D-D-Dope sush freshhhh. I had heard about Aji for years now and I'm happy to have finally dined there. The atmosphere is modern and cool in here and seems like the perfect place to bring friends on a weekend, though the music would probably prevent me from having a date night here. My new thing is to grab the 'Sushi dinner for one' at most places and my order was no different here. I dunno, I think it's good way to test the waters at a place. Any who, I scooped up the Sushi Sashimi Patter ($23, 9 pieces of sashimi, 5 pieces of sushi, tuna avocado roll) and it was by far the best fish/rice I've had since I've been back on LI (yes, Vegas has better sushi than LI). Am I a sushi pro? No way. But everything I was served seemed silky smooth and melted in my mouth. I like my sushi when it tastes like butter. I sat at the bar, so I didn't get the full experience, but my bartender was helpful and didn't mind when I was in space watching college football. read more

I'm just gonna copy my review from the Bay Shore location: Nice atmosphere, trendy and great sushi. Ate here a few times and haven't been disappointed. Kani salad is the best I've had here. The fish here is fresh and love the decor. The american dream roll, valentine, and bay shore are great. Their sashimi is excellent as well. The only difference is this location is much more open and not as crowded and cramped as Bay Shore. For dessert PLEASE stray away from ordering their version of "TIramisu." It came out and my gf and I simultaneously exclaimed "WTF!" No cake, ladyfingers, espresso, just some other odd chocolate concoction. Better off with tempura ice cream. read more

I've been to aji53 several times and just love it. My daughter and I come to happy hour and have a wonderful drink- the bartender is great- and a few rolls. The special rolls are amazing - fire island, bay shore to name a few. I will always go back!!! read more

NYC comes to Smithtown in this Chic Modern Japanese Fusion Restaurant. The decor is that of a club showcasing both the Alcohol and Sushi Bar completely lit in blue. The place is completely decked out from entrance to bathroom. When ordering from their menu, it may take a while to make up your mind, there are several delicious options! The service was great both personable and eager to please. Finally, the food presentation is STUNNING. But I don't wanna ruin that for you, you should see it yourself! Sushi was ok. Service was kind of rushed, cold and rude- even though they were not busy. The lighting is harsh, like you are being interrogated with an overhead lamp. I probably won't go back as there are better places with a more relaxed atmosphere. read more

Absolutely love aji I order all the time! Tina carpaccio is amazing and the snow flake roll is my go to roll. Last night however I ordered my usual and there was bones in my sushi roll this has NEVER happened before and I'm hoping never happens again however, I'm not sure if I'll still get the snowflake the bones really freaked me out. I do like the food here but the service is pretty terrible. Came here on a Saturday night with a bunch of friends one night and it really was a mess. We had a reservation in advance but when we all got there (at the reservation time) they weren't ready to seat us. We all had to wait at the bar for another 20 minutes and really considered leaving. We also had to repeatedly ask the waiter for things multiple times because they kept forgetting. We probably won't be back as all of the hassle was not worth it and we were late to our event after. read more

My first review has been erased. I guess this is why the place has little bad reviews. I've actually eaten here and this is what I think; If you want to walk into a sushi place, have cocktails, and see something resembling a club atmosphere then you've hit the jackpot. And you know how clubs usually mark up their alcohol, well this place marks up their sushi. Their sushi doesn't taste bad by any means. It's pretty yummy, but it's not worth the price. After hearing all about it from my coworker for the whole night last night (I work night shifts) I decided to come and try it out myself today; I wanted to see what my picky coworker described as the best sushi place/sushi ever really looks/tastes like. And now I have to say, man he is right! From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I felt the store is under fine operation; decoration/atmosphere/staff all make me feel very pleasant. I have been craving for salmon lately but I'm a terrible cook and it's especially tricky when it comes to seafood such as raw fish. Aji 53 definitely has the freshest fish to offer, so you don't have to worry that the food is not prepared right and get sick from it. Anyway me and my mom ordered two sashimi lunch special and a combo plate to share which includes beef negimaki, California roll(we added a dollar to switched to elm roll), and rock shrimp tempura(must try!) Everything is just so fresh from the look to texture to taste. After we finished lunch we ordered greentea mochi ice cream, which is the only thing I would not give a five star to. The outter part of mochi is supposed to be soft but they probably froze it and didn't let it defrost enough before serving. It was kinda pricy I would say that wasn't worth the price. But hey this is a sushi restaurant, everything about sushi is up to my standards. Give it a try! read more

