Peninsula is quite expensive, you can find lawyers at a lower rate. Be sure to get a written quote before they start, but it is typical that the actual cost will be a lot higher. They will come up with excuses why it cost more. Also, be sure to confirm the pricing for parts. They will try to charge you more money for the parts. Lastly, they say they are 100% quality, but my experience was it was just average quality. They needed to come back due to the poor quality. read more

As a follow up from my comments about being charged $9k for work without being given a quote, last Sunday the PVC water inlet to my sprinklers that they replaced failed due to faulty installation and the water ran all night before i could figure out what was going on. I called Peninsula Irrigation twice to ask them to come repair it and they decided to ignore me. So i'll take a video of the garden before the rupture and after the plants all die and then we'll see each other in small claims court. I really don't know what is going on over there. read more

Brady and the rest of the team at Peninsula Irrigation are simply amazing. They did a beautiful job designing a system that is right-sized for my yard, and completed the work with attention to detail. Pipes were painted to match the surfaces they ran over, and trenches were dug and filled such that you couldn't tell they had even been there. Each zone was properly outfitted to support the plants both existing and future, that we had discussed during the initial site visit. When hot weather caused unexpected issues with joints in the system, they came out and repaired the system under warranty, no questions asked! Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. Fabulous company! I was referred to them from NextDoor and from my first call I knew they were good. I called and left a voicemail. Robert returned my call within 24 hrs. I explained what my issue was and he assured me they could help. He explained that they were pretty booked but that he could squeeze me in next Tuesday. The next day I received an email that they had a cancelation for today (Saturday) so I grabbed it. I then promptly received an email confirming my appt and what their fees were. Today, they showed up and I explained my issue. Well, I'm embarrassed to say, it was user error. However, since I was being charged for an hour of time, they went throughout my property, ran various tests on my sprinkler system, checked everything including valves etc and gave a clean bill of health. What they ended up doing today was their bi-annual service that they offer. I will be having them back in fall/winter to do another service check. I highly recommend Peninsula Irrigation. read more

I had another subcontracted landscaper begin to set up my yard irrigation tubing in preparation for a backyard design of up to 7 beds. For some reason, he dug a hole, put in some tubing that was extended way too far from the house - where the shrubs would naturally go - then disappeared. With the misplaced tubing, there was no way to actually plant the garden and left me stranded. Robert with Peninsula Irrigation came to save the day and moved all as needed correctly so I could move forward with the design and planting! Should have gone with him from the start! read more

I did not work with them because I felt their fees were prohibitive for the size of my project. However, they were not unique in that respect. All the irrigation companies were in the same ballpark as what they wanted to charge. We are currently facing the highest rate of inflation in 40 years which is going to be followed by a deep and long recession. However, despite this reality, they all want to charge $75-$100 per hour for labor rates. I am not willing to pay those rates to dig a ditch and glue the plastic pipe together. read more

TL;DR - Horrible and expensive. Here's the deal, hour #1 of visit #1 is *really expensive* (like working with a lawyer expensive), then after that every hour is reduced to just *expensive*. They bill in 5 minute increments from the time the van pulls up to the time it goes away. So when the tech answers a phone call, forgets a tool, or make a wrong turn, it's on your dime. In my case, they left me with a faulty repair / home water feature. I called twice at 3:30pm and they didn't get back to me until the next day. Had to turn the water off to the house and I'm not sure how many gallons of water was wasted. What did I get in return? An overbilled invoice and an apology. In fairness, the tech was a nice guy but I don't think Peninsula Irrigation (the company) did me right. I will never use their service again. read more

