When I made the booking, I expected to receive a vehicle similar to an Audi Q3 or a comparable compact SUV based on the vehicle class advertised. However, upon pickup, I was provided with a Hyundai Venue, which is significantly smaller and does not appear to be comparable to an Audi Q3 in terms of size, comfort, or features. I like Alamo here because it's low pressure and they get you in and out pretty quickly. If I have any tip, it's this: there's a sign near the line that will tell you that if you want to get through line faster, use the app. I did and probably three other customers who stood in line were processed out before I gave up and just went to the counter. Save yourself the trouble and if the line is short, don't bother with the app. Thinking about that app now was so frustrating that even though my interaction with the employees was quick and fine, I'm kinda mad I wasted time working on that app. read more

Costco offered a great car rental deal through many carriers at the Burbank Airport but at the time of my reservation, Alamo was the lowest priced of all of them. I'm partial to another major car rental carrier but I figured why not, try Alamo. So glad I did. Once we hiked the very long 20 minute walk from the airport terminals to the car rental desk, everything was smooth from there. We arrived on a Saturday early afternoon. The Alamo desk had one person in line ahead of us. The service was the usual checking in, paying and picking up the car just outside in the parking garage. It was quite easy to obtain the vehicle. The attendant pulled the new Town & Country minivan up in front of us, left it running while he assured us they don't care about all the scuffs and scratches on the bumpers and the body was checked to be clear from damage. We looked it over and he was gone. Got in the car and realized how different a mini van / new cars are from what I'm used to driving. So glad, we were able to flag another attendant down to get a full overview of how the basics of the car worked. That made the difference between enjoying the car immediately and suffering through what all the buttons meant. The only service fail was that the first attendant didn't ask me if I wanted an overview of how the car worked. Nevertheless, the minivan was perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed it for the week that we rented it. It was super easy to fill it up with gas just a couple of miles away from the airport and turn it in with a full tank. Returning the car to the Burbank airport was easy. You definitely need to allow another 30 minutes on top of how much in advance you want to arrive at the airport. Follow the signs to the parking garage where the car rentals go. Once you get up to the car rental level, there will be somebody there that will just take the car off your hands. I don't even think we turned off the car and they checked it in. We were off within minutes to catch our flight. A receipt was emailed to me very shortly after. read more

Wow, I was impressed with this car rental facility. Our flight arrived on Saturday around noon, there was no need for a shuttle to catch, we just walked our way to the rental car center, not too bad of a walk which included moving walkways and clear and easy signs to follow at the airport. The check-in process was indeed accelerated thanks to Phil... 5 minutes in line, 4 minutes at the counter (we declined all extras), 3 minutes to walk to the garage (right across the rental car center doors) to access our vehicle and exit the rental garage. No delays, no problems, staff was quick and professional, it was remarkable! The return process was just as easy and efficient, with a quality vehicle that met our needs during our weekend trip in SoCal. read more

