    Spicy fish and plantain.
    Norah J.

Aggie's restaurant is my favorite place to eat good African fish, spicy,, juicy, and very flavorful. I have never ordered anything else here, so I can't tell you about them. I have been coming here since she open up a shop. I was ordering from her when she was still in her apartment just down the street. So I'm a guru with her fish. Today fish was burned on one side but still taste gd, I enjoyed the plantain with the spicy sauce. Since she moved to a shop, fish plate became smaller and smaller, restaurant does need more lighting during the day. I understand that at night time, it does beam and looks like a club. I have never been here at night, so can't say. When I walk in today, it was too quiet and I keep wondering if they're still in business. I wonder why there was no music playing and the lady taking the order was on the phone in a dark. I thought of going to boiling crab but I needed a different appetite this evening. But I did order some and it never disappointed. If.i can recommend something, that wld be! To have some light or more light during the day, rearranged the whole restaurant to look more appealing to customer. Pls play some music some happy customers. Overall, nice African food joint with delicious food. Come out and try some menu mostly their fish and plantain or rice. Will update soon. Xoxo.

Don't bother to call ahead, they do not pick up phone calls. We called several times, then walked in to the phone ringing while the lady was right beside the phone. They ran out of spinach and okra...just negudu! Two stars for the fast service!

This is the best I found in my food. Fish head

So I have to post this and I hope the owner who has changed her attitude some smiles more and is a bit courteous lately. I come here maybe once or twice a month and yesterday 12/07/16 I got some food here and honestly I am terrified by what I found in my food. I was eating the head of the fish when I felt something scratching my tongue. Mind you, I had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled three weeks ago and I thank God I never tried to swallow or chew with my side teeth. I found a huge piece of stainless steel about an inch and a half long. I am so thankful it was me eating this particular fish. So I will share my picture and just FYI I will never go back there. Anybody reading this please try this other place in Irving. Disclaimer the fish is atomic hot and I am kidding. The service is a little bit better I live in Forney and I am have been there three times I have eaten their food. https://goo.gl/search/Lola's+Restaurant+%26+Lounge+3435+N+Belt+Line+Rd&hl=en Lola's Restaurant & Lounge 3435 N Belt Line Rd (972) 594-5000

Great Restaurant/takeout for delicious food. I make sure at least once a month to stop by to get the fish and plantains.

The vibe was nice. You must make a reservation! This is what I enjoyed: Side of Lamb chops: 10/10 tender, meaty, nice smoky and sweet flavor, well seasoned. Side of Mac and cheese: 6/10 a bit dry, needs a bit more seasoning, if both of these things were not an issue it would be perfect. Oxtails and jollof rice: 10/10 oxtails were full of flavor and enjoyable. They could have been a bit more tender. Overall the flavor carried it to a perfect 10. The rice is seasoned and a bit smokey and cooked to the perfect doneness. Table bread: 9/10 puff puff style bread. They were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Brought out first and provided with every meal. It had a sweet seasoning mix on it. The mix to me was more for after dinner instead of right before the meal. Dusse mimosa: 10/10 nice and stout. I prefer Dusse over Hennessy which is what was on the menu. Jerk chicken: 10/10 flavorful wings. Jerk seasoning was there and not too spicy. Cooked just right and not dry. Collard greens: 6/10 savory flavor. I am a collard greens specialist and I prefer a sweet and hot profile. Although these are just savory they were cooked to the correct tenderness. Candied yams: 10/10 get blend of cinnamon and sweet flavor. Cooked perfectly.

The collard greens were awful, and the rice tasted like boxed or store-bought rice. The salmon was actually good, but the portion was ridiculously small for the price. The atmosphere was just as disappointing. At 2 PM, the music was so loud it felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant. When the band went on break, the music and videos playing felt more appropriate for a strip club. Then the band came back praising God. The whole vibe was confusing, to say the least. Small portions, big prices, mediocre food, and a confused atmosphere. Fusion Vibes just wasn't for us. We will not be returning.

I forgot so about the card until someone asked me if I used food delivery companies. I loved them in the past but had some odd experiences. Nevertheless since I was in TX and not familiar with any of the local restaurants I decided to pick food the person I was with had never tried. After researching several options I landed on this place. I ended up ordering several items so I could get the person to try a variation and so I could get a good idea of their approach and how they prepare specific dishes. Especially in the DFW area. I'm American but have worked in parts of Africa in the 90s and lived in NY and the DC areas. I'm from CA and it took much longer for West African food products to make it west. I ordered over $200 worth of options. The pricing made me change my mind on 3 different occasions on separate days over 2 weeks. I then justified by thinking, that if the portions are fair I food freeze items and/or eat leftovers a few times with the spices marinating and getting better. Overall, I was very pleased. I've attached a photo of my receipt and food. I wish they had placed more of the spicy pepper paste being that in every note, I wrote spicy or extra spicy and there wasn't an option for condiments. Some of the pieces of meet in the dishes were sparse or just the fat. The pieces of goat in the curry, egusi, and okra could have been cooked longer but the flavor of all three dishes was delicious. The person who had the food for the first time enjoyed the spices but their expressions when asking questions related to each item, were hard to decipher. They don't have a mature palid and stick to what they like (bad food) for over 50 yrs. When I brought habaneros to cook with, they had no clue what they were, even though their mexican salsas said habanero was in it but the peppers on the bottles were not habaneros. The added rice with the dishes was very good even though I bought the jollof rice as well. Having both was smart. Again. I wish I had more African pepper paste The person I was with LOVED THE PLANTAINS.. T wasn't surprised. They were ripend and cooked to perfection. I had to hide them so when more food was being tasted the focus would be on the others. I was right about having leftovers and nothing went to waste.I even served the rice with fish dishes I prepared later in the week. Yes, I would choose this restaurant again!!! However, I think I'm going to drive there and order to see if the portions are the same and if I'm saving any money. Oh, I forgot to mention that the restaurant did and excellent job of packaging the food abs placed all bags and containers in a box. There was only one container that had saran wrap that leaked due to it being squashed and cracked. The way it was wrapped.. saved the dish!!!

I for sure got that. Egusi was amazing. It came out steaming hot. It was painful waiting a few minutes for the food to cool down because I wanted to eat it right away. But it's not good to complain about food being too hot. There was ample seating. The server was attentive and courteous. When I walked in there was a black cowboy riding a Rodeo on TV. So assume this may be a great place to watch sports and eat. Make sure to order an Indian Malta with your food. There was a wide variety of food selections on the menu. So it's a good idea to reviews the menu prior to coming. See images attached. I will be back for the awesome food.

We also got the jollof rice and it was amazing. Also plantains were cooked perfectly caramelized deliciously. Everything was about 100 bucks, for 3 entrees and one meat pie. (kinda expensive, if you ask me). for myself, i had the fufu and egusi dish, and it was my first time ever trying Nigerian food. I really wanted to try it since i saw multiple videos online with people trying it and it look so interesting and delicious. honestly, it was quite an experience. You take a small piece of the fufu and shape it into a ball and dip it into the egusi soup. trust me, your hands will get very dirty after eating it. The reason i'm giving this place a 3 stars is that the portions were on the smaller side and the meat that came in the egusi soup was really tough to chew through. Flavor was good, but it was a bit on the spicy side...Also, the meat pie was kinda dry and lacking flavor. i still want to find a legit restaurant that serves fufu and egusi, but i don't know if i'll come back. Only reason i picked this place is that its the closest one to my office in coppell.
