Hubby and I visited Aguacates on a Thursday evening while in Buffalo. We were seated quickly and were immediately impressed by the decor. So colorful. The food... I'm always skeptical being so far from Texas so it takes a lot to impress me. But this was impressive. The test is always the Rice, Beans, and Tortillas. All three passed the test. The Rice was flavorful, the Beans tasted like Beans, and the Corn Tortillas tasted like homemade. Hubby and I had the Fajitas and shared a single order. This was plenty for the two of us. I highly recommend the Carnitas. Delicious. We also had the Queso Fundido. This was also great. The bit of spiciness made a difference. Finally made it to the OG location. I met up with a friend for dinner and was happy to finally make it here. Smaller city location compared to Blasdell but with the same great menu. Overall the food was good and service was great. I had the carnitas and a Paloma. Juicy and flavorful pork and the same delicious beans. I took off a star because it could have been a little cleaner inside. And it's hard to not compare to the other location. The food was good but now quite as good as their other spot. read more

I don't understand why this place isn't rated higher, we had an excellent dinner here and were both surprised by the freshness and quality. We ordered pretty simple things and they were done very well. The salsa they bring to the table when you sit down was seriously so good. Very fresh, very flavorful, and reminds me of the salsas in Southern California I grew up eating. We ordered the larger size of the guacamole and it was HUGE, packed full of fresh avocado, and very reasonably priced. The meat in the street tacos was all excellent, we had a sampling of 6 different options and loved each one. The service was great. People were ordering all kinds of fancy drinks and margaritas from the extensive drink menu. The table next to us was celebrating a birthday and they went all out with flashing lights and a sparkler and everyone singing. This is such a solid option and they stay open a bit later than most other restaurants which was a plus for us. I'll be thinking of that salsa until I return! read more

Amazing service, amazing food and great vibes! We came here around 5:00 on a Tuesday for taco Tuesday and were seated right away. The menu has soooo many delicious options it was so hard to choose I got the arroz con pollo with jalapeños added and my partner got the Norteño dish. Both looked and smelled delicious. So I pondered a few places, and Aguacates came to mind. I'm no stranger to this place, I can easily say it is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants due to the portion size,price, and above all ....the taste!! Also, the decor is bright and festive, though it isn't A huge restaurant it has a big personality!! The first and my favorite dish at Aguacates is molcajete!! It's 4 meats with veggies and cheese served with salad, rice, and beans in a sizzling clay bowl. I've had this dish at other restaurants, and I feel they do it best ! I've recommended this dish to many other people, and they agree!! However, during my last visit, I was craving a quesadilla. The waiter, who was absolutely awesome, recommended I get the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. I really love this dish, full of flavor, stuffed, and most importantly, cheesy !! I'll definitely order this again!! So please check this place out and don't forget to grab a margarita as well!! They have a great collection of tequilas!! We headed downtown initially looking for a brunch spot and found a lot of places were closed on Sundays. Thankfully, this spot was open. We were seated right away, the server, and the bartender were very nice. We ordered a standard margarita and a spicy margarita. Both were very delicious and very large. For lunch we did a chimichanga with rice and beans and the steak fajitas, both of which were good. Chips and salsa were great. I loved that the salsa was not chunky and had good flavor. I have eaten tortilla soup plenty of times to know all the ingredients needlessly to say it was very tasteful, but some ingredients I didn't eat. I was very surprised to see the ratings for this place! This was honestly the best pollo con crema I have ever had. Sometimes with Mexican restaurants it will just be quest and chicken. But this was so flavorful with a bunch of other stuff added. The drinks were good too, definitely a little pricey. Our server was the best ever! We came on the day of the eclipse, so it was super busy. However, she was the sweetest person, and everyone at the table agreed. Finally made it over here for a dinner with some friends and what a great spot to snag some Mexican food right on the Elmwood strip. It's a smaller sized restaurant so seating is relatively limited. We had a table of 4 on a Friday night around 730 and the wait was 25 minutes which was not bad at all. They take your number down to call you when the table is ready so no need to stick around if the wait is excessive. Staff was friendly and responsive! Chips and salsa when we sat down and the waiter even gave us refills on both. Food came out nice and quick and was delicious. Ordered the jumbo burrito which was the perfect amount of food. For drinks they do have a lot of specials. Went with the shot of tequila and Modelo pony for $7. Overall I would say very quality Mexican food for slightly above average pricing. Unfortunately, the rest of the place falls short, if I'm comparing it to other places in the area I enjoy in the Mexican food category. I ordered the tacos de carne asada. It came with rice and beans. The beef was a little tough to chew and not all that tender. It was also too over done, although the server didn't ask me how I wanted my meat prepared. The taco was pretty plain and only came with the meat inside, and a small side of hot sauce and pico de gallo to add to the taco. The rice and beans were typical. Nice little place on Elmwood, about 250ft (yes feet lol), from SATO Ramen... The staff is very friendly. They have some decent beers on tap, and a full bar (if you're into that). Small location, limited seating, which is pretty much par for the course anywhere on Elmwood. So I've been here twice. Honestly, I should've cane more during my brief time living in buffalo. Not much I can say, other than I have come here with two young women from the Dominican Republic (I know they aren't Mexican but hear me out), and neither complained, and one has even been back since with her boyfriend. I also (other end of the spectrum), have been here with a young man from New Jersey. He also enjoyed it. Me? A world traveling fat ass that's spent majority of his adult life in El Paso Texas .... two trips for me = a total of 14 Tacos. I'm not making that up. Back home in El Paso, would this get a 4-Star? Ehhhh... I think I would give it a 3, but I'm sure that the overall rating would be hovering around the 3.5 mark. And too be honest, a 3.5 total out of 5 in a place like El Paso, is enough for me to give it a 4 here. Yea I bumped the star up one due to geography... so there's two things I'd like you to take away from that: 1. Regardless of where we are, it is not worthy of a 5-Star (which isn't an insult at all) 2. In my opinion, I have NOT found a better place for Tacos in WNY. And, the staff is super cool, so sitting at the bar eating Tacos and watching SportsCenter, chit chatting with the girls, is a pretty decent time. read more

