The experience was okay. The restaurant is gorgeous. Beautifully decorated. I was seated immediately but despite telling the hostess I was there for happy hour I did not receive the menu. I had to wait almost 10 minutes before a server brought it. I ordered the rock shrimp which was amazing and the waygu grilled wontons, which were a massive disappointment. The rock shrimp happy hour item came with over 10 very tasty rock shrimp. The wontons came with a whoppping 3. They were overcooked and fell apart, despite this they had ZERO crunch. Almost no flavor at all. I would come back for the shrimp but not the service or the wontons.

Such a fun spot to dine in and vibe to great music! Love the intimate atmosphere AKA offers and our Waiter, Cru was amazing. Loved the cocktail menu options and of course approved of their espresso martini. The potstickers were one of the best I've ever had- literally melt in your mouth! I also enjoyed my sushi roll as well. The dessert was so delicious we ordered creme brûlée and ended up with a free dessert/celebration which was so fun, as we were celebrating my friend's b-day! Would definitely recommend a visit!

What a fun club!! You can hear the music from the street, which instantly pulled us in. It was even more surprising when we found out there was no cover charge, say what?! Once inside, the place was impressive. The vibe is super Instagram-worthy, and the atmosphere was all about having a great time. The music was poppin' all night. I would definitely come back! From what I've read in other reviews, it looks like they also offer dinner here, which makes me even more curious to return. Drinks are reasonable so over all great first time here!

We were staying in the gaslamp area were looking for a fun spot to eat. I'm glad I chose this spot for a Friday night. It was so lively, beautifully and aesthetically decorated, and fun! It definitely was a place to go for celebrations because there were a few tables that got attention with lights and drinks which was pretty fun to watch. They have music going on in the background which adds to the vibe. The lighting is great. As soon as you walk in you see a lit up statue. Every so often a drummer comes out and drums to the beat of the music, which is pretty fun to be a part of. Our server was great and attentive. She was very helpful with answering any questions we had. We ordered the salmon skin salad, which was a unique flavorful taste. The saltiness from the salmon complemented the salad. Order two sushi rolls, which I can't remember what they were But they were both really good. I also ordered PadThai... It was definitely plenty for two people. So we ended up taking left over Pad Thai, which we normally don't. I will say it was amazing the next day too! We ordered two Sopporos and 2 sake to make sake bombs. I'd recommend doing 1 sake, and two Sopporos next time. Overall, we had a great experience, great service, great food, and great nights. I will definitely go again.

Food: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 We happened to stumble upon AKA Restaurant in on a fairly quiet weeknight. We didn't have reservations but were seated promptly, which was a great start to the evening. What first caught our eye was the super creative décor. There's a large statue in the middle of the room that really makes a statement, and inside the red, dark lighting gives the space a really cool, moody vibe. It feels a little sultry and dramatic, but still lively and fun at the same time. We were seated quickly and helped quickly. We ordered several items to share: the lamb chops, mango yellowtail sushi, salmon skin salad, and the lobster garlic noodles. For drinks, we tried an ube cocktail (forgot the name) and the lychee martini. The cocktails came out aesthetically beautiful and were also delicious and refreshing. We really enjoyed them. The food arrived pretty fast and not only looked gorgeous, but tasted just as good. I especially loved the lobster garlic noodles and the lamb chops. Both were super flavorful and satisfying. The mango yellowtail sushi was good, but not my favorite of the night. The true star of the show was the salmon skin salad. The salmon skin was fried perfectly, light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. It was honestly the best salmon skin salad I've ever had. Overall, the ambiance is really neat. It's dark and moody, but still has an energetic vibe. I highly recommend this spot for a date night, a girls' night out, or just a fun evening downtown. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was on point. I'd love to come back later in the evening when it transitions more into a club/lounge vibe. It looks like it would be such a good time. Highly recommend for good food, good vibes, good service, and an overall great night out.