Date 02 04 2026 I booked a car through Discover Cars, but when I arrived, the staff refused to accept my credit card from Lithuania, claiming it wasn't valid. Interestingly, another rental company nearby accepted the exact same card without any issues. It felt like a classic "worker scam" to force me into buying extra insurance or higher rates. Always use this location due to its convenient days/hours. Unlike other local Alamo locations, this one is open on Sundays. Since it's at an airport, there is security everywhere, so even returning my rental at midnight (after hours) seemed fairly safe with cops on patrol downstairs by the terminals. My latest rental with them was over Veteran's Day weekend in November 2022 (11/11/22 @9:24am). Super fast service at the counter. They do want proof of ID (not only your drivers license) but also with your online banking app or online proof of car insurance. They don't accept your Debit card so you'll need a "real" credit card for the deposit. As we went up check out our assigned car, we were disappointed that the service person offered us two RED cars. Call me crazy, but I still think they are moving traffic tickets for cops that say, "Hey, look at the blonde girl driving her red car too fast..." So this super nice service person (he gave us his card but I lost it!) gave us a blue convertible Mustang and showed us how to put the top down. Please give my thanks to this gentleman!!! We had a fantastic weekend as two single girls in a gorgeous blue convertible going to the Elton John concert at Chase Field in Phoenix. I reserved a car through Expedia from 7/31 at 7:15 am - 8/31 at 7 pm. Despite giving the woman at the counter the Expedia reservation # & the dates & times, she mistakenly wrote the rental return date as 8/30 at 7:30 am instead of 8/31 at 7 pm. In the rush to begin our drive & declining various things, I missed her mistake. A month later, we returned the car on 8/31 around 4 pm, several hours earlier than the original reservation required. A couple of days later I received a bill for $183.05 for the 2 "extra days" I had used the car (according to Alamo). I immediately disputed the transaction with my credit card company & Alamo. Beginning on September 2 through December 30, I had numerous telephone conversations with various Alamo representatives over dozens of hours. Everyone understood the mistake. Everyone, with a single surly exception, was very sorry, including several "supervisors" I spoke with. Alamo reps promised repeatedly it would be taken care of, that I would be called back to confirm that things had been resolved (I never received any such calls) again & again. Nothing came of this, but I continued to receive threatening emails. Several times I was routed to numbers that never picked up or left me listening to a dial tone. Finally, on 12/10, without any explanation, I received a notice that my credit card had been credited with $106.18, a number that made no sense to me but I dared to hope the matter had been resolved. But on 12/23, I received an email from Alamo's collection department telling me my rental rights had been suspended. Only on 12/30, did I do some calculations to figure out that after the credit of $106.18, if I paid the outstanding $183.05, I would have paid the same amount I originally agreed to pay through Expedia for the 7/31-8/31 rental. But no one explained this fact. After dozens of hours on the phone with at least 15 Alamo employees, no one bothered to call, text or email me about this fact. Alamo failed at the original counter & throughout this "Customer Service" & "Collections" process. I will not be renting from them again. In the last few years, I started renting sometimes from SIXT & they will now get all my business. And just as I suspected, the Customer Service response below was just PR. I navigated to the link provided. Chat response "cannot help you." "Call Customer Service," which I did. I had a 20-minute or so conversation, explaining everything above & quoting from this review. There are some frustrations like you have to go to the counter, no walk up to the car check in. Make a reservation! Do not just show up. It's close to Disneyland so few cars. Returning the car is time consuming because of how the airport is set up. Give yourself 20-30 minutes extra, on top of what you already allotted. The staff are lovely and kind. This is totally unacceptable to leave people stranded when they have a vehicle booked. I was calling around to get a ride and another Alamo person approaches me and asked if they could help. I can see THEY HAVE VEHICLES in the lot. I said I have a reservation, but I'm told there's zero vehicles. He was like yeah, we're totally out but there's an enterprise in North Hollywood, etc. So then my question is why the people who came in after me were greeted by this same man and shown to a vehicle? So, this is a pick and choose situation of who gets a car and who doesn't?! Which is another thing, if you're out of vehicles then why ask for my ID and credit card when I arrive at the counter? So, after seeing that I'm local that means I can be turned away in favor of others who are not? This seems discriminatory and ridiculous! Regardless, Alamo should notify customers who have standing reservations if there's no cars, not inconvenience them with their lack of organization and inform them when they arrive. Had a fantastic experience picking up my car at this Alamo location! Came in on a Friday night around 9pm and there was no line. I reserved a Standard SUV and was initially given a RAV-4 (Intermediate SUV). I spoke to Christian M. and asked if there was a bigger car that was an actual Standard SUV and he said someone was going to pull up with one. The staff member pulled up in a Chevy Equinox and it was the same size as the RAV-4. I expressed my concern to Christian and he said he'll go look for a bigger car. Christian ended up finding me a brand new fully-loaded Toyota Highlander and apologized for the wait due to cleaning/sanitizing -- I didn't even wait long! After getting the rental contract, you exit the doors and head across the walkway to the garage where there's a representative waiting. Show the rep. contract and he/she shows you the car. I have to take one star off because, unlike LAX Alamo location, you don't get to choose your car. I rented a premium SUV and was assigned one. LAX allows you to walk around the section of car class and choose the cars available. Fast, efficient and not crowded are pluses. Negative is lack of car options. read more

