Nicole K. and Sara S. convinced me that Ahi Lovers was the place to go downtown for poke. I never doubt them, so we went. Ahi Lovers is a difficult establishment to find. It;s on the bottom floor of one of those downtown buildings, so the address doesn't really match up with what street it actually is on. The establishment itself is small, with only a couple tables. It also gets very crowded during lunch time with business workers. The line is not a problem though, as they are very efficient in making the food. I only waited a minute or two before my spicy ahi bowl was ready. The spicy ahi bowl will run you a little over $8 (a little more pricy than Foodland or Onos), but you get a choice of what kind of rice you want with your bowl as well as some greens with your choice of poke. I opted for the black rice, which I highly recommend. I also thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and texture of the spicy ahi. Ahi Lovers prepares the spicy ahi similar to Kozo; the ahi isn't cubed, it's like....mashed(?). It's kinda hard to explain, so if you don't like that sort of texture, I'd go for the regular poke, which is prepared in the cubed way. The menu is set up so that you can order very easily, but there isn't exactly the right combination of spicy ahi and salmon nigiri that I want in the combo options. Oh well, maybe I can share with someone next time....or just suck it up and eat the maguro. Haha. The miso soup that came with my spicy ahi bowl was also surprisingly good, but maybe it was just because it was a particularly cold day and I was hungry. Due to the limited seating, we ended up going across the street to eat. It seems like most people take their food back to their offices. As I don't work downtown, parking in a muni lot to come here and eat outside is kinda out of the way for me, but I'd happily do it again, especially to have lunch with my downtown-working friends. read more

I work three or four blocks from Ahi Lover's (AL) and heard only good things about the place. I finally go there and have the G1 which is a combination of nigiri sushi--maguro, sake and spicy maguro. All were excellent. The tuna and salmon were nice healthy cuts with nice color, and more importantly, had great texture and very fresh. Easily the best take out sushi I've ever had. Better than or just as good as many restaurants. Maybe, just maybe it's because the last two take out sushi I had was at best average. Nah, AL's sushi was just plain deliciously ono. Is that redundant? Yes, and rightly so. Unfortunately, the more fun I have and the better the food is, the less I take photos so I do not have visual proof. But the last sushi I had before looked good but was spongy hard and had started to smell. I'm guessing something AL never served. Another big plus was the miso soup that came with the meal. Wow! This place is the bomb! It's located in the Davies Pacific building outside facing Queen street. They have a variety of poke and sashimi bowls and bentos. The bentos come with miso soup and if you get the combo it comes with a salad. They also have some awesome specials too. I ordered their Thunder bowl special bowl which was delicious! It came with shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, onions, pickles, tobiko and my choice of black rice topped with special sauce. It was so tasty and worth every bite! One of my favorite downtown lunch spots. The best way to describe this place is, fresh, efficient, and friendly. The Food: I am always a fan of fresh food. Especially fresh tuna. Seriously, who isn't? Nobody wants a tuna that has bad texture and smells bad right? Well, you don't have to worry about that here. I love the combo choices and I also love that the meals come with miso soup. The soup is always very hot when served. My Favorite thing to order is the spicy ahi & natto bowl with sushi rice. Ever since I stopped working downtown, I have missed getting my Ahi & Vegetable fix. I was excited when I read about Ahi Lovers on Yelp! According to other Yelpers, they are run by the same folks that ran the second Ahi & Vegetable location on Alakea that closed a year or so ago. I headed there for the first time this past week and the food did not disappoint. It was the same great taste that I remember. I ordered my usual Spicy Ahi/Spicy Salmon Combo on Brown Rice. The fish is fresh and has just the right spice and consistency. It comes with miso soup and is a great deal for $8. For $1 more you can order a set, which includes both miso soup and salad. I also love that you can add an extra scoop of Spicy Ahi for just $2 more. Ahi Lovers also takes credit cards, which I appreciate as someone who rarely carries cash. I had read about a stamp card, but I was told they discontinued the program (bummer!). According to a sign in the restaurant, however, they will be starting some kind of new promotion in September. I absolutely love Ahi Lovers. They're very conveniently located if you work downtown, especially for me since it's right across the street from my office. I've gone twice and only tried it two weeks ago. Their storefront is fairly clean, and they get you your food very quickly. The menu prices are exactly what they charge, so if it says $9, you pay $9. I've tried their spicy ahi salad and the sashimi salad. The spicy ahi salad was a little funky since their spicy ahi is sort of mashed together and not in cubes. I feel like this is more of a mainland style spicy ahi, but it was good regardless. I'm pretty weak when it comes to spice, and it was totally manageable. In fact, I even added some wasabi and shoyu for the nose heat I love. The salad dressing was very good too, and the lettuce was a good mixture of the green and white part of the lettuce. This salad was $9. The sashimi salad was also amazing. It came with both ahi and salmon sashimi, two of my favorite fishes. The fish looked fresh and wasn't fishy at all. It's the same dressing as their spicy ahi salad, and for a lot more fish, you just pay $2 at $11 for the salad. The staff is friendly, and their menu is expansive. Tip: if you like shoyu or wasabi, ask for extra because they only give one packet of shoyu and a small amount of wasabi. Overall, I love this place and plan on giving them lots of business. I spotted this joint only about 1 1/2 weeks ago or so (if even that). I quickly picked up a menu and noticed it looked very similar to the now closed Ahi & Vegetable II. I read some of the Yelp reviews and someone mentioned that it's the same owners but got into a disagreement with Ahi/Vegetable so opened their own shop. I love the pink wall and pink hats they wear in the shop.. cute! I ordered the Spicy Ahi bowl on sushi rice with salad instead of soup. It was delicious and tastes just like the old spot and now I don't need to walk all the way up Fort Street for a good spicy ahi bowl. I think it runs about $7. You can also get plain white or brown rice and miso soup instead of rice (soup is standard, not the salad). As a promo, they are doing a free drink with purchase (canned soda or bottle of water) and also have a stamp card promo (I think buy 10, get 1 free). These 2 promos combined are great! Yay! After Ahi & Vegetable II on Alakea St. closed down last year, I've waiting for their return. It's reopened under the name "Ahi Lovers" now, about a half block away on Queen street, right next to Cake Couture. Turns out that there must have been some sort of falling out with that partnership and the new place had to have a new name. It's smaller than Ahi&Vege II, with about 2-3 tables for inside seating. The menu looks smaller, but as I order the spicy tuna bowl every time, it doesn't matter to me. Roughly the same price, the same taste, and a friendly owner who noticed me on the street last week and told me they were opening today. They have a stamp card, so collect 10 stamps and get a free meal under $10 It won't take me long to fill the stamp card, I'm so happy I can resume my twice a week Ahi bowl habit without having to walk 15 minutes up to fort street read more

