First time here. A little slow for food to arrive but I really think that was because everything is made to order. Server suggested we try the Fahsa which is like shredded lamb. Very tasty. Piping hot. Of course the hummus was next level and great with warm pita. Definitely will return.

Went there on Wednesday with Mary Clark and the International Tour group. We go to a different international restaurant every two weeks. There was over 50 people that came this week. That tills you how good it was a lot of them had been there before. This was my first time at this restaurant and I will be back I got the falafel sandwich and hummus they were both really good. And the prices were great. They have a Lotta other entrées and sides you can get also. But everyone at our table loved their food. They were warned that there was going to be 50 of us but they handled it very well food came out quick and hot. The employees were very friendly.

I found a new favorite middle eastern restaurant here. There is a lot of space in the dining area and a large menu featuring your favorite middle eastern cuisine. Service was very fast and the whole dinning room is very clean. I shared the huge variety plate of kabobs with my son as well as a plate of hummus and one of the largest pieces of pita bread. The shish kabob plate come with plenty of excellent rice and pickles and onions. The chicken and lamb were excellent and I still have two other kinds for leftovers as I could only eat half of my share of the plate. My son ate all of his share and loved it. They also provide a great soup with the dish as well. I highly recommend checking this restaurant out and is as good as eating directly in Istanbul without the plane ticket.

Visiting Indianapolis for a day trip, we had not made any plans for dinner. Had heard about an Indian Restaurant that was the best in Indiana, and drove there first. It was actually closed for a week. With that out of the picture, just decided to drive down Lafayette Road, and found quite a few restaurants from around the world. At 38th street and Lafayette, we found Patel brothers and a Halal Supermarket in a strip mall. Contained within the same mall was a Biryani Restaurant (closed in the mid afternoon) and we found Al-Rayan Restaurant. We walked in to a lovely atmosphere and 2 folks greeted us at the door. Loved the options for seating: booth, table, covered booths with a table, and covered booths with an option to sit on the floor. We choose a covered booth with a table. Our service was very prompt and kind. We had water. We ordered the hummus beiruti with oil, parsley and paprika, a falafel sandwich and shish kabab. Now on the menu, I'm vegetarian so I had some appetizer options, hummus, falafel, and tabbouleh. The hummus came out first. It was beautiful, along with a warm piece of lavaash. The hummus was delicious, the way it should be. It was light, airy, and so flavorful. Our entrees came out following that. The falafel sandwich came with fresh fries with a wonderful seasoning. The shish kabob was flavorful with a aromatic rice. There was Franks Red Hot Sauce on the table so I used that to have in addition with the falafel sandwich. The food was so flavorful. The wait staff was so kind. They came in and checked on us frequently to make sure we were doing ok. We even asked what the seasoning was on the fries, one of the staff actually brought us some to take home when we asked. Our service was prompt. The food was delicious. The space was so clean and well kept. It was so inviting. I've already snacked on the leftover hummus I brought home. Looks like we have more reasons to go back to Indianapolis, Al-Rayan is at the top of the list.

This place was in my checklist right from 2018 and was able to successfully check it off last week. This restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine. Loved the ambience as it was Mediterranean style too with multiple seating options including sitting on the floor or in the dining table in a private space. Open space seating is also available. Food was equally good as well. This place served the best Mendi rice I've never ever tasted in my life so far. Been to many Mediterranean restaurants in US as well as in India but never had such an aromatic and flavorful Mendi rice like the one I had in this place. Meat that came with the rice tasted good but it was little dry. I expected something semi-gravy to go well with the rice. Ordered Shawarma, which was fabulous too. It came with French fries. Falafel was good too. It came with small salad and Tahini sauce. Ordered orange juice expecting it to be freshly made but it was from a concentrate, which was disappointing. On the downside, some of the menu entries seemed little pricey to me. They have quite a lot of options to choose from but the style of food seems to be the same but with a different meat. Some of the items were not available that day, which I think is an one-off situation. Staffs did really well, however I personally had trouble in ordering. Also the wait time for the food was quite high. This place is in a strip mall near Magoos pizza on 38th street. Plenty of parking options available.

