The 5-star reviews look either fabricated or paid-for AND from my experience with these plumbers, I am NOT SURPRISED. MY STORY, if you have time to read it: I just bought a newly renovated house. I am a new homeowner. I had a gas leak in my new house when I first moved in. The gas company directed me to seek plumbers to change a broken valve and hose as they disconnected the gas. Al & Robin Torres were recommended by a realtor. I called them and someone came right away. What would have just been a simple repair from 2 plumbers, Craig and Rodrigo because an all day event with a manager, John, coming to my home. John began to explain that there was a gas leak, however it could not be accurately identified where it was with whatever magic device this company had. As a new homeowner, I took their recommendation and expertise seriously. He said they would have to come back the next day to do a loading test but it looked like they were also going to 1) recommend to change all the pipes, 2) get the city plans because they were going to have to break down some walls, or 3) if we really wanted to find out where the gas leak was, they were going to have to tear open the new flooring in the house. They did change the hose and valve that was initially recommended by the Gas Company. John said, "Do you make the financial decisions in the house? Or should we wait until you and your partner are together?" I asked, "Does it matter? How much are we looking?" He said, "Well, I will have to do the loading test and you know what, I will have to get back to you on that. Tomorrow, I'll get back to you with that." The next day, there was no loading test. The water heater was drained and left unsecured for multiple days. I was given an estimate 2 days later with lacking information. When I asked for an itemized receipt or some type of itemization for their recommendation of changing all the pipes and how much labor costs, the response I got from the owner, Robin was, "We're a contracting company and we don't do that." THE ESTIMATE THAT THEY PROVIDED IS A SHORT PARAGRAPH OF THEIR PLAN (that doesn't explain or have any pricing as to how they come up with a total amount). They quoted me $8860.00 (not counting breaking down the walls and getting the city permits). I called the Gas Company again to reassess for a gas leak. * * * THERE WAS NO GAS LEAK FOUND. * * * This plumbing company, especially all the people I interacted with (Craig, John and Robin Torres) LIED. Their recommendation was intentionally inaccurate. This is UNETHICAL. I was with no gas, no heat and initially no water (they shut off the water for reasons that are unclear) for 1 week in a new home. Robin Torres was rude at one point when I asked for the rationale of having the water heater not placed back and secured with brackets. She said, "Well, what are you afraid of, an earthquake?" regarding the water heater that was left unhooked with no safety measurements reattached. VERY CONDESCENDING and UNNECESSARY. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE A HISTORY OF TERRIBLE SERVICE (price gouging, lying to customers and inappropriate communication/insulting behavior to customers). We requested to have a leaky faucet in our bathtub to be fixed and was charged $595 for 1 1/2 hrs. of repair work. We have used them several times over the years for our home repairs and want to support small businesses in the area but the charge of service was completely ridiculous! Talked with Greg in the office and asked why the charge was so high and if we could see an invoice showing the breakdown of parts and labor and he replied they never give that out. However, he did say they pay their employees very well, which the plumber seemed nice enough, but needless to say, we will certainly never use them again or recommend them to anyone else. read more

My heater went out and I called al and Robin Torres spoke with gabriel and set up someone to come the next morning and take a look at my unit..A tech came out and diagnosed our unit informed us of a bad control board. I got as far as I could on my own attempting to fix a leak under my bathroom sink. But when I realized the galvanized supply pipe had corroded to the point where I might need to go behind the wall to repair it, I called Al & Robin Torres. They sent German & Derek to the house. These two servicemen were fast, pleasant, clear, and efficient. They tried to get the pipe out without breaking through the wall, but it just bent. They made a clean cut, opened the wall and replaced the rusted pipes with copper connecting to copper. They weren't cheap (almost $800) but it's repaired now and should last my lifetime. read more

I ask about a plumbing issues I've been having for years now, they were also able to fix my main drainage issues while they were there. I was Very impressed . I wish I had seen Donnie D. review before I went with Robin's service. I cannot agree more with what Donnie described in his review. I am also reporting this company to the BBB and Contractors State License Board. If you consider using their service, please make sure to ask them put down in writing and ask them to tell you what item they are installing or replacing. They would try to just call you without leaving any written evidence of what they said. Do not believe what they found and do not believe their quotes. I am a landlord, so this service was recommended by the tenant. I normally use the vendors after reading their reviews, I will not make this same mistake again. First of all, I gave my contact phone