Long story short, a really great Korean/Japanese spot in Dr. Phillips! Walking in the hosts and the servers are very welcoming and very attentive all throughout our meal. They have ample spaces inside with an alcoholic bar, sushi bar, and regular table seating as your choices. They do have a MASSIVE (I do mean MASSIVE) sushi list so you will definitely find something you will like. Aside from choosing your own rolls, nigiri, or sashimi, they also have a good selection of noodles, rice and main entrees for your choosing. We chose the takoyaki and oyster tempura as the appetizer and it came quickly and very fresh and delicious! For our mains I chose to stick with the hurricane and unforgettable roll and my boyfriend got the Sushi Master - letting the sushi chef choose what to serve him. Both were very delicious and fresh options (my only wish is more saucy sushi options!). I've been here 3 times now and am always so impressed. Akasaka has a delicious menu and every single thing on it is mind blowing. You can tell that they put alot of care and effort into each creation. It's a Japanese/korean fusion restaurant and the options are all great, whether you are an adventurous eater or not there is something for everyone! I just spent my birthday here with a very large party and we had the best time! The staff is so kind and accommodating. There is a photo booth that we spend alot of time laughing and getting pictures in. The restaurant is beautiful with good music- there's even a late night lounge with tapas and drinks that we went to immediately after dinner. Amazing Japanese/korean restaurant! The best dish in my opinion is the chicken katsu! Super crispy and tasty chicken cutlet covered in a savory curry sauce that is truly unforgettable. The other star dish is the jjamppong, which is a popular spicy seafood noodle soup in Korea. We came for a birthday celebration and got free dessert! I recommend the fried cheesecake- crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. It's paired with vanilla ice cream which also adds another texture to the taste. Server was sweet, we ended up getting the spicy edamame, bulgogi, sushi combo and a California roll with real crab. My friend did not like the California roll she said the crab was too fishy. They refused to take it off the bill or swap it out for another roll. They discounted the roll(they said that was the best they could do). I am very upset because I've never been to a restaurant where if you don't like the quality or taste of something they don't switch it out for something else. The manager said the only way to take it off is if the chef messed up the order.Will never be coming back here as a sushi lover. Really needed this after a week in Orlando without eating Asian food. My stomach was asking for rice and noodles! We found this place through Google and saw how well it was rated - despite being a little out of our way, we decided to try it. The menu was a bit overwhelming, as they have a little bit of everything - hibachi, sushi, ramen, etc. We were seated instantly as we arrived early for dinner time. It did get busier but never packed throughout our dining experience. My boyfriend ordered the steak and chicken hibachi, and I ordered the trio delight (chicken shrimp steak). The dishes were similar, but the tastes were definitely distinct. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't offer the teppanyaki show unless we had four or more people, as we both would have ordered hibachi if that meant we could get a show. I also feel like the show is baked into the price - it's $29 for two items and $38 for three. The portion is big, but a lot of that is noodles and veggies. I feel like that is on the high side for Asian food. My trio delight was also $25, on the higher side for such a dish. But the taste was good and just what I was looking for so I wasn't disappointed at the end. Overall I'd recommend Akasaka. The service was good and the food was tasty, with big portions. Overall the place was fairly clean and I noticed the waitstaff doing their side work. I did notice that several waitstaff and even a few of the sushi guys were eating throughout their shift. That's not my favorite but maybe not a deal breaker for you. We ordered 3 rolls and shared the Japache. The best thing by far was the Japache. The sushi was all just ok, I found the rice, especially in the shrimp tempura roll to be dry, almost like it wasn't made fresh. The brainstorm roll was ok, we found a bunch of shell pieces inside, that kind of ruined it honestly and the rock and roll was nothing to write home about. Just all very average. The menu is quite extensive, with plenty of options for rolls, ramen, platters, fried rice, and more. Our server graciously guided me through the menu to help me get oriented, and through her explanations I can definitely recommend this place for someone hoping to expand their sushi horizons as well. This place can also host large parties and has a nice bar area for bar seating if that is more your thing compared to traditional seating options. We were going to go next door to the steakhouse buuuut didn't match the dress code so decided to go here. The place has such a relaxing vibe. The drinks were light and flavorful, the extensive sushi list was a bit overwhelming but our waitress was amazing with explaining what they were and also made sure mine didn't come with pineapple. Which was good because a sauce had it in it but didn't say it in the menu. We got pork boa buns and they were so light and fresh. The pork had great grill and smoky flavor while the bun was light. The sauce had a good kick to it. Highly recommend. Then we got miso soup. Had good flavor and lots of seaweed, but not tofu pieces. I got 3 rolls- a rainbow, brain storm and Hawaiian. My favorite was the brainstorm- the soft shell crab was perfect. My husband got the short rib plate and loved it, he was just full