Pre Bills game birthday dinner with my favorites. Complimentary chips and salsa, fresh, very good! Cheese with chorizo ordered and also pretty good! Filled up on chips and premium on the rocks margaritas. Dinner was pork Verde, maybe? It sounded great came with rice, beans, tortillas and guacamole salad. So very good, even if I had to take most of it home. Saving room for more birthday libations and MNF, lol. I came here last night for dinner. For a Tuesday night, this place was jumping. We had to wait a few minutes to get in but not very long. We were seated in the back in a comfortable booth. Our waitress was was nice and super attentive. I ordered a peach margarita and my friend had a mango daiquiri. We didn't realize that the daiquiri had a sugared rim so on sight we thought My friend was given my drink. She slit it over and I drank it. Unfortunately it was her drink. My drink hadn't yet arrived and I felt bad because they were finishing making it, so I just said that I would take my original drink as well. So here I am looking like a full alcoholic turning up on a Tuesday but I didn't mind. The drinks were both amazing and really refreshing on a hot day. For dinner I had a new menu item. Butter salmon that came with rice and salad. I added a side of shrimp. My friend had a steak with shrimp salad and rice. Our dinner was pretty good. The salads did not come with dressing. I thought it was strange but we still picked at them. The rice was amazing. My salmon was cooked well but dry as hell. There was no butter or sauce of any kind. They do give you chips and salsato start so I improvised and poured some salsa on my salmon and shrimp. It was pretty damn good. My friend said her steak wasn't cooked to order so she boxed it up for her dogs. Overall I would go again. I liked the atmosphere, I was happy to be seated so quickly, the drinks were wonderful and our waitress was great. There was only two tables with two of us at each table and one guy at the bar. The server spent the majority of her time talking to the bartender and the gentleman at the bar. Second time coming here and it was amazing just like the first time! Aguacates is such a cute Mexican restaurant including the decor. There is parking on the side of the building as well. I truly enjoy a good margarita, and let me tell you! These ones were perfect! The perfect amount of tartness plus the little bit of salt made this margarita one that I will come back to get. They also give complimentary chips and salsa which is always a great part. They make sure that you have way more salsa than needed for the chips which I greatly admire. My friend and I also ordered the chipotle chicken. It is basically like very very thin chicken tenders with chipotle sauce on the side. These were just a little too thin and greasy for myself liking but were definitely delicious! The place itself is very quaint and cute! You walk in and it definitely is a true Mexican place. There are colored tiles on the walls, tequila lining the bar and lots of mexican music playing. It is very small so if you want to make sure you get a spot I would make reservations. I was shocked because it was Taco Tuesday. I had a craving for fish tacos and they were not on the menu. I opted for the shrimp and octopus plate. I was happy with it. The party who requested nachos was unhappy with how soggy they were. The party who ordered carnitas replaced by chicken was happy with the plate. The food was good, the wait time was excruciating. I've only ordered food from here thru delivery apps like Door dash & Uber eats and because it's a bit pricey (and prices are inflated on those apps) I'll pick it up since it's walkable from Richmond Ave. I love the soft steak tacos! And thanks chips and salsa are addicting! Picking up my orders is a challenge as the latest trend by this younger generation of restaurant workers is to ignore you until you stop one of them or I'll be asked what I want and I'll say I'm picking up an order, and the young lady will tell me to hold on and never come back. It could just be me because it happens everywhere I go. But once I'm out of there and home the food makes it worth the aggravation. Which raises the question (in Carrie Bradshaw voice and typing on her 1999 laptop) Does the quality of the food a restaurant sells enough to allow for a lack of simple appreciation from the staff for even spending money there? Went to this spot before a movie with my SO. It is a small restaurant, wait wasn't too bad, but the tables are oddly close together. can't really hold more than a table of 4. We felt like we were part of a larger party with how close we were to other patrons. The kitchen got both of our orders wrong, and the quality was subpar.