1. This is without a doubt the best halal restaurant in Indy. Granted, there are not tons of options, but Al-Rayan is a comforting, vast, and safe space for the Indianapolis Muslim community. 2. You can sit at a table or on the ground and enjoy a more traditional eating experience. Reminded me of a great meal of rice and goat I had in Medinah, KSA. 3. I also believe Rayan is the best and truly authentic Arab restaurant in the area. It would be unfair to call this a Mediterranean restaurant, when it is wholly Yemeni, but they do have a number of ancillary regional dishes. You can get "regular" hummus, but it is so rich, it feels like a dessert. Or you can get it Lebanese style with pine nuts, or topped with meat. 4. The portions are ridiculous and gigantic! Alhamdulillah. Every dish comes with an astonishing amount of rice. The signature goat and chicken dishes for example are served on a bed of delicious rice and I always take food home. 5. If you need vegetables, your options may be rather limited; food from this region is often carb/protein rich, and vegetables are few and far between. Grab one of the salads! 6. With all of this said, the service is not great, even when I was the only customer there. You might hear people in the kitchen, but "table service" is weak. 7. No alcohol is served and no BYOB.

Worst customer service I have ever encountered at a restaurant! The waitress was extremely rude and didn't even bother to write down our order saying that she "has good memory", but ends up getting all of our orders to the wrong person at our table. We were a party of 9, had reservations but didn't receive our food for almost an hour and a half. Food came out at different times so we requested that the food come out at the same time. One of the orders were completely wrong and when a member at our table gestured for her to come to the table to let her know, she straight out said no and walked straight into the kitchen. The food was good for the most part but the customer service really ruined it for all of us. They have also increased their prices and the pictures on the menu are not representative of what we got on one of the entrees we received, the picture showed a large platter of hummus and meat, but what we got was a small bowl. We spoke to the manager at the end and he was apologetic and offered to give a reasonable discount on our meal but the entire process was rough. I understand that the new norm nowadays is short-staffed restaurants and I wholeheartedly support businesses that are doing their best, but this is an experience I've never dealt with before. I will not be returning.

This is the best Middle eastern food in the Indianapolis area! The lamb is wonderful. The hummus and baba gannoush are superb. They bake fresh bread in tandoori oven for your meal. And you must try the cardamon tea--a special secret recipe that is beyond compare!! This place is 30minutes from my home, but sooo worth the drive. We try to go at least once a week. read more

the Al-Rayan is in a part of west Indianapolis known for uniquely diverse fare....so many choices. so glad that we gave this place a try. the service was wonderful, the food was made fresh to order and was bursting with flavor. my SO and i shared the mixed grill platter, a house salad, and the baba gannouj and everything was fantastic. will definitely be back to try more! read more

Very authentic restaurant with friendly, albeit slow, service. Was not blown away by anything we ordered (#1 saltah, #6 lamb haneeth, and tabbouleh). If I were here again I would try the mixed grill or falafel - our table neighbors ordered this and both looked fantastic. read more

Love their fresh hummus and bread. Yesterday, may 13th, 2017 was my 1st time ordering at their new location. Customer service was polite and fast. However, this was not my 1st time ordering their Chicken Shawarma sandwich. I've never had issues before until yesterday. The chicken was old and burnt. My guess, it was older pieces cut up into my sandwhich. Will not give that selection another try. read more

Yesterday the kids and I met up with my cousin to eat some amazing food! We opted for the traditional seating in the floor cubicle, complete with cushions and curtains. My teen devoured lamb shish kababs and my cousin and I scarfed down mendi-chicken and rice. Chicken was very tender, it fell off the bone, and the rice was light and non-sticky. The entrees are enough to feed two people. A new favorite and recommended if you're ever on the westside of town! read more

I just tried this place and I loved the food! It's hard to find good middle eastern food in Indy, but now I have a new favorite especially for Kufta kabobs. The rice was delicious and their baba ganouj was one of the best I've ever had. We also tried the Mandi Lamb which was flavorful and tender. I got desserts to go because I was stuffed, they are from Chicago but their bakery is opening soon so I will be on the look out. Keep the deliciousness coming, I'll be back! read more

Al Rayan, this is an amazing place to get authentic middle eastern food, and eat it in an authentic way. They have bother western style seating and traditional eastern seating where you sit on the floor on pillows with a lower table. The food is so delicious, so so very delicious. The service is slower than you would normally see in the US but it's actually very typical for most of the countries in the Middle East. Food service and eating a meal in general is more of a drawn out process because things are done fresh, and the act of eating together is more of an event than it typically is in the US. That being said, I love this place, and I will totally come back! read more