Been here a couple times now-- twice for lunch and once for dinner. The garlic sea bass appetizer is exceptional for a place all the way out here, but none of the sushi really left an impression on me. And as most of the other reviews say, it is a bit pricey. If you're just craving sushi then I would recommend ordering from a cheaper place. read more

While I must admit, I am not the biggest fan of sushi, but this restaurant also has great food for people like me. Very nice selection of Japanese cuisine and very delightful food. Service was a little lacking the first time,but my second visit was much better and food quality stayed constantly good. Saw a lot of great reviews so I decided to stop in on my way home from work and picked up a spicy sushi roll and an order of gyoza. Unfortunately the sushi wasn't spicy at all and had a disgustingly sweet sauce on it, so only the gyoza was eaten. Not sure how a roll advertised as spicy turns out weirdly sweet, but this was a waste of money and I won't be back. read more

Hands down best, freshest sushi on Long Island. This is a rare find for us who live around here. I have tried a lot of their sushi and some of their Japanese hot items too. All are amazing. I usually find myself at the bar for happy hour Monday thru Thursday since its from 5-8. Select sushi rolls are $5 and all drinks are half price. Otherwise you tab can get pricey. It's also pretty loud on Friday and Saturday nights since they have loud club music. I suggest for a date to go during the week so you can actually talk to the other person. But with just friends out for some drinks, sushi and laughs best bet is at the end of the week. The crowd is is nice too and the staff are friendly. The first time I went to Aji was with my family. It was a disappointing experience, dark, loud, inattentive service. But about a year later I went back with my son and we sat at the sushi bar in the back. It was like night and day. The variety of fish and the knowledge and expertise of the sushi chef was comparable to the best west coast sushi restaurants. I've been back four or five times since and was delighted each time. Yes they have a lot of American style rolls dripping with fried things and sweet sauces but what makes this place stand out is the authentic preparation of the Japanese style sushi and sashimi. It is on the expensive side, but for the Omikase, sitting and talking with the chef I would give five stars, but for table service only two. For sushi mavens it's the best place around, though not for a date or casual family dinner. read more

I went here with my wife because we were in the the area and wanted to grab dinner prior to our long car ride home, and this place came highly recommended. The service was good and the food was alright. I'm not a sushi eater so I'm unable to comment on that, but I did have the chicken drunken noodles and they were only as good as you'd get at any other noodle place, only this was more expensive. This place was the go to sushi place in whole area but alas, like everything else, it too must end. Bartenders are amatuers, especially on Thursday nights. Tall brunette is terrible. Menu has been the same since inception basically and now is subpar. Nothing special at all. My guess would be that they won't be here much longer. Oh well, they definitely were good for awhile. Delicious sushi! Definitely glad I finally checked this place out. I always see such great reviews on yelp for this restaurant and never got the chance to try it until this weekend. Went here on a Saturday night with some friends. The restaurant is in a busy strip mall in Smithtown close to where all the main restaurants are. The place was PACKED! I was so happy I had made reservations because without them it would have been a while to get a table for 4. The place is also very loud- the music is upbeat but the level at which it is played is very clubbish- that was probably the only major negative for me personally. The decor is nice, the service is attentive- when our drinks took a while the server thanked us for our patience which I thought was very nice! The sushi was delicious, I must say! We ordered like 6 rolls and each of them was great. The fish tasted fresh as did the other ingredients. They have a variety here and overall I enjoyed the visit! Will definitely go back! read more

The food was excellent the only issue with the food was that they ran out of uni which they then suggested to try oysters instead which was excellent and they gave a small discount since they couldn't get me uni.