Ordered amazing lavish food. Toro truffle, mango yellow tail roll. They both are amazing. Dumplings are delicious too. Must try . I tried cream cheese and veggie ones. Pad Thai, egg fried rice and orange chicken have really good flavours, quite different. Everything was unique and scrumptious.

So we were visiting San Diego for Halloween weekend, and for our last night, we decided to go to the Gaslamp and grab a bite to eat. I chose AKA because it was open late. Honestly, this restaurant, which transforms into a nice lounge later on in the night, exceeded my expectations. We were seated immediately in this nice booth-type chair, which was very comfortable. The ambiance was really nice, and we were near the bar, where we could watch the World Series. Gaslamp was busy that night; honestly, I didn't realize it was still the day after Halloween. Anyways, we were seated right away and were given the menu immediately. These were the items we ordered: Lychee Drink (5/5): Not the actual name, but the drink was extremely well-made. A-5 Pandan (5/5): Another amazing whiskey drink. Appetizer: Singapore Tempura Rock Shrimp (5/5): By far the best rock shrimp appetizer I have ever had. It had some sweetness, but not overpowering. Seared Wagyu (5/5): Another amazing wagyu appetizer. Made really well, with a perfect texture. The sauce that came with it was very tasty as well. Main Entree: Both of these sushi rolls were amazing and were well-made. Is it pricey, yes, but I think the quality of their food was really good. Tempura Roll Mango Yellowtail After we finished our meal, we were waiting for our server to come back, but since it took him too long, we asked one of the ladies who worked there if we could order a drink, which she took. Unfortunately, the drink was forgotten, and we had to flag down our actual server to check on it, and we even had to explain to him that we ordered it from the female floor manager, I'm assuming. I decided to go down a star because of our server. After all our food was served, he didn't really check up on us anymore until I flagged him down to check for another drink and get our bill so we could pay for it. I understand they were transitioning to their night/club atmosphere, but you need to be able to balance that. You can't ignore your current guest due to a transition. Unfortunately, we decided not to stay longer since people started coming in to dance, but then there were females who were drunk dancing on top of a table. They eventually kicked them out, but when people get sloppy like that, it's usually my cue to leave the place. Overall, the food and drinks here are really good, and yes, it can be pricey, but I do think it was well worth it. The restaurant has an amazing ambiance and cool decor.

San Diego's coastline sparkles with culinary gems for daytime dining, but when it comes to nightlife, Gaslamp Quarter seizes the spotlight. You won't need window seating either because the interior is the vibe. AKA San Diego sits prominently on the corner of Fifth Ave and Market St where an Italian restaurant used to be. Through glass panes, passersby can glimpse at the prismatic lighting and vivid decor. With same day reservations, we were seated by the tall Buddha statue, curiously situated behind a DJ setup, peaceful but ready to party. We'd find out later that the beat's turned up for birthdays which numbered 2 that night. DJ and waitstaff made each celebration lively and fun. As impressive as the backdrop is, the focus remains the menu, an array of Asian fusion dishes that blend flavors with remarkable success. The succulent Yakiniku Filet Beef Satays, the creative Grilled Baja Jumbo Prawns with risotto cake, and the mouthwatering Bluefin Tuna Wasabi are just a few highlights. Many visitors flock to SD for surf and sun, but the city doesn't go dark when nighttime comes. Contrarily, this is when downtown hits the on switch, and AKA is one of the many glowing lights you can follow to find phenomenal dining with unrivaled ambiance.

We went with a large group for a business dinner slash belated bday bash. Food and vibes were Tao adjacent. They brought out champagne and had the DJ go crazy for my bday. Service was fantastic and Ercole was amazing, so I highly recommend asking for him if you're dining there. The ambiance is super unique and I heard it turns into a club on weekends, which is really cool. As for the food, it was pretty mid especially for the price point. Also, for a place advertised as Asian cuisine, it was surprising that most of the main entrées were steak-focused. I personally wouldn't go back for the food, but the experience and atmosphere were definitely memorable.

