As an expensive store, I expect quality customer service, but the cashier charged me twice on two (overpriced) items. When I went back in, I waited a long time for a manager, and the flower desk announced my waiting for him three times (it wasn't that busy in there), and when he finally arrived, he didn't really care about the extra charges or my time and inconvenience, he wasn't apologetic, so it makes me reluctant to shop there at all. I'm a fan of AJ's. Great fruit, vegetables and meats without question. My only complaint is that this location seems to be inundated with overprivelidged high school kids. And because of that, sometimes the service seems to match. I'm sure the employees are a bit teenager overdosed and that's why they might be a bit snappy, but the Arcadia location staff was always very knowledgeable and service oriented. Choice cuts are also available but I save a few dollars and go to the affiliated Bashas for choice beef. There is a small and unremarkable produce section. The corn aisles have an outstanding selection of premium dry goods and groceries mixed in with standard products available anywhere. Seek out the premium products in these aisles to add a unique flair at the dining table. A sushi chef is on duty at a small counter near the produce and seems the least busy area in the store. A well curated wine selection is attended by a knowledgeable employee offering tastings and recommendations at a small serving counter at the back of the store. Whiskies are also offered. The dessert case in the front of the store is very popular. Cue up to get service because there is almost always a line. I bought a "death by chocolate" 10 inch cake that was beautiful and rich. A thin slice with a little whipped cream really hit the spot. Purchase from the case to get the best offerings. Avoid the packaged baked sweets in the open kiosks as you wait in line for the good stuff. Prepared meals are a specialty and this place has a brisk lunch business. The tables on the patio near the front door are often filled with students from San Xavier HS. Family style dinners are available by order. Service is upscale and rarely am I asked if I found everything when I check out. The Bistro needs to be managed. Not managed better, managed. Everyone seems to do what they want. I stop in for lunch all the time, a good percentage of the time I leave and go elsewhere. Today was a good example. Nobody was in line, I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. I was told it would be 15-minutes. I asked, can I just get another sandwich. I was told it didn't matter, it'll take 15-minutes. Teach the people making pizzas, how to make them. Someone else needs to be in charge of the soups. sometimes their all some type of chicken soup. The dishes next to the pizzas are very often, not labeled. Watch the people making sandwiches. Once I was waiting and a couple of people were laughing at how slow the kid was. Since we can't have a big Thanksgiving this year I figured I would take the year off of cooking in order out. In the past we have tried fries and it was disgusting, that's my opinion. They made their stuff and you just reheat it when you're ready. We received the turkey breast and I don't know why I thought there would just be one there are actually three 3!! So there is plenty of turkey for everybody and then I will post pictures of what else I received if you're not gonna cook but you wanna order for a group don't be afraid to try AJs AJs If you're going to do a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner for Easter. I suggest ordering it very early if they have a lot of orders you have to pick a time slot and all the time slots fill up fast. I don't often browse grocery stores when on vacation, but we were staying in an Air BnB with a full kitchen and drove by several times before I just had to give in. If I lived locally, I would probably pop in monthly for unusual ingredients or to stock up on some of their nicer cheese or grab and go items (reminds me of Central Market or Trader Joes in some ways), but it wouldn't be my go-to grocery. PROS: +They have a bakery and coffee shop on site, open early. There's even an exterior ordering window to expedite if you're stopping en route to work. If you have time to linger, they have patio tables with umbrellas. + The grab and go items are conveniently located by the door, and surprisingly well-priced for lunch salads, sandwiches, wraps, etc. for workday lunches or hiking sustenance. Heat-at-home dinner items were less of a deal. + Saw signage for their Taco Tuesday deals, as well as some in-store events featuring different products and brands. + The butcher counter, particularly the seafood area, is extremely well stocked with many cuts and preseasoned options. + Similarly, there were several vegan items and specialty-diet options (keto and sugar-free snacks, etc.) throughout the store. They were easy to find and well-labeled. + FREE WIFI. So handy when you can't remember what last ingredient you needed for the meal you're making, or you find something cool on a shelf and want to know what you can really use it for. Or how to pick the ripest (insert produce here). I appreciate this. CONS: - Service seems to be an ongoing issue based on other reviews. Several people on a morning bakery visit seemed to be regulars, yet exchanges with staff seemed strained. Lines moved quickly but staff seemed annoyed. - Stocking up on "regular" items here would be quite pricey. I would avoid by the basics here since you will find better prices at the national chains. The bakery here is excellent along with all of the other departments that are full service. The staff here is friendly, outgoing and welcoming. The shopping center is really cool offering all types of stores that you will appreciate. I found this place because I was in the search of a Turducken (a deboned chicken wrapped in a deboned duck wrapped in a deboned turkey and stuffed with OHMAZING stuffing depending on your taste). It continues to get worse and worse. They burn your latte every time, and now they have removed made to order burritos. When I asked for one they directed me to the pre-made options and when I mentioned that they all have meat and my wife and I do not eat meat, the response I got was if "I make one for you I have to make them for everybody." Oy vey, this place. I've been shopping here for almost 11years because I live in the neighborhood. There has always been rude service, especially from the folks behind the prepared foods area. Today is the last time I shop here. We ordered hot sandwiches, each $10 and the woman was not only rude but she made them as cold sandwiches and finished her service rudely. I'm so tired of the staff here and really the overall culture that is clearly us vs. them. I get we're all tired and over this whole pandemic and I wish I could chalk up to just a bad Covid day.
