Very competent and profession people, just a little pricey. I called these guys to fix a problem that another company created. A previous contractor had broken some of the PVC pipes that came out of my sprinkler system and they "fixed" them. Unfortunately they did not fix them correctly. I only found out after I made some changes to my irrigation system. I needed AJS to revise the PVC pipes coming out of two valves in my system so that one pipe went to my backyard and two pipes went to two areas in my front yard. Because there are a lot of pipes in a small area I wanted someone else to do it. So I called AJS. It was easy to make an appt. The 3-person crew showed up within the 2 hour window. I appreciated the foreman's concern about making sure it was clear exactly what needed to be done before they started the work. After two hours they completed the work and I am very happy with the results. They were clearly more concerned about getting the job done right rather than getting it done quickly. My only complaint is about the cost: $515 for two hours of work and parts (a few PVC parts). They have a set schedule for work, and treated this as two broken pipes, plus an hourly labor cost and parts. In the end it seemed significantly higher than I expected. I would consider using them again, but would like to get a better idea of the cost before starting the work. FYI, they charge a minimum of $115 for a service call, which is reasonable. read more

AJS Sprinkler was more expensive than other companies I received quotes from but I decided to go with them based on the reviews about the quality of work and their customer service. Unfortunately, they failed to meet my expectations and this was doubly disappointing given that they are higher priced than their competition. My sprinkler system had many broken heads and hadn't been checked for a few years. Water was also not coming out of one set of sprinklers. So I decided to use AJS to update the broken sprinkler heads and conduct a general check-up. After their initial visit, they found a faulty valve which they fixed. They also replaced all the broken heads and the system seemed to be working fine. However, only three months later, I came home one evening to find half my yard flooded and the sprinklers flowing uncontrollably. It was 630PM and I immediately called AJS. I could not reach anyone in any of their offices (if you engage them you'll find extreme reluctance to provide a direct phone number to a human). I searched my invoice and past emails desperately but could not find any way to reach a human. My house also did not have an obvious shut-off valve that my neighbors or I could find, adding to my stress. I sent emails and left messages, but in the end, had to let the sprinklers flow all night. This killed me given California's recent water shortages. The next morning, AJS called me back and apologized for the situation, but defended not providing me any recourse in an emergency situation. Gayle - the person that called me - said that if she was reachable after close of business, she wouldn't have work/life balance. I do respect that, but I would expect a company with this reputation and at this price point to at least have an answering service or some way for customers to triage after-hours emergencies. I proceeded to ask her about the issue and she sent someone out to diagnose the problem. Not right away of course - because her teams had jobs they had to conduct that day - but at the end of the day! Once again, at this price point, I was unpleasantly surprised by their priorities. Finally, when the person came out and inspected the system, I was told this was an issue with one of the valves AJS hadn't hadn't touched - and not with the two valves they had fixed. I found that surprising given the sprinkler system hadn't leaked for years before this and then had a massive leak only 3 months after they came out to fix it. Of course, one area where they were very proactive was when it came to providing me the estimate for "fixing the faulty valve." Does the story end there? No. On that same call, I asked Gayle to help me identify where the shutoff valve was in case something like this were to happen again. She confidently told me that the house did not have one and provided me with yet another expensive estimate to have one installed. At this point, I had lost trust in them and asked a contractor that had done previous work for me about the shut-off valve. He came out and showed me where I could shut off the water from - it wasn't attached to the house but was found in the ground. Once again, I would have expected AJS - with their years of experience working with sprinkler systems - to point that out to me. The same contractor also told me that the previous leak was from one of the "newer" valves. He had no idea I had used AJS - leading me to conclude that Gayle and AJS had lazily decided to take the path of least liability on the root cause of the leak so that they wouldn't have to cover the cost of additional work to fix an issue they created. Though he's not a sprinkler contractor, I trust my contractor's motives - and therefore opinion - over those of AJS. He didn't charge me a dime for coming out to help me with my issue. In the end, my experience with AJS led me to the following conclusions: - their quality of work does not warrant the price they charge; - they will not be there for customers in emergency situations (consistent theme with the earlier yelp reviews); - they are not thorough or forthcoming with their diagnoses and will shift blame to owners or other parties to avoid responsible follow-up to their mistakes. I would avoid using this company mainly because they are not trustworthy and egregiously prioritize profit over customer service. I also know from distressing personal experience that they will not be there for you should something go wrong. read more

