Listen for all you people that are ragging on them they are the only company able to come through on the same day when I have issues with my AC that needs to be charged,today and 3 years ago!!!!! So it is what it is they might be this and that but at least in that hour you need someone to come thru they did it twice for me. The phone was answered by what was obviously a non personal answering service, which collected some information about my needs and then I was transfered to a "scheduling representative" who then informed me they needed both my wife and I present for 1 to 1 and a half hours to go over our needs! I was then told they were a family owned business again to reinforce that they were a personalized business just to overcompensate for the fact that the phone was answered by some type of assembly line sales call center. I told them my wife was not available and I would be happy to meet with them, to which they told me without my wife they would not meet with me and didn't want my business!! Can you imagine? In today's world where both people need to work in a household, they are forcing both to be there?!?! It's obviously a high pressure sales tactic so you are forced into making a decision on the spot and can't tell them you have to check with your spouse?!? ABSOLUTE RIP OFF. Called in for a tiny leak in the pipe last night. Agreed it was at night and after hours. But to fix a very very tiny leak in the pipe, they charged me 900 dollars. This is absolute rip off. The technician did not give entire estimate instead of kept giving prices for the entire job in pieces. just to cut a small piece of sheet rock (6 inch x 12 inch), he charged me 319 dollars. It is ridiculous. The total after all the work came to $900. I asked him if he has any coupons or can offer any discounts. He said none. However, After the all the work was done, he was saying that i could have cut the sheet rock myself instead of having him and pay $319 for it. Why didn't he say it in first place. I could have cut it myself. Absolutely not acceptable. I will never ever call them again and inform my friends and family about it as well. I will also look to report this to BBB as well. read more

So the new panel came in the mail, i hook up the new board. nothing. so i do what ANY specialist would do and i get out the multimeter and check the first thing in the line from the power source, the low water cut off, no power. open it up, the disc capacitor exploded. I gave this 1 star, because i couldn't give minus 1. Now, I am not saying that everyone will experience what we did, but our experience was the worst. One guy came for an emergency, gave us the reason that two men had to be here to use the camera so he couldn't do anything at all except give us a BS story. We have been customers of AJ Perri for years and after their most recent visit to my house, I was compelled to write a review. Larry Sesini and Sam (I am not sure of his last name) arrived at my house after a couple other visits from AJ Perri technicians and not only were they very courteous, but they were also extremely knowledgable. They were back and forth between the unit inside my home and outside working to figure out what was wrong. After they thoroughly checked everything, they explained how and why our air conditioner was doing what it was. I was very impressed by their knowledge and was very pleased that they knew what was wrong. My wife called A.J. Perri Inc. for HVAC assistance just last Friday when she came home to find our heater wasn't working. We've had service and maintenance provided by another company but she decided to give A.J Perri a try. I had just walked in when the service truck pulled up. The technician was then led to the furnace room. Within minutes, he pointed out to my wife that all it needed was a flame sensor. Very quick assessment. He did not even really check out the allegedly defective item. Went to his truck and returned in a heartbeat, from another room, I heard him declare the part cost $269.00 plus $89 for the service trip. A bit surprised, I wanted to see what this sensor looked like. I watched him replace the sensor, to see how it worked. I did not get a chance to ask for the replaced item but later researched the item because it just COST WAY TOO MUCH. Found it cost about $20. That is almost $250 profit on a part that took him a few minutes to replace. HONEST technicians, I understand would check the part and see if it really needs replacement. If it wan't in the forecast to be a cold night, we would have shopped around. The star earned was only to appreciate that the furnace was back to work, but $250 profit on a $20 part plus $89 service fee...Really...!!! read more

Had a leaky toilet and called AJ Perri because I had a coupon and saw the truck in my neighborhood. Coupon was good for waiving the visit fee (about $40). Also by booking online saved 10%. Appointments were available the day after I booked. They made a courtesy prior to the appointment to make sure I was home, which I appreciated. Was it expensive, yes. But I was unsuccessful in fixing the problem myself, and AJ Perri was able to fix it the next day. Dave Gall, the plumber, was friendly and cleaned up after himself. He also answered questions I had about plumbing maintenance. He was in and out within two hours, gave us and itemized bill, and my toilet has been fine since. I would request Dave again, and use the coupon plus online system to help make the bill not so painful. read more

