It's your standard Wildwood hotel half a block from the beach. The rooms are old and dated, but overall they were clean. I really wish they'd removed the rug and just have a tile floor but still you get what you pay for. It's not the four seasons, but it's far from the worst place around. The staff are super friendly and on top of everything, we had fresh towels every day. Free coffee in the office was a nice bonus. Price was the best bang for your buck mid August in the Crest. I would def go back. They also own the hotel across the street so you can use either pool, which is a plus if one is busy. read more

This is a nice enough hotel in the Crest that has a Polynesian theme to it, and it has survived the fates of other hotels in the Wildwoods that have since been demolished for condominiums. The hotel has three floors but no elevators. However, it has two sun decks that can also double as space to dry off towels or bathing suits. Housekeeping services can be arranged upon request but are not done daily. Staff were super friendly & they also host a guest appreciation function on Wednesdays (in season), serving complimentary pizza and soft drinks/beer. The boardwalk is more than a half mile away which makes for a quieter stay. There are multi family homes under construction behind the property but the beach remains accessible and about an 7-8 more minute walk to the shore. Parking around the property is tight and if you get back after 10p, you may not be guaranteed a spot. The room interiors appear somewhat dated and signs of either rust or other water damage during the years was visible. read more

The Ala-Kai is like a place out of time. The Jersey shore is famous for its "doo-wop" hotel era, and this small motel located about 10 minutes south of the boardwalk in Wildwood Crest brings a whole lot of nostalgia- even for someone who's never been to the Wildwoods before. This Polynesian 3 story motel has all the kitschy 50-60's era theming. We stayed in an "efficiency", which is a type of room advertised all along the shore but we're still not quite sure what that means. It's old, and the room fixtures reflect that. It literally feels like you're staying at your grandma's apartment. But, hopefully your grandma's apartment was as clean and well maintained as the Ala Kai. The maid service always folds the towels into animal shapes - so cute. You can see the beach from the motel and it's about a 10 minute walk to get there. The streets are safe and navigable. There's a very traditional pool in the center, but since they purchased the property across the street, you now have access to two pools. My only complaint is they don't have a proper bike rack to tie up bikes at night. This area is very bike centered and we wound up having to tie up our bikes to the fence around the side. But no biggie. Is it glitzy and glamorous? No. Is it clean, safe, comfortable and a perfect representation of the Crest? Yes. Definitely recommended. read more

We have been coming Ala Kai, a quaint, family owned, no frills, mid-century modern motel (with a Tropical Motif) for over 20 years. Jay, Joanne, Lucas and the rest of the staff keep this place immaculate and they are more attentive and friendlier than many of the best Upscale Hotels in Colorado, West Virginia, Boston, New York & Florida (I'm not saying they were bad, just pointing out how good Alan Kai really is). That said, I can actually say that with all of the great service and family memories, 2 pools, ocean view verandas, complementary grills, and gathering areas aplenty, Ala Kai is certainly on my list of "happy places". If you are looking for a week away with your family or just your significant other, Ala Kai in Wildwood Crest should be high on your list for consideration. From the best beaches, boardwalks, Mory's Pier Amusement Park (on the boardwalk, fishing, whale watching and so much more..... The area has so much to do, you can keep coming back and still have a different vacation experience at every stay! This week we saw an air show, went whale watching, ate at several restaurants, rode bikes and shopped on the Wildwood boardwalk, visited Cape May & Sunset Beach, spent the day on the Wildwood Crest beaches (some of the nicest on the east coast) and went to the Cape May County Zoo. Husband and I found this little gem a few years ago. It was mid September and many places were closed. Perfect for a long weekend. After missing the beach for a couple of yrs due to covid, we were happy to get back in early June. Kids were still in school. So while Cape May and WW were crowded, WW Crest was empty! Lucas handled my booking and it was problem free. We practically had the place to ourselves. A little dated, but impeccably clean, with a large flatscreen. Impressed at the number of channels we had. Pool was sparkling and just a short walk from the beach. When we left each morning, we'd hang out housekeeping tag on the doorknob and always had a clean room with fresh towels AND a cute towel sculpture We look forward to staying here again! read more

We booked 4 rooms. 4 families with kids. We had a wonderful stay. Spent sometime at the pool and we used their grill to cookout. The location was so close to the beach. You could actually see the ocean from the motel room windows. The boardwalk we drove too and paid to park at boardwalk. Not far at all. Joann at the desk was absolutely a delight. They have a little gift shop in their office. There was a gentleman worker that stays in a room at the property. He walks the property quite a bit, at times I felt "watched", but considering we were doing nothing wrong, we really had no reason to worry. Just felt a little awkward at times. But he never said anything to anyone in my group. Only mentioning this because if you are planing to come and play music, and really "cut loose", this may not be the place for you. All and all this place was absolutely super clean, we had an adorable lotus flower made from towels and others had a swan. Just that added touch made them stand out some. We will definitely be back. I booked a room at this motel in July 2019 through a third party (Hotels.com) and upon arrival we had an issue with our reservation. The motel had us scheduled to arrive the following day but the staff was extremely accommodating and was able to give us a room. They apologized and even offered us late check out on our last day because of the mix up. The rooms were very clean, housekeeping did a great job with linens and towels, and the motel pool was awesome. I often saw the owners/ workers around the motel cleaning the pool, helping guests, cleaning the rooms, etc. which was nice because they were easily accessible if you needed assistance. This motel is also located right next to the beach which made lugging all of our stuff much more bearable. I honestly did not expect this motel to be as great as it was and I will probably end up staying here again in the future. The only thing that I personally did not like was that the bed sheets felt wet; they weren't, it was just SUPER humid outside and despite having the AC on it was hard to get the humidity out of the room. Overall due to the cleanliness, location, amenities, and attentive staff I would recommend this motel. read more