I Highly recommend AJS Sprinkler! I called for a non-urgent repair, but since they happened to have a few folks working in the area, they were able to fit me in same day (one of the benefits of WFH is always being available!). They wore masks, were friendly, knowledgeable, incredibly efficient, professional, and fixed my problem, along with 2 additional small leaks I did not know I had, for far less $ than I thought, in far less time than I thought. Once the problem was diagnosed, they gave me an accurate estimate on the spot. They were even able to reprogram my dinosaur of a sprinkler timer that I could not figure out, and suggested ways to improve my water conservation and reduce my water bill. 10/10 would recommend. The woman who helped me with scheduling, Gail, was also very friendly, professional, helpful, and took the time to listen to my ridiculous story below. Backstory: My sprinkler timer stopped working at some point. The timer is so old, it does not have an available user manual online (!). We had been turning it on and off manually, and ran it at night after folks were inside b/c that was the old programmed time. The first time I said "don't worry about it - I'll go turn the sprinkler off", I broke off what I thought was a valve (it wasn't). Holy moly did I unleash a flood of water. I turned off the water for the house, but the sprinkler stayed on, and water was shooting out of a little hole directly into my face/ eyeballs with some serious force. My partner and I went back and forth, but we absolutely could not get this little piece back into place. It was super dark and my little flashlight was not helpful! I tried to turn off the water main at the sidewalk but couldn't get it to budge without a t-bar. I tried calling emergency plumbers and had resigned myself to spending a fortune for this &*^% mistake (most did not answer their phone, or call back). After what felt like hours, but was probably ~45 minutes, I was able to screw this little cross-threaded piece back in enough to be able to it turn it the rest of the way with a pair of channel locks. My partner and I were COMPLETELY DRENCHED from head to toe but could finally see that there was a water shutoff valve just for that one sprinkler of underneath something else in this weird little box that housed the pipes for the sprinkler (why TF would someone do that). I am a city person new to the suburbs, and a complete rube. When asked how often I wanted to water, I didn't have an answer because I haven't ever had a real garden or a sprinkler system. It was glaringly obvious that I had no idea WTF I was doing, and the repair professionals from AJS could have very easily taken advantage of this. I am such a cynic - I fully expected one of them to tell me I needed more than I did, because I would not have known the difference, but they 100% did not do that. They replaced the part I needed and that part only, helpfully tightened a few things that had a small leak, and talked me through the timer stuff, including switching to watering in the early morning. read more

I increased my rating, mainly since the company called me and discussed my case after seeing my yelp review. I think it is only fair to recognize that they did call me and obviously do care about customer service. They also offered to come and check out the issue I am having. Their response to not answering calls during that time were also justified in my opinion. my only objection is that the 3 sprinkler heads were working fine before they came; (they were turning on and opening); these 3 heads were constantly leaking; which they serviced; as they were leaving, I believe they knew there was a problem since as they were testing , one sprinkler head completely popped off; they quickly replaced that one but did not check the others as they were in hurry to leave. Now all three are not turning on and opening (this is a new problem that I did not have before they came); these are directly related to sprinklers they serviced and repaired. Bottom line is that instead of 3 leaking sprinklers, i have 3 non functioning sprinklers. I have no problems with someone using AJS sprinkler as long as you clearly check to make sure the sprinklers are working after the work is done; that was my main problem, I didn't check until after they left; ( of course they were already in the truck leaving as they had me sign the paper work); also not answering their calls was hopefully resolved issue at this point I hopefully represented my experience in a nonemotional , fair way read more

