Arrived right at opening and I was already the third in line. The moment I sat down, I immediately put down an order of half the Kiln chicken($17.95) and I'm glad I did because it took approximately 30mins to come out. We had multiple kids at our table and the staff was considerate enough to shred the chicken at a different table. I felt bad because I could tell that he was stressing about where to put our dishes so the kids wouldn't get burned so I appreciated the thoughtfulness. The chicken was on the salty side in my opinion. I boiled the leftover chicken/bones later that evening in a pot of water with udon and it was flavorful enough, no additional salt was even necessary. The XXXL "Boba" milk tea($6.95) has definitely been a recent trend that has been going on around the bay area. Nothing special as it was just your typical HK Style milk tea with large boba-shaped grassjelly. Their milk tea was very rich and had bold flavors which I enjoyed. The beef chow fun($15.95) and the beef brisket casserole with radish($20.95) was mediocre, nothing really stood out. I thought the portions were pretty small. This kiln chicken is everything. Authentic flavors of my childhood. The chicken is so tender and juicy that the meat literally falls off the bone. I wish we ordered rice to eat it with because it was a little salty without, but 10/10 would come back for this. I first stopped by during lunch when it was pretty packed, so I returned for dinner. I didn't order much since I had a late lunch, but I tried the salted chicken wings, Kilin chicken, and their regular milk tea. The chicken wings were okay but a bit underwhelming, once you get past the salted egg crust, the chicken itself was pretty bland. Their signature Kilin Chicken was an experience, though. Came in for a late lunch to give this new restaurant a try. A few empty tables, so we didn't have to wait. Since we weren't that hungry, we only ordered two items to give it a try. Ambiance was modern, clean and bright. On the wall, they posted suggested instructions to enjoy their specialty, Kilin Chicken. Service was attentive, fast and the food came out pretty quickly. On to the food: 1) Kilin Chicken(5.8/10) - It was just okay. The white meat portions were a bit dry and the dark meat was a bit juicier. Flavor was a bit lacking at certain sections of the chicken. It sort of reminds me of the salt baked chicken you would get at Cantonese spots, but the skin isn't crispy. There was a lot of juice/drippings on the bottom of the dish; I would suggest getting a bowl of rice and pouring some of that over it. A bit underwhelming given it is their specialty and that it was $18 for only half of a chicken. 2) Scallion Oil Lo Mein with Beef Brisket(6/10) - This was also just okay. With the scallion oil and the sauce from the beef brisket, the noodles felt very heavy and greasy. There wasn't a lot of veggies(2 bok choys) or other components to help with the greasiness of the dish. The beef brisket portion was good; flavorful and tender. I would suggest either omitting the scallion oil from the noodles as it didn't even come through, as it was covered by the strong flavor of the beef brisket sauce. Comes with a side of soup. As I don't frame of reference for what Kilin chicken is suppose to taste like...I can't really compare. But as a dish on it own, it was just average. First off, it's a beautiful item, you can immediately tell it's made with a hamburger-style bun topped with that classic sweet pineapple bun crust. Their menu is mainly "HK cafe" style with some China inland fusion. We had their signature Kiln Chicken(窑鸡), it was quite tasty and juicy. We almost finished it before our Scallion Oil Lo Mein With Beef Brisket (牛腩葱油捞面) and Scramble Egg with Pork Pineapple Bun came. The Scramble Egg with Pork Pineapple Bun was pretty good in general even the scramble egg was a little bit over cooked (not quite 滑蛋) and the pork chop was also a little bit dry. The Scallion Oil Lo Mein With Beef Brisket was very good. I really liked their Beef Brisket. The noodles was good but not as crunchy as the HK wonton noodle style. The soup came with it also wasn't the HK wonton noodle soup style (with 大地魚) but it's ok. For drinks, I have the Hot Hongkong Style Milk Tea, quite ok but not sure it worthed $6 for that. My friend had the XXXL 'Boba' Milk Tea, the Boba was not the crunchy and fill you up kind but the grass jelly type which I liked better. Well, I am a Boba' Milk Tea person anyway. I visited Ah Ma Kitchen during their soft opening and overall it was a good experience with some highlights and a few small drawbacks. The pork chop pineapple bun was the standout. The top had a crispy golden crust that broke apart with just the right crunch, while the inside of the bun was soft and slightly sweet. The shrimp wontons had a delicate thin skin and the filling had a clean, fresh flavor that stood out in the broth. The sizzling black pepper beef arrived hot and flavorful, and the beef itself was tender, but the dish had a lot of onions which took away from the balance. The chicken had a nice seasoning and flavor but was on the dry side. I also tried a boba drink and unfortunately it was the least impressive item. The drink itself was fine but the boba tasted more like jelly pieces than actual chewy tapioca. Service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant felt bright, modern, and clean inside. Since it was during their soft opening, there was a 15 percent discount which was a nice surprise. The one major drawback was on my very first visit when I waited around 40 minutes before being told that the kitchen had run out of food. Always excited to try a new restaurant serving home style Chinese food, but unfortunately just a few misses. We came during dinner and ordered several items including the salted duck egg chicken wings, cucumber salad, dried scallop fried rice, and their speciality kiln chicken that they advertise as a must try on their menu. Food came pretty quickly and was for the most tasty. Unfortunately we did find a piece of steel sponge in our fried rice (assuming from when they clean their cookware in between orders). Luckily we noticed it and just picked it out, but would not have enjoyed getting that caught in our throats while eating. The worst item in my opinion in taste, execution, and value was the kiln chicken. For 17.95 for a half chicken I was expecting some exceptionally juicy and well-seasoned chicken, however it was quite overcooked, and somewhat bland. The chicken is seasoned in a soy base, but otherwise not too much depth in flavor. Another thing I found a bit off putting is that the chicken sits in a puddle of oil/fat in its foil tent, so there's a bit of a weird dichotomy of the chicken being dry yet greasy at the same time. Overall not that good, and I'm not sure I would order it again. Great to see new restaurants pop up in this area and I'd like to try it again maybe once a few kinks have been ironed out. read more