This restaurant is a regular place for my husband and I. It does not look like much on the outside (low traffic strip mall), but you will be treated to a wonderful meal inside. You have to option of sitting at a table and chairs or in floor seating booths. The hummus is excellent and you must try the Adani tea. Their Mendi chicken is what I refer to "Life changing chicken" because you do not normally order chicken in a restaurant, but it is fabulous there. In addition, the Lamb and Chicken Shawarma dishes are wonderful. Attentive service and low key atmosphere. The prices are inexpensive given the quality of the dishes you are served. WOW. Just wow. This was the first time I had ever had Yemeni food, in Indianapolis of all places, and this place absolutely far exceeded my expectations. The best hummus I've ever had, and the Chicken Shish Kebabs were out of this world. I got it for take-out, and it wasn't the fastest service, but it was well worth the wait. If you're looking for Yemeni food in Indianapolis, I strongly recommend this place. PS: It's ALL halal too! read more

The food here is delicious! Menu is not overwhelmingly large, which is always a plus for me. There are options to sit on the floor here and eat as well tables. The lady who hosted/waited us was sweet and welcoming. She suggested the platter which had various grilled meat items including chicken, kebab, and lamb chunks sitting on a bed of delicious rice. We also ordered hummus with lamb meat. Everything was delicious and cooked fresh. I especially liked the naan bread they had. Will come back again when I visit Indianapolis. read more

Wow! Truly amazing food and experience. Excellent value and portions for the price. Easily in the top 5 restaurants in Indianapolis. Food is Yemeni. Our family visited here for the first time 6 weeks ago and we've already been back 4 additional times. I am ashamed to say that I was initially worried about trying Al Rayan because I am not Middle Eastern, didn't recognize most of the menu items, and was slightly worried how we might be treated. I couldn't have been more wrong! All of the staff has treated us with warmth, kindness, and respect and they are wonderful representatives for the Indianapolis Middle Eastern/Muslim community. Our waitresses were exceptional, friendly, and patient/very helpful with my numerous questions during our first couple visits. The owner's adult son comes out from the kitchen and checks in with us frequently to see how the food is and if we need anything. Restaurant is exceptionally clean and the food is a wonderful adventure of complex flavors. I recommend trying one of the family style platters or the Friday buffet for your first visit, so you can try different things. The $29 sampler platter is a huge amount of chicken and lamb, prepared several different ways, and comes piled atop a big platter of wonderfully flavorful rice and accompanied by different sauces and unlimited refills of their yummy flatbread (somewhat similar to naan). The Friday all you can eat buffet is $15.95, but includes unlimited drinks- both fountain and cans. JUST GO TO AL RAYAN and see for yourself. They have little private booths where you sit on cushions on the floor and there are curtains to close during your meal. (Fun date night idea for something different.) We ate in one of the booths during one visit, but can't when my grandson is with us- because he's 2 and the curtains won't keep him contained like a high chair. :) One last thing- TRY THE LEMONADE. It is sour and heavenly!!! We get it without mint, but I've heard the one with mint is also very good. The lemonade is $2.95- but we've stopped in a few times just for the lemonade to go. It has a whole puréed lemon in it (without the peel, of course). The lemonade shake ups at the fair will seem bland and gross after you try the lemonade at Al Rayan. The negative reviews from one and two months ago are clearly a group of people who have some kind of vendetta against the owner. I am clueless as to why, but check out google and other popular sources for reviews and you will see what I am talking about. So glad we gave this place a chance. Yum! Yum! Yum! read more

Very authentic, delicious. Everything on the menu is delicious, the rice is killer, I can't recommend this place highly enough. Don't be scared off by the arabic on the sign or the location in a strip mall - this is world class food and a hidden gem. I was so amazed by the hospitality of this restaurant. I have been to this restaurant over 55 times and it seems like the food and the customer service keeps on getting better. If you are new to this area or driving past, I certainly recommend this unique cuisine. When I eat here I feel like I am in the middle east. And ask your waiter for their special tea. read more

I have tried the chicken shish kabob, falafel, hummus, black tea. All of the above are delicious and worth the trip. When the chicken arrives at your table, the smell is heavenly. The hummus is good and the falafel is fine. I would give five stars if the falafel blew my mind but it didn't. That said, it was still GOOD! I love the black tea with milk...we visited the market afterward to buy some of the food we ordered. My kids LOVED the bread and hummus. read more

