The actual salon is a bit hard to find since it's on the inner side of a building. Luckily when I went, I was able to get parking across the street pretty quickly. My hairdresser did the actual balayage very well and put the streaks in the right places. However, It was a bit lighter than I wanted though. It seemed like she had more experience doing balayage on lighter hair so the color turned out a little weird on me. I also told her I specifically do not want to bleach my hair to get the light brown color I wanted. Several of my other hair dressers have been able to give me a lighter brown color without bleach. However, she proceeded to tell me that I cannot get the color I want without bleach but it would be a very minimal amount so it wouldn't damage or dry my hair. After I agreed, I think she left the bleach on too long so it made my hair look brassy instead of the golden brown that I wanted. She completed the whole procedure in one step though so after bleaching, she didn't use toner to make my hair be golden instead of brassy. Not too happy about that part. Also, just as I suspected, immediately after washing my hair even with deep moisturizing shampoo/conditioner, my hair was very dry and fragile from the bleach. (My hair was perfectly healthy before the treatment because it was all natural hair with no split ends.) I used the groupon for this purchase and was told there would be a $20 up charge for long hair when I called earlier. After the treatment, the hairdresser told me it would be a $35 upcharge. Thankfully, the host that told me it would be a $20 upcharge kept up her word and gave me that price. Next time, I think I'll go to a salon that has more experience with my hair type/color. read more

Bought a groupon to do a keratin treatment here and unfortunately it was a big waste of money as my hair completely went back to its original frizz after the first wash. I followed all the instructions and didn't wash my hair for 3 days and used sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. My co-worker had gotten a keratin treatment here as well and said the same thing happened to her. She did say that she was able to get the treatment done again by someone else and had much better results. read more

It's been a couple of years and I wanted to leave a current review because I love this salon so much and they do such a fantastic job. I have been getting my hair colored purple for a few years now and it's really important to me that it looks professional and not tacky or too much. Rosie and Crystal make sure and get my purple to perfection. When it wasn't holding and washing out they redid it until it worked. I get so many compliments on my hair which is such a great feeling. They also always leave me with a great haircut and my hair looking healthy. Definitely go here if you are looking for perfect color that will make you feel amazing! read more

LOVE THIS SALON! I found Alanis through Groupon - bought one for a baleyage. I had no issues using the Groupon, it was pretty seamless. Overall a fantastic experience, and I'll definitely be coming back to Braelynn for my next new style and color. I only wish I got a glass of wine while I was sitting - but that's minor lol. Location - a little tough to find, good area, primarily street parking. Ambiance - lively and energetic, the stylists in general were welcoming and bubbly. Stylist - Braelynn was my stylist. She was extremely friendly and took a look at some ideas I had saved on insta. This was my first real color experience; once I told her that, she explained the process and was honest about what color I was likely to get (not likely something super light in one session). She didn't pull at my hair a ton and was great about timing the color process. The results - I went in wanting a kind of rose gold/fuschia baleyage (started with very dark brown hair), and...that's what I got! I was pleasantly surprised by how well the color took, and the fade from my roots is pretty good. read more

I hate giving bad ratings to local businesses but this one I had to post. I purchased a Groupon last year and I tried to use it April of this year. I drove over an hour to get there only to find out that the hairdresser won't be able to make it. I didn't get any calls or any texts warning me about it. They had no one else available that can take care of me so they said I will have to reschedule. That alone was disappointing enough. Well, Covid hit and Groupon deals got moved to later dates. This place rescheduled my Groupon expiration to April 2021. I called today to get this rescheduled and the lady on the phone flatly said "Nope, we don't take Groupon deals anymore". I told her my situation, that this isn't just about Groupon but a cancelled appointment that I'm rescheduling because of a NON-SHOW of the hairdresser. She just said, "Sorry, just contact Groupon customer service to receive a refund". So, why move expiration dates when you no longer take Groupons?!! Yeah... that's 2 strikes for me now and I'm not gonna let this awful customer service off the hook! read more