I am soooo happy that this place opened so close to our office! One of the only other places I've given 5 stars to is Ahi & Vegetable and this is just like it!! The restaurant just opened up a few weeks ago, but it's already bustling with business! Since it's still new, they have a "free drink" special so be sure to pick one up from the fridge when you come in. The menu is very similar to Ahi & Vegetable. I love how you can mix almost any topping you want on your rice bowl. I usually get an ahi poke and salmon sashimi combo over sushi rice. (They also have brown rice for those eating healthy!) Each of their rice bowls also come with miso soup. You can order a "set" which then comes with miso soup AND a salad. I usually spend about $8 on a bowl but it is sooooo worth it! They also started a rewards card so after 10 stamps, you can get a free meal! Not bad at all :) Definitely stop by this place if you are in downtown. I joined Nicole K. on her lunch break and got the B3 bento ($10) which comes with 1 scoop spicy ahi, 1 scoop spicy salmon, 1 scoop poke, with veggies, and miso soup. I also opted to get black rice instead of regular rice, because let's be honest, that stuff is GOOD and supposedly healthier for you! The staff are very efficient and the food was ready in no time. The ahi was okay. It's very fine and the consistency is NOT cubed, think similar to mushed up potato salad in texture. The salmon was also okay, but I liked the ahi better. Lastly, the poke was actually my favorite of the three in the bento. Perfect sized cubes and seasoning! What really set Ahi Lovers apart from the other ahi places for me was the black rice. That is probably why it does not get a 5 star rating, because the best part of the bento was not the ahi, but the rice! They do get bonus points definitely for having this option at no extra charge though. I LOVE black rice! I envy the downtown lunch crew for having this place as an option, however, I can't complain about my own choices either. And I certainly don't envy the parking situation downtown. read more

Ordered through Ubereats and was very disappointed. When you look at their menu on uber eats. It is divided between picked for you, rice bowls, salads udon, rolls. My co-worker and I ordered Spicy Ahi Salad, and a screen will pop up if you would like to make it a set. I declined the rice and miso (which I wish we could order a side of just the miso soup). I looked over my order and it just said Spicy Ahi, but i figured maybe when they receive it on their end it will let them know that it was a salad and not a rice bowl. When we received our order I was wondering why it was in a bowl w/rice. And sure enough when I called to complain about it, all the girl had to say was "when the order came in it just said spicy ahi, so we just assume that it's over rice because veggies wasn't specified" So I told her that online through uber eats we selected selected spicy ahi under your salads, so you will need to change that so this doesn't happen. The crappy part about it is that I told her that we're on a Keto diet so we can't eat the rice and it would be a waste. And all that was said was "sorry about that". Overall it was good. this great little place near bishop street, that serves fast food sushi. Based on the reviews and the lines out the door during lunch time, it gets plenty of repeat local business. This isn't a tourist joint. Its mainly populated by business people that would pass if the food wasn't good. The ladies behind the counter were fast, funny, and friendly. They cranked out my order in just a few minutes. Seating is limited, so I rolled across the street where there is a courtyard with plenty of tables. This place is extremely quick and easy to find. When I am looking for something that is fairly priced and fast since I am always on the go for lunch, I come to this place sometimes. The people are pretty friendly and helpful. I have only had their raw ahi and salmon items, so I can't give a comprehensive review. I will just say that I wasn't extremely pleased with the fish when I got it. It was a little bit warm and a bit too oily/saucy for my liking. The bentos and bowls all come with miso soup, though, which balances it out. I think I will try this place out again. read more