And yet, on arrival I was told that I would not be allowed to rent a luxury vehicle because I was using a debit card. This is wrong on many levels. This is another occasion where I'm departing from my usual format because I had a horrible experience. I had a reservation to pick up a rental car this past Saturday (9/1/18). I gave the attendant my license and my Visa debit card. After about 5 minutes she said that I couldn't get the rental car because they (the Burbank Airport location) don't accept Visa debit cards, although other offsite locations do. I've never experienced an issue like this before. I called Alamo just before writing this post and they (the Burbank Airport location) confirmed that they don't accept Visa debit cards if you're LOCAL. That means if you're arriving/departing from Burbank Airport you CAN use a Visa debit card. If you're from California, then you can't here. Going beyond this policy, this review is based on the matter-of-fact way the workers responded - the "oh well that sucks for you" attitude. I get it, they have an inconvenient policy. But with this type of service, why should you patron a business like this? Hey Alamo, if you respond to my review don't just write an apology and do something about it. Provide me with a credit. If you require a card, let me use my Visa debit card. Otherwise I can't recommend a business like yours. read more

Oh wait, they just log in your drivers license and credit card info and send you outside. You look like a lost puppy since NO ONE elaborates to what the process is... The key is on the dash so you get yourself situated and drive it out by following the exit signs. I do not understand why that stupid b!tch could not tell me that. And also, I do not appreciate the looks I get because I'm asking questions... When I went to return the car, I followed the signs which stated "Alamo drop off" and parked the car. A male worker inspected the car and then sent me back into the office. I walk in and the same stupid b!tch was working. She was on her personal phone talking away while i stood there. FML!!! I told her I had returned the car and they sent me inside. She did not know why. She kept telling me that she didn't know why they would send me over here and blah blah blah and then got off her personal phone. She then finally stated maybe for a receipt... I picked up my full-size car reservation that I made through Costco the evening of July 4th. I even called early that afternoon to make sure they were open because it was in fact a holiday. I wanted to make sure they weren't closing up shop early or anything like that. The nice lady on the phone assured me they would be open until 9pm that day as scheduled. I went to Burbank Airport to pick up the car. You have to enter where it says "rental car return". This is for all cars. There is no specific designation for Alamo car rentals or returns until you get into this parking lot & passed the spike strips. We found parking, walked into the Alamo booth & were greeted with hellos & smiles from the 2 staff members. I wished I wrote down their names. They were so nice & accommodating that they really should be recognized for the customer service they provided. We were even joking around with each other. It wasn't even customer service. They were just super cool people... In fact I picked up the car an hour earlier than I was supposed to & it wasn't a problem. They just adjusted my reservation accordingly so I wouldn't be charged any differently. I was hoping for an Altima because I rent with Alamo often when I travel to Las Vegas & sure enough they had one. But to my surprise it was a 2-door Altima. I didn't know they even rented 2-door cars in the full-size category. Well, the car rode & handled great. The AC was downright frigid even though it was blazing outside. And more importantly it used 1/4 tank of gas on the drive from burbank to south san diego county. I was very happy satisfied with the rental. I am extremely disappointed in my recent experience. I was unknowingly given a car that was not inspected for safety between reservations which was made known to me by the Burbank branch manager after they inspected the car upon my requesting a new car due to mechanical issues with the tire psi running a flat. Once I realized the car had more issues than just the tire, I was immediately concerned for my safety and glad to have driven 40 minutes out of my way to the Burbank location to swap vehicles. Unfortunately, the Burbank branch manager did not want to exchange my vehicle. He said San Diego did not put in an incident report and there is no way to contact them so it's best to put a claim against my insurance and then get me a smaller car (since nothing else was available). This was ridiculous, I had not been in an accident and asked for San Diego to be contacted about this issue as it was a misunderstanding. The Burbank branch manager and co manager both stated that I have 3 options; drive 2.5 hours back to San Diego (the pick up location) or 2.5 miles to Santa Barbara (the drop off location), 2nd option was to put in a claim against my personal insurance and then take a smaller vehicle (with no adjustment to price for the vehicle size difference and no accident that occurred during the vehicle being in my possession) or 3rd option go to a pep boys on the holiday weekend wait in line for an unknown amount of time then barter for a free tire and then continue my trip (this was ridiculous as it was a holiday weekend and peak rush hour and in Los Angeles a city I was unfamiliar with and how am I supposed to barter for a free tire as a customer with no paperwork stating there was a tire waiting for me or anything). As you can imagine I was ASTONISHED and APALLED that your staff was completely unhelpful and gave me these unsafe and unrealistic options. I begged the manager to understand that this is a safety issue and that it is the day before Christmas Eve and I just wanted to drive a safe car home. His demeanor alone was unsettling, completely like stone and mockingly annoyed by my concerns for road safety. Needless to say I left the Burbank branch without recovering any assistance and the tire psi was still low pressure and now being aware the car was possibly in a previous unreported and un-inspected accident, I was upset, and in tears. I drove off and called your roadside for assistance. They were in disbelief by the lack of concern I was given for the safety issue. I could barely speak on the phone call because I was in tears just telling them my name so they could look up my reservation was hard to stop crying so they could understand me. I felt like even though I was a single woman traveling alone that they didn't even care about my safety or life by suggesting I continue my trip in this unsafe car just to avoid paperwork or a conversation with another manager. Roadside was understanding and helpful. Eventually enterprise was able to exchange the car for Alamo, after a long wait at a nearby location but my trip was ruined, delayed and my anxiety driving was so high from the situation. The next morning I returned the vehicle and the branch manager at the Santa Barbara location and he was comforting, apologetic and helpful but to be honest it wasn't enough to reconcile the issue with San Diego's negligence and Burbank's lack of help and concern for safety and complete disregard for a human life. This issue needs to be handled by corporate and addressed with seriousness. This put my life and the life of hundreds of others on the US 101 highway on 12/23 at risk and that is not okay at all. read more