These guys are pros - I had a broken sprinkler head and irrigation tube that needed fixing. Called them last Friday and they came on Tuesday (mon was holiday) bright and early. They even offered to fix it while I wasn't home which was super helpful for working folks. I used AJS last year for a problem three other people could not fix. They found the buried control valve a foot below ground level and then determined the flow was hindered due to a root in the pipe which they fixed. The sprinklers worked better than ever. We recently moved this year to a new house that did not have a functioning sprinkler system. Based on my prior experience I did not hesitate to call AJS. Steve and Kenny came out and reviewed the situation and made their recommendations. With very low water pressure in the back yard, they installed a front and backyard system to account for the water pressure. They showed up on time, worked two full days, and installed a system that is working flawlessly. The total cost matched their estimate. They were careful in cutting up the yard so the grass would look good after they finished. They explained all the controls, and set the sprinkler heads where they would give excellent coverage. We called these guys to get an estimate on getting our sprinklers back up and working after letting our lawn die during drought. Kenny and three of his guys spent a few hours testing everything and placing colored flags. They told me what they recommended and showed me where the problems were and what areas were working just fine. Apparently tree roots were strangling some important valves. They came back at the agreed time to do battle with the tree roots and installed everything while I was at work. They showed me everything working and the programs the sprinklers were on when I came back. A week later a few sprinkler heads looked like they were sputtering, trying to come up. My cocker spaniel attacked this strange creature and got very muddy. We called them to come back to have a look. They called around 7:30 pm to say they were running late, but would still come. They turned up and did a bit of trouble-shooting and determined the controller was faulty. They kindly agreed to install a new one for us. No good deed goes unpunished. There were electrical issues, yada yada yada. Two hours later, we have everything working. These three guys have had an incredibly long day of wrestling with roots in the sun, they must be hungry, but they stayed positive and determined to get the job done. Awesome customer service! Gail helped me out over the phone figuring out valves when one sprinkler zone went on accidentally and would not turn off. Kenny then came out to our house and diagnosed the problem with irrigation switch board and reconfigured the irrigation systems very quickly. Steve Loe arrived on time and provided a detailed appraisal for the work and ensured the work would be done on time and to our complete satisfaction. He and the crew took only two days for this project. They worked long hours through the hot Roseville sun, even into the late evening to get the job done. I had one circuit with very old sprinkler heads that would just barely pop up. I also recently had my water meter and main supply line replaced. The main competitor (who I had worked with a few years ago) scheduled an appointment about three weeks out. AJS was able to come much quicker. With AJS's good reviews, I decided to give them a try. With the clues that the water supply line had been replaced recently, Kenny (and then Steve) set out debugging my issue. They checked the pressure and flow on all the hose bibs and then they very quickly narrowed in on the valve at the water meter. Apparently, when the main supply line was replaced, the valve at the water meter was not turned on completely afterwards. Kenny and Steve saw this, twisted the valve to be completely on, checked that the sprinkler heads of the offending circuit popped up, and they were on their way with just a charge for a service call. I highly recommend AJS. Besides knowing what they are doing, they are also very friendly. I am most likely going to switch to drought-tolerant landscaping and drip lines in the fall, and I will definitely call AJS to help me with the conversion. read more

Called AJS to repair a few busted lawn sprinkler heads and generally give my system a tune-up - was not getting good coverage. They arrived 30 minutes early and were done within an hour - quickly found the problem with the leaking heads and improved the coverage, and replaced about a dozen heads on the back lawn and have much better coverage now. Fee seemed very reasonable considering the parts cost and an hour's work for two technicians. read more

So glad I found AJS Sprinkler. I had a very confusing situation where some existing drip irrigation had stopped working and the problem was not at all easy to figure out. Steve did a great job tracking down the problem and was able to fix it on the spot. They also were able to replace my lawn sprinkler heads to compensate for low water pressure and give better overall coverage. They were on time, very pleasant and carefully explained what they figured out so we'd know what to look for in the future. I scheduled an appt for a bid and when Steve came to my house he asked me what my other bids were? At the time I only had three bids and I told him each one. He said "don't be surprised if my bid is more." He never said he wasn't interested in doing the job for me. Before he left, he said he would email me the bid. Needless to say, it has been 1 month and I have never received the bid. I called the office twice, spoke to Gail, and she said Steve ASSUMED I wouldn't be interested because I had other bids that were much lower. I explained to Gail that I never said that, I wanted the bid in writing, then I would decide on which one I would choose after reviewing all bids. All I can figure is Steve wasn't interested in the job, but he could have had the decency to say he wasn't interested instead of keeping me waiting for a bid he had no intention of doing.
