It's always been a must for me to order it and I will eat it no matter how filling or full I become/already am. So, for you cheese lovers... Try the Akkawii Pie. On a side note, their servings are quite large. Even with their sandwiches, I get full quite easily. So, don't like appearance fool you! If you order a plate, be prepared to take it to go. If you're able to finish your plates, I give you kudos. The staff is friendly, the environment is questionable. It's not because it's loud, but it's because I don't feel very sanitary when I am there. I've seen worse, but this place definitely isn't the best when it comes to "cleanness." Being someone who has OCD and is a germaphobe, it won't stop me from trying the food, but my experience in the restaurant will decrease if I feel like I don't really want to "touch anything." Good baklava! I wish the atmosphere was a bit more special. It feels like a buffet. It also gets loud because there is so much space above (high ceilings!), it amplifies the sound of screeching chairs and conversations like a cafeteria. Food is good, priced well. Some of their sweets can be too sweet, but the hot meals are good! I do have a complaint about how a situation was taken care of at this location. I witnessed a man who I assume was homeless (or just looked worn down and rough) trying to eat here, but was denied service. He had the money, too! They refused the serve him although he had money. I'm not sure if they've had previous bad experience with him, but I couldn't help but feel bad for him because he's just trying to feed himself. :( Also, UTD students are/were supposed to get a promo where they get a free scoop of ice cream. Apparently, they changed policy, so it's supposed to be a free baklava, but our waiter was giving us a hassle about how the older policy should've been removed from the ads and that it was troublesome for us to inquire why we thought we were mistakenly billed for ice cream. read more

