I was looking for a place to grab dinner driving between SF and LA and Agave popped up on the map. It's a cash only Mexican restaurant that was larger than I expected and very clean. Not sure if it's family run but definitely has those vibes. We stopped by Friday evening around 5:15 pm and there were only a couple other folks (mostly locals) there. The menu items looked pretty standard. My friend and I both got a burrito; he got the veggie burrito for $8.99 and I had the regular carnitas burrito for $9.99. We also got chips and salsa for an extra dollar. The chips came with 4 types of salsa, including a very spicy jabanero salsa. My friend really enjoyed them all. The burritos were also very solid. There was a generous amount of meat in my carnitas burrito, and the carnitas was super tasty and not dry at all. My friend loved his vegetarian burrito as well, as they loaded it up with grilled veggies. read more

Coming down from the grapevine? Make a delicious stop here! I went here with co-workers driving back down to Bakersfield and we all enjoyed. I would make this a future frequent stop. It had nice AC especially for hot Bakersfield summers. The waitresses were really nice as well. And there are delicious and cheap fruit carts outside. Me encantó muchísimo!! read more

I'm blown away. At this divey looking truck stop of a place comes the freshest homemade Mexican food I've had in like ever. The most delicious carnitas burrito with homemade beans and rice...like each piece of carnitas was individually blessed and watched over by the chef, along with great attention to the homemade and fried wrapper. The Huevos Rancheros also had a delightful homemade fresh taste and was perfectly executed. Your experience will be better if you know some Spanish, which we did. You order at the counter and they deliver with a smile. Ambiance: hole-in-the-wall but clean. Not expensive. We stopped by to eat here, coming from Sequoia. We ordered the green enchilada,the green sauce was spoiled the ch8xken was questi able and flys are every where. We saw the cook cut his finger and just squeeze the blood out. Wtf! Ordered simple fresh and they were not cooked all the way through like if the oil had just been turned on. Very Good Mexican food 3 minutes off the 5. I was wanted so chorizo and eggs. I stopped here they were great and they had excellent guacamole Salsa Amazing and spicy loved it. This place is great for your no frills Mexican food with good tasting inexpensive prices. Stopped in last night with the family just for some licuados and ended up getting dinner since it was $1 taco Wednesdays. Bought 5 asada tacos, 2 shrimp tacos, 1 big asada burrito and 2 large licuados for $27. Place is easy to find adjacent to the 5 fwy and not much else for eateries nearby. Probably mostly truckers stopping in for quick cheap good food. Lots of space and not cramped. Nice when your entire family enjoys a simple place that doesn't break the bank. read more

This place is a hole in the wall off the side of the road headed into the grapevine. Super affordable and decent sized. I god the Asada regular burrito. It was tasty. They don't give you a ton of chips but they were flavorful and a ton of different salsas. For two burritos, horchata and chips it came out to $22 which isn't bad. This place is a rare gem on the way to LA! The tacos included fresh, handmade corn tortillas, and a sampling of 4 different tasty house made salsas. The Al pastor was perfect! This place is seriously a hidden gem!! So worth the small detour. I travel to LA a lot and always stop at the Tejón outlets for food but I was sick of fast food and took a chance on this place! If you like tacos de asada you have to try this place on your drive home from north it's just off the I-5 perfect for a pit stop it's amazing!! We got the tacos grandes de asada and the quality of the meat is probably one of the best I've ever had and I'm Mexican so that's a lot of tacos to compare it to. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way out of town to grab a quick bite to eat. Our tacos were delicious and the service was quick and kind! Ordered 7 Mares soup. It had an awful freezer taste. Very little sea food meat and about a half pound of sliced carrots. Then ordered a bean and cheese burrito. They used boiled beans instead of refried beans. The burrito was so soupy it instantly fell apart. It also had a burnt bean flavor, but I did not see any burnt beans. Had 2 Mexican beers with it and they both tasted old and skunky like if they were sitting in the sun for couple years. Prices are slightly higher then normal but not outrageous. An older man used to be the cook here when the food was decent. Now its a younger guy that definitely has no business in the kitchen. Must be very inexperienced. The food was horrible. I do not recommend this place at all. For half the price, I would be satisfied eating a subway sandwich a block away. read more

Great service. Good food but no salt on anything! No salt in the beans, or rice, or carne asada or salsa nothing... Bland, so make sure to request salt if taking it to go. If you absolutely have to stop here then ok with the added salt it's doable, but if you can go to chipotle it's probably better. read more

Was on our way home from Fresno area when we stopped at the gas station next door for fuel, figured we grab a quick burrito and tacos for lunch and continue on our way. Place seemed cleaned and decent enough and we've had pretty good experiences with some hole in the wall Mexican food joint on our roadtrips. This place unfortunately disappointed us. We waited 1 hour after ordering to get our food to go! We ordered asada burrito, chicken quesadilla, fries and an horchata! It wasn't even busy when we ordered our food and had to wait that long. So much for a quick meal stop. The food wasn't great. Little filling in the burrito, quesadilla was oily, Fries tasted like it was cooked in week old oil, and horchata was full cup of ice and not drink. Not stopping here for food again :( read more