from my sushi! Akasaka used to be Amura, a Japanese steak and sushi restaurant, which changed its name after adding Korean food to its menu. 4 stars for one of the best sushi spots in Orlando. Food: We started with the fried calamari, which was a bit heavy on the breading to me, followed by 3 different sushi rolls (Ruby in Jade, Rainbow, and a third one that I can't recall the name of), which were all fantastic. Some of the sushi rolls are pricey but worth what you pay for given the variety and quality of their ingredients. Their fish is very fresh and perfectly cut! The table next to us ordered a large sushi, sashimi, and nigiri boat that looked amazing. Drinks: The lychee martini, though quite sweet to my palate, is definitely a must-try, especially considering that not many restaurants or bars would offer it - I don't think I've ever seen it on a menu. Our waitress was great and answered all our questions about the menu. The variety and the uniqueness of their maki menu definitely stood out. We ordered three rolls but unfortunately the rice was undercooked for each of them. Based on other reviews, I'm guessing it was an off batch of rice or maybe they've just been getting busier - they did have a wait line when we left. The other dishes we tried were good though including the okonomiyaki appetizer which was very flavorful with lots of seafood in the filling. I usually dont like giving bad reviews and having worked in the hospitality industry and in restaurants for most of my life, I try my best to always look for the positive in a negative situation but i have had the chance to dine at Akasaka Sushi not once but twice and both times it has been an awful and negative experience. I believe restaurants should be given a second chance and i wanted to like this restaurant but unfortunately the reality is that they need to improve and make changes. We had a reservation at 7:30 pm on Saturday, August 9 and we waited for a table for an hour after our reservation. The host never came and apologized and only said it will be 15 minutes more and then 10 minutes and then 15 minutes etc. if we would had known that they had no tables we would had just left. No harm but because we get told 10 and 15 minutes we waited. Anyway we were in good attitudes. We got a table and we waited 25 minutes until someone came to our table to offer us water. I know this because i was timing it. The server was a bit too friendly. After everything we waited he was more interested in telling jokes than get our order or even bring waters. At one point we even asked him who was he? Because he said he was not our server. That was Supposed to be a joke. Not very funny but to each their own. We finally get our drinks and order our food and that took awhile but we were among friends and we wanted to have a good time. Our food came I had ordered the black squid pasta and it looked almost broth like. Way too soupy. Now i would not have a problem with this but i had asked the server and he said it was not soupy. Again maybe it it was a miscommunication It happens. The dish was ok. For $29.00 dollars not worth it. We ordered 2 sushi dishes The Hawaiian and the Mango Tango The presentation was very simple. They were ok The other dishes were ok as well The korean chicken was good!!!. The beef bulgogi was good too. In the end i dont think its a bad restaurant but it needs to work on better training for the employees, especially know how the dishes are served. And work on a better system with how they handle the reservations. I had the same issues the first time i went and there ( long waits, food being just ok and servers not knowing how the dishes come out) definitely wont be a third try. I wish them the best and of course everyone has their opinion but for me, i will not be recommending this restaurant or plan to visit this restaurant. read more

Very disappointed I have gotten to go a few times orders are big. Tonight I decided to eat in, I had multiple orders, including the sushi master, which was very underwhelming for the price. The best thing was the miso soup. I even ordered a salmon and tuna roll after I told the waiter that the original order was underwhelming. The salmon was so small and you can barely see any avocado. Food: We ordered a bit but let's break this down....OMG - Ginger salad: 10/10 The ginger dressing was absolutely amazing. We both ate all of it. - Pork Bao buns: 9/10 it honestly was the best bao bun I've had in a very long time. The only knock on it was my bun was a little hard. But the taste omg it was amazing. - The "WOW" sushi roll: 100/10 . We got yum yum sauce to dip the sushi in and WOW the sauce is the best I've ever had (no joke) Tonkotsu ramen: I didn't order this but was able to try the broth and it's rich! One of the worst experiences in a Japanese restaurant maybe because it was Japanese-Korean they couldn't get it right. The bao bun was hard as a rock, beef bulgogi was bland unlike what I'm used to at a Korean bbq restaurant and the fiery spicy garlic chicken was like orange chicken at best! It was very sweet and not spicy at all plus the chicken was stringy and hard. Also we didn't get rice and asked for double portion of veggies and only got single. This place has somehow inherited the location of Amura and its Yelp listing without inheriting its name. Although the sign on the building itself (as of this writing) still says Amura, the door says Akasaka, as do the menus. The food seems extremely similar. The sushi is good quality as it always was, and the prices are high, as they always were. The thing that has changed is that it now bills itself as an Asian restaurant, and offers a variety of Korean dishes in addition to traditional Japanese dishes and sushi. A number of the items on the menu were not available, so I think things are still in the process of changing. Service was good, and the ambience is fine, at least at lunchtime. read more
