    Greasy, fried, flavorless beef empanadas

No, no, no. So disappointing. Hotel restaurants are never a good bet! Poor quality bland food, poor service, and more expensive than it should be. Go next door to Paxtons or the pizza place or walk into town. Avoid this place for large groups as they don't appear to be able to manage groups, despite the restaurant not being busy and fully staffed. While the ambiance was fine and the restaurant appeared clean (hence the 2 stars), service was poor - slow with little communication from the server who rarely checked in, took forever to take our order, and then got the dishes wrong, and a manager who kept taking away our menus before we ordered (they had apparently lost their stack of menus so kept taking them from our party). Very poor customer service. It took 40 minutes to get drinks. Big red flag right off the bat. Food arrived in phases at the table and despite a variety of orders, no one in our party said they liked their food. Steak fajitas were not sizzling but appeared to have been sitting. Empanadas and the chips in the salsa trio and the fundido were greasy and flavorless. Quesadilla was soggy on the bottom and without salsa- very bland. The salads looked ok and were the safest bet. Such a bummer.

    Agave Restaurant at The Eldorado

I stayed at The Eldorado recently for a conference, and at one point had lunch at the attached Agave Restaurant. In a word? Nope. My server was attentive and professional, but the food? Nope. The burger was not great, and the french fries were frozen. Neither were worth the calories. Pros: convenience if you're staying at The Eldorado, live Spanish guitar playing in the restaurant, service Cons: food

Agave restaurant is located in Eldorado Hotel just a few blocks away from Old Town Santa Fe. It's in a good location and is a good complement to the hotel itself Overall, I found the food to be ok...and definitely pricey (expecting it especially for it being in center Santa Fe tourist area!). They were all good but a bit limited in terms of selection and taste (most were on a bland side). That said, portion was not small, so make sure to pace yourself or go with someone who will split different plates with you. The restaurant itself had a nice, quiet setting. However, I found it packed a bit of a lively ambiance. It was more on a quiet side and I wished there were more crowds to spice the environment up a bit (there were just a few tables in the dining room...and not anyone at a bar area at all). I supposed many people may not know to seek this place out. Perhaps, if you have time and are in the area and are looking for a low key, quiet place and don't mind some high price point, Agave is definitely a decent place. I wouldn't mind eating here again.

    Butter milk pancakes

The food is amazing. Would highly recommend the pancakes for breakfast. The service is great they come to check on you every couple minutes. The setting is also amazing with gentle lighting and great art. Completely cleaned the plate!!

Eggs on eggs benedict are normally poached ..... not hard cooked

We have stayed at this hotel for years but recent experience at Agave for breakfast left us disappointed. We were the ONLY diners at the restaurant on a Sunday during brunch. Service was extremely slow, waitress forgot to serve my juice until reminded, blue corn pancakes tasted reheated, walnuts on the pancakes were rancid. Eggs benedict were hard cooked and potatoes were cold. When I asked for a manager he was out and no one here could do anything about it and we were asked to wait for him to return, within 30 min meanwhile we waited with the bill. Skip this place as there are many great restaurants in Santa Fe.

Had dinner there last night! Excellent food & service! I ordered the pork chop; it was cooked perfectly! My husband had the ribeye; he loved it. We would recommend to anyone who loves incredible food!

This is their happy hour menu for food. The rest of the items on this menu are as good as the nachos you can't go wrong here.

I remiss of not taking a picture... I came here for happy hour, I ordered the nachos and added steak.. The food was outstanding, and the beer was equally as good... I am stuffed and very satisfied. If you're looking for a great happy hour place I would not pass this one up....

Timely stop for Happy Hour at Agave when a clap of thunder seemingly shut down power after all of our food and drinks were served. Tables around us not so lucky and were advised to move on. That meant no lecky to pull even a tab, so it was all on the house! Amazingly low HHr prices for the fancy El Dorado Hotel (4-7PM M-F), we would of paid, and not seen in cities with lots of competition. Great bar food sampled: --6 Red Hot wings, picked radish, cooling herbed yoghurt $4 --Charred Brussels, pepito pesto, Fresno Chile and chile yoghurt $5 --3 Kobe and cheddar sliders cooked to temp $6 --Premium wells and Casa Margarita blanco tequila, triple sec, agave made to order $5 Beautiful lounge area with large bar area with TVs and booths. By comparison it was $14 for a margarita at Bell Tower Bar at La Fonda offering a 5th floor view overlooking the Plaza with no Happy Hour.

