We enjoyed happy hour at the Agave lounge. We walked in five minutes before happy hour was over and we're still able to enjoy a few drinks. The staff were very kind and knowledgeable. My wife and I went to the Agave Lounge as part of the Santa Fe Margarita Trail. The service was VERY slow and the bartender was out sick so some random was making the drinks. The margarita we ordered was not as described in the Margarita Trail website and the waitress was unaware of the $1 off promo for the Trail so we didn't get it, even though we showed it to her! Agave is a really great option if you're staying or near El Dorado. I had the breakfast burrito when I was there during Lent. They were able to prepare it meatless for me and I couldn't have been more pleased. It had tons of flavor and spice and I thought the price was reasonable for what I got, even without the chorizo. And the portion size could've fed two people. The interior of the restaurant is super inviting and modern. Erika, my server, couldn't have been more pleasant, helpful, and attentive. The restaurant is an absolute must if you're staying at El Dorado. It is quality food at a decent price and is incredibly convenient. But even if you're not, it's worth a visit. read more

No, no, no. So disappointing. Hotel restaurants are never a good bet! Poor quality bland food, poor service, and more expensive than it should be. Go next door to Paxtons or the pizza place or walk into town. Avoid this place for large groups as they don't appear to be able to manage groups, despite the restaurant not being busy and fully staffed. While the ambiance was fine and the restaurant appeared clean (hence the 2 stars), service was poor - slow with little communication from the server who rarely checked in, took forever to take our order, and then got the dishes wrong, and a manager who kept taking away our menus before we ordered (they had apparently lost their stack of menus so kept taking them from our party). Very poor customer service. It took 40 minutes to get drinks. Big red flag right off the bat. Food arrived in phases at the table and despite a variety of orders, no one in our party said they liked their food. Steak fajitas were not sizzling but appeared to have been sitting. Empanadas and the chips in the salsa trio and the fundido were greasy and flavorless. Quesadilla was soggy on the bottom and without salsa- very bland. The salads looked ok and were the safest bet. It's in a good location and is a good complement to the hotel itself Overall, I found the food to be ok...and definitely pricey (expecting it especially for it being in center Santa Fe tourist area!). They were all good but a bit limited in terms of selection and taste (most were on a bland side). That said, portion was not small, so make sure to pace yourself or go with someone who will split different plates with you. The restaurant itself had a nice, quiet setting. However, I found it packed a bit of a lively ambiance. It was more on a quiet side and I wished there were more crowds to spice the environment up a bit (there were just a few tables in the dining room...and not anyone at a bar area at all). I supposed many people may not know to seek this place out. Perhaps, if you have time and are in the area and are looking for a low key, quiet place and don't mind some high price point, Agave is definitely a decent place. A friend was in from Dallas a couple of days ago and we met a friend for dinner and drinks in Santa Fe. She recommended this place and we agreed. Very disappointed. It was a Saturday night. The place has a happy hour (I thought this was unusual for a Saturday ...) The Bills game was playing so we agreed. The place was dead at 6.00 p.m. The service was mediocre. Very hotel vibe. Into our first drink, the manager began to quiz us about where we had been before Agave (we stopped at Nuckels), the number of drinks we had before Agave (one), and how we intended to return to ABQ (train). Eggs benedict were hard cooked and potatoes were cold. When I asked for a manager he was out and no one here could do anything about it and we were asked to wait for him to return, within 30 min meanwhile we waited with the bill. I love to write 5 star reviews, because I'm lucky enough to live in a city where both the food and the service is usually stellar. However, having just left Agave, I have to give consumers a tip. RUN AWAY! Go anywhere else. I live in Santa Fe. I've been to Agave for at least what feels like a hundred times. Possibly more. In the past couple of years the service has fallen off, and it's now abysmal. This evening is a case in point. We just wanted to run downtown and have a snack and a cocktail. First, it took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table. When he did, he didn't know what a gimlet was. So there was stalling and talking to the bartender (who never ever offered anything. When we asked her if we needed to order at the bar, she said, "No a server will be with you immediately" which meant in 10 or 15 minutes) and then after ANOTHER 10 minutes, a long-time employee came over and asked exactly what we ordered. This was after I spelled the word "gimlet" for our prior server. And then the gimlet took forever to make. Finally I see the surly bartender put it up and it sits. And sits. Our server has obviously left the building. I finally walk up and say, "we have been waiting a long time for our drink. Mind if I take these?" She acted perplexed and said, "well, okay." Mind you, this bartender had TWO people at the bar. She could have easily walked our drinks to us across the ten feet between the bar and our table. The food was good. We were surprised that our server who had such a hard time getting a gimlet ordered actually turned in our order. If you're patient enough to wait on the food and drink, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the flatbread and the potatas brava. We spend a lot of time downtown. We spend a lot of money downtown. I don't know when or if we will ever go back to a Heritage property (don't get me started on Secreto at the St. Francis Hotel). You guys need to spend some serious cash on good management and good training. read more

