Came to Ah Ma's Kitchen and enjoyed it! We ordered several dishes to share and all of them were pretty good! We started off with the XXXL boba because why not? Turns out, the boba is actually grass jelly which is nice because that's a little more refreshing and generally easier to chew. It also pairs well with the robust HK milk tea. Having said that, if you were looking for a boba experience, it will leave you pining for that chewiness. Next came the salted egg green beans, kiln chicken, and black pepper beef macaroni. Honestly, all of these are recommended. The beans were crisp but very bold with that salted egg yolk flavor. The kiln chicken is essentially XL foil wrapped chicken from dim sum but I can appreciate the table side presentation to really highlight how tender the chicken is. I did find the "special sauce" or jus to be a tad salty though. As for the macaroni, I applaud their use of a gluten free pasta. The springiness of the noodles were really good and ironically I had a second version of this later in the evening (despite never seeing it ever before?) with regular semolina pasta and Ah Ma's was world's better. We also added the spicy wontons which came sitting in this mala soy sauce that was really good! Would have as a dip for everything! As for the pineapple bun sandwich, it was just okay. I personally could have used more mayo to give it some unctuousness. It was pretty dry sandwich in my opinion. The lettuce and tomato also didn't pair well with the pineapple bun and detracted from the experience too in my opinion... All in all, I would come back if I'm in the area.

Everything was delicious! We were especially surprised by the stir fried black pepper macaroni, it was savory, and had that wok flavor. We came for the xxxl boba and juicy chicken. The boba is grass jelly, while fun we found the jelly to be a bit bland. The milk tea itself wasn't as strong as we would have liked but still a solid drink! The chicken was juicy and the staff even removes the bones for you at the table! Note that they only serve half chickens if you want to reserve a whole chicken be sure to call ahead! The fried rice and porkchop pineapple sandwich were unexpected hits. The fried rice comes with lettuce for that crunch!

For Mother's Day ( Sunday ) lunch with 11:30 am reservation, fortunately we ( party of 9 ) were able to have reservation and got seated right away. When the time we arrived, there is a crowd for waiting list. Inside setup just like its name, very home / grandparens' house, neat and clean. The chicken is juicy and flavorful, a bit too salty for me. The rest dishes are flavorful as well, but a bit too salty for me, glad the service is good enough to keep filling water for me, with water, I can enjoy the food. The clay pots we ordered had very similar flavors/tastes, even ingredients. The XXL boba milk tea was fan to have, taste wise more like honkong milk tea. If your appetite tuned for hongkong cuisine, then you will surely enjoy it. The restaurant is relatively small, limited seatings, also you need to be lucky with on the street parking ( that is typical SF). The food portion is on the small to medium side, the surprising Mother's Day small gifts made the overall experience bumped one star, food quality and value 3stars, extra one star for the service.

Not bad, not outstanding. Was excited to try the Bo Lo bao fried chicken sandwich and it didn't blow my mind. The chicken fillet was a nice juicy cut though and the cross-section is what you want to see. The salted egg yolk wings didn't have enough salted egg flavor, but the dried scallop and egg fried rice was the best thing we ordered there.

Another example of how social media misleads you. My friends and I saw a lot of social media post about this place and decided to give them a try. Pack your patience when you come because the wait was over an hour . When we finally got seated the server told us the kitchen is closing sopk and we had to order in the next 10 mins. So my friends and I had to scramble to order. Here's what we ordered and the ratings 5/5 - klin chicken -half. - the chicken came out piping hot and it was the most juicy and tender kitchen I've ever had . This reminded me of the foil wrapped chicken that I used to get as a kid at dim sum restaurants. 3/5 - stirred fried black bean macaroni - this one was ok. I felt the macaroni wa overcooked. 3/5- salt and pepper chicken wings- this was good but it really didn't taste like salt and pepper. 4/5 curry fish balls - reminded me of the ones in Hong Kong where you can get it on the streets 3/5 Chicken fried rice - a little bland 4/5 shrimp wontons with noodles - pretty good , but it wasn't enough for four people to share. It would be perfect for two people to share . 2/5-xl boba tea - where's the tea ? It was pretty watered down and the grass jelly was just ok. I'm glad we got to try this once. However , I think next time I'll just see if I can get the chicken togo.

