The experience was okay. The restaurant is gorgeous. Beautifully decorated. I was seated immediately but despite telling the hostess I was there for happy hour I did not receive the menu. I had to wait almost 10 minutes before a server brought it. I ordered the rock shrimp which was amazing and the waygu grilled wontons, which were a massive disappointment. The rock shrimp happy hour item came with over 10 very tasty rock shrimp. The wontons came with a whoppping 3. They were overcooked and fell apart, despite this they had ZERO crunch. Almost no flavor at all. I would come back for the shrimp but not the service or the wontons.

Such a fun spot to dine in and vibe to great music! Love the intimate atmosphere AKA offers and our Waiter, Cru was amazing. Loved the cocktail menu options and of course approved of their espresso martini. The potstickers were one of the best I've ever had- literally melt in your mouth! I also enjoyed my sushi roll as well. The dessert was so delicious we ordered creme brûlée and ended up with a free dessert/celebration which was so fun, as we were celebrating my friend's b-day! Would definitely recommend a visit!

What a fun club!! You can hear the music from the street, which instantly pulled us in. It was even more surprising when we found out there was no cover charge, say what?! Once inside, the place was impressive. The vibe is super Instagram-worthy, and the atmosphere was all about having a great time. The music was poppin' all night. I would definitely come back! From what I've read in other reviews, it looks like they also offer dinner here, which makes me even more curious to return. Drinks are reasonable so over all great first time here!

We were staying in the gaslamp area were looking for a fun spot to eat. I'm glad I chose this spot for a Friday night. It was so lively, beautifully and aesthetically decorated, and fun! It definitely was a place to go for celebrations because there were a few tables that got attention with lights and drinks which was pretty fun to watch. They have music going on in the background which adds to the vibe. The lighting is great. As soon as you walk in you see a lit up statue. Every so often a drummer comes out and drums to the beat of the music, which is pretty fun to be a part of. Our server was great and attentive. She was very helpful with answering any questions we had. We ordered the salmon skin salad, which was a unique flavorful taste. The saltiness from the salmon complemented the salad. Order two sushi rolls, which I can't remember what they were But they were both really good. I also ordered PadThai... It was definitely plenty for two people. So we ended up taking left over Pad Thai, which we normally don't. I will say it was amazing the next day too! We ordered two Sopporos and 2 sake to make sake bombs. I'd recommend doing 1 sake, and two Sopporos next time. Overall, we had a great experience, great service, great food, and great nights. I will definitely go again.

Food: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 We happened to stumble upon AKA Restaurant in on a fairly quiet weeknight. We didn't have reservations but were seated promptly, which was a great start to the evening. What first caught our eye was the super creative décor. There's a large statue in the middle of the room that really makes a statement, and inside the red, dark lighting gives the space a really cool, moody vibe. It feels a little sultry and dramatic, but still lively and fun at the same time. We were seated quickly and helped quickly. We ordered several items to share: the lamb chops, mango yellowtail sushi, salmon skin salad, and the lobster garlic noodles. For drinks, we tried an ube cocktail (forgot the name) and the lychee martini. The cocktails came out aesthetically beautiful and were also delicious and refreshing. We really enjoyed them. The food arrived pretty fast and not only looked gorgeous, but tasted just as good. I especially loved the lobster garlic noodles and the lamb chops. Both were super flavorful and satisfying. The mango yellowtail sushi was good, but not my favorite of the night. The true star of the show was the salmon skin salad. The salmon skin was fried perfectly, light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. It was honestly the best salmon skin salad I've ever had. Overall, the ambiance is really neat. It's dark and moody, but still has an energetic vibe. I highly recommend this spot for a date night, a girls' night out, or just a fun evening downtown. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was on point. I'd love to come back later in the evening when it transitions more into a club/lounge vibe. It looks like it would be such a good time. Highly recommend for good food, good vibes, good service, and an overall great night out.