Peninsula Irrigation is the type of service provider I wish all vendors were -- responsive, reasonable, professional -- a community-minded business that wants to build a long term relationship. Recently, on an early Saturday morning, I learned my PVC garden pipe had burst overnight. I cringed to find a "geyser" and baby swimming pool in my backyard. Thankfully, handy neighbors provided a temporary fix. I then began contacting a myriad of plumbers. Guy Plumbing did not provide the services I needed, however, they provided a number of referrals. Peninsula Irrigation was one of them. From the outset, the company was responsive. Robert Porterfield contacted me via email asking to speak to obtain additional information. He then called at the scheduled time -- a rarity. Robert was unbelievably friendly and very helpful. He re-prioritized his service worker's schedule to meet my urgent need. Learning I had lost my position due to COVID 19, he offered a flexible payment plan. I was stunned. In this time of angst, here was an act of random kindness. Every interaction with Peninsula Irrigation was remarkable! From the email I received when the technician was fifteen minutes out and the technician's early arrival, to his patient education of what he was doing to resolve the issue and his clean-up of the area where he had worked. These guys are good at fixing problems but they charge a lot ( more than a high-priced lawyer or doctor for a sprinkler technician!!). And they often send two guys so you pay twice as much for someone who spends most the time watching the lead guy and fetching and carrying. They act like it is a minor job until you see the bill and the hours that they racked up and the owner refuses to reduce the amount. They tell me that the technicians don't get a commission but I doubt that. So I recommend that people only use them in emergencies- in that situation, you don't mind paying the high prices. But avoid them for adjustment and installation ( $ 1000s for laying drip irrigation in a small yard!). And to add insult to injury, the 12-month warranty has a lot of caveats that you only discover after they return and do work that should have been covered by the so-called warranty. read more

This review is long overdue! We needed to replace our above ground sprinkler system with drip. Sounds easy, but after interviewing 3 other gardeners/irrigation "experts" it seemed like a very big and complex job for our yard. Until Nate - he was extremely knowledgable, came up with solutions other folks missed, and was thoughtful, professional and a pleasure to work with. Their prices were middle of the road compared to the other estimates, but the quality of the work and the expertise were head and shoulders above the rest! The job was scheduled, and the crew completed it within 2 days of working full days. The crew was EXCELLENT - again very knowledgeable, thoughtful and experienced. Had been working for the company for 10+ years! Nate then scheduled another walk-through a week or so after the work was completed, where he made sure everything was done correctly, adjusted our sprinkler timer, and explained in detail everything that was done, how to best take care of it, etc. Truly excellent customer service, excellent work, great professionalism. Cant say enough great things! The only con - in they summer months they can get very busy and need to schedule several weeks out. So if you can, get your sprinkler work done during the low season in Nov-Feb! They usually offer specials during that time! It's been about 5 months and our sprinklers are working perfectly, and we are saving close to $60/month in water costs! What's not to love?! read more

How in the hell does this company not have any reviews? They are just amazing!! As I write this review, I am listening to the wonderful sound of my sprinklers watering my lawn. Who knew that sound would make my heart beat so happily? Here is my tale of woe and happiness: We received a letter from our water dept informing us that they believed we had a leak, 2 weeks later our water bill came and it was a whopping $600.00!! After walking around our property, my wonderful husband opened the lid to the Christy Box and saw that it was flooded. If you don't know, a "Christy box" is a sunken container that is open on the bottom and has a removable cover on top. You probably have one or two in the front yard of your house where the sewer connection is or the water meter. I called 1 Gardener company and 1 Landscaping company. Both companies said that I needed to replace the above ground water pipe and the underground PVC piping located in the Christy Box. Also said I needed a new timer because the sprinklers in my front yard weren't working anymore. The quotes from both companies ranged from $600.00 to $1,300.00 for 5 hours and 3 guys to fix everything. I called Peninsula Irrigation based on a recommendation. I searched for them (and any reviews) on Yelp and was a bit disheartened when I saw there were no reviews listed. I took a leap of faith, called them anyway and arranged for them to meet me at my home. I was given a 30 minute window in which they would show up. Robert and Carlos showed up in that 30 minute window. 45 minutes and $120.00 later everything was fixed! Robert and Carlos pumped the water out of the Christy Box. It turned out we didn't need new pipes after all, the current pipes were fine, just certain sections needed to be tightened. Then they went over to the water meter and confirmed the leak had stopped. Robert was kind enough to teach me how to read water meters and taught me to look at the white triangle thats in the middle of the meter which will show you if you have a leak or not. Next, they found the reason why the front lawns weren't being watered. Had nothing to do with the timer, the real culprit was the wire cap that was originally used to connect the sprinkler wires. The original Gardener/Landscaper who installed the irrigation system 3 years ago did not use a waterproof wire cap (doh!) and the wires had gotten wet which caused the wires to short. Robert and Carlos replaced the wire cap with a waterproof wire cap and Voila! the sprinklers in my front yard was working again. Wow! Just Wow! I *highly* recommend Peninsula Irrigation. They saved my husband and I a lot of money, a lot of stress and a lot of time. They exceeded my expectations and I am honored to give them their first review. Bottom Line: I will recommend Peninsula Irrigation to anyone who needs their sprinkler system repaired or installed. I may even hire them to be our permanent gardeners. read more

