Fried fish, Fried Okra Soup with Fufu, Pepper soup

This place is a new favorite of mine. We went in to try African food for the first time, and honestly.. this was definitely the right place. We fried 3 different meals, fried red snapper, fried okra with fufu, pepper soup, and a side of rice. All of which was amazing. The fufu was fresh and hot and absolutely amazing with the okra. Everybody here is very friendly. It feels like coming over to somebody's house to eat dinner. Very fun, very inviting. Decorated super cute with the news or the game playing. We will definitely be back.

Amazing! I've been looking for a good place to try fufu for a while now and came across this restaurant due to a TikTok. And it is amazing. Stop reading this and go try it! We got the popular dishes: fufu (of course), Palm Butter soup, Egusi soup, and Jollof rice, with a side of plan rice. Everything was SO so so flavorful and delicious. Whatever spices are being used blend so beautifully together and make for a taste explosion. Definitely a bit spicy, but a flavorful spicy. The fufu with palm butter, oooooh my gosh. The jollof rice! mmmmmmm the chicken that came with the jollof rice was so crisp and delicious. We are absolutely going to be back to this restaurant and I would encourage everyone to go try it. The owners/staff are so nice too. Amazing all around :) Oh and for the portion sizes, this can easily feed 4-6 people.

ALERT*******THIS PLACE SEEMS LIKE THE REAL DEAL************** African Kitchen is a small African Restaurant located in that part of Phoenix that boarders Glendale and isn't far from The Metro Center. They offer a variety of African dishes. I know one dish we tried was from Liberia and another was Ghanaian. On the wall they post ingredients that are in the food to help you decide. Soft beverages and some African beverages are available like ginger juice. The atmosphere is very loud. They have a TV on and the people dining there are very into conversation. You get a lot of food but proteins are on the small side and you get enormous plates of rice here. We noticed a lot of people doing take out but several also dined in. If you don't regularly eat African Food DON'T GET the TORBORGEE Soup because you will have a bad reaction to it....... We tried the palava sauce soup and the tilapia with dry rice and plantains. Both were filled with flavors that we've never tried before. Everything seemed like it was prepared well. For us it was odd to be served such a large amount of rice but we did notice there that African people eat that way. Take a trip to African Kitchen for a taste of Africa.

If you been in the phx metro area and crave West African food, you probably know about the restaurant "authentic Liberian cuisine" . Well that gem abruptly closed and this place popped on my radar. A more than worthy replacement. The service was prompt and the staff are extremely conversational and chill. The cassava leaf was beyond IMMACULATE. The plantains were fried to perfection and salted just right. 25/10 recommend!!!

I've been wanting to try West African food for a long time, and was excited to try it. I got the Palm Butter Soup with fufu-and it was amazing! A rich depth of savory flavor complimented well by the fufu (which tasted like mashed potatoes). The best part was that I felt good after eating it-no heavy, bloated feeling even though I was full. I felt energized, even though it was in the evening. And, though made with palm oil, the soup did not taste greasy to me (I will be honest that I do have a high tolerance for greasy food, so what seems good to me might be a lot for someone else. I didn't get pictures of the interior, but the tables are nice with lovely artificial white roses in crystal-like vases.

My son wanted to try Fufu so I brought him here today. We got the Fufu with pepper soup and a side of plantains. I've had Fufu and pepper before (over 28 years ago since I've had it, my godmother who's from Nigeria used to make it for me). It was delicious!!!! My son loved it too!!! Will definitely be back.

But if you put Sriracha on Everything, then this is the place for you. I ordered the spicy goat pepper soup with the fufu and it was heavenly. My only complaint was the portion sizes. All of the portion sizes are very small for the amount money you pay, thus the 3 star rating. The delicious of the food added the additional star which is why ultimately decided on a 4. My friends all got the lunch specials and they weren't happy with the quantity. I ordered my husband the beef "patties" to go, only to discover it was only a singular "patty" for $6. And if you have a party of 5 people and or more, they automatically add a gratuity to your bill. The restaurant is small on the inside but has a nice front patio outside which was shaded. On a nice night, it'd be romantic to sit out there. Overall, I'll be back to this place. But be prepared to order double portions per person, so you'd spend about $40/person before tips and taxes.