I called them about a clogged drain problem. They came out and fixed it but then the problem occurred so they came out a second time but didn't charge me for that visit which was amazing! I had never used them before but will definitely use them in the future if needed. There price was actually about 1/2 of what I paid in the past...and they stood by their commitment guaranteeing the work. Problem reoccurred the next day and they came out...no questions or charge. Our service technician Matt really knows his stuff, he was sent to reevaluate an air conditioning major problem. He spent a very long time trying to figure out the issue. He was 98% sure he found the problem, replaced the part and saved us a good amount of money. I have called AJ Perri they always arrive prompty even on Sunday. Just a final update. After having a second company come in for an opinion, since every "fix" done by AJ perri didn't work, I told AJ Perri to remove their unit, refund my money. Took 2 weeks of fighting, physically going to their offices and then not letting their techs into the house on the day of removal(the check for my refund was on "Mr. Perri's desk") a runner finally brought the check. Unit left on my front yard for "someone else" to pick up. One poor young man left to load a huge central air compressor. New Unit installed by a different company...not a problem since. The new install took 16 hours as mistakes created by AJ Perri were fixed. Stay far away from this company. They talk a good story, but cost me thousands in missed work, days with no air and aggravation. I scheduled routine A/C Maintenance which was quoted at 89$.It went fine but the guy who came in told that the Capacitor of the AC Unit is faulty and need to be replced. We had the PSEG Worry Free Contract which we told him ,but he insisted WorryFree contract doesnt cover replacing parts and PSEG wont fix it unless my A/C Unit break down.I went ahead with the replacement and they charged 350$ for the same. My bad,i didnt called PSEG before but later when i checked online i found this part was covered under worryfree and i could hv got a free replacement !!!!..I feel cheated and gonna cancel their free price quote appointment for A/c replacement !!!!Later i found in other reviews that the capacitor they replaced cost only 25$ !!!! read more

I am very happy with AJ Perri fixing the water leak in my living room. From the time I called to schedule an appointment everyone was very courtesy and professional. They where able to get a technician out fast. When the technician arrive he was very friendly and introduced himself. Charlie immediately asked to turn off the water and then if he could cut into the ceiling and explained all pricing detail. I said yes he then placed protective covering and immediately went to work. He diagnosed the problem when the ceiling was opened and again explained the pricing. I agreed to the work and he quickly and cleanly completed the job, removing the protective covering and disposing of all trash. It looked like he wasn't even here. Stay Away! Our first floor toilet was leaking into the basement and our regular plumber is not available on Saturdays. We called AJ Perri. Their plumber arrived and went down to the basement. Instead of looking at the toilet leak, he focused instead on our hot water heater, which is up there in age, but looks and works fine - no leaks, no rust. He immediately wanted to sell us a new one. I reminded this fellow WHY he was called by us to begin with. He said he was not prepared to unhook and check out the toilet that day, but was almost sure we needed a new flange and bent pipe because of the house's age (built in 1958). He started to write up an estimate for that job + the hot water heater and we were well over $1300, when we asked him to leave, because we wanted another opinion from our regular plumber. He made a face and walked out - annoyed. Our regular plumber came today. All we needed was a re-seating of the toilet. They used two wax seals and $112 later the job was done almost in no time. I hate up-selling by service people. Leave that to the dispatcher and others if you must. But, when I want something repaired - THAT is all I want done and where I want the focus to be. We all work for a living and our finite wages are what everyone is after. What used be be done in hundreds is now asked for in thousands. There is not enough money to go around. Help people just get by and don't look to grab our whole paychecks and then some. Forget these people. read more

I recently visited a new customer of mine and she was in need of a new boiler according to aj perri. They told her that the boiler casting was rusty and it was producing 3400 ppm carbon monoxide. They scared her into giving them a deposit for a $16,000.00 boiler job which was grossly overpriced! By the way did I mention that my customer is 92 years old. I told her to get your deposit back and I will test the boiler. Boiler running great with only 17ppm. Shame on you guys for trying to take advantage! read more

Scam Alert My husband scheduled an a/c and heating tune-up. During the appointment, the tech told me that the boiler wouldn't turn on because the pilot was out. Funny, it had been working a month before! He insinuated that I needed to replace the pilot assembly in order to get the pilot lit and that unless I made this repair, I would not have a working boiler for the winter. Oh, and by the way the boiler is so old that he wasn't sure he would be able to find a replacement part for it and even if he could it would be so expensive...and because the boiler is so old it probably makes more sense to replace the entire unit. Lucky for me, he could have someone come out and give me a an estimate to have the boiler replaced and he had someone on his cell phone waiting to schedule that appointment. We got the estimate for a new boiler, plus installation: more than $12,000 for a modest house. (Based on my research beforehand, I was expecting something more in the $4,000 range.) My husband and I took a deep breath and then he went down to the basement to look at the boiler. Ten minutes later he was upstairs after lighting the pilot and turning the heat on. So basically the tech told me that my boiler was broken to scare me into spending more than $10k. Not only that, but the heating "tune-up," which I paid quite a bit of money for, did not include something as basic as turning on a pilot light. read more