I'm typically not one to write reviews but thought my experience should be shared. My friend and I arrived at opening, were the 3rd to be seated, but waited over an hour to get our food. For the drinks I ordered the Hong Kong style lemon tea and my friend ordered the xxxl boba milk tea as the passion fruit & lime sparking refresher was unavailable. I wish they would've informed us what was unavailable when handing us the menu. What was shocking to me though was the fact that it took about an hour for these drinks to be served. Seeing that the waiters served other customers and continuously refilled their waters while having us wait for our drinks was a little infuriating. We also never got a refill on our waters... As for the taste, the boba milk tea tasted a little watered down and the lemon tea had a prominent flavor. We also shared a plate of garlic brocoli and the chicken chow mein. This took over an hour to arrive. Other customers ordered more complex dishes and seeing that their dishes arrived prior to ours really had my blood boiling. At about an hour we asked for the eta of the food and was informed that it should be out in 10 minutes. It ended up taking 25 minutes to come. Cooking broccoli and adding garlic sauce should take no longer than 15 minutes and I believe that since we arrived at opening we could've been served one dish at a time to minimize the wait. Though the garlic broccoli tasted good as it was cooked to perfection, the chicken on the chow mein was unseasoned and found that the noodles were doused in too much sauce. I also found that there was only one competent waiter and that the others only refilled waters and wiped down tables. They were unable to take payments and ask for the eta for food in the kitchen. However, I did find that all of the waiters were not the friendliest of people, as they didn't check in on the taste of our food or say thank you after eating at their restaurant. It almost seemed as they take customers for granted and disrespect them. I understand that there may have been customers who ordered prior to us and that they would receive their food first. However, seeing that online orders were served prior to in store customers was painful to watch and we were definitely tempted to leave prior to the arrival of our food. Going forward, I think this place should hire more competent staff and learned to serve their customers better by being appreciative of their presence and by inform their customers that there may be a wait. However, with such a heartbreaking experience, I do not plan on returning. I hope this review is informative to the staff here and hope that other customers have a more pleasant experience. read more

This is for the chicken sandwich that they sell. Pretty expensive for such a basic sandwich. You could get a quality sandwich for that same price almost anywhere in the city. Honestly I don't understand the hype around this and why it sells out. Ive had better elsewhere to he honest. Ill probably go back try their other foods except the sandwich read more

I've been craving for Canton style comfort food so long and was finally able to found the authentic one in the city! I want to recommend you to try lemon black ice tea, HongKong style Mike tea and definitely the chicken (Yao Ji) !!! The staff will take care of processing the roasted hot chicken! Half chicken is good for 2-3 person with ordering other dishes. I also like the pineapple sandwich bun. Yumyum! read more

This is my third time here. We waited at the entrance for five minutes before we were seated. The server brought us two glasses of water. Five minutes later, I grabbed the menu myself. After 15 minutes, four girls arrived and seated. Five minutes later, the server took their order. Ten minutes passed, and the server still hadn't taken our order.