I'm not sure what happened. I had them back out here to give us a quote on checking irrigation and running addition lines to our garden beds. I received a quote for over $3k. Other quotes I have received were in the $1k range. I'm not sure if they sent out a junior guy to do the quote or if they have gotten too popular that they can charge outrageous prices. Where is the sixth star on those rare occasions when you need one? If it showed up, Peninsula Irrigation would deserve it. Here's why. We're in the process (an understatement) of selling our house in Palo Alto and moving to Arizona. Just when we thought everything was ready, and six days before our first open-house, my wife said, "What's that noise? It sounds like the sprinklers are on." They weren't, but the manifold (think four valves together with associated pipes, all being fed by the water line) had sprung a serious leak and part of our back yard was flooding. Praise the Lord, as the preacher would say, that we were home. I shut off the water, got on line, and started looking for a solution. My wife said, "Did you figure out how to fix it?" And I said, "Yes, I'm going to call these people." And call I did, right then at about 6 p.m., and instead of getting voice mail I got an answering service, kind of like a doctor would have, with a live person. Even though I had said "this isn't an emergency," when I didn't get a call by 10 a.m. I called again. Within about 15 minutes I got a call from Nate, who is apparently one of the leaders of this small band of professionals. I described the problem and then asked if I could text him a picture of the manifold. He said that would be great (gotta love a company that takes advantage of technology), he looked at it, called me back, and said, "We can fix it, but we should probably replace the whole thing." I told him that's what I wanted, because we were selling the house and I wanted the new owners (whoever they will be) to have a perfect system, not a band-aid. He said they couldn't get to the house until Friday, and I said that'd be OK but that Sunday was going to be a big day. At 7:15 that evening Nate called me back and said he had made some changes in the schedule and had one cancellation, and he'd have someone there the next day at 2 p.m., if that was OK. Wow! I could write separate, glowing reviews of the work David did that Tuesday afternoon -- the man is an artist with pipe -- and on the finish work that Robert did on that Friday and the advice and help (and fixes) he made on our actual sprinkler system. He also replaced a valve for our front yard system, using a valve I had purchased earlier with the intent of borrowing some tools and installing it myself. That was an incredible bit of customer service that speaks volumes in itself. I've already recommended this company to everyone I talk to, even if they don't have a yard, and our Realtor is excited about finding a company in the area that is reliable, professional, and great to work with. Sprinklers/irrigation is something a lot of folks can do themselves, with a little pluck and twenty or so trips to Home Depot. Or you could just make one phone call to Peninsula Irrigation and have everything done perfectly and with a great attitude. Having tried both, I highly recommend the latter. read more

While he arrived a little late he called in advance to let me know. He was knowledgable and professional. I have done my own irrigation work previously but just don't have the time anymore. It's hard to find a company to do this right at a fair price but we did. Peninsula Irrigation is excellent! The work was tidy and top notch, and the final invoice was so detailed that I could actually see what the charges were for. This is such a rarity nowadays and is so greatly appreciated. It took several weeks between the first and second visit to get the job completed but it's not their fault they are busy! I would not hesitate to recommend Peninsula Irrigation for your irrigation needs. They did a complete repair and overhaul of the drip system we inherited when we bought our house, including fixing broken pipes and adding onto the system. We discussed creative solutions for our planter beds and our lead tech, Junior, took time to explain our options. I can't speak to their work, but I can report that it took them over SIX WEEKS to get an estimate to me after a site visit and only after I emailed them to ask about why I still hadn't heard anything. Ours was a simple straightforward job that could have been turned around quickly. No reason why it took that long to hear back. I had a problem which no one could diagnose. Water was leaking all over my yard -- Josh diagnosed that it was actually due to a timing problem on a drip system on a circuit of the sprinkler system no one knew was even activated..... we just knew our water bill was too high for over two years, and given that our meter appeared to be working fine..... so, for over two years we went to other irrigation companies, plumbers, and guys that crawl in the crawl space looking for leaks, the city, even had the water supplier come out and check the connects in and out of the property (BTW, they missed the leak when they looked for it, but assured us that our water meter wasn't running too fast). It took Peninsula irrigation a couple of hours, but they figured out that a very small leak in our irrigation system, basically a very slow and steady drip was causing the problem....and it was fixed within a day So now, I just call them every spring and they come out and do a full check up. We just bought a house with bigger lot and a more complicated sprinkler system. Peninsula irrigation is scheduled to come in a couple of days as the drip system just isn't working right in the new house since the rains stopped a couple weeks ago. So I called them again. My only complaint about Peninsula irrigation is that they do get really busy -- it's difficult to schedule as a new customer as my appointment was scheduled two weeks ago. Oh, and their office is sometimes days late in answering, calls, too. So they get four stars instead of five. read more