We had our reservation Thursday night. We were walking around the area that afternoon so decided to check out the place before our dinner with friends that night. We spoke with a host who confirmed our reservation at 8pm. She was friendly and offered to reserve a good table for us. Dinner time comes, and no reserved table at all. It was fine since there were still available tables anyway but kinda discouraging and staff felt unorganized. Decor is cool, instagrammable. For me, it is the only part that is impressive. Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk how does this place have above 2 stars on Google and Yelp??? The service here is awful, drinks are watered down, and food was salty AF. But the music was bumping - we warped back to the 90's with Jagged Edge and Montell Jordan. As soon as I walked in, I thought: OMG SO CUTE!!!!!!!! But that's the only reason this spot gets a star - ambiance is aesthetically pleasing to the eye! Walked out with cute pix to post on the gram, haha! I sat down with my friends to celebrate my friends birthday! The place was empty since we arrived pretty early to avoid the FriNightKids! The birthday girl has an allergy to dairy, so she ordered a plain salad with a side of lobster. She specifically asked that it doesn't have dairy in it. The salad had a white dressing and she definitely tasted the dairy! The salad had zero lobster even though the server was INSISTENT that the salad had no dairy and lobster mixed in. She wanted us to believe her over our own eyes. My friend didn't want to order an alternative item in fear they'd fork it up again + plus it was past 10pm by the time the food arrived. Also, they gave her ice cream based in dairy as a birthday treat My other friend ordered a sushi with charred salmon - it was so exceptionally salty. It felt like I was eating spoonful of salt. I ordered the Mango Yellowtail, and well, NGL - it was phenomenal. The combination of yellowtail mixed with mango puree or light mango sauce was a celebration in my mouth. Now, why did the waitress get a $17 tip? Because she followed us to the dance floor to close out the tab versus meeting us at the table - I mindlessly clicked some buttons on her little pad just to get her to go away..... Needless to say - I will not be coming back to AKA - there are waaaay too many amazing sushi spots to go back to a 1-star spot!!!!! read more

I came here to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. It felt like every other table celebrating a birthday got the full experience -- sparklers, personalized music, attention from the DJ. But when we asked if we could request a song for our table like everyone else, our waitress shut us down and said the DJ had a fixed set -- no exceptions. When they came to our table, there was no special song, no singing -- just the same background music playing. It felt completely flat and impersonal. On top of that, I had clearly told the waitress I don't eat dairy -- yet they brought me ice cream for the birthday treat. It would've been nice to be asked if I'd prefer something else instead. Worse, I ordered a salad with lobster and no dairy, and what I got instead was a plate covered in dairy, no lobster, and four sushi rolls filled with some mystery red paste. I had to send it back, and by the time it was dealt with, it was already 10 PM -- so I ended up not eating at all. The worst part? While we were dancing -- with all our belongings (phones, purses) still at our table -- the waitress literally followed us onto the dance floor with the card machine, asking us to pay. That was incredibly unprofessional and made us feel like we were being treated as if we might walk out on the bill, even though it was clear we were still very much present. Overall, the service was cold, dismissive, and inconsiderate. I left feeling like my birthday experience was completely ignored while other guests got the celebration I was hoping for. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this felt too unfair not to share. read more

Stopped by after a Padres game and enjoyed a little cocktail and appetizers. The tuna was so fresh and the shrimp tempura was easily my favorite! Teagan was the bartender and server during this hour, she was so friendly and kind. I also met the Chef in passing and he was so nice. I was excited to check this place out--it has a fun and lively atmosphere. It seems like a great spot for celebrations, especially birthdays, as I noticed sparklers being brought out a few times. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the service was excellent. For starters, I tried the filet mignon potstickers, which were easily the highlight of the meal--absolutely delicious. I also ordered the mango yellowtail roll, which was just okay; it was a bit soggy. The chicken satay, on the other hand, was very dry and disappointing--I wouldn't recommend it. My friend had the filet, which was good, though it's clear this isn't a steakhouse. Overall, the vibe is great, but the food was just average. read more