Social media really blew this place up, I see a long line on the weekends, but during the weekday for dinner, there's no line! The restaurant is pretty small so that also explains the line. Everything on the menu looked delicious and will definitely be back to try other items like the wonton noodle soup! Pork and egg Pineapple bun sandwich - the bun was a lil too toasted and made it hard to eat, it was hard and too crunchy. If it was fresh it would've been good. The egg was so soft and the pork was juicy and thick. I think it could've been a favorite if the bun was fresh, but maybe it's because we got it for dinner and it was the end of the night black pepper beef macaroni - al dente macaroni with yummy black pepper flavor, with tender beef and peppers in it, loved it! half kiln chicken - was piping hot and so delicious! it was so juicy and tender, and the servers tear the chicken apart for you. Definitely scoop the sauce/juices at the bottom, it almost tasted like ginger scallion sauce on the chicken but better garlic green beans - classic and standard, tasted great! I think they also have salted egg york green beans which is interesting XXXL boba milk tea - SO GOOD but I couldn't sleep after. I love that it wasn't too sweet and the "boba" is actually grass jelly, which I prefer over boba right now. If the giant bobas were actually bobas, I think that would be overwhelming and not good

We came here on a Wednesday night around 530pm. It was empty when we first got there but by 6 pm l the restaurant was filled up. We tried many things as we had a larger group. I enjoyed the kiln chicken, the Bo law Bao chicken sandwich and the clay pot! The other dishes were also really good. The spicy wonton wasn't spicy and The beans were a little too salty for me. For the kiln chicken if you want a whole chicken have to order a day in advance Overall good, would come back again to try more items!

We went to Ah Ma's on a Friday night, and it was quite popular! We ended up having to wait over 30 minutes before being seated. We ordered the black pepper beef and the half kiln chicken, both of which were flavorful and reasonably portioned. Unfortunately, they were out of the XL boba, even though it was fairly early on in the night, so I'd suggest that you go as early as you can if you're looking to try it!

Nice, unique Cantonese Resturant in Richmond. I've heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it for a while. Came on a random weekday for dinner and it wasn't too packed. We ordered popular half chicken, brisket noodles, and beef chow mein. Chicken was very good and moist. Certainly unique. Brisket noodles was exactly what I expected. Service was decent and fast. Wouldn't mind coming back to try other items.

Came for lunch on a Friday around noon and it was packed. We got seated and were served pretty quick, and we got our food in good time as well. There weren't too many servers but they were working hard. We ordered the stir fried black pepper beef macaroni, spicy wontons, half chicken (and a bowl of rice on the side), and an iced Hong Kong milk tea. The half chicken was my favorite - juicy and savory, five spice seasoned, with the sauce going perfectly with the side of rice we ordered. They debone the chicken for you which is nice. The stir fried black pepper beef macaroni had good flavor and went down easily, albeit a small portion. The spicy wontons had a strong ma la flavor but the sauce was quite sweet. Iced milk tea was good. Seating is comfortable and service is friendly.

The restaurant was pretty empty around 2pm and service was rather non existent. The bathroom had no soap or paper towels... The four of us ordered a cucumber salad, 1/2 kiln chicken, black pepper beef macaroni, and a scrambled egg and pork pineapple bun. The cucumber salad was ok, on the plain side. The kiln chicken was moist and fell right off the bone-- just a little too salty for me and the skin was quite fatty and still had a lot of hairs on it. We all liked the black pepper macaroni although the macaroni was overcooked so it just tasted like ho fun. The pineapple bun sandwich was pretty good tho and the pork was super tender. My friend got the XxxL boba milk tea, the tea itself was really good but the "boba" is actually grass jelly, not my favorite thing. The HK lemon iced tea was really good and strong, I took half of it to-go and cut it with water when I got home.

I keep seeing this place featured on people's Instagram stories and wanted to see what the hype was all about. I arrived around noon on a Sunday and the place was packed. I added my name and phone number to the waitlist and shopped around Clement Street until they called me back about 30 minutes later. It wasn't too long of a wait, and it's very convenient that they call you when your table is almost ready. Most of the items I ordered were things I saw on social media, along with a couple of items that sounded interesting: The Food & Drinks XXXL Boba Milk Tea (Grass Jelly) Please note: the "giant boba" aren't actually boba, but grass jelly! It didn't have much of the herbal taste that grass jelly normally has, but the milk tea was nice and strong without being too sweet. Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wings (6 pcs) I was very intrigued by this item; I'm a fan of salted egg batter and had never seen it done on wings before. These came out piping hot with skin that was nice, crispy, and full of salted egg flavor. This is a must-try. Garlic Broccoli A well-made and flavorful vegetable dish. Stir-Fried Black Pepper Beef Macaroni This was my favorite dish, and I was surprised by how good it was. This isn't the standard pasta you'd find in mac and cheese; I believe it's rice macaroni, as it has a chewy, bouncy texture. The black pepper flavor was nice and strong. My only complaint is that the portion was a bit small--I wish I had more! Kiln Chicken (Half) From my understanding, this is their signature dish. If you want a full chicken, you must pre-order it ahead of time. It arrived piping hot, and the waiter--wearing thick heat-protection gloves under latex gloves--shredded it right in front of us. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy with a delicious herbal flavor. Scrambled Egg & Pork Bo Lo Bun Sandwich For some reason, this sandwich reminds me of a McChicken--I think it's the combination of the mayo, lettuce, and the deep-fried pork chop. The pork was surprisingly juicy and flavorful, pairing perfectly with the pineapple bun. Final Thoughts Overall, everything was great. I would definitely visit again!