number, my email address and stated that I am the owner. They avoided talking to me for almost a week, and just asked my tenants to tell me the total cost without any other information. I asked them which model of garbage disposal they installed to replace the old one and their license number SEVEN TIMES, and they refused to tell me until I told them I would report them to the BBB and California Contractors State License Board. They told my tenant that the original garbage disposal is the cheapest on the market, and that's why it didn't work. That's why I was curious which model they put in instead. They just wouldn't tell me after my repeated requests. It turns out they just installed a same brand garbage disposal with only 1/4 HP more power. So, only $40 more from the one they called "the cheapest possible model on the market." That's why they refused to tell me which model and manufacturer it was. I am pretty sure that they need to disclose the parts they installed by law. Apparently, California Contractors State License Board would not allow this kind of behavior. I am even okay with the original model or a slightly better model, it's the price they charge. The model they put in is priced at $195 on Amazon, but they charged $895. I asked them the price breakdown and they refused to answer. It's ridiculous. Their technician was supposed to call me (the landlord) when they decide to charge me $895 to install a part only costs $195. So, their installation fee for a garbage disposal is $700. My contact information (name, phone, email) was listed as the owner on the quote they sent me later. I even asked my tenant at the end of the day that they didn't contact me for the quote. After I tried to contact them, they avoid talking to me for days. They just want my tenant to pay, since he signed it. I told my tenant I will pay it, but they need to let me know the scope of work. I kept asking them which model of garbage disposal they installed, and they just refused to tell me anything. They said the tenant approved the order and signed the quote. I believe the law in California does not work that way. This is something the California Contractors State License Board should investigate. I became suspicious when they tried to ask me to pay $2800 to service the water heater. I asked then exactly what is that $2800 for? They said it's for a circulation pump. It's not even to replace the water heater. I asked them which model of circulation pump is it and why $2800. No answer at all. They also want me to spend $2600 to replace the faucet. So, more than $5k just trying to address the water heater problem without even trying to replace the problematic water heater with a new one. I would not be surprised that later they said they still need to replace the water heater for $15k. The "$2800 circulation pump" cost from $150 to $450 on the market. So, they charged almost $2k to install a pump that still does not fix the water heater itself. The worse part is that they refuse to tell me any information about the parts and service they would charge me for. I am pretty sure that some people would just pay without asking not knowing that they charge about 5X to 10X of what other vendors would charge. They know they are in the wrong, so they kept asking the tenant to talk to me. Do you really want to use their service knowing that they would not even want to talk to you directly? If they are very confident about the service they provided, why they cannot talk to the paying customer directly. Why withholding all information they charged me for. Why they did not contact the owner directly? Why avoid talking to the owner who paid the invoice? read more

Awful! Awful! Awful!!!! Absolutely the worst!! Not just once, but three times!!! Ugh! Makes me SICK, especially that horrid monster Lori Richardson!! She is the rudest, most offensive person i have ever talked to! My AC was broken so the tech Jon and another guy comes out, takes a look, and tells me we have a broken AC part, so he will go buy it and comeback to install it. He said he will comeback in ONE day. Then next day, no call. I decide to cut them some slack bc they are probably busy. Three days pass, no call! But it is the 4th of July weekend and everyone is away! After the weekend, I call. Lori answers and has NOOOO freakin clue. She says SHE will call Jon and then call me back. I ask for Jon's number. She won't give me his number! I wait, no call! I call back and she says he is too busy to talk so she still has no clue. Instead of APOLOGIZING for their freaking mess up, she tells me I have to wait another week and a half as if I were a first time customer! Excuse me, you rude ass! You guys were suppose to have come and fixed my AC one week ago! You mess it up, don't even apologize and now tell me to wait another week and a half? I shoulda known these bastards were full of shit and just gone with a different company. But I try to be understanding since a neighbor had recommended them to me as a really good company. I grit my teeth and make an appointment for a later date. THAT day was today! They never came! When I called them, stupid LORI said "You didn't answer your phone and confirm to us that you are home right now. So we never sent the technician out." Excuuuuse me??? I am at work! I am busy! I won't be answering personal calls during work! I told her my boyfriend was home the whole time working from home. They didn't ever tell me to "Wait for a phone call from us! We will totally screw you over and cancel your appointment again if