I wanted to share my experience with Ahrens & Condill HVAC company and specifically with Scott, since he was my primary contact. I contacted them and talked to Scott about the heat issue in my apartment. I knew exactly what needed to be done, as the maintenance person from my building had already inspected it and told me exactly what repairs need to take place. In my phone conversation with Scott, I explained everything to him in details and sent him pictures. He mentioned that he would still need to come out to inspect my unit before repairs could take place. When I asked him, sure, but could you please do the repair in one visit. He said no, justifying it that that's how it is usually done and I will need to pay $140 just for the first visit. I agreed to it. When he came in he literally spent 10 min at my place because, again, I had told him what needed to be done from the beginning and even sent him what he needed to bring with him. So I literally paid $140 for nothing. We then agreed that he will order necessary parts for the repair and will send his guys to do it. When I asked how much it would cost - he said that it's $150 per hour. So it solely depends on the time it takes to finish the job. I said ok and agreed to it. A week later Scott texted me saying that he received all necessary parts and ready to schedule repair visit. He also added that this work will cost $825. I was shocked with the cost and asked him how did he even come up with this number, since he told me that final cost solely depended on time duration and they only charge per hour, which is $150 per hour. He said that the material is part of the cost. I know for a fact that the material is no more than $100, so I asked him how much is the material. He didn't even bother explaining it and just said that his company works on flat rate pricing and they don't break it down per part and labor. Which was a complete lie and scam because initially he stated that they only charge per hour and that's how final cost gets calculated. Basically he wanted me to pay $826 + $140 (which I had already paid) = $966 for something that should not take more than 1-2 hours and should be around $300-$400 with labor and material. I am being completely transparent about my experience with them and particularly with Scott. Because I want to ensure that no one else gets fooled by them and spend money for nothing. We woke up on Christmas Eve to a cold house and the furnace not working. I called Ahrens & Condill at 7am and they were able to get a technician out by 8:30! It turned out to be a minor issue, and even though they could have gouged us with it being the Holidays the whole repair was only $200. What a fantastic experience and we will be using them again! read more

They came to look at our AC during a hot spell-- it had shut off for some reason. My wife was the only one home and they took her for $260 for only a diagnosis. The diagnosis was wrong and there is no way to get refunded. Not an ethical business that you would want to work with for sure. Do not use these people unless you want someone to take advantage and charge you a premium for no real value. No communication after the visit even when we called. Really a poor experience and will not be using again or recommend to friends. read more

I'm disappointed to have to write this review because I know how online reviews can affect companies these days, but I just experienced something very disheartening with this company, and it seems that reviews must not matter to them.  I'm simply shocked at the rudeness, and further, at the refusal to discuss and clarify.  I called to inquire about having AC retrofitted into an older house that I am considering purchasing for a business investment.  The person who I needed to speak with was not available, so they were going to call me back.  I almost immediately got a call back from a woman who was calling to let me know that I am on their "do not service" list from not paying a previous bill and writing them a bad check (which would have been in my previous last name) and refusing to pay them.  I was very caught off guard and confused because I could only recall one time I did business with their company, and that was just this past spring, which I paid for the service with a credit card with the technician when he was here.  I used them this spring because I had recently purchased this home, and they were the company who had serviced it in the past.  I expressed my confusion to her, along with why, and said that I would certainly want to pay them if I missed a bill.  I asked for more information, and she refused to give me more information other than to say, "it was at another house you owned".  Wouldn't give me the information so I could look into it and see if there was something I had missed or forgotten, and if so, at the very least I could pay them.  I looked back in my records, and the only time I could find that I used them was this past spring... again, which was paid.   Then when I thought about it further because it was really bothering me, I realized that the name I gave her in my call today is my name that is changing because of a marital name change, and has only been changed in the past couple of months... not even changed on my ID/Drivers License yet.  So any name I would have used in the past even if I had missed a time when I previously worked with them, would have been a different name that I had since I owned any home to need AC or Furnace work.  I'm confident she was mistaking me for someone else, but the way she treated me and spoke to me, and her refusal to even clear the matter up, says something to me about the business.  Especially as an owner of businesses and engaging with my customers.  I wouldn't have written a review for something like this, but I even attempted to call back and clarify and was unsuccessful.   The one time I used them for service, the technician was very nice and educational about the problem I was having this spring, so I was happy to use them again.  Now, even if I somehow got through to them to clarify the situation, I'm so turned off by how it was handled and what I think it says about how the company is run, that I couldn't consider using them again or ever recommending them to anyone.  I flip homes and often have heating and AC needs, so I am sure I am considered a quality customer.   As a business owner it's hard for me to comprehend turning away customers at all, especially a quality one.  But even if I do/did, I would treat the customer with dignity and kindness without making an assumption that could be incorrect, particularly when the assumption is questioned by the customer. In the end, it seems either this company does not value it's customers and/or treat them respectfully, or that they are raking in so much money that they can turn away new customers if the customer questions them or asks for proof of billing or does not fit their profile of a customer worthy of their services.  I would have gone with one star, but the woman who answered the phone both times I called, before and after the "news", was very kind and respectful.  The technician who was here this spring was as well, so I couldn't ignore their good work and efforts, even if the owner/management failed horribly.  There are too many businesses out there who actually need the customers, many of which are struggling in the current times, to choose a company who doesn't need customers and respect them. read more

Last week I needed service for my Trane Furnace as the house was getting very warm and the furnace was running and running so I called Ahrens & Condill to check out my system. It was found that it was a defective old thermostat so the serviceman replaced it with a new one which was this time a Trane Programmable Thermostat and everything is now working 100%. During this year I used Ahrens & Condill to clean and check my Trane Furnace and AC and have been very pleased with their service. read more