I went in with a Groupon, and unlike some of these reviews I was treated politely and Courtney took the time to do my hair nicely. It went from a complete trainwreck to a lovely balayage. I fully expect that many of the "mistreated grouponers" are probably people who get a great deal and perhaps don't know how to treat people who provide customer service. I'm sure this isn't true for everyone but I have a distinct feeling this is more likely the issue. I was treated like any other customer, everyone was kind and friendly and my hair stylist cut, fully dyed, performed beautiful balayage, shampooed, and conditioned my hair without rushing or sacrificing any quality on performance, attitude, or any other misc issues. I went to see Lucia twice for color correction lightening on my previously colored hair. I initially booked for a consultation to go over what I wanted and also allow her time to assess my hair for the best plan of action to give me a natural blonde color after being dyed dark brown. I gave photos for reference and was very candid about the previous color on my hair, to which she did not seem to listen or care. The general vibe was to just get the highlights done and that's not what I wanted nor why I booked the appointment. I knew this would take multiple processes and she informed of this, but proceeded to do basic foil highlights throughout the length of my hair, despite having obvious color variation from root to end. I went back a second time thinking that maybe I would get closer to what I wanted by doing it again and I was wrong. She left me with a grossly uneven hair cut and severely uneven highlights not anywhere near the goal of what I wanted. I had to have them corrected by her (she asked me to go to a different salon farther from my home which was an added inconvenience to me). This has caused me a lot of mental stress and I have not worn my hair down for months since the appointment. Go somewhere else and don't allow Lucia to do your hair. I don't typically like to leave reviews like this but it's caused me so much additional stress, and I gave them a lot of money for very poor quality work that I am now spending more to correct elsewhere. I came into the salon knowing I wanted blond balayage on my black hair. I've gotten it done before, so I understand it takes time to get to the color I want (previously, it took me 8-10 months). So I showed the stylist what I'd like as my end result and told her that I knew this wouldn't happen in 1 trip. I advised on maybe going to a brown first because I knew the blonde wouldn't be possible on the first appointment. Instead of appreciating my patience and understanding, she spoke to me in a very demeaning way and frowned at my hair for the full 10-15 minutes I sat in that chair. She spoke to me like I was a child, that with hair as dark as mine, that blonde wouldn't be possible. Had she probably LISTENED to me, instead of having an attitude and pre-conceived notion about what kind of client I was, she would've known I literally said that minutes ago. Long story short, she suggested I think about what I want for my hair. I waited nearly A MONTH to book an appointment I simply got sent home for. Will never be returning to the salon and that makes me sad because I'm sure not everyone is as cold and dismissive as Sara. Update: the salon owner replied in defense of the stylist, of course. I don't doubt that the stylist was being cautious but she clearly ignored my understanding of the process, acted like quite a know-it-all, and was very rude with her dismissive words and body language. Decent customer service would've resulted in at least the manager apologizing on behalf of a careless employee. Needless to say: I've gotten my hair done elsewhere, was listened to, respected, and pampered (check my other reviews for details). read more

Rosie has been coloring my hair for 14 years and there's few people I trust with color. After going to other salons/boutiques in the past where my ends ended up super dry and my 'highlights' looked unnatural, I won't go anywhere else. Recently, due to waiting too long to make my color appointment and needing a particular time, I tried out Bruce for the first time for my color. LOVE! I trust them both with my color and it always comes out amazing. Bruce has also cut and styled my hair and I was super happy with the results. Lastly, both my husband and son also have their haircut there each month. Their haircut is always on point with a lot of care given. Not only is she super sweet and fun to talk to, but she listened to all my concerns, advised on what would look best, and really took her time with me (4 HOURS- I have so much hair!!!) From the few times I've used Groupon for hair services, I've had poor experiences. However, my experience at Alanis was amazing. My stylist listened to my concerns from the last time I got my hair done and made sure that I didn't have the same issues again. Braelynn was very meticulous. The whole process took almost 4 hours! Additionally, the front desk attendant Tiffany is very helpful and nice. I was not happy with the color of my hair and Braelynn said I could come back and get more toner added if I still did not like it after a few days. Afraid that if I waited too long I would be given a hard time, I called the next day. Tiffany was very empathetic and did not make me feel like I was being a nuisance. I ultimately decided to just keep my hair as is, but I appreciated that both Tiffany and Braelynn wanted to make sure that I liked my hair. However, I will mention that I think Alanis herself seemed to be displeased (through her body language) that Braelynn was putting in as much time in effort into my hair, but I could be wrong. Also another inconvenience is that there's only street parking available and salon took a little extra work to locate. You cannot enter the salon through what appears the buildings "main" entrance, rather each suite has it's own entrance. I hope that this salon continues to treat all clients respectfully! Smoothed my hair down a bit but I usually get Japanese and/or the full keratin treatment so it's a mild version in comparison. My root coverup well I've had better. It looks acceptable. I purchased their Groupon which was $92 for $215 worth of service. I made my appointment and told them I had a Groupon. When I went to check out the cashier said my total was $150. I asked her if she wanted to see the Groupon and she said Oh you have a Groupon then proceeded to apply it. Obviously the "discount" they're offering on Groupon is not accurate if she was going to charge me $150 for the service I received. And that $150 included an additional charge of $39 for an additional service my stylist said I needed to blend my roots. It's a good salon and friendly staff but don't buy the Groupon the discount isn't as great as you think. Book your appointment and pay the salon directly. Which is probably better for them too. read more