Job required, needed the large POS to transport all the crap from the class. Burbank Airport, Google and Siri all conspired to really f*** things up. 1. Looking for the Alamo Rental at Burbank, Both Siri and Google tell me that it's at a particular address. No obvious signage. At least, not the two times I circled the damn airport. Can't call the office, they're closed. 2. Then, figured out parking (behind the Starbucks...) and both tell me to walk East to the street. No can do, there's fencing there. Walk back around and over... and no signage for the rental (I'm on the boulevard at this point)... 3. Ask some random guy for help, he says the entrance is in back... ( kinda where I started). Walk all the way around to the back again. 4. It's upstairs (btw), and there is a line. They don't want to take my card because it's a corporate card, so I have to show them a business card. Ok, that makes it ok with the supervisor. It DOUBLES the cost when you use their insurance... 5. Then, outside and get the vehicle. Big-Really-Big Nissan SUV. Drive around (Mr Toad's Wild ride -- -no kidding, it's Interesting - --) and wait at the exit to be checked out by the airport parking guy. Then, more steep and scary and down the ramp at about a 45 degree angle. Biggest SUV I've ever driven. (Feels like a kitchen stool married the Queen Mary). Once you've done it; it would be easier. it would HELP a LOT if Alamo put directions on the voicemail on the website (phone shuts off after regular business hours, and the location is open later). Google and Apple didn't help. FUN FACTS: 1. The location for rentals is off of the main Airport drive-around, and car return is just past on the right. It takes a couple trys to find it. 2. The building listed has a BUNCH of rental agencies in it, Alamo is on the SECOND floor (ramp) and it's not obvious the first time around. 3. Google and Apple (after you parked your own vehicle...) tell you to around to the front of the building. Not happening, there's fencing in the way, and the ENTRANCE is in the back. (Once you get that dialed in, it's pretty straightforward, excepting the drive DOWN the ramps). read more

