Service is a bit slow here and its very hard to get the wait staff. When i last stopped by it they had run out of the oxtail soup when i stopped by for lunch. That was a bit disappointing. Just had my favorite ox tail soup here for lunch over the weekend. Service was excellent, friendly young men took our order and brought the food out quickly, very attentive to our table. Booked three lanes on a Saturday for a work party, was very easy to do online - you can purchase your bowling shoes and I think even food. I hadn't been here before, otherwise I would have realized I should have booked either 2 or 4 lanes - the seats are in front of 2 lanes, so 1/3 of our party was sharing a seating area with another group. It was a really busy Saturday and at first I thought we were gonna have issues because one lane appeared to have technical difficulties and the other two lanes were not cleared on the digital screen, so we ended up waiting 20 minutes into our reservation before we could actually start bowling. They were very apologetic and provided us the time on the other end , so we stayed a half hour past our time. I had heard the food was fantastic, especially the Tasty Chicken - can vouch for that. The fried calamari was a little salty for me, though. Back of the house rocked - we got our food fairly quickly despite the crowds who came to bowl and just to eat. As a millennial born and raised in Hawaii, I've seen Aiea bowl in different phases of my life from elementary school field trips to Her-Way-Thursdays. YEP! I have to admit, during my college days, you could see the years of aging all over the facilities, and I think that's why I haven't come back in a few years. In a way, it's like the only thing keeping it alive is the restaurant and oxtail soup. But let me just tell you now, Aiea Bowl is back (not that it ever left) and it's here to stay! Most likely, you'll see me here more often and I would encourage if you haven't been here in a year or two, come back and see for yourself. First of all, wow! The facility got a major face lift and the atmosphere has shifted. Like I mentioned before, I used to come here for Manoa Maniacs or Her-Way-Thursdays so I remember when Aiea Bowl was trying to be a club, but it just didn't look like one. Now, however I feel like they've done a great job of finding a balance between a great hangout spot for friends and family of all ages, but easy to transition to club when needed. Some surprising things I noticed were the cubbies that were perfect for putting our shoes in, and the ladies even had a spot for their bags. The seats were comfy and easy to move around in. Everywhere looked so much cleaner than how I remember it, and the technology is so advanced! You can customize your name, add/delete/skip players if needed, change the bowling game to something entirely different, even add photos to the system to just add a personal touch. Two hours here was not enough! Here's some helpful things I also garnered while here. First, you're gonna wanna make a reservation, especially on Tuesdays when bowling is HALF OFF! This was also the day we went so there was a queue. Next, if you want food, you can order but best to get take-out. They'll also call your name throughout the bowling alley when your food is done. Depending on what you order, some people might get their food before you, but the food, like all the years gone by, is still worth the wait! Okay, so Oxtail soup is almost $30 these days, just don't get it and order a classic burger and fries! My friends and I ate fries, burgers, pizza, the works and everything tasted great, no doubt that even though the bowling alley went through a rough phase, their food has stayed consistently good. Do yourself and your family a favor and keep supporting this local business. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you'll have at a long-time Hawaii classic. My biggest advice? Review is from my dining experience in May. It has been years since I've eaten here and I honestly forgot how amazing it is! While my cousin and I were out running errands we decided to come in to eat. The service was amazing and portions were huge, could not finish! We were early (a little after 5) so we were seated quickly. I tried their ramen since it was a rainy day. Had previously eaten their oxtail with ramen and though the ramen noodles were good, the broth was extremely oily. I thought it was due to the oxtails but even the regular ramen broth has quite a sheen of oil on the broth surface. Ramen came piping hot. Noodles had a good chew, but they do get soggy since the broth is so hot (to be expected). Condiments are a few pieces of char siu (good flavor), kamaboko (fish cake), green onions (which I omit), and mustard cabbage. I really would prefer choi sum, mustard cabbage flavor is strong and works when there's oxtails due to their flavor but for me, not in regular ramen. Good amount of noodles, decent price. Wouldn't come here specifically for their ramen but might get it again. Hubby had the boneless Kalbi bowl, now served on a plate. Much easier to eat on a plate so this is an improvement. Kalbi is consistently good, tiny scoop of rice and tiny scoop of mac salad accompany the meat. Really should have a little larger scoop of rice... You can get tossed salad instead of mac. Ramen was a 3.5, Kalbi a 4.0, would be 4.5 if the rice scoop were larger. read more

I recently took my media group on a field trip to Aiea Bowl. Best day to book is on Tuesday because the lanes are half off. We played for two hours for two lanes for $70 which was great. It wasn't crowded at all either. It's been a while since I've been bowling at Aiea Bowl. I think the last time was probably right out of college and now I'm ... anyways.. Since then they have made some cool upgrades. My students were in grades 4,5, or 6 and many of them it was their first time bowling. I had to tell them to get the right size ball for them and tell them to put their names in for the display. It was nice that the computerized system now has the option to select bumpers. Back in the day, they would take out these foam bumpers to the people who wanted them. Was kind of embarrassing. But now they have bumpers that just pop out in your lane. Each person can decide if they want bumpers or not. Of course all of us chose bumpers, haha. We had a great time cheering each other and competing with each other. We all had a great time. I also think they loved it because they got to order food and eat while bowling. It was a win win read more

Ever since some friends introduced us to this restaurant, it's been our go-to in Aiea. Their tasty chicken lives up to its name, through it is in the sweet side, so be sure to pair it with rice or greens. It's perfectly crispy and served in massive portions. I also love the kalbi beef, though it was on the tougher side during our last visit. Their desserts are must-try. Even my brother, who is not a dessert person, was impressed by their lemon crunch cake. I loved their pumpkin cake because of its three layers of delicious flavor and texture - the crust was flaky, the middle was dense and creamy, and the top was light and fluffy. Ok, I don't know why I have never written a review for this spot yet but this is one of those unassuming extremely wonderful, potentially gate-kept local spots that you just cannot miss. My usual go-to would be the mixed plate with boneless kalbi and tasty chicken with brown rice and mac salad. They have excellent oxtail soup and hamburger steak too, plus the desserts are so ono! My FIL is obsessed with their pumpkin crunch while grandma loves the lemon crunch. I personally like the strawberry and the tiramisu. I usually go for lunch and they get extremely busy so be prepared to wait but it is so worth it. I'm contemplating going back right now as I write this review because it is just so good. They also have the excellent alley green beans and I also like the calamari. I don't think you can go wrong with anything from this place. Ambiance is very casual, can get really loud being next to the bowling lanes. They also have a full bar and beer specials so keep an eye out for those. They also do take out from the window outside if you can't wait but I feel eating in is always best. A bit pricey but portions are massive so I always leave full with leftovers for the next meal.
