The Ala-Kai is like a place out of time. The Jersey shore is famous for its "doo-wop" hotel era, and this small motel located about 10 minutes south of the boardwalk in Wildwood Crest brings a whole lot of nostalgia- even for someone who's never been to the Wildwoods before. This Polynesian 3 story motel has all the kitschy 50-60's era theming. We stayed in an "efficiency", which is a type of room advertised all along the shore but we're still not quite sure what that means. It's old, and the room fixtures reflect that. It literally feels like you're staying at your grandma's apartment. But, hopefully your grandma's apartment was as clean and well maintained as the Ala Kai. The maid service always folds the towels into animal shapes - so cute. You can see the beach from the motel and it's about a 10 minute walk to get there. The streets are safe and navigable. There's a very traditional pool in the center, but since they purchased the property across the street, you now have access to two pools. My only complaint is they don't have a proper bike rack to tie up bikes at night. This area is very bike centered and we wound up having to tie up our bikes to the fence around the side. But no biggie. Is it glitzy and glamorous? No. Is it clean, safe, comfortable and a perfect representation of the Crest? Yes. Definitely recommended.

Husband and I found this little gem a few years ago. It was mid September and many places were closed. Perfect for a long weekend. After missing the beach for a couple of yrs due to covid, we were happy to get back in early June. Kids were still in school. So while Cape May and WW were crowded, WW Crest was empty! Lucas handled my booking and it was problem free. We practically had the place to ourselves. A little dated, but impeccably clean, with a large flatscreen. Impressed at the number of channels we had. Pool was sparkling and just a short walk from the beach. When we left each morning, we'd hang out housekeeping tag on the doorknob and always had a clean room with fresh towels AND a cute towel sculpture We look forward to staying here again!

    One Room Efficiency

We booked 4 rooms. 4 families with kids. We had a wonderful stay. Spent sometime at the pool and we used their grill to cookout. The location was so close to the beach. You could actually see the ocean from the motel room windows. The boardwalk we drove too and paid to park at boardwalk. Not far at all. Joann at the desk was absolutely a delight. They have a little gift shop in their office. There was a gentleman worker that stays in a room at the property. He walks the property quite a bit, at times I felt "watched", but considering we were doing nothing wrong, we really had no reason to worry. Just felt a little awkward at times. But he never said anything to anyone in my group. Only mentioning this because if you are planing to come and play music, and really "cut loose", this may not be the place for you. All and all this place was absolutely super clean, we had an adorable lotus flower made from towels and others had a swan. Just that added touch made them stand out some. We will definitely be back. Lovely place.

We have been coming the past five years so we were excited to have a nice time . We were trying to put our children to bed and baby to bed at midnight after a long day on the boardwalk when there was banging on our wall 3 times scaring the children. I called down to the front desk to report the banging and they told me that we were making noise and to be quiet because the room next to us were complaining, even though the front desk never called us once to say they were complaining. I informed them that we were trying to get two special-needs children and a baby to bed and we are doing the best we can. This was all in the span of one hour. The front desk called my room twice at 1:15 and again at 1:30 am in the morning telling us the room next to us are still complaining even though I told them we are trying to get them to bed as soon as we can. I informed them that my children were going to be falling asleep within 15 minutes and they told us if they were still making noise at 1:45 am that they would call the police or make us move out sleepy baby and autistic children to a "room next to no one" at 2 am! We were so upset and crying, trying to be very quiet and she woke up my baby with a second phone call. I talked to the manager the next day, and he apologized and told us it is not protocol to call the police unless it is a life-threatening emergency . Our children were scared, and we were very upset and he promised us to "do something to compensate us for the first night experience to make things right and to contact him when we checked out. On the day we checked out Saturday I asked for the manager and he told me that we would not be compensated because we "Trashed" the room and damaged a toilet( We called maintenance about the toilet because my autistic nephew threw a toothbrush in there and they fixed it and retrieved the toothbrush and it was working when we left the room.We spent one hour cleaning the room, collected two bags of trash, washed all the dishes, put all the towels in one area , did not have Maid service because of the children are scared of people coming in the room which I didn't even have to because they have made service included in the hotel stay. I said how did I trash the room when I did all that cleaning? they said well there was wrappers on the floor and a little bit of shampoo spilled in the living room. I was so upset. I asked to speak to the manager's boss in which Josh the manager told me " The only person ahead of me is the owner and I will not be giving you their information and you cannot contact them" when I asked for the phone number. This hotel is HORRIBLE to stay at If you have children with special needs, lie about providing compensation when they are wrong and then try to blame you on checkout for a "trashed room" just to get out of promised compensation . Please do not stay here if you have children with special needs it was very traumatizing for all of us, and I will never be returning to this hotel again!

Hands down, such a great experience all around, I truly cannot recommend this place enough! So.... Ok, you wanna head down the shore but u have dogs? It's gonna be tough right? ....Wrong!!! Sandbox accepts pets (for a reasonable fee) of all sorts and sizes so that the whole family can pack it in and have fun!!! My two boys, hubby and the 4 (Yes I am crazy ) dogs... 3 pitbuls and one 16 yr old chihuahua.... Packed up and moved into the sandbox motel for a week and I truly cannot wait to go back Rooms are clean, cool, spacious and comfortable with everything you could possibly need, all at your disposal!! We stayed in the apartment room on the first floor. It boats two generous bedrooms, large, * beds, a jacuzzi tub (that doesn't take away from the bathroom size btw) ... beautifully tiled and fully functional kitchen with all the amenities of home... coffee maker, plates, all cutlery! Cozy dinning area, closets to live in and a fabulous gas grill right outside our door! It was just perfect! Oh and don't forget? Acme, Walgreens, cvs and bars/restaurants within seconds walking from the hotel! Everyone here is just so nice and welcoming, it has a real family friendly feel Oh and the pool?! Fogettabout it hot tub? They got that too bb! I had a hard time leaving and we actually extended our trip 2 extra nights All seriousness? It's been a few since we have been down the shore, and our first time bringing all the dogs... but it was a trip well worth it and long over due and honestly? If it had been at any other hotel, I do not believe things would have been so amazing! I hope you guys enjoyed having us, bc you know we will be back Call now, it's not too late to book a weekend before the weather changes... It feels newer and cleaner. The guest rooms are spacious and bright. Both Towers have a pool, but the Ocean Tower side has a DJ on the weekend with cabanas for rent. You're welcome to bring your own adult beverages (which you KNOW we did)! That being said, it's pricey and they are not particularly accommodating about checking into your room early. We feel they could be a little more flexible on this front. If it's not 4:00 PM (or close to it) then you're not getting the keys. If you want to pay $50, then your room is miraculously ready (but not before noon). Checking in at 3:00 PM should not constitute a fee. Just sayin'. Our two-room suite was quiet, and the restaurant staff were pleasant. Unfortunately, the bathroom looked grungy with a rusted toilet paper holder and poor cleaning, and the bed was uncomfortable. Both the bedroom and bathroom were tiny, and I kept hitting my leg on the bed frame when walking around. We were handed one vague sheet of information at check-in, and when my husband went back for clarification, the front desk still couldn't clearly explain the amenities. Most of the staff were unable to answer basic questions. The towel attendant stayed on her phone, and the manager seemed "put off" when asked anything. For a hotel on the high end of pricing in the area, I expected comfort and at least a touch of "luxury." Required valet parking added to the inconvenience. I would not stay here again.