Customer service was fine for check in and car pick up. The vehicle was FILTHY with a thick layer of dirt, not dust, DIRT inside the entire SUV. By the time we were 20 minutes away we decided to give it a wipe down when we arrived at our destination, using an entire 200 count pack of baby wipes. We also found empty soda cans and miscellaneous rubbish under the seats. UNSAT. I rent cars, mainly for business, a total of two months out of each year and I've never been in a brand new vehicle in this condition. Upon drop off, the person was very professional and apologized. If there were an option for zero stars, I would still leave one since the staff was above average. Worst worst worst customer service! Rent from Alamo if you love being treated like shit! I can't believe the crap they've put me thru! My family and I went on a trip to AZ. Unfortunately we we're involved in a bad rear end accident that sent us to the hospital. We were in the middle of the desert. I called Alamo and they basically told me that we needed to take a taxi either 200 miles back to Phoenix or 200 miles to Palm Springs. Basically they were stranding My wife and I and 2 infants in the middle of the desert. After fighting with Alamo via phone while receiving medical attention at some hospital, Alamo finally towed a new car to us. This was 1 month ago. Today my credit card was charged over $600. I called the Burbank Alamo and the rudest person answered! An African American woman gave me the worst attitude. Didn't want to listen to me and talked over me. She tried telling me that I didn't purchase roadside assistance. I tried explaining to her several times that some short guy at the counter sold me the FULL COVERAGE. Told me that it includes roadside and I had the signatures to prove it. She sounded inconvenienced when she told me, "well imma have to send an email now to check that"! What a bitch! I told her my story about my accident and bad experience and she hung up on me! This is not the end of this. I have already contacted my attorney that is working on my case and Alamo is going to pay the price for all the suffering they've cause me and my family. read more

I pre-paid for gas when I rented a car from here but when I returned the rental car with over 1/3 of the tank still full they tried to charge me a different price than originally agreed upon on the contract. Reason being was it was a standard suv and not a compact. I would not pre pay for gas because its just a plot for them. They're shady look elsewhere. read more

Gloria A. Was our rep and saved us! We had a reservation with Thrifty and it was a nightmare. We were there for a medical appt and they were making us wait because they "couldn't reach their manager to find us a car". That we had reservations for. We walked over to Alamo and explained our situation to Gloria. She had us sign up and car waiting outside in a couple minutes!! Excellent customer service! Thank you! Very much appreciated! Extremely disappointed with Alamo and its staff. I reserved a 15 passenger van for a family event and when I arrived, I was not greeted with a hello. I was automatically told that they were low on vehicles and I should expect a long wait. After a 40 minute wait I was told that my vehicle would not be available. The solution I was given by the manager was that I would be given two vehicles, how they expected me to drive two cars at the same time is beyond me. I asked if the LAX Alamo had that vehicle available I would drive there, the response I received was very unprofessional. I was told they had no clue and seemed bothered by my question. With no other option, they suggested I go ask different companies to find the vehicle I desired. I was forced to go on a car rental scavenger hunt, and pay double from Avis. It's hard to put into words how horrible this experience was, it ruined my weekend. The refund process was a nightmare as well. read more

My husband and I will rent cars often for our Vegas trips. This is the first and last time we used Alamo. While I understand they need to have precautions due to theft, my issue is with them making a huge deal of the area we live in. Word of advice. Have your policies, there is nothing wrong with that annoying as it was. How about not making a huge deal based off of where people live?But to discriminate against people based off of where they live?! That's terrible. The past two years there has been fights against inequality and discrimination. And to be treated like dirt based off of where we live is pretty sad. As soon as my husband handed over his ID with his address the attitude of two particular people changed very quickly. I went here to rent a car. Not have a colonoscopy or to be treated like dirt. If you want a rent a car here, by all means...just don't bother if you are from Van Nuys because they treat people like crap. read more