Things started off pretty good. We sat right at 6pm. Service was really spotty. A woman was kind and quickly refilled our water. Our server took a while to arrive and greet us. As chefs we were there to both catch up on life as well as see what the hype is all about . Appetizers- out of the Agua Chile. We ended up starting with the whipped goat cheese and wings. Then ordered the lamb, shrimp moqueca, and the oxtail. Yes, three entrees for two people along with 4 glasses of wine and two starters. All good intended to be hot except for the wings came out cold. We asked for medium rare on the lamb and it came out mid well. They kept trying to remove our dishes during dinner- several time, while we still had food on the plates. Our server actually came and took my plate without my permission. He cleared our table and asked if there was anything else and we said we wanted to see a dessert menu. He instead brought us out check. We asked again for the dessert menu and he said they only had one dessert and it was a bread pudding. After reading other reviews I noticed this was just a lie to get us out. Can't think your guests are that stupid. We still had wine in our glasses and declined the one dessert. Been there exactly 1 hr and 45 minutes at that point. He came to our table almost immediately after and said he hated to be the bearer of bad news but the next reservation is here and we need to go. That's after we tipped him generously. Just a little advice- post on your reservation page you have a time limit, don't be rude, let people eat. Chicken was dry and over cooked. Food was seasoned well. Server left a bad taste... I hope my feedback helps.

But, unfortunately for me my experience was the exact opposite . This location is set in the Tempe food court. So automatically I was turned off by the fact it's not personable no interaction with the actual creator or business owner . You have to order through a kiosk ( which I do understand the idea of conveniency culture .) But places like this deserve to be show cased . What I ordered was fried plantains, Ogbono Soup , with two pieces of chicken , poundo fufu, and two sodas . For starters , The plantains were a bit undercooked, the soup was lacking flavor very ( oily , had no other contents but broth and the chicken ) so what was advertised on the menu looked NOTHING like what I got , no fixings such as ( no okra , the peppers etc) . The chicken was dry and it didn't taste fresh at all , it had this peculiar after taste I couldn't quite put my finger on. Overall I wasn't at all satisfied with my food and I'd say this meal in particular wasn't worth the $51.00 whatsoever. I want to say I stand firmly on supporting black businesses, but I won't lie about my experience. I'd say i would give this place a second try and at least come back to try the Jollof rice since that seems to be their top seller as it was sold out .

Wow! For $17 I got the vegan combo plate and it came with 2 sides -- I opted for the mesir wat (spicy lentils) and gomen (collard greens). The mesir wat and gomen came beautifully wrapped in an injera, with a salad on the top and two very large rolled up injeras. This combo would be more than enough for two people to share. I ordered right as they opened and my order came fairly quickly (~40 mins), so I was really happy with that as well. The mesir wat was seasoned spectacularly! Just enough heat that pairs with the savory flavor. The gomen also was deliciously garlicky, all coming together so harmoniously with the sourness of the injera. I was worried that ordering it for delivery would affect the experience, but everything came nice and warm and it was so great to have this meal at home. I definitely will need to come in next time, with friends for sure, I could not finish this combo on my own.

This recent visit was my third time having Ethiopian food, and I went in with an open mind. I remembered the last time I had Ethiopian food, I didn't really enjoy it. You have the option of choosing from their platters, or you can build your own. I created my own platter - I got the lamb dish (#5), the chicken dish (#3), and lentils (#9). These 3 dishes came on injera, which is a sour, fermented flatbread. It is basically a plate for the food, but you also use it to scoop up the meat/lentils to eat. My order also came with several more pieces of injera. The injera "plate" got soggy from the meat and lentils, so it was harder to use it to grab the fillings because it just kept falling apart. The chicken wasn't that great, so I wouldn't order that again, but the lamb dish and the lentils were sooo good. I had enough leftover for a second meal. I'm glad I gave Ethiopian food another chance! Next time, I would probably get the beef, lamb, and lentils.

We ended up getting platters off the menu instead, mostly ordering vegetarian. (But if you're hungry or want more food, the buffet is a good option.) The green beans and the collards are a solid combination because of the difference in texture and spice. Cabbage, fish and beef were also good. Everything came either on a bed of injeera (soft) or rice, or a combination. On weekdays they have lunch specials which are the best deals and very good and inevitably you'll have leftovers to enjoy later. Service has been better and more attentive in the past but it was busier than usual too. The actual decor and location is a bit dated but you probably wouldn't come here for the atmosphere. They also sell their coffee and other small things to go. I don't have ethiopian that often so this was a treat. Shared parking lot with other businesses.