Timely stop for Happy Hour at Agave when a clap of thunder seemingly shut down power after all of our food and drinks were served. Tables around us not so lucky and were advised to move on. That meant no lecky to pull even a tab, so it was all on the house! Amazingly low HHr prices for the fancy El Dorado Hotel (4-7PM M-F), we would of paid, and not seen in cities with lots of competition. Great bar food sampled: --6 Red Hot wings, picked radish, cooling herbed yoghurt $4 --Charred Brussels, pepito pesto, Fresno Chile and chile yoghurt $5 --3 Kobe and cheddar sliders cooked to temp $6 --Premium wells and Casa Margarita blanco tequila, triple sec, agave made to order $5 Beautiful lounge area with large bar area with TVs and booths. By comparison it was $14 for a margarita at Bell Tower Bar at La Fonda offering a 5th floor view overlooking the Plaza with no Happy Hour. read more

Although the food was acceptable, barely, the service was abysmal. It's the first time in 30 years I've sent a plate back. Naturally, the "chef" turned my medium rare steak (that was delivered room temperature) into a well-done piece of shoe leather. Excellent fresh breakfast choices. The menu is short yet sweet. Covers all the basics you need. Some of the freshest eggs. I was even able to sub out my meat for avocado. Some of the freshest jam ever ever for my toast i devoured every last bite! I feel like service could need a little help here it was super slow at times and we just found ourselves waiting on our waiter for a good 10 min or so just to get our tab. The decor inside is really get and modern. Manager was walking around making everything was great. I cannot recommend this business because the web site accepted breakfast reservations and the restaurant is not actually open until lunch. We had a backup plan so we were okay, but we had made the reservation so we could make our IFAM ticket time, and if everyone else had been on a wait we would have been in real trouble!! Luckily it was early enough that we could get in before the crowd at Tia Sophia's, which is up the street and amazing. But having reservations open when your restaurant is not serving is a real issue. read more

We were visiting Santa Fe from SF and made dinner reservations here for NYE 2020: $85pp for a prix fixe 3-course meal. After the four of us were seated, 3 of us ended up ordering things off the general dinner menu, as entrees ran about $30 on average, and appetizers and desserts $10 each which made the prix fixe pricing hard to justify. The prix fixe options even shared some similarities with the usual dinner menu, making it even more dubious. For appetizers, we tried the ceviche and the butternut squash soup. Neither of them were superb to me, the ceviche a little bland, and the soup a little too sweet. The entrees we ordered, in order of quality & taste from best to worst: 1) duck 2) salmon 3) ribs 4) veggie enchilada My salmon was a little on the oily side, but a good quality cut, and served on a nice bed of lentils. My mother had the ribs and there was so many sesame seeds used in the dish that at first I thought it was rice. Otherwise, my mother said it tasted very good. The enchilada was an abomination though. It was reminiscent of a lasagna, but using tortillas instead of pasta, and yet with no pasta sauce. It was dry, bland, and by far the worst dish I'd eaten in our 5 days visiting New Mexico. It is my understanding that one is paying for the atmosphere when dining here, but I certainly hope there are higher quality fine dining institutions for the sake of the residents of Santa Fe. The prices here do not accurately predict the tastes your tongue will receive, and I felt that I had much better (and cheaper) Mexican food in the surrounding establishments, though not in as 'fancy' digs. read more

I was a guest of the El Dorado on 10-3-22. I called down for room service at 7pm and was hung up on. Called back. Got vm. No problem. Called again and the rude bartender said they were closed (everything in the hotel room and on the outgoing vm message said it closed at 10. I went downstairs and was able to get a drink to take upstairs even though the bartender said "we're closed". What kind of hotel bar/restaurant closes at 7pm on a Monday? Other patrons in the bar also commented on how strange it was. The Hilton Garden Inn bar has a more sensible policy than to just close its doors willy nilly. I'm guessing there wasn't a bomb threat as the place was not evacuated. Truly awful customer service. read more