This salon is clean and had a great atmosphere. However, I would not recommend it for hair coloring or hair cutting especially if you have dark or thick hair. I called in to inquire about a Groupon deal they were offering for balayage/haircut and was instructed not to purchase the deal online and still come in as they will honor the online price regardless of the voucher. I was there for 5 hours well after the salon had closed and I left with the same hair color as when I entered the salon and a triangle haircut that held all the weight at the ends. I have thick hair and I mentioned to the stylist Andre that it requires different coloring and cutting styles to make a difference. I have dark brown hair and I requested a reddish/light brown balayage and a lob style haircut. I had my hair colored on three separate occasions during the appointment each with a technique that involved foils NOT balayage and the highlights did not even show up in my hair. Additionally, I received a haircut that fit the lob description but did not fit my particular hair type. He failed to texturize the ends/remove weight from my style and I ended up with puffy triangle hair. I do not think his lack of expertise is worth even the Groupon price I paid for the services. read more

I originally gave this place 1 star because the person who colored my hair was not great (you can read the previous review below) I am now however changing it to 4 stars. When I voiced how bad my hair turned out the owner reached out to me to offer a treatment for my hair she went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable going back into the salon and made sure I was properly taken care of. I did feel the need to cut my hair but it came great and the color was fixed & blended more. They did not charge me for fixing it and everyone was very nice. I appreciate them stepping in and helping me I would go back to the salon, but not to the girl who originally had done my hair. Crystal or the owner both amazing I hate to write this review but it seems Necessary. I went in for a partial high light after having been in three months prior for color correction. I saw Pam (a friend recommended her) Pam was 20 minutes late to my appointment I almost left but right as I was about to get up she finally showed up. Big mistake I wish I left. I told her I wanted a partial so she brought out two colors which I thought was weird but I'm not a hair dresser so I try to trust in what they are doing. Pam said she has been doing hair for 10 years... I have thick hair but she is a slow foiler which is hard because one side of my head was undergoing bleach for 4 hours she never thought to look? I wasn't even aware she was putting bleach on my hair I thought we were doing a blonde highlight. Even then she didn't discuss any of this with me or seem to acknowledge we put color corrector on my hair 3 months ago. So it wasn't terrible until she started doing the top of my head and went at an angel across also her highlight weren't weaved. So straight chunky nightlight at an angel across the top of my head. Still at this point I thought ok it can still look good? I was wrong we washed out my hair. I didn't not get a trim or blow dry but I did let her brush it after where I saw her brush filled with all my hair. I stood up from the chair and asked to see the brush she hid under a towel trying to hide the hair ?? I started looking at my hair to realize I had chunks coming out and it was breaking when I told her she said oh go home and do a hair treatment? Are you serious she said it was normal. at this point im upset the highlights are chunky and let's be honest it's ugly and damaged. I went home and treated my hair to only have looked a lot closer to see how much damage was actually done. I would give Pam negative stars but that not an option the one star on here is because when I called back to tell them how I am not happy they offered to treat my hair for me. I certainly needed it. I am writing this detailed review so whom ever goes in there chooses the right person! They are very nice at this salon. Krystal treated my hair and I could see on her face how bad it was I wish I went to her to begin with :-( I am not looking at months of continuous hair treatment to restore the damage and I can't even fix this color for months . BEWARE Groupon Customers: Since we are not "full paying " clients, the salon appointment setter and manager feel they can treat you rudely and waste your time. I called to make an appointment a month ago (Groupon people can't be seen on Fridays or Saturdays since we are not full paying clients) only to be informed by the manager that I was booked with a stylist that did not except Groupon vouchers. When I explained that I called a month ago and how I was treated rudely by the appointment setter, he copped an attitude and got rude. Businesses shouldn't sell Groupons if they're not going to honor them. read more

THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. It has decent stylists, but where it fails miserably is in the customer service department. If THEY screw up, it'll be YOUR fault. I bought 2 online coupon deals for this spot. I'm a very picky customer when it comes to stylists, and I've been searching for "the right one" for a while now. If I have the opportunity for 2 coupons, I'm going to take it because it gives me a chance to truly see what the services are like and if they are worth the big $. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Alanis Salon sold me 2 coupon vouchers online, and despite the fact that the fine print explicitly allowed me to buy and use 2 vouchers on myself, I was lectured and reprimanded by the manager over the phone when I tried to make my 2nd appointment. Apparently he made a mistake with Crowdsavings (who issued the voucher) by failing to ensure they only allowed 1 voucher per customer. Yet somehow this was MY fault, and I should have known better. So I had to deal with a grouchy manager who thought it was appropriate to lecture me on this topic for several minutes, and who then told me he thought I should request a refund. Uh, so you want me to go through all the effort of dealing with Crowdsavings because YOU were awful at managing the business deals you make? So you make your failure MY problem? After several minutes of more grouchiness and grumbling, the manager did agree to grant me an appointment, with the air of a gentle benefactor magnanimously allowing a huge favor. I hung up the phone, feeling undeservedly guilty, then 15 minutes later realized I didn't want anyone touching my hair who was resenting me for doing exactly what I was allowed to do. I went through the work to refund my voucher, canceled my appointment, and I'll now be taking my business to places who appreciate the customer and take responsibility for their actions - no matter how detrimental to themselves - just like mature businesspeople should do. I could say more about the setup of the store, the quality of the cut and color, but why? You shouldn't be going here anyway. Nothing was good enough to bother commmenting on, nor was it good enough to overcome the enormous detriment of the rude and unprofessional staff behavior. read more

I have been going to Rosie for my color needs since 2008. I relocated out of state for 2.5 years and could not find anyone that got the real picture of what I envisioned my color being like she always did. It's located in a loft space that is very spacious and yet has a cozy feel to it. The decor is marvelous, very tranquil and spa like. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, which in my opinion is an important part of the experience. Although the service is excellent, I have to mention that what sets them apart is their efficiency. Time is irreplaceable, and they understand that by giving you top rate service in a manner that you're in and out in a reasonable time without sacrificing quality.the prices are very reasonable compared to other places in the city. Rosie has an uncanny ability to decipher what color you are trying to achieve. She is very easy to talk to and if you're like me and trust her opinion, you c a n just tell her to be creative and she will not disappoint with her color choices. One thing I need to mention is that if you're in the need of corrective color she is the best! That's what led me to her in the first place. After years of dying my hair black with natural veggie based dyes I was ready for a softer look. She lightened my hair and gave me an updated color without damage, which I thought was impossible until I saw it for myself. Brittany does a great job cutting and styling. She is super sweet, and pays attention to what you want. The salon also offers airbrush makeup, massages, skincare treatments like facials, and wedding packages. I've been going here for years and I always get the same top quality service. Vanessa is always friendly, listens to what you really want and makes it all happen! I'd say the prices are very reasonable considering the area and the quality. I would definitely recommend for cut and color (I've never tried the other services). I originally found this place through groupon. I just moved to Houston and needed a new stylist so I tried a bunch of places out to find the perfect fit. That's when I met Mallory! Mallory is AMAZING! I have really thick long curly hair and she always takes her time with my hair making it perfect. I used to get highlights but have since gone back to my original color. I go in for a wash, cut, and style now. I always feel and look incredible when I leave. Mallory is easy to talk to, listens to what you want, and makes sure to ask questions to get it just right. She also does make up. I've never gotten mine done by her but hers always looks natural and flawless. I would highly recommend you checking Mallory out if you're looking for a new stylist! read more