So we were visiting San Diego for Halloween weekend, and for our last night, we decided to go to the Gaslamp and grab a bite to eat. I chose AKA because it was open late. Honestly, this restaurant, which transforms into a nice lounge later on in the night, exceeded my expectations. We were seated immediately in this nice booth-type chair, which was very comfortable. The ambiance was really nice, and we were near the bar, where we could watch the World Series. Gaslamp was busy that night; honestly, I didn't realize it was still the day after Halloween. Anyways, we were seated right away and were given the menu immediately. These were the items we ordered: Lychee Drink (5/5): Not the actual name, but the drink was extremely well-made. A-5 Pandan (5/5): Another amazing whiskey drink. Appetizer: Singapore Tempura Rock Shrimp (5/5): By far the best rock shrimp appetizer I have ever had. It had some sweetness, but not overpowering. Seared Wagyu (5/5): Another amazing wagyu appetizer. Made really well, with a perfect texture. The sauce that came with it was very tasty as well. Main Entree: Both of these sushi rolls were amazing and were well-made. Is it pricey, yes, but I think the quality of their food was really good. Tempura Roll Mango Yellowtail After we finished our meal, we were waiting for our server to come back, but since it took him too long, we asked one of the ladies who worked there if we could order a drink, which she took. Unfortunately, the drink was forgotten, and we had to flag down our actual server to check on it, and we even had to explain to him that we ordered it from the female floor manager, I'm assuming. I decided to go down a star because of our server. After all our food was served, he didn't really check up on us anymore until I flagged him down to check for another drink and get our bill so we could pay for it. I understand they were transitioning to their night/club atmosphere, but you need to be able to balance that. You can't ignore your current guest due to a transition. Unfortunately, we decided not to stay longer since people started coming in to dance, but then there were females who were drunk dancing on top of a table. They eventually kicked them out, but when people get sloppy like that, it's usually my cue to leave the place. Overall, the food and drinks here are really good, and yes, it can be pricey, but I do think it was well worth it. The restaurant has an amazing ambiance and cool decor.

San Diego's coastline sparkles with culinary gems for daytime dining, but when it comes to nightlife, Gaslamp Quarter seizes the spotlight. You won't need window seating either because the interior is the vibe. AKA San Diego sits prominently on the corner of Fifth Ave and Market St where an Italian restaurant used to be. Through glass panes, passersby can glimpse at the prismatic lighting and vivid decor. With same day reservations, we were seated by the tall Buddha statue, curiously situated behind a DJ setup, peaceful but ready to party. We'd find out later that the beat's turned up for birthdays which numbered 2 that night. DJ and waitstaff made each celebration lively and fun. As impressive as the backdrop is, the focus remains the menu, an array of Asian fusion dishes that blend flavors with remarkable success. The succulent Yakiniku Filet Beef Satays, the creative Grilled Baja Jumbo Prawns with risotto cake, and the mouthwatering Bluefin Tuna Wasabi are just a few highlights. Many visitors flock to SD for surf and sun, but the city doesn't go dark when nighttime comes. Contrarily, this is when downtown hits the on switch, and AKA is one of the many glowing lights you can follow to find phenomenal dining with unrivaled ambiance.

We went with a large group for a business dinner slash belated bday bash. Food and vibes were Tao adjacent. They brought out champagne and had the DJ go crazy for my bday. Boys weren't super impressed with the steak but all of the appetizers and sushi were great. We had a lovely time. Restaurant is really large inside and great for a group.

Service was fantastic and Ercole was amazing, so I highly recommend asking for him if you're dining there. The ambiance is super unique and I heard it turns into a club on weekends, which is really cool. As for the food, it was pretty mid especially for the price point. Also, for a place advertised as Asian cuisine, it was surprising that most of the main entrées were steak-focused. I personally wouldn't go back for the food, but the experience and atmosphere were definitely memorable.