you don't pick up your damn phone telling us you are home!" Last time, they did NOT call. Jon just came on the appointment time like all the other damn AC companies! Then, Lori refuses to send the AC person to our home, even though she had said that he will be here sometime from 10a to 12p and it was 12p right now! Last time, she said she will make sure to schedule "Extra time" for Jon to work at my house. So he must have been scheduled till later than freakin 12p! Such bullshit!! I am soooo angry at their sucky customer service and sucky work ethics. They can't even remember the customer they were suppose to return to and pushes them aside like a piece of litter. These people are crooks and extortionists. I had a sprinkler valve break while my husband was out of town. He called these people as we like to use local companies when we can. We very very pleased when they were able to come out right away. However, once they arrived, I had to help them diagnose/find the busted valve. They also checked the toilets inside the house to make sure there were no additional leaks. I mentioned that one toilet ran from time to time. They gave me an estimate to 'rebuild' my toilet for $269.00! Outrageous. It's a 20- minute job, at most, with a $10.00 part. Who are they kidding? I did that job myself. Now, onto the sprinkler valve: They gave me an estimate of over $600.00 to fix that. It took a $30.00 part and my neighbor 30 minutes to fix. Complete rip off. When I declined their services, they left in a huff! Mrs. Torres then calls me and tells me I am going to get a huge water bill from the city if I don't have a licensed plumber fix the problem. However, if they do it, 'she will write a letter to the city asking them to adjust my bill'. She told me she's 'had very good luck when asking for relief from the city'. I paused for a moment because she did exactly what she intended to do.....scare me. Well, Ms. Torres, I built this house and know my way around the Glendale's city services. After a pause I told her I was comfortable talking with the city and handling the matter myself. She said, 'well, good luck with that'. Turns out, the city has an entire program set up to provide relief to people that had this same issue. They send you a form, you fill it out and send them your receipts from Home Depot and they take care of it. No need for Robyn's 'great luck'. Extortion is what I call that....trying to frighten me into using their outrageously priced company. Terrible people. Stay away from this company. They have a similar BBB complaint for trying to take advantage of an elderly woman. I'm not elderly, but I am a woman. It was insulting for someone to think I am so helpless and gullible. read more

I have been using Al & Robin Torres plumbing and heating for years. I have a Glendale home built in 1931, so there are always weird issues coming up. Just this past week I had to replace my old oven. The old one was electric and I wanted gas. Sam came over with his team ( after coordinating all of this ahead of time) and ran the gas line and installed the oven. Of course there were issues with the delivery, etc. but Sam stayed right there and made sure everything went smoothly including going back to his house to get an appliance dolly because the idiots at Pacific Sales (Best Buy) would not bring the oven in the house because they were not installing it (!!) Called Al and Robin Torres on a recommendation to see if they could install and air conditioner in a rental property that didn't have an attic space. They came in a saw the situation and were able to install a ductless unit. The installation went smoothly and works wonderful. Not long after the unit in my parents home went out and again I contacted Al and Robin and they were able to install a better unit then what was installed before. In addition, they were able to install new duct work to correct the shoddy work the person that initially installed the unit performed. Zero stars. Steer very clear of these people. So they appear to be family run, responsive, have been in business a long time, and claim to specialize in older homes. This was my experience: 1) they came to fix a leaky toilet. It continues to leak. They came to fix again. It continues to leak again. The next plumber identified that they installed the wrong part 2) they installed a garbage disposal on the kitchen sink. They installed it incorrectly and then when it started leaking said it would cost $350 to take apart etc. The next plumber said the original installation was not correct, showed where they had not sealed properly 3) when they found some plumbing problem that was going to be over $1000, they were smirking and chuckling while giving me the news. Really funny 4) they scheduled a plumber to do an install . Guy didn't show up. When I told them I was disappointed, it was just a "what am I going to do" smart aleck response. They have about 30 trucks funded by the plumbing needs of the area. You'd think they could've sent someone else. Be careful with plumbers. Inexperienced people do not know how to diagnose problems and can be seriously overcharged. But also, just a mis-exeution of simple tasks and a pack of professionalism read more