This place is a total vibe! The decor is beautiful and Asian inspired. Very classy and there is a huge Buddha right in the middle of the restaurant. The bar is on the other side and was packed after hours. My table had several rolls, sashimi as well as their dinner plates. My favorite was the filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection and buttery soft. Definitely worth checking out for date night or any special occasion. read more

Personally I wouldn't come here again. The food was alright but nothing spectacular for the price. They were also constantly very busy and seemed short staffed so it took them a while to serve us and took a while to even get water. We actually had to ask for water since they never served us it. The mood is cool considering it's the gaslamp area but there's definitely other places I would rather go to for the price. read more

No Complaints! Wife, daughter and I stopped in for dinner while in So Cal. Checking out colleges and watching my son play a few games on the road. AKA has a funky vibe to it and some sweet decor things going on. We had some sushi rolls and steak and everything tasted great! I feel the pricing was pretty darn reasonable too so happy there on the wallet. Our server made all the marks and when we ordered a couple glasses of wine and it tasted a little old we let her know and she had the tender open a new bottle and pour us some new glasses no questions asked. Appreciate the level of service we received and would recommend AKA to others! Ps. This place is within walking distance to the WestGate hotel. read more

Our expectations were high, granted the service was ok. The server keeps pushing expensive drinks and food. We ordered a couple of dishes that did not taste great. We had 2 drinks, 2 apps, and 2 entrees for a $250 dinner. Out of hand, for bad food and ok service. Will never go back. To add, I was in the bathroom with diarrhea all night. Stumbled upon this place during a Thursday afternoon stroll. What caught our attention was the happy hour and the interior design. We were greeted by Martin. When I point out none of this is advertised anywhere, I'm informed it's on Open Table, and that we should've seen it there, and were dismissed. They said they could give us another restaurant recommendation and then proceeded to just dismiss us without even that courtesy. We go back to verify this age limit, and it's there... one TINY line 2 scrolls down on the page, WAY beyond any of the information needed to just book a table, which is the only thing Open Table is used for. Complete waste of time for a poorly advertised bar with zero helpful staff on a dumpy street by the airport.

His questions guided my indecision towards a Berkshire Old Fashioned that was fantastic despite my fumbling to get there. With the warm up round over and the old fashioned loosening up my creativity, round two was set to be a knockout. I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. Flavorful, strong, bold, delicious all at the same time. Unfortunately (?), this was a noble experiment so I'll forever be chasing the white whale of what this drink was. But that's the allure.

It paired beautifully with the Geisha-Rita, a refreshing cocktail that added an extra layer of enjoyment to my meal. I was really looking forward to trying AKA, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 8:30 pm on a Tuesday evening, and the vibe immediately felt off. There was no hostess available to greet or seat us, and the front felt very unorganized. We were left standing there unsure of what to do, which created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming first impression. The atmosphere overall just felt off, even with the DJ there, it didn't create an enjoyable or inviting energy. My husband ordered a margarita, and after it was brought to the table, we were told they only had skinny margaritas available. That should have been communicated before the drink was made. He then asked for tequila neat, but it was brought out on ice instead, which again showed a lack of attention to detail. At that point, we didn't even want to continue correcting things. The food was the biggest letdown. For the price point, we expected quality and flavor, but everything came out bland and underwhelming. It simply did not justify the cost. Overall, the service felt disorganized, communication was lacking, and the food did not meet expectations. We sent the first one back because it was dry and tasteless, only to receive a second one that was just as bad. To make matters worse, during our meal, we noticed a waitress holding menus between her legs. This was not only unprofessional but also incredibly unsanitary. It made us question the overall hygiene standards of the restaurant. I expected better from a downtown establishment, and sadly, I can't recommend Aka based on this visit.