So, we chose this place as the ambiance seemed unique... modern Asian. Walking in, I should have known something was wrong. The odor of old fish was strong. We got drinks... the Geisha-Rita was very good (hence the second star.) But the food. Was so bad. Just had the bluefin poke tuna bites and orange chicken Kara-age. The tuna was slimy. The orange chicken was under seasoned, slightly burnt, and hardly had any sauce or flavor. We didn't even finish the food and left. read more

Thank you Emily for the great service!! We just came in for drinks but the food sounded so good! We got the Yellowtail Curry Kiss, albacore delight sushi roll, & thom Kha soup. Emily was kind enough to have the kitchen split our soup bowls in 2 for us and my friend who usually hates mushrooms was obsessed! Not pictured were the lamb chops which were actually the best part. So perfectly cooked and flavorful. Not a lot of local bars carry yellow chartreuse, but they did so she was able to make our favorite mezcal cocktails & they were perfect too! I really wanted to like this place, but it just didnt hit. Service was great, cute inside, but everything we order was just meh. The place was not busy so I can't blame it on that. We ordered Orange Chicken Kara-age, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Bluefin Tuna Poke Bites, and the Filet Mignon. Orange chicken was over cooked and the sauce didnt taste good. The Pork Belly was dry and the Tuna was a little funky. I stopped eating the tuna because I was afraid it might be bad. The steak was ok, ordered medium rare and it was cooked to that, but the brussel sprouts were not cooked enough. You couldn't even get your fork into them. I will say the food may have sucked, but the espresso martini was great! All this brought the bill close to $200. Definitely not work that price tag. read more

I was brought here for my birthday, first time visiting AKA. James our server did a great job. The service they offer id pretty amazing. They constantly check up on you without being a bother. The food menu isnt the biggest but yet have tasty dishes. I tried their fillet mignon with wasabi mashed potatoes and it was a solid meal and something new to try with the mashed potatoes. Their Mango sushi is also a favorite, melts in your mouth and has a fresh taste and marble texture. The vibe inside the place is definitely great. I haven't been here since it was LAVO and this new restaurant is fantastic! We had reservations but it wasn't crowded, so we're seated immediately. We went for Happy Hour and it's everything you hope a HH to be...great selection and lots of options, plus good prices, and longer hours. Everything on the HH menu was $10. We got: Pork Belly Boa Buns - some of the best I've ever had! You get two. They are large in size and the pork belly was so tender! Potstickers - very good! Chicken Karaage - delicious and large portion Rock Shrimp - generous serving and they were great Dirty Chai Martini - their take of an espresso martini with a real espresso pour. Loved it! Geisha-rita- if you like a smoky cocktail, this is it! It's very strong and smoky! Dry Dan Dan Noodles - we ordered this based off of the servers recommendation and because it came with a poached egg! Sadly, when it was brought out it didn't have an egg. We had to ask about this and were only then told the chef decided to stop serving it with a poached egg! However, he offered to bring us a sunny side up egg. We compromised and said yes. Sadly, we were given two extremely overcooked eggs. This dish was good but underwhelming since it didn't have the poached egg. Food came out fast and everything was filling. But the servers need training...on multiple occasions they tried to take away our food while we were still eating it. They took away my cocktail before I was done! It's one of my biggest pet peeves. I paid for this food, let me finish it if I want to! We had to tell them multiple times we weren't done. We felt rushed and that never feels good! There is a live DJ and thankfully the music wasn't too loud. They remodeled a bit since taking over LAVO and the vibe is hip and sexy. The bathrooms were not tended too well and didn't have seat covers and were low on toilet paper. read more

Another overrated, overpriced spot in San Diego where you're paying outrageous prices for five little bites of food on the plate. One of those "paying for the experience" type of places that San Diego has far too many of already. Yummy? Yes. Left with a $500 tab and still hungry? Yes. Also, be aware, they charge taxes on total after automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 6+ rather than on the subtotal. Just an extra little dig to make you never want to go back. read more