I'm writing an update to my previous review since I now also get my hair cut at Alanis Salon (Rosie primarily handles color, and she still does mine!) but wanted to brag so much on Eddy who did my cut. Like I've said before, I am super picky about who touches my hair. It took two years of going to Rosie for me to trust anyone to even cut my hair. I was feeling brave, and Eddy had complimented my hair (great way to gain trust) so I let him blow it out as a test. From the start, E had a way to relax me as a customer, talked to me and answered my questions. He totally put up with my diva-ness when it came to a trim, and he did a FANTASTIC job on my blowout. So, I booked a hair cut for the next time I came in for my color. DANG. That's all I have to say about my hair cut. It looked great, my hair was super healthy, and he is the only one who has ever been able to cut my curly hair even. BRAVO. read more

This place is such a disappointment! First of, I bought two Groupon. One for color and cut and another for full keratin treatment. When I called in to make an appointment, I was given the runaround when I mentioned I had a Groupon. Kathryn (the girl who answers the phone) says that the salon only can take one Groupon a day. I can make an appointment with another salon if I wish to use the Groupon. Or my other option was to cancel Groupon and paid for the service directly. I never understood, if Groupon is frowned upon, why do you offer a Groupon deals??? Secondly, my stylist Niloo (not sure if that is spelled it correctly) has the worst customer service! She didn't introduce herself, I had to ask. Rarely smiles unless the owner is near, then she attempts to make a conversation. She started with the one color process, tried to convince me to get the balayage. I declined. Was very rough with brushing and washing my hair. I was concerned whether she even washed my hair enough for the keratin treatment. Upon starting the keratin treatment she gave the excuse that there will be an up charge because my hair is past my shoulder. No one has ever mentioned this to me, either on the phone or at the salon PRIOR starting of service. Very misleading business! Again she was very rough and seems not to care when I told her 2-3 times that the treatment is pretty strong. My scalp starts out tingly but is now burning a little bit. When she start the blow dry session, I had to pull my head away from the blow dryer because it was burning more but not once did she ask or showed any concerns. What really tops it off was once she was done, after only 2 hrs, she handed me the mirror to look at the cut and then walked up the register to chat with the other girls. I was sitting in the chair for a few minutes before I realized I was done. Wow!!! When I made the appointment, I was told that it takes about 4 hrs. I expected to be done at 5:30-6, instead I was done after less than 2 hrs! As I am writing this, I am very upset with myself for even give her a tip! Would I go back to this place? Never! I called the salon to inform the owner of such bad service but of course was told by the girl who gave me the runaround that she was not there at the moment. Go figure... Read all the way through. I had gotten the Groupon keratin Treatment and I waited the 3 days and after the first two washes it went back to nothing. Such a dishonest business. save your money and go somewhere else. Why give them money? When you'll only end up spending more to get it redone. UPDATE: the owner of the salon called me personally and apologized and he was honestly very sincere and genuinely cared about how I felt. He was so generous to give a full refund and throw in a little perk. I would suggest giving the salon a try but make sure your STATE YOUR EXPECTATIONS. I have been looking for a new salon/stylist for months now. My last stylist had really messed up my hair by turning it orange after attempting to do a baylage. I found a Groupon for Alanis Salon and checked them out online. They had positive reviews for the most part and the pictures on Instagram and yelp seemed to me like good work. I purchased the Groupon with the understanding that I'd be seeing a certain stylist and that was fine. I called and made my appointment with no issues and waited patiently for 2 weeks to go by to finally get my hair fixed. The salon is very tucked away. I'll admit I drove by it probably 3-4 times. But after I parked and walked over it's easy to find with the cute chandeliers in the trees. I was greeted and offered a drink. After a few minutes Bruce came and got me into his chair. I explained what happened with my last hair experience and showed him what my end goal would be. And I also let him know that I understand that it may take more than one visit. He talked his plan for my hair over with me and got to work. Bruce was fun to talk to and he is so kind. You can also tell he's passionate about hair and takes pride in his work. After a few hours of foiling, processing and toning, he trimmed up my hair and gave me long layers. He completely listened to what I wanted for a cut(my hair has to go in a ponytail for work so I asked to keep it as long as possible). He blow dried my hair and turned me around. I was stunned. I had no words. It was gorgeous. It was the best my hair has looked in years. I almost cried. I live in Katy but I will drive into town to see Bruce again. He did such an amazing job and better yet made me feel confident about my hair and myself again. The icing on the cake is when my friend asked me where I went to get my hair done and I told her Alanis Salon, she immediately said "the owner Rosie has been doing my hair for 20 years" and in talking to her I knew I have found my new salon. read more
