I was introduced to Al's last year when my then boyfriend-now husband took me down to the Delta-so he could share with me his stomping grounds- I love a good local joint & when I walked in the door - knew this was going to be it. So let's look at the BIG picture- Food - outstanding. Some righteous gun on the menu! They are known for their steaks - and for good reason, delicious. New items on the menu, risotto - really good. The Cubano sandwich, super fun! Oh and then there are some weeknight specials - ranging from Taco's to Shepherds Pie. Drinks - Full Bar! As you can see this is a stunning Lemon Drop martini - they have local wines & ciders - Recommend-and I go back every time I go down & when I am leaving. We went on a day trip to Locke to visit the National Historic Landmark District. Al the Wop's restaurant is the only restaurant in this particular area so we decided to try it. On a Saturday around lunchtime the bar area was jumping. The restaurant area had maybe 4 occupied tables. This must be a popular place for bikers or motorcycle clubs as we saw several enter the District while we were in the Visitor's Center. There had to be at least 12 very cool and shiny motorcycles parked out front. My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. I ordered the fish and chips. The waitress, who was manning the dining area by herself, returned to our table a few minutes after taking our order to tell me she accidentally ordered the fish tacos for me. She said they were very delicious but if I wanted to change my order back to fish and chips she would do that. I went ahead and told her to just keep the order as fish tacos as it seemed to me the dish had already been prepared. The waitress did ask if I wanted the order of chips since the fish tacos were actually starters. I told her yes. Well the fish tacos were very tasty (3 of them which were a pretty good size for starters). Husband said the chicken sandwich was also very good and gave a large thick portion of chicken meat. Another person who worked in the kitchen brought out the order of chips that was suppose to come with my fish and chips order. Nice, hot, seasoned well and crispy. Just out of the deep fryer. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, nothing fancy inside either, but it has a lot of flavor. I would come back here if I visit Locke again. Oh, and BTW, the waitress didn't charge us for the order of chips she brought out later since she made a mistake on my order. I appreciated that. read more

Fantastic meal tonight. Chef Mike has got it down. Seems like the same as back in the day. We had the steak with two sides fries and spaghetti. The steak was perfect and spaghetti so good. Fries were hot and good also. Came also with pieces of toasted bread. Our server was Chane 'l and she was great. Good old school type restaurant as we like it. Whenever my work brings me home in that direction,(about once a month) I always stop for a grilled cheese ( gooey and great) and fries...can't miss the peanut butter and peppers ! But this review is because the last 3 times the grilled cheese wasn't even melted, and it was on bread "Heels" ( the end pieces) FUCN SUCKS. I tried to keep going back thinking it was just one off...but the third time was a charm for me....I'm out. Service and ambiance is top shelf ALWAYS...food has gone to hell. Just heard they got a new cook a while back...Maybe I will try again. : / read more

About a week ago I was here, I ordered brussels sprouts and a beer. The cook with deadlocks and a short beard brought me my brussels sprouts which were almost black, no green at all. I wrote a review about it and did my best to be sugar coat it as much as possible but now I'm just gonna tell it like it is... My parents & their families have been coming to Al's since before I was born and I've been coming here my whole life. The food has always been good but right now there's this guy cooking in the kitchen that has no business cooking. I was here maybe a week ago, at that time there were only about 4 other people in the whole place- so it was not busy at all. The cook gave me charcoaled Brussels sprouts. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and ate a couple but they tasted like charcoal and ash. He was rude and acted like I don't know sh!t about food. C'mon man, any idiot knows you can't let burnt food leave the kitchen. So about a week later 8/19/23 I was at Al's with family, there were 4 of us and it was a busy Saturday. We ordered our food and I asked if we could have our onion rings as an appetizer. My aunts bowl of chili was brought to the table cold and 10 minutes before anything else. She was being nice and didn't want to start eating before anyone else had their food but after a while we got her to just eat because she was hungry and now the chili was even colder. Whatever. The waitress brought out the onion rings and they were burnt so I sent them back and just had her cancel them off the order. My fish tacos come with salsa but I asked for it on the side. When I finally got them the fish was COLD and there was PESTO MAYO on my fish tacos. The same pesto Mayo that was on my daughters chicken sandwich. NO ONE PUTS PESTO ON TACOS, and the menu says they come with some kind of salsa NOT pesto mayo. The waitress explained to me that it comes with a creamy salsa, pesto was absolutely not what she described. I literally asked the waitress to touch the fish on my taco to verify that it was cold and yes, it was cold. I was starving so I ate my tacos anyway but I'm not about to pay for these tacos, so the waitress took them off the bill. A reliable source informed me that one of the waitresses had her shifts changed so that she doesn't have to serve his cooking. I'm sure waitresses have to take a lot of crap from unhappy customers when they are stuck serving this guys cooking and that ain't right! THEY are doing their job but this guy makes the whole establishment look bad. My waitress was a real sweetheart and she was doing her best so we made sure she got taken care of. This was the worst restaurant experience I've had in a long time and I hate to leave a bad review but this cook's bad for business. We'll still keep coming to Al's but I'm not getting food when this cook is in the kitchen. read more