They were very professional--answering their phone promptly, making an appointment for the next day, and sending out a true expert on irrigation, Junior Martinez. We needed our 12+-year old residential irrigation system evaluated and repaired. Sprinkler heads were missing and misaligned, and our lawn and plantings were showing it! Impressed with Peninsula Irrigation's Yelp rating, we called them to do the work and it was great and fairly priced. In less than two hours, Robert evaluated the system, found and fixed a valve leak, repaired and aligned the sprinkler heads, and discovered that one zone wasn't watering properly because of too-narrow piping coming into the irrigation system. His recommended fix was so much cheaper than re-piping: install lower flow heads in the weak watering zone. Unf. he didn't have them on the truck but the Company arranged for another visit two days later. Josh, an equally expert tech, installed the low-flow heads quickly and again ensured that all the zones were working. We now have the lawn, plants and trees watered, rather than the sidewalk and our porch! Our only regret was that we didn't know of Peninsula Irrigation when we first installed our system. I had to wait about a week for an appointment, but it was worth it. Our system is about 12 years old..One recent water bill showed us using 2100 cf of water in a month! Carlos came and diagnosed our excessive sprinkler usage as cycling of the controller: it was running four times in a row. He confirmed my drip lines were all getting water pressure (no leaks) and installed new sprayers into two flower beds that were being under-watered. Altogether it took an hour and will be paid for by one month of savings on the water bill. These are my new go-to guys for the sprinkler system. read more

This company does great work. I had to run a separate water line from the front of my home all the way to the opposite back corner of my house to hook up to my sprinkler system. It was very clearly outlined to me the work required and what they would do. They were on time and completed the work as to spec. Everything was cleaned up and looked brand new. It works perfectly. Their pricing is a little on the high end but you can rest assured that you will have zero problems and that that the work will be completed right the first time. Peninsula Irrigation can do more than just sprinklers! I originally called Peninsula Irrigation to just get a quote to install a irrigation system in my front yard. I was doing a major landscaping project and wanted to compare quotes for the irrigation work. I also needed to have the main water line to the house relocated due to the construction of the retaining walls. While reviewing the scope of work for the irrigation system, the estimator, Nate also told me that Peninsula Irrigation are licensed plumbers and they can also work on water mains. At first I was skeptical to use such a company, but after my interactions with Nate and the time he took to answer all my questions, I felt very confident that they were more than qualified. They first came out to my house and put in a temporary line during the excavation. Then after the construction was complete, they came back and permanently rerouted the main water line to accommodate the new retaining walls. In addition they upgraded my water line to 1". I am so happy I selected them to work on my project.... 1. From the initial visit for the estimate to the final inspection by the city, they arrived exactly on schedule, every time. 2. They are extremely responsive in terms of the emails and phone calls I left to ask questions. 3. The master plumber, Robert was very professional and extremely courteous to my wife. He even made sure he wiped his feet and checked his shoes before entering the house. 4. Robert did an excellent job and he paid attention to the smallest of details. 5. They were flexible in working around my landscaper's work schedule. 6. Their price was competitive. 7. I called Peninsula Irrigation after reading all the great reviews. Honestly I thought the ratings too good to be true, BUT i was wrong. They deserve every star they have and more. With some new landscaping work done on my front yard, my old irrigation system was not performing as expected, drip irrigation sprinklers that were in place would just stop working. My landscape designer had her guys flush out the pipes, clean everything and it would work for two days but stop soon after. She finally told me the pipe had too many turns and twists and the whole system would have to be replaced. I decided to wait to figure it out and boy am i glad I waited! Nate from Peninsula came by for an estimate and within 5 minutes diagnosed the issue. A sprinkler system when converted to a drip system will run into this issue at some point. He recommended box filters at the valve. Easy to clean once a year. Of course I researched his solution and found it to be right on, had him install 3 box filters, one in the problem area and two in my new landscaping at the back to circumvent future issues and costs. Nate came at the appointed time and in a short hour the work was done! Its been 3 months now and the whole system is working FLAWLESSLY!!! Highly recommend them, and specially Nate. read more