    Shrimp Chorizo

This was an amazing establishment! We went for happy hour and the service was absolutely phenomenal! The manager was super kind and came over to welcome us and hear about our stay in the area! Super hospitable, lovely environment, and the food! ESPECIALLY the shrimp chorizo dish!!! Absoluteky amazing!

Yelp also thinks you're open, Agave. No hint of a 7pm close here.

When I arrived, I originally wanted to visit the restaurant, which was closed for the week due to a family emergency. So I presented to the open seating bar. Was ignored a long time. Got up to go to the bar and someone else stole my table. Took a long time to be acknowledged by the bar tender and finally made an order. Took quite a while to get it. Things got better when a bar seat opened up and I moved to the bar. But keep in mind, a different bar tender pretty much took over and kept my drinks flowing. That first bar tender could not hang, demonstrating poor time management skills and appeared to be moving slowly. The second bar tender, I think his name is Hector, really turned things around for me. I visited Secreto (another hotel based outfit, in the Hotel St. Francis) because they are supposed to be a "cocktail experience," boasting "garden to glass" cocktails. Dark wood and southwestern palate for decor. I had: Smoked sage margarita: flagship drink, smoked washed premium margarita (super herbal) Ghost ranch reverie: Tequila with peach, apricot shrub, lemon, seltzer, smoked rosemary (light, not too sweet, an "homage to the passionate artists of the southwest) Madonna of the Mesa: tequila blanco, pomegranate, mouth herbs, lemon, rose water (soft and balanced) Secret garden: basil infused gin gimlet with lime and chomilre infused honey. "Botanical crispiness meets honeyed serenity." I liked the basil, but the honey wasn't my thing. But a good cocktail. Again, drinks were good. On a Thursday afternoon, it was initially crowded and the initial service was terrible. But Hector saved the day.

The basement bar itself is exactly what a great dive should be; a shithole. Heavy hobo stab vibes upon entry, including Katya. Smell: multiple buttholes farting at once. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted super warmly and was educated on their menu as the host led me to my table (this place is sprawling and has inside and outside tables). My server greeted me immediately and was so helpful in her recommendations. She was truly interested in giving me the best experience as opposed to running the bill up for a bigger tip. Fresh out of the museum of New Mexico, I had learned adovada is a native dish, so I went with the carne adovada plate. Made with slow roasted lean pork, marinated in red Chile, garlic, and oregano. Served with cheese blue corn, red Chile, and onion. With a. side of pinto beans. It was spicy. Not HOT, but not "white people" spicy. It was warm and filling. Delicious. As far as margaritas, all I had were great. I had one of their premium 24 dollar margs, but it wasn't any better than the 12 dollar one recommended by the server. They also offer huevos rancheros, various enchiladas, tamales, burritos, tacos. For those wishing to go a little more americanized (but then why would you come here), they have a buffalo burger, grilled chicken sandwich, and regular burgers. Don't let the crowd deter you. It sounded like dinner service would have meant waiting for a table, so this worked out perfectly. The bar area struck a nice balance between lively and intimate. The tables had cute lanterns filled with coffee beans, and the abundance of plants throughout gave the space a cozy, nighttime greenhouse vibe. As instructed, we ordered at the bar and everything was brought to our table. Unable to decide between two desserts, we ordered both: the Hot Fudge Sundae and the Cheesecake. To pair with dessert, we went with the Spiked Coffee and a glass of Santa Fe Spirits Apple Brandy. We'll go from bad to good: neither of us cared for the cheesecake. The sour cream vanilla topping overpowered both the cheesecake itself and the graham cracker crust. My wife, however, really enjoyed the spiked coffee, and I thoroughly enjoyed the apple brandy. It was incredibly smooth, almost like drinking apple pie. The surprise winner of the night was the hot fudge sundae, and what made it exceptional was the fudge sauce. It had this rich balance of dark, slightly bitter chocolate with just enough sweetness to keep it smooth and indulgent. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back to try an actual meal sometime.