After years of hearing how great Al's is, I finally got a chance to try it out. "Disappointed " would be an understatement. There were only two other tables ahead of us and it still took almost 2 hours to get our food. Our server all but disappeared and never refilled our drinks. We could hear the cook yelling and swearing from the kitchen. When we finally got the food, it was nothing to write home about. Cheeseburger with a burnt bun, grilled cheese with cheese not melted etc. Having said that, there's no way this place has been around as long as it has by sucking this bad. I will chalk this up to a staffing problem, and hopefully the owners will get it worked out. I would love to give them another chance in the future. read more

I wish I knew the name of the cook yesterday, so I could call ahead and make sure he is not working next time I feel the urge to go to Al's. Waited over an hour for a cheeseburger, grilled cheese and garlic fries. After 45 minutes the waitress brought us some peanut butter toast with a "sorry". After an hour of hearing the cook cussing loudly in the kitchen and the waitresses pretty much ignoring those of us in the dining area, the grilled cheese was not melted and the bun on the burger was burnt. No, we didn't send anything back or say anything. Our total time in Al's was almost 90 minutes. We weren't willing to risk sending anything back. Really disappointed after several other trips to this cool dive. read more

Took a ride out to Locke. Interesting architecture on this street. Husband had a burger w/fries = excellent he said. The burger was cooked correctly. Wife had the grilled chicken sandwich w/onion rings = excellent. Probably one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches I've had. It had a pesto sauce on it w/bacon. I probably wouldn't go in if I was just looking through the window. It's REALLY old. The restaurant is in the back and not updated, but it works for a lunch meal! It wasn't busy at all. The waitress was very nice and attentive. If you are out for a ride along the Delta, I'd recommend a stop there for lunch. read more

I had an event out in Walnut Grove and needed a spot to watch the Niner game. We found this little hole in the wall and it was such a great day... Except my Niners lost. UGG. Docker, the bartender was super fun it was really laid-back atmosphere. There were lots of TVs and lots of cheering. They were tables in back for families and the food was amazing. Very well priced. We had fish and chips and wings. All great. This is a tiny little hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere but it's awesome. Go check them out. read more

I don't get down this way very often. Hardly ever. But when I do, I'm stopping at Al's! This is an old biker bar in the middle of one of the smallest river towns I've ever seen. Bar in front, dining room toward the back. We have never been disappointed by the food or by the service. The restroom leaves a bit to be desired. It's a tiny closet of a room in the bar portion and everything you expect in a bar restroom but since there aren't many (if any) public restrooms here, you make do. My favorite thing on the menu is the BLAT. It's a thickly stacked BLT with avocado. It's something I can easily make at home, but it just tastes better coming from Al's kitchen. They do it right. I always mean to try other items, but can't pull myself away from the BLAT, so I sample what my dining companions order, and have always said, "I need to order that next time!" They have dinner specials every night of the week, so check the web site before stopping in. You may find a new favorite! Come for the food at Al's and check out the town for some unique history. You'll be amazed at what used to go on there during Prohibition. read more