Recently, my lucky wife vacationed at the ALA- KAI in Wildwood Crest NJ, for a few days.Let me add, we (she) are experienced WWC vacationers, however; for the past few years have been going upscale in our lodging. Because all the other BASIC hotels and chains are $250-$300 per night. (Imagine for the Jersey) and this will be one of two July vacations.. (ala Cape COD) I mean we are not in Malibu or Santa Barbra ....Jeeze, think about the ticket on a full week, toss in food, fun, AND shopping, you could go to Hawaii. I used hotels.com and found this little gem. All the reviews on YELP and Trip Advisor seemed to be positive, so I went for it. The price was 140 a night in July, mid week. Even though I used hotels.com the Ala Kai called me to confirm my reservation. The lady was very nice and helpful over the phone. We checked in on time and had no problems with parking. The hotel location was great. It was far enough away from the boardwalk and the larger hotels. This made the spot fairly quiet. The hotel was only half block away for the beach and from the sundeck you could see the ocean. The room was clean and the air conditioner worked well. The bathroom was a nice size and was extremely clean. The pool was very clean and maintained daily. The pool only went to 4 feet. I assume due to the size of the hotel. Only stayed two days, but talking it over with my girlfriend, we would consider using this hotel for a longer stay. We will be returning. read more

Love this place! Beautiful motel only a short walk from the ocean. The staff is so friendly and very helpful with directions to getting to places around the beach. The room we stayed at on the top floor was very clean, affordable and perfect for the few days we spent on vacation. Room service was great and the pool was very relaxing as well, couldn't have asked for more. Definitely one of the best motels I've stayed at in the crest. We had an awful time here. We got scolded for our music being too loud when the motel across the street had a live band and were out until past midnight. The pool closes at 6. Roberto, a worker,decided to stay in the room next to us and kept pacing around outside to then tell us to turn our speaker off. After we asked him why he was EXTREMELY rude and kept making comments that we should never come back and kept mumbling stuff under his breath. I have never had that bad of customer service at a hotel ever. Noise complaints started at 8:00. read more

Had low expectations of a wildwood crest motel. I WAS WRONG. Spotlessly clean. Dated, but thats part of the fun. 100 yards to beach. Friendly staff with great restaurant recommendations (fish factory). Pool was perfect. This motel is great. My boyfriend and I returned for our 3rd year in a row and we had a wonderful time. We booked 5 nights and wanted to add another night! We were eventually able to and they couldn't have been more accommodating!! Great staff, clean rooms, couldn't be closer to the beach, and the pool is always nice! Family owned and you can tell. We chose the AK for a family reunion and because it was difficult to book rooms and dates at our previous hotel. We enjoy Wildwood Crest especially the kitschy hotels. About the Ala Kai...Yes, it is clean. Yes, it is family friendly. Yes, it is close to the beach!!!. Yes, there is a great sundeck over the lobby, which was adjacent to the efficiency room of one of the familys' in our party. It turned out to be a great little intimate gathering spot for communal lunches and dinners. But even for the price... Meh! No facial tissues, no ice machine, No way to have coffee in the room (coffeemaker but no hot beverage cups). No coffee in lobby. It would have been nice to be able to check weather, but with a Very slow wifi connection, and a television(not flat panel) with non-responsive remote, this was a frustrating endeavor. It was curious that the room doors open out toward the balcony. Perhaps this is to prevent the doors from blowing in during hurricanes? But with Jalousie panels in the same wall? There is a $20 key deposit. and that key only locks the door handle not the deadbolt. The staff, Jackie(sp) was helpful and friendly. Others were not so much. The room was tidied daily and the hotel grounds were maintained. Because so many in our group arrived via Atlantic city airport. without the groceries and extras. It would have been nice to have coffee/tea, or mugs/ hot beverage cups available. Consensus for our group of 24- will book elsewhere next year. read more

We were able to get a room here at the last minute, a couple of days before the holiday weekend! The staff was very friendly, Joanna went out of her way to be sure we had a nice room, we had a two room efficiency, meaning separate bedroom and a sofa bed. Word about the sofa bed, bring an air mattress for it as the mattress is about 2" thick and you feel every spring! It may be ok for little ones, but not an adult. Also, a little kitchenette with everything you need if you really are going to cook. The hotel has a nice size pool with a grill and an upper sun deck, their is parking and the beach is right down the block! Perfect for anyone that just wants to be close to the beach! You can easily walk it. It is far from the boardwalk, however, but there is a bus that runs throughout Wildwood that you can catch and it's only $1 each way...it runs until 11pm. We found this little hotel, quiet, clean and comfortable. There are a few little things that would be better....an ice machine, coffee filters in the room for the coffee maker would be helpful, maybe even a snack machine for late nights....but all in all a nice little place at a good price. Oh, you can walk to the Bayview from here too, if you'd like to go there for dinner. read more