I went there with my husband and two friends after my friend read the reviews on Yelp. As one other reviewer pointed out, it did seem a bit disorganized and they had run out of food the evening we were there. However, that didn't deter us from trying a variety of dishes. Admittedly, I didn't order anything and left it up to my friend so I'm not entirely sure what was ordered. The only middle eastern resturant in town that serves food similar to food like back home. This resturant is supposed to serve Yemeni food, but it does serves other food like kabab, shawarma, hummus etc. My favorite dishes would be "fahsah". It is shredded lamb meat in a broth type of dish served with traditional bread. The only reason I'm giving them 3 star because the food might be a little be greasy, and the service mighy be a little bit better. read more

The first time coming here and we were totally not expecting what we got. We were expecting some low quality, just passable food, considering the area. But we were blown away by the sheer flavor of every dish, piping hot, perfectly spiced, hearty portions, and incredible tea. Each dish that we tried completely floored us. I was very disappointed on the service and the quality of the food. When I ordered my meal today it took more than 30 min to be prepared and when I looked into the kitchen I found them picking up the left over from other people dishes and put it in the microwave then placed in my dish to bring to me! I was like wtf! Seriously this is shouldn't happen for anybody and I used to big fan for this crappy restaurant but not anymore. read more

Our server just walked to our table and didn't write down what we wanted and he forgot one of main course orders! At the end I don't think he was even sorry. He simply didn't care. There were only two three more groups of people there, so the restaurant was not crowded at all but it took them around 35-40 minuets to serve our food. And took him ten minutes to bring me water. I'd never go there again and suggest the owner to have the servers to get trained for customer service. ( if Rayan wants to stay in business.) read more

We also ordered The Bosphorus Special, a mixed grill platter featuring doner, kofte, chicken kebab, beef kebab, Adana kebab, and chicken Adana kebab, served with vegetables and white rice. We were seated in a private room for our meal, which was perfect with a big group. The staff was very friendly and helpful, making sure that everybody had any questions answered. I appreciate that we were given to wait staff for our group size which made things move very fast and efficiently. They have some great lunch offerings and deals to get the most out of the menu. I really liked the lunch combo with the shrimp cocktail, their homemade sauce really packs a punch! We also had a special birthday and they were able to bring out a dessert for our birthday girl, and that was a great part of the experience as well.

This is a terrific Thai restaurant in the Mass Ave. District of downtown Indy. Judging by its…read morepopularity on the Monday night we visited, I'd say that's no secret to the locals. Business was quite brisk and the quality of the fare made it evident why that was. Parking is a little tricky but not too bad to navigate. There is some street parking but one of the pay surface lots or garages is probably the best bet. We spent $8.26 for two hours ($7 + fee) to park in the lot in front of the Bottleworks. It was a 3-minute walk. We were seated right away when we walked in. We were perhaps a little fortunate as I think next time I'd make a reservation. The one thing that was off-putting was the fact that they put a time limit on our meal. I thought I heard 90 minutes and my colleague thought 2 hours. We were not planning to be there any longer than that, but we all three thought that to be a negative. I understand why they do that, but they should re-think their approach to that policy. We chose to sit outside as it was a very nice evening. Their patio was nicely arranged and was a rather pleasant spot for a meal. Our server, Apple, did a good job taking care of us. The menu featured some excellent Thai and Southeast Asian choices. We started with the Spring Rolls which were wonderfully crispy and tasted very good. My colleagues had the Steak Drunken Noodles and the Chili Basil Pork and both returned good reports. I had the Penang Curry Chicken and was extremely happy with that. The spice level was perfect and it was quite tasty. Our final bill with food, drink, tax and tip was $101. At just under $34 per person, we were quite happy with the value. I'll look forward to returning.

The main floor dining like a lunch vibe, but it turned out to be a cozy choice. For appetizers, we started with the cornbread after our focaccia was unfortunately not the best. Seemed to be over-proofed. The cornbread was absolutely phenomenal and a must-have! A special shoutout to our waitress, Arya, who noticed our disappointment with the focaccia and generously brought us the cornbread on the house. That kind of service is truly memorable! I also had the beets and peaches salad, which was refreshing but a tad overdressed. Still, I couldn't resist finishing the entire dish. For my main course, I ordered the lasagna, and I can confidently say it was one of the best I've ever had. It wasn't overloaded with cheese and instead complemented by mushrooms and pesto, and surprisingly light on the stomach. My husband chose the filet and rated it an 8/10, saying he thoroughly enjoyed it. We were so full by the end that we skipped dessert. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful, and the staff was incredibly attentive throughout our meal. The only downside was the atmosphere; coming from Chicago, we expected a more bustling vibe on a Thursday night. It seems Indianapolis is a bit quieter during the week.