We woke up in the morning to discover wet carpets in two rooms indicating a water leak. This needed immediate attention. Robin answered the phone at 7am and we had John and his team here within the hour. Determined was a cold water line leak. They arranged for leak detector guy, who was excellent, and fortunately found leak in wall, rather than slab. THS had pipe fixed immediately, and connected us to a great water restoration guy, Mike at AAA Deflooding. Not a great thing to happen, but the professionalism and fast response of all involved prevented worse damage than we experienced. Will definitely use THS again. Absolutely the worst HVAC service ever. My 90-year-old father contacted them when our furnace was not working. John and Craig came out and checked the thermostat and the unit. Thinking my father was old and wealthy (or maybe stupid), they claimed that the gas control switch was no longer working and if they could find the part (original unit from when the house was built in 1960) it would be $1800 to replace and $4500 for a whole...new..:furnace. I called Air-Tro in Monrovia for a second opinion and not only was the gas control switch working but the whole furnace was fine and kicked right on when the red igniter button was pressed on. We have never turned it off but can only guess who might've. Hmmm... Maybe these guys should focus on NOT trying to sell people systems they don't need and just doing what we asked which was to fix it. So upset that I wasn't home and wasn't there to fend these guys off. read more

It all started with a leak...a leak that converted the living room into a swimming pool ! I called three different plumbers and Al and Robin Torres Plumbing responded immediately. The problem turned out to be MAJOR, but they presented all the alternatives for resolution ( and the costs). They got to work and solved the problem. We were so pleased with the quality of their work and the professionalism of the staff that we went ahead and remodeled three baths and the kitchen. Not only did they handle the basic plumbing but they had the staff to do the plaster and paint work. As we were finishing up we decided to go ahead and have Torres Plumbing and Heating replace the ancient heating and air conditioning systems. They carefully discussed our options and made suggestions for the best system for our type of home and for an easy to read and control thermostat. Throughout the entire process their focus was always on the impact that the work would have on our family. They arrived on time and their employees were unfailingly polite. I was adding another review on Yelp and noticed that I was listed as having 1 previous review. This was inaccurate, since I had 2 reviews. However, when I looked up my reviews, I saw that my review of Al & Robin Torres Plumbing & Heating had been erased! I'm not blaming Yelp, because I think I did this myself somehow, when I went in to make a correction. (I'm new to Yelp.) Anyway, I'm rewriting my recommendation for this company, and really, it is a better to write at this time, since it has been a little while since the work was done. Sometimes, work I've had done in the past with other companies looked good at first, but didn't stand the test of time. This is not the case with this company. Al & Robin Torres Plumbing & Heating did a lot of work for us. We have an older home and had been meaning to upgrade for years. Their company was recommended to us by a neighbor, who had had extensive work done and was very pleased. Those folks told us that their mother had used this company for years and wouldn't go to anyone else. That sounded good to us, so we hired them. Everything they did was absolutely first rate. We added central air and heating, replaced our old plumbing with copper, had a washer and dryer installed in the garage, put in a new water heater, upgraded one bathroom and our kitchen and more. Their work was quality all the way - quality materials, quality work, quality execution, quality cleanup - and the people were so nice. They truly cared about our project. Al and Robin Torres plumbing and heating was prompt on answering my phones calls as well as sending plumbers to my residence to access all issues I had been having with my plumbing. I have an older home which needed many upgrades and replacements especially with plumbing. The team of plumbers Sam, Josh, German and Samuel all had have come to work on my home and they are well experienced, knowledgeable and very friendly. I had called on them for many jobs within the last few years. I needed a new water heater, they replaced it. My water line to the fridge had corroded, they replace that as well. And just this week an old pipe that ran to the back yard burst. They located that old 1950 pipe under the ground which ran underneath the house. It was fix quickly and now is working beautifully. Torres rebuilt my old 1940's floor heater that sits behind & under brass grates between two rooms, under the hardwood.. They are prompt. efficient and Sam & partners were respectful of my home: They scraped feet on the mat before entering & wore paper slippers over their workboots. The rebuild and installation happened within the few days that were specified. There was a bit of an issue with an aroma --I got nervous, turned off the heater, opened all windows & called So. Cal Gas. Gas company said the smell was just dust & cobwebs that had never been shaken up or cleaned out, Old unit emitted no smell at all, so Torres came back within a couple of hours after receiving an email about the new smell. With the same efficiency and consideration, the heater got a good vacuuming. The cleaning was just done & it''s too warm for heat right now, at this typing. I'll amend this, if I must, when the weather gets colder and the heat's on--but as of right now: Happy with the quality of work and the service and care by all.