I came here with my wife for a glass of wine at around 7PM. We sat at the bar and were handed menus when we sat down. There were only a handful of tables sitting in the restaurant area and a handful of people sitting around the bar. 25 minutes later, and no interaction with any wait staff, we were asked if we could be helped. I politely declined and made the waitress aware that we had been waiting for 25 minutes to order a glass of wine but would be leaving without having a drink. I will not return to this restaurant or stay at this hotel based on my 25 minute experience here. One star for ambiance only. The food is unbelievably bad and overpriced. Ordered blue corn enchiladas with red chile salsa. The plates that arrived had half rolled blue corn tortillas, dried at the edges from overheating in microwave. Could not taste red chiles in the salsa which the plate had barely any if it. So called enchiladas were drenched in too much cheese and oil. Pricing is way too high, I suppose due the fame of the hotel but that's just it: all hype but no substance Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else to eat. We only had chips and salsa, then beer and sangria. The salsas were amazing actually - we were totally famished and again, Vegan/Vegetarian so limited at best. They really hit the spot! Cocktail was a bit sweeter than I'd have liked in a while sangria, but was good. Beer was poured well and not the dregs of a keg, also hit the spot. TV's allowed us to catch up on the Pirates playing some ball, the bartender was wonderful and had a great personality regardless of some of the douchy customers that were bellied up to the bar. This was a surprising experience because our front desk at the Drury highly recommended this place. First of all, Sunday Feb 17 2019, 8pm, the place was empty. We were sat quickly and offered menus equally quickly. We ordered two fancy margueritas (see bill), a beet salad and guacamole to share. And then it went downhill. Twenty minutes later neither margueritas or the food had arrived. Our waiter could be seen walking around. The bar was empty. Other employees were walking around slowly. We called the manager over. Seemed the waiter had forgotten to put our orders in. Two margueritas were rushed over, but neither was particularly as expected (both were weak, we had asked for a cointreau substitute on one as opposed to grand marnier, and it contained neither... very disappointing at $15 apiece). The food was rushed over. The manager said he would give us a discount and apologized... the waiter came over and apologized... At this stage, please look at the attached bill. We couldn't believe that after all that, they insulted us again by giving us $4 off the entire bill... clearly that is how much they value good service when they can't be bothered to get it right. I can't imagine in a place this incompetent that Eldorado Hotel leadership reviews posts like this one, but if they do, I strongly suggest if you are going to take tourists' hard earned money, you treat them properly, especially in a town dependent on tourism dollars. Dinner at Agave was a pleasure! (I don't understand the poor reviews unless a new chef has been brought in.) it was a snowy night and our seats by the wood fire was welcome. The restaurant was open, inviting, comfortable and QUIET! (I wear hearing aids, so the quiet was VERY welcome; I didn't have to strain to hear our table conversation.) The recommended cucumber serrano margarita was very good, as were the sweet chili-garlic shrimp with chorizo and the prosciutto asparagus. Our table ordered mains of green chili hamburger (from the bar-just ask), the roasted Chilean sea bass and the very tender kurobuta pork chop. We shared bites. Yum! Everything was delicious, flavorful, perfectly seasoned. Our server Ron was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and was attentive. Welcome was the free valet parking for hotel and restaurant guests, and-sorry to mention this-but the bathroom had seat covers; hurrah. (Coming from California where the law says they must be provided, it's a rare pleasure to find them in New Mexico.) Altogether, a wonderful time, a wonderful meal, and we will return. Ventured out to Santa Fe for a day trip and walked by. Great proximity to Eldorado (which I need to stay in one day) also! A glass of wine sounded good along with getting out of the sun for a few minutes. My +1 and I sat down right away and took it all in: Nice setup, great music, fun, neo-adobe finishes. It's Santa Fe's version of "swanky" and I'm okay with that! :-) I ordered one of the French wines, just a glass. Nice service, quick turnaround, chill day. I wish I remember the name of our server, but I don't...She was awesome! Many of you have commented about the service, and I have to say I genuinely had a nice experience. We ordered the angus beef burgers and they both arrived with burnt buns. We were flexible enough to ask a passing Waiter to bring us fresh buns, saying we would gladly lift the patty off our burnt bottom buns to reconstruct the meal. The Waiter returned with two top buns. I explained to the waiter that both top and bottom buns were burnt and needed replacing. He nodded solemnly and disappeared. About 5 minutes later, the Waiter returned with two bottoms, giving the patties sufficient time to turn stone cold. Later, I asked our Waitress to comp the meal and she deducted $2 as compensation for the bun fiasco. What a joke. read more