The history behind this restaurant is AMAZING!! I really like this place. I've been coming here for years, primarily on my motorcycle with my friends. I always like bringing new people here for a few reasons. First, the ride there is always cool. Scenic, cool little towns, then when you drop into the actual location blows a lot of people's minds. The narrow streets, the old buildings, just makes you feel the history. Then of course, you're at Al the WOP's. Nothing better than walking a newbie into that skinny little door only to be greeted by a houseful of people sitting at the long crowded bar, standing around, sitting at the various tables, and watching them take it all in. From the stuff hanging behind the bar, to the dollars strewn across the high ceiling, put there by the lucky patrons choosing to play the game in figuring out how to get them to stay, it's mesmerizing to some who have no idea what to expect. Then, to ordering the free banana peppers and peanut butter and have to go through the process of convincing them that they really are great and finally breaking them down to try it and see the surprised look on their faces when they finally get it. Priceless. And the steak. The famous steaks that are so big they hang over the plates. But not so big that it seems unfathomable to finish the perfectly grilled juicy, fatty mess. Delicious! The steak sandwich everyone went for no longer on the menu, replaced by a hamburger. Steak still available but check prices! My "fully loaded potato skins" were 3 half potatoes with sour cream on top...$14 . Very pleasant bartender, still an interesting place to stop for a beer. This was our second visit and we brought friends! The food is so good. Everything is fresh and delicious. The Chili is just like my Nana used to make. Our friends had the fish/shrimp and chips and the BLAT. They loved everything. I had the petite steak with onion rings, so good and perfectly prepared. Drinks are spot on and reasonably priced. For dessert we had Jello Shots! Everyone is so nice and the ambiance is next level - think dive bar and roadside diner. First time to Locke! Was looking forward to checking out this interesting historical restaurant. It did not disappoint. We loved the charm of this little delta spot. The food was really great as well. It is not just a fun bar, the food was excellent! My husband had the fish tacos, very generous portions, and he really liked them. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and we both had 2 cold beers. The service was excellent and friendly and we really liked supporting this small business in the delta. If your looking for a fancy place to take a date, this is not the place. If your looking for a Delta dive bar experience with good food, Al's is the place. Don't expect white table cloths and fancy dishes. Your walking into a local iconic Delta bar / restaurant, (Not many of these left now days) the floors are sagging and lean to one side, the tables are mismatched and wobbly. You enter into the front through the bar and the dining room is in the back area, you grab a seat where you want to sit (you can also eat at the bar). At the back of the dining area is a white board that will have the specials written in red, and below that will be what they are out of written in black. A server will bring you a menu and get your drinks for you. My wife and I split the 16 Oz Big Old Steak dinner with fries and a side salad, ask for the Al's bread with peanut butter, trust me on this one. Steak and peanut butter are amazing together. The food came out pretty fast considering it was a Saturday evening, but it wasn't that busy and we were early. These old Delta places have very small kitchens and if places are busy it can be a wait for your food, so sit back and enjoy the Delta experience. We ordered our steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked with hot fries and salad with a homemade ranch dressing. We split the dinner and had a beer apiece and got out for $60 including tip, that decent for a good steak. If you get the chance, sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with one of the locals, they will tell you amazing stories of life along the Delta back in the day, and it's not all B.S. Buy them a beer and you'll have a friend for the evening. read more

Total experience not to be missed. All I can say is you have to try Al's special bar appetizer- peppers and peanut butter!! Yup, you didn't read that wrong. It almost feels like a dare, but fun to try. We also stayed for dinner which was great. Spaghetti was the special which our friend enjoyed and we tasted the chili his wife had. Both great dishes! I had the fish and chips- whole filet of fish crispy fried with great flavor and fresh. My hubby had the BLT which was yummy and huge. Now, Suzanne, the bartender made the whole experience fun and inviting. Her smile says it all. She gave us great recommendations for food and knew so much history about Al's and the town of Locke.