Afrah is a plenum of marvelous, wondrous things that humans enjoy. As far as Persian and/or Mediterranean joints in the DFW go, Afrah takes the cake for having some of the most authentic and truly delicious middle eastern dishes on their menu. We ordered the hummus to start. There are so many options for appetizers and oven baked sides that I was reticent to order ole hummus, but my wife insisted. She's some kind of wizard. It's a bold call to make, but I will take that nude dive into the frozen river and say that Afrah's hummus is probably the best I've had. Creamy and savory, the hummus was served with ample olive oil- something that is often overlooked. The bread that comes with it is massive and puffed, joyfully spewing forth steam as you tear it open. The akkawi from the oven baked section of the menu is completely insane. Melted Arabian cheese will make you feel things you didn't know you were capable of feeling. I would suggest that this is a must-order item if you are lucky enough to make it here. The beef kabob is beautifully seasoned and, like the other meat dishes, comes with a variety of sides. We had the basmati kabsa rice and fattoush. The rice was nice, but the fattoush was the star of the night. The vinaigrette was unbelievable, though I couldn't quite place the seasoning. Who cares? Eat it. Your mind will be alright with it. We brought a two year old with us who chose this particular night to exhibit a whole host of embarrassing behaviors, but the ambience of the restaurant swallowed up most of his noisiness. The waitstaff was extremely helpful, and if they were annoyed they were gracious enough to hide it behind a convincing smile. My wizardwife conjured up some baklava at the end of our repast. I don't particularly like sweets, but I'll admit the baklava was pretty nice. If you like sweet shit that'll destroy your teeth, eat the filo and honey-covered pistachios with glee. You should go here if you can't decide which of the myriad Persian places to go in Richardson. And if you're just looking to whet your whistle with Persian food for the first time, give it a shot. Pleasantly surprised that this place has Vegan and Gluten Free options marked on the menu. The server did have to check with the kitchen about an item on the menu for food sensitivity, The food was tasty and then the portions were huge! Loved the babaganoush, gyro, and lamb. We weren't huge fans of the copious amounts of tomatoes, pickles, and assorted pickled veggies on every plate. Next time, I'd ask for them to leave it off. Service was good and the place is huge. Only reason for knocking a star off is I walked in and stood around waiting for a solid minute or two while the girl at the hostess stand chatted with coworkers, none of whom greeted me, and then similarly had to wait while the girl at the gelato counter was also too busy chatting with coworkers to acknowledge me and he growing line behind me until my server asked her to help me. This time I wanted to surprise HIM with a local restaurant that Guy Fieri featured on his show and said was good. Tonight was our first time going to Afrah - and we were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. From the hot tea with very fresh mint (it was cold tonight) to the Kafta my husband ordered to my beef shawarma - everything was well seasoned, very fresh, and so tasty. And the pita bread was the best pita either one has ever eaten. It tasted as if they just pulled it from the oven - so soft, warm, and fresh. We both agreed that my husband's order of Kafta tasted like the staff was having a bbq out back and they took his Kafta off the grill and put it on his place. Oh, man! It was SO GOOD! I am SOOO getting that next time! There was a great mix of types of customers - from all walks of life and age groups. We both topped it off with a mango/pistachio gelato mix. Again, fresh and tasty! I used to go to this restaurant since they were in the smaller building next door, and enjoyed their food. However, since last year I noticed the quality of food has gone down drastically. I was there couple of days ago and was not pleased at all with what I saw. Empty Chafing dishes, at least 10 people waiting to get some desert of the corner of the buffet line while their staff was struggling to keep up and refresh a little that was out there and hardly keeping up. There was no sight of their Kabob in the empty chafing dish and only 3 pcs of chicken left. Looks like they are gearing out more toward fried food and gyro. Most of the side sauces are gone and hummus was nothing like it used to be. It tastes like something out of commercial restaurant cans. With the volume of the business they receive these days, It seems that they don't care anymore about up keeping and quality of food they used to have in their lunch buffet. My husband is a big fan of this restaurant. The building is beautiful and the high ceilings inside make it look elegant. The outside porch is for those who would like to hookah, which I'm not a fan of, but you can't smell it when you're inside. We usually get the beef/lamb gyro with a side of their hot sauce (make sure to request the hot sauce). I personally don't think the gyro has enough veggies in it, but thats just me. I love Lebanese food and I LIKE this restaurant, but they are overly proud of their food with entrees over $20, they are extremely overpriced. Nothing impressive; bland interior with average Lebanese food (all the food). Service is not good (just OK) and I can get, at many other places, GREAT food like this for much cheaper with higher quality. There were a lot of tables that needed to be cleaned/bussed; that is never taken well by customers coming in to enjoy a good mean sitting around dirty tables. I am sure they are doing something good, the parking lot was full, as it is most of the day when I pass by. The bottom line is that you should definitely try Afrah and form your own opinion (unfortunately, I don't feel it's appropriate to list other places for you to try). Afrahs has delicious food at an affordable price. This was my fourth visit and I have never been disappointed. If you are a little nervous about trying it, I would recommend going for the lunch buffet because there is a huge selection of items. A lunch buffet without drink costs $10.81. They also have a great vegetarian menu with falafel and yummy fried cauliflower. I highly recommend Afrahs. To me, this is the most overrated middle eastern restaurant in the area. Everyone talks about it and suggests it but as an Arab from Shams, I have to strongly disagree. The food isn't great and the prices are a lot higher than average. The service is absolutely horrible, I took my mother one time and we sat at the table for 20 minutes before we decided to leave and eat somewhere else. That was the third time I complained about the service and the last time I ever went. The shawarma is really dry and the garlic sauce tastes terrible. They do have really good fresh bread and the hareesa is probably the best of any restaurants in the area. I think this place got famous and the quality probably went down, pretty unfortunate. I've been to Afrahs about 3 times now. I've enjoyed the first 2 visits especially since I tried the buffet! The 3rd and recent one I wasn't super impressed with and I ordered off their regular menu. The buffet is amazing! Unlimited amounts of Mediterranean food? Can it get any better? Usually buffets kind of suck and isn't as good as you would think (especially Chinese buffets) but Afrahs is great! I don't know what the price is now, but before when I went during lunch it was definitely worth the price. Plus they are in a new location now that's bigger! I went recently and I got the beef sharwama and chicken sharwama with fries. I wasn't impressed with the beef sharwama at all, it was pretty dry and it barely had any sauce. The sauce they gave us was weird too, I've tried garlic and taziki sauce before but this one was too thick and you couldn't dip fries or the sandwich in it. The chicken sharwama was better, the chicken was juicer and it came with fries inside so it was solid! The fries we got were good but I feel like I've had better fries at other Mediterranean restaurants. I haven't tried the plates but I've heard good things about it, next time I am going to try that! Definitely need to come check out afrahs again before I stick with a 3/5 One plus is if you check in to afrahs on Yelp, you get a free scoop of gelato! The Pistachio flavored gelato is amazing! Afrah is one of our favorite restaurants in Richardson. The food is always delicious, impeccably fresh, with gracious service, and amazing house-made pastries and/or gelato for dessert. We have never had a bad experience here, and they are ALWAYS able to handle larger parties with ease. Guy Fieri came for the chicken schwarma, and it is truly outstanding. But the beef schwarma is just as good -- crispy eggs, tender middles, and wonderfully flavored with exotic spices. It's my personal favorite, with the wonderfully smoky and tangy baba ganouj and the fattoush salad, studded with crisp toasted pita chips and dressed simply in a tangy dressing. Lamb kebab and grilled lamb are also delicious. The lamb is always cooked exactly as the diner asks. We have one that likes rare to medium-rare lamb and another that likes theirs cooked medium -- both are always just right. Afrah's hummus is smooth and fresh tasting, enhanced but not overpowered with fresh garlic and lemon juice, with just the right amount of tahini. I also love the bight and fresh tabbouleh salad -- which a family member sometimes orders and shares with me (she has a "no leafs" policy --LOL) Whether we are 4, 6, or 18 -- Afrah can always accommodate us, and we are always impressed with the service. 5 well-earned stars!! read more

I was really expecting some great Mediterranean food due to the reviews but I was highly disappointed. I ordered the Hummus and it was very unseasoned. I had to mix it in a garlic and tzatziki sauce otherwise it was like eating cold chickpeas. The chicken schwarma had no flavor. I am used to getting very seasoned and spicy chicken at Mediterranean places but this was not the case, nothing worse than bland chicken, I guess that's why they serve a very potent garlic sauce with it. I also ordered a beef filet shish kabob sandwich that was not a hit with me. Our waitress got us the wrong side item we ordered Basmati Kabsa Rice and I said this very clearly and we got fries. When I told the waitress this she returned with Vermicelli Rice. Other than the fresh baked pita bread it was not an enjoyable experience. I don't plan on going back. read more

Invited my family here for a birthday bash. We ended ended up ordering the family feast for 12.