My husband & I stopped by Ah Ma's Kitchen for lunch on Easter Sunday. Super packed but honestly the wait wasn't too bad especially for a holiday. We were seated I think within 30-45 minutes. I will say service was okay, they're super busy and constantly running around. We weren't given any utensils or water. Te space is pretty small so if customers insist on waiting inside by the door, it creates a blockage for them, which did happen while we were here. We ordered the half kiln chicken, deluxe chow mein, scrambled egg & pork pineapple bun, XXXL boba milk tea & iced HK milk tea. There were so many other items on the menu that we wanted to try but will halve to return with a few friends/family so we can order more lol. XXXL boba milk tea & HK milk tea - 7/10 the tea is pretty flavorful & surprisingly not sweet given that we didn't ask for any adjustments. Interesting twist with the giant grass jelly "boba". Deluxe chow mein- 7/10 super flavorful however for a deluxe the portion was just okay, the shrimp in the chow mein was super small and the dish overall was a little more oily. I would ask for less oil next time if we were to order it again. Scrambled egg with pork pineapple bun - 8/10 the pineapple bun was super flakey and over the dish was good. I think the only knock is the size of the pork cutlet, it was moist & not super dry. Also wondering if they make the buns in house or partner with another bakery?? Half kiln chicken - smelled so good even just as they were unwrapping the layers of foil. Beautiful roasted & well seasoned! They debone the chicken for you at the table! Overall, a pretty solid spot & would come again to try other dishes. I think the kiln chicken really holds them up but it is dang delicious. Also just the lack of space to write down your name on the waitlist because it fills up so fast. Hopefully they're able to find a better system that works for them soon!

In fact, I was quite forlorn having presumed this location of Limon was permanently closed. I liked the way they prepared their pollo à la brasa because the Peruvian-style chicken was consistently succulent. I'm guessing maintaining the quality and profitability of a sit-down restaurant has been economically challenging since this was not the only Limon that has closed. I was encouraged that they kept the space and reinvented it into more of a fast food/takeout operation replete with a cartoon chicken mascot and an animated mural along the northern side of the building. I came by in the middle of a weekday afternoon, so I wasn't ready to eat on the spot. I decided on a takeout order of the $21.95 Half Chicken Pollo à la Brasa with two sides. I think I overdid the starches and went with the Plantains and Yuca Fries. I only noticed afterward that I could've gotten salad or cole slaw instead. When I got home and started to eat, I was immediately disappointed that the chicken tasted overcooked with the breast piece particularly dry. That was too bad because the skin from the rotisserie had the familiar flavorful seasonings. The plantains were tasty albeit a bit oily, while I had to nuke the lukewarm yuca fries to bring them back to life (Photo 9). Next time, I'll time my arrival closer to lunch or dinner, so I can dine in-house. My hope is that the chicken will be closer to the quality level I recall from Limon. Rooster & Rice is a chain with multiple locations serving up Khao Mun Gai (or Thai style chicken…read morerice), but my most recent order with them really fell flat. I ordered "The Original" with jasmine chicken rice, extra cilantro, cucumber, chicken skin (love that those are free add-ons), and an egg, and while the bowl was fine, all of the flavors felt like they could've been amped up several notches as everything leaned pretty bland and one note. I even swapped in the ginger scallion sauce, usually my favorite with Hainanese chicken, but it still fell flat and didn't bring the dish together the way I'd hoped. The dark meat was okay, if under-seasoned, but the breast meat was honestly pretty rough as it was extremely dry to the point where I was chasing each bite with water just to get it down. I added the chicken spring rolls as well, which were poorly wrapped and fell apart after a single bite, and they used the same overcooked white meat, making them basically inedible. If this is the standard for their white meat, I really think they should either stick to dark meat or make it clear that dark meat is an option without an upcharge. That said, my order was ready right when I expected it to be, pickup was smooth, and the staff were very nice and friendly, which keeps this from dropping lower in rating as I'm likewise hoping this was just an off night.

I have to confess that I don't even like buffalo, the tang and that feeling in the back of your mouth that makes you want to drink a full glass of water after? I always hated it. don't get me started on the color/the way it stains EVERYTHING. BUT THIS RIGHT HERE? screw my white shirt, I'll use it as a napkin for these wings. Serg idk who you are but you're my new hero. Plus the spice level? not crazy hot, maybe like hot cheetos level (the regular hot cheetos, but also the flavor is too good to care about the spice) Their ranch is also hella good, and I don't like ranch like that. This place is making me redact all my statements about foods I DON'T like. If that doesn't tell you enough, idk what will. we will 100000% be back for more than just a 5 piece. I might even wear a white shirt next time.

Ordered to-go, wings were delicious!…read more I tried the Mango Habanero, Buffalo, and Lemon Pepper. Mango Hab was my ABSOLUTE favorite -- loved the sweet & spicy combo. The wings were so juicy and delicious. They have so many flavors, so definitely want to try some of the other options soon :)
