, salad, naan, & extra white sauce & green chutney. Everything is SO GOOD! Perfect char on the lamb, salad full of fresh veg and mint, the rice so flavorful, puffy naan & I wanted to drink both sauces! The storefront is clean, modern, and it smells great when you walk in and the presentation of the entire meal in a pizza box is very clever! The two vegetarian options are the kidney bean curry and the potato curry, both of which come in the Veggie Box. I regret that there are no vegetarian dumplings. The box is the size of a smallish pizza box and comes with salad, rice, a small piece of flatbread, two small containers of condiments, and the two vegetarian curries. The salad was more flavorful than expected with cilantro (so avoid if you don't like that); the kabouli rice was delicious and copious. Sauces are a thin yogurt sauce and a green salsa-like one. The baklava is generous with 2 big pieces for $3.99; it's not soaking in honey; I thought it was fine, and the spouse, who usually doesn't like baklava, said it was the best he's ever had. Drinks are bottled water; canned soft drinks; or a homemade yogurt drink. Box is more than enough for a hungry person but not enough for two hungry people. Service was fast and it's pleasant but small; in addition to the two tables there are padded chairs to wait on. Easy parking. read more