Food all amazing best ones we think that was extra amazing was the filet dumplings and baby back ribs ! I can just go there and just order this 2 apps with 2other gf and be so happy! I pad $25+ for orange chicken appetizers for 5 nuggets on a bed of spring mix. The sushi was good compared to McDonalds if they were a sushi joint. My partner and I ordered 1 medium and 1 medium/rare steak. 1 came out blue and the other came out well done. They were constantly apologizing which was chill... I guess. Gaslamp is honestly my least favorite part of San Diego, but my baby cousin just turned 24 and all the "happening" spots seem to be here. I will say, the place was definitely popping and had a great energy for a birthday night out. The hostesses were sweet and welcoming, which I really appreciated. However, after being seated, I didn't receive menus and had to flag down our server after about 10 minutes just to be greeted, which was a bit frustrating. That said, the experience picked up from there. There was a really cool drummer who walks around the restaurant, which added such a fun and lively vibe. They also have a photographer on-site so you can take pictures and purchase them, such a cute way to capture memories, especially for special occasions. The food was good with no complaints, and most importantly, the birthday girl had an amazing time, which is what mattered most to me. Overall, a fun spot for celebrations, even if service could use a little improvement. Maybe I'll come back for my 33rd birthday lol read more

Last night we were excited to celebrate a special occasion and opted for the chef's $250 platter and other appetizeHowever, as soon as the platter arrived, it had an unusually strong and unpleasant fish odor that none of us had ever experienced before. Unfortunately, things got worse--every one of the girls at the table has been sick since early this morning, with symptoms of food poisoning including vomiting. This has not only ruined what should have been a memorable evening, but it's also caused real distress and discomfort for all involved. My husband and I came for restaurant week and ordered a couple things and it's honestly way too expensive for the quality that you get. I'm not saying that it was horrible but I definitely could've had the same quality food in a cheaper price. The ambiance was beautiful and loud as per it being a Saturday night which I didn't mind. But our bill was $300 for 4 drinks, 2 restaurant week dinners which was about $54 per person and an a la carte appetizer. The drinks are all about $18+. We go back to verify this age limit, and it's there... one TINY line 2 scrolls down on the page, WAY beyond any of the information needed to just book a table, which is the only thing Open Table is used for. Complete waste of time for a poorly advertised bar with zero helpful staff on a dumpy street by the airport.

What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. The food and the service were equally outstanding. I really enjoyed all of the entertaining table side menu items they had available to order. Another thing that is always a really big nod to us of great service, is when they treat our kids just as well as us adults. They greeted them, spoke to them, and even ended up creating two mocktails from their personal preferences. We really appreciate that so much! We ended up ordering a variety of things to try for our family of four: the table side Caesar salad, the Steak Sampler, a Filet, Lobster, Mashed Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, and Truffle Fries - we loved it all! Perfectly cooked and everything we wanted it to be! We were so full, but after viewing the dessert cart all night, we had to try some! The most decadent, delicious, chocolate, layered cake was our pick. As we were waiting tho, we saw the table side banana foster dessert being made and had to order that too! No regrets!! It was all perfect!! They also kindly brought us out a really good peanut butter and jelly macron, but the star was that it was topped with a gold dusted Wu Tang emblem on top - LOVE!! PS - even the bathrooms were fun! I really look forward to trying more of their restaurants!

I was really looking forward to trying AKA, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 8:30 pm on a Tuesday evening, and the vibe immediately felt off. There was no hostess available to greet or seat us, and the front felt very unorganized. We were left standing there unsure of what to do, which created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming first impression. The atmosphere overall just felt off, even with the DJ there, it didn't create an enjoyable or inviting energy. My husband ordered a margarita, and after it was brought to the table, we were told they only had skinny margaritas available. That should have been communicated before the drink was made. He then asked for tequila neat, but it was brought out on ice instead, which again showed a lack of attention to detail. At that point, we didn't even want to continue correcting things. The food was the biggest letdown. For the price point, we expected quality and flavor, but everything came out bland and underwhelming. It simply did not justify the cost. Overall, the service felt disorganized, communication was lacking, and the food did not meet expectations. I had high hopes for Aka restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While the main dish was just okay, the dessert - Crème Brûlée - was disappointing. We sent the first one back because it was dry and tasteless, only to receive a second one that was just as bad. To make matters worse, during our meal, we noticed a waitress holding menus between her legs. This was not only unprofessional but also incredibly unsanitary. It made us question the overall hygiene standards of the restaurant. I expected better from a downtown establishment, and sadly, I can't recommend Aka based on this visit.