They charged me $185 for trip charges and AC service charges which was okay but why would they ask trip charges if already paying for service charge and it's hidden FYI. the service person who told it's just Air filter problem and he replaced that. Later I asked specifically if my AC won't work will you guys come and check with no service/trip charge. The guy who told me yes. I waited to see whether My AC will generate cool air but no luck. I called AJ perri support and they come up with 2 options. No.1 Capacitor replacement with No trip charges. No.2 if any other technician comes to my home i have to pay trip charges which is $89. I asked them why would i need to pay if the service is under warranty of 30 days. They are still coming up options which messed up my brain. Now i have to look other people. SO ANNOYING!! We have a maintenance contract with these guys, so we've had them in the house a few time. They are "good" I must say. I keep saying "last year" I won't renew, but they pull it off, they get the renewal. But this time its really the last year. Examples of some of my interaction: Maintenance 1: Furnace: "It draws a lot of current, your "Startup capacitor" is shot, you need a new one" pulls a binder full of bar code.. scans.." bang, "it will be $290, you're in luck I have one in the truck". I have the part in front of me.. pull my phone and google, $14 part that you basically plug back in, 2 min of labor!!! He comes back, I tell him about it, get all flustered, calls his boss, long conversation... I can't do it for less than $190 he tells me".. Maintenance 2: In the summer, really early by the way, still temperature in the 50s, opens the A/C.. same story, I'm ready, "bad relay", goes to the truck, google the relay part, part is $30, repair: $350. Also the A/C needs a recharge I'm told, low on Freon. I asked him to show me on his equipment, where it's low. Should have seen his face... like "oh boy, what am I going to show him", shows me a needle on a meter, tells me, it should be there, showing me a much higher point. Goes to truck, brings Freon and a scale. works for 5 min, then tells me ok, done. Then I ask him, show me the meter, this time, his face turns all weird, tells me "it's really cold today, so you can't really tell on the meter, but it took it!, 1lb and 1oz". Who knows if he overcharged my unit... Maintenance 3: In the middle of the inspection, he tells me your furnace looks like "crap", you really need to get a new one, no point even waxing this (they do wax your furnace part of the maintenance) New furnace will save a lot of money he says. Plus if you agree to get a call, my boss gives me extra time for the maintenance call".. what??? Did get a call, both spouses must be there, or they don't come, I have a feeling they want to close the deal, then and there. By the way they can change your hot water heater, real plain model Bradfort White, for $1980, oh but with your maintenance, it's 10% off, oh and I have one on the truck %5 less, with tax, $1624! (googled, $490 delivered at retail).. is there really $1,100 worth of labor, I don't know... All that to say, they seem to do the maintenance OK, and although I understand everyone is entitled to make a profit, asking me $290 to replace a $14 part when you are there already doing the maintenance, I don't know. If that's the kind of profit they expect, can only imagine what they ask for a new system. read more

Our experience with AJ Perri was extremely negative and unprofessional. DO NOT call AJ Perri to work on your problem; there are definitely companies in your area that are more knowledgeable, professional, and would do a comparable job more quickly and for a cheaper price. We needed our hot water heater to be replaced. When we called the company, they would not give us an estimate and said that they needed to see the issue to figure out how much it would cost. We should have known then that it would have been a huge issue-- why would a company that replaces hot water heaters on a regular basis be incapable of giving an estimate for the job? When the technician got here, it was equally unclear how much we would be paying for the job. He got to "work" without informing us that he was doing so or how much the whole job would cost. When we asked for an explicit estimate, he said that it would cost $2000 to replace the water heater-- which is about $1500 more than the average price of other companies to replace a water heater. We wanted to back out of this situation, but because he was already "halfway through his work," he told us that there was no cheaper alternative. We felt pretty trapped in this situation; just like other reviews have said, the company plays up its expertise, but in reality they are pretty manipulative. Don't make the same mistake that we did! I kindly asked him to leave my home because I knew he was either ripping me off or he was crazy. Well Mr. H. you nailed it but did some damage to your A.J.Perri with that comparison. In the last 10 years Hyundai rated much higher than Mercedes in quality and value for the money. While Mercedes has a fancy name and is expensive (just like A.J.Perri) it is known for having problems while Hyundai is just the opposite. read more

so, today we had the air conditioner inspection they owed us. The tech showed me the book: $310 to replace a capacitor. But, we are 'members' so we get 10% off! Plus we have a gift certificate for another $25 off. Wow! what a deal! Total just $ 283 Except that I can get the part for 10-20 dollars and it is easy to install. I even had a second estimate: $40 for the part and $125 for one hour of labor (minimum charge). So, Perri is 70% higher than the other estimate. I cry when I think about how much I must have overpaid these thieves for other work I had done. I don't want to know how much the thermocouple on my furnace really cost. They say they are sending e a refund for some of the overcharge on my boiler, but I have yet to see the check. I just don't understand how a 'family-owned business' can behave this way. Absolute thieves! I live with my disabled brother. He called me at work to inform me that there was no heat in the house. I scheduled a technician to come out. They said that I would be on the line for an $89 base fee - which is fine - and that I would be billed for any additional work. Long story short, it turned out that my brother had inadvertently switched off the gas to the furnace on his way upstairs. Obviously, no repairs were done. You'd think that I'd be on the line for just the $89, right? Nope. I was hit with an almost $300 "repair" bill. Do not use these ripoff artists!!!
