While you may not have many other options for lunch during off-season, I'd still recommend avoiding Alaska Seafood Grill. Nothing was redeeming about my experience there - the chowder tasted off and evidently heated up in a microwave, the fish and chips were dry and tasteless, and the employees didn't look like they wanted to be there at all. Way over priced. I had the bbq chicken wrap which was $15. Insanely expensive. Not worth the money. Had few pieces of chicken and seemed like mostly lettuce. Friends had the burger which looked good- but also $15. Kids had the cheese quesadilla. I think it was lacking cheese for the $7 it costs. I wouldn't stop here unless in a pinch. Giving this place 4 stars because while we really enjoyed what we ate, we felt the prices are a tad high for the portion size. We actually came in for ice cream (the other shop was closed) and thought it smelled delicious, so we came back the next day for lunch. Regardless of price, we still are here twice. We had the halibut, cod, shrimp, and the calamari. Everything was really tasty. The garlic tartar sauce they serve wktbe everything is clearly a house made specialty...it was amazing. I ate it with everything. They were out of a few things on their menu but that certainly isn't their fault. If we ever make it back to Alaska, we'll certainly stop here for a meal. I'd like to know all the employees were super friendly and it was nice when they recognized us the second time we came back! read more

It's the price. You would think proximity and access to fresh ingredients would drive market price down but that's purely not that case here. Alaska Seafood Grill is gouging tourists. 2 baskets and 2 beers was nearly $70. Fish was fantastic but nonetheless nearly everything was fried including soggy fries. We stopped in for lunch on 08/25/2023 for a single order of halibut fish and chips. The fish filets were definitely NOT hallibut (rockfish perhaps?) and small portions. We opted for the three piece rather than the two piece platter for an $18 upcharge. The third piece of fish - not halibut - was the size of a McDonald's 1/4 pounder. Grand total with one soda was $60.75 for a mediocre lunch - no tartar sauce, no coleslaw, just a great heap of fries and three small pieces of unknown fish off the truck. Service was fast food style, Ambiance is primitive (rolls of paper towels on the tables and plastic serveware - lots of Tabasco but no malt vinegar. Two stars were due to staff attitudes and behaviors, for the most part. Service was barely civil at times and there were bouts of hostility toward some customers asking for breakfast items past the breakfast timeframe. They appeared harried and stressed--yet they weren't swamped. Scrambled eggs appeared old in the bin they were served from. My hubby said his chicken sandwich was ok. Calamari was pretty good, but there were no sauces available at the condiment station. Staff weren't stocking those items and they were pretty rude, so I didn't want to interact with them any further by asking for sauce. Ladies seated nearby ordered a seafood omelet and said it was fantastic with big chunks of crab. There was indoor and outdoor seating. To get food, you wait in line and order at the counter; then they bring you your order. When we first arrived, I got a bad vibe and I wanted to leave. We wandered around the neighborhood but unfortunately, the nicer restaurants were closed before 11am and other open nearby places were pretty dive-y, too. We wound up going back. Choices are slim around here before 11am so you may have to just brace your self for negative attitudes. read more

Terrible service. I went here with a group of friends and I was one of the first ones to order. As I waited in line to order, an employee yelled "FUCK!" from behind the counter. It was loud enough to turn heads. After ordering, a couple of my friends got their food. One friend received their calamari but not their seafood chowder. My friend kindly reminded the same employee that yelled "fuck" about his chowder. He said "we'll look into it". Time goes on and the rest of my group get their food but me and my friend's chowder. The employee then started delivering food to the surrounding tables and what they got was similar to our order. We had almost been waiting for an hour! The servers and staff were way under manned and working their butts off, but they were really nice. Understandably, the food took a long time to come out. A little pricy but overall a great fish fry. My wife and father enjoyed their halibut basket, and my mom took a gander on the salmon basket. The fries were just average, but the fish was fried to perfection and very tasty. The real stars of the meal, however, were the fried calamari and fried oysters. Dang, they were tasty, and has us all fighting over the last ones. Overall, a good meal and pleasant atmosphere with very hospitable service. My only mistake was not getting a beer with my meal. I don't know how this place doesn't have higher stars. Hidden gem if you ask me. But I'm glad I didn't have cell service to see these reviews in town or I might not have gone. The halibut fish and chips was a generous portion, light and flakey with a perfect crispy batter crunch. The seafood chowder was delicious and full of flavor. Yes it doesn't have the ambience of a higher end restaurant but the fish was fresh and delicious and that alone reflects the proper price tag. My wife and I split a three piece basket of halibut fish and chips for lunch. The food was pricey but splitting the order helped keep the cost down and there was plenty to fill us both up. Food was good but the reason I didn't give a higher score was the price and ambiance. At $34 bucks for one basket it seems like there should be a view and maybe an umbrella in my drink. After a harrowing boat ride I needed to replenish myself. This was the closest location after exiting the tour. They menu made it seem like the shrimp you would be getting 2 of for $10 were large Prawns. What I actually got were 2 regular sized shrimp. and some soggy fries. We went at a down time, nobody was in the restaurant (first sign). We were in a hurry and ordered breakfast sandwiches, bagel. Waited a significant amount of time, which was appropriate for a breakfast sandwich. We didn't realize that what we actually received were 2 horribly dry, bland bagels with a blob of cream cheese on them until we were on dock. We hadn't eaten for hours and we still couldn't choke these down. We took one of them back 2 days later (first opportunity) and told our story. After some awkwardness, no apology the guy asked us if we wanted breakfast sandwiches. We don't know if he meant as replacement or was going to charge us. We had learned from the locals that this was the worst place in Seward so we declined and walked away from our $6 bagel & cream cheese. Pass this place and go to the Breeze. read more

We got the Salmon with rice and Halibut with rice. I honestly preferred the salmon, probably because I like that fish in general. Halibut was a little chewy. They also give you two creamy sauces and a vinegar based one - all are great! One thing the restaurant could do is flavor the rice, instead of keeping it plain. Overall, quick and good experience. I had purchased some fries, as my choice didn't come with them....the cheeseburger did, except the one he replaced my paid meal with. Well, as it turned out, WORST FRIES EVER! Looked and tasted like the oil was old, overused and not up to temperature. OMG, don't order the fries.
