The bakery was very easy to find and there was plenty of parking (which is rare on Main street). I was very pleased with their wide selection of not just pastries but also the baked goods! I ended up getting an almond croissant, a cinnamon bun, two cookies, a ham and cheese croissant, oh and the Chocolate Torte. I had the ham and cheese croissant toasted for my breakfast on the go and saved the rest of my goodies for the weekend to SHARE. I had the chocolate torte later that night and it was divine. I would say it is heavy on the chocolate which I did not mind being the chocolate addict that I am. I will say one of my favorite things from here were the croissants. The pastry was light and crispy but not overly buttered. I will most definitely be back to try more things! read more

We ordered a small Princess cake and some cupcakes and gluten free brownies for our son's UVA graduation. The bakery did a fabulous job of decorating each item. And everything was delicious! We also ordered some cinnamon buns for breakfast and they were incredible as well. The bakery staff are friendly and professional and were a huge help in putting together our order. Stopped in to grab some items for my week for a change of pace from the grocery store bakery. Pro tip, as with all bakeries - arrive early for the best selection. I got the last of their croissants - big, flaky ones - and a loaf of their "epis" bread. Everything was really good. On a whim I grabbed a foccacia tart with tomato, cheese and spinach for my lunch, which turned out to be the best item. Service was fine, the place was quiet and seemed like a great spot to get some work done or have a quiet conversation with friends. read more

Everything offered by this establishment is superb. Recently for the Jewish high holidays they made absolutely incredible honey cakes that were divine. Sold out. They also make a breakfast savory with bacon and cheese that is divine with a cup of coffee. Brownies, frangipani, all sorts of delicious things come from this bakery. Came in for a quick snack with hubby and kids. I'm not sure if it was an off day for them or because it was later in the day and maybe the items weren't as fresh but I definitely was underwhelmed by our pastries and coffee. Absolutely delicious bakery with a wide variety of goods - both sweet and savory - to satisfy any craving. The chocolate cheesecake is beyond decadent - I thought that there was NO way I could finish an individual serving all by myself, but it was just too good to put down! Just about perfect. A great selection ... for takeout.

Visit yesterday left me disappointed. The currant donut was pretty good but too sweet. They could have left of the sugar on the outside. Plus it cost 2.75, which was too expensive for a donut. Their princess cupcake was dry and I didn't care for the topping. The cake tasted off such that it tasted like was made with inferior oil. I grabbed the apple cider bread to go and was looking forward to having some later when I discovered that the bottom was burnt. For a loaf of bread that set me back over 5 dollars I am quite disappointed. They shouldn't be selling burnt bread, especially at full price. I got their granola and have not had any. Fingers crossed that it will be good. read more

Nice relaxed and inviting atmosphere at the ABC. Ordered the quiche and it was lovely - fluffy, filled with many ingredients and uber tasty. The coffee is self-served and comes in only one size and two choices - Blue Ridge Roast or Decaf. Frankly expected something more than a self-service station for my cuppa joe but I guess that's why it's a baking company and not a cafe - I get it. As for the macaroons, I was weary of the prepackaged selection but a pack of 6 (Raspberry, Blackberry, Pistachio, Chocolate & Coffee) at $6.25 is affordable considering the $2+ price range back home. Unfortunately, having had amazing macaroons in the past the one's at ABC were below standard in my opinion (i.e. chalky, over-baked, overly sweet). Guess I'll have to satisfy my craving elsewhere. However, the chocolate croissant was blowy, flaky and with just the right amount of semi-sweet chocolate. Stick to the freshly baked good along the counters and you'd likely have a good meal. What an amazing place! I had their fruit tart which was both beautiful and delicious with coffee! They buy coffee only from local roastries which means the coffee beans are fresh, but unfortunately, they don't brew very frequently which really affects the quality that is why I give them 4 starts. Albemarle Baking Company is a great bakery. We've routinely been buying bread and pastries from ABC since we moved to Charlottesville this past summer. Their bread has completely replaced our grocery store loaf purchases (Pepperidge Farm, Arnold, etc). They'll slice it for you behind the counter when you buy it. It easily keeps for a week (assuming you don't eat it before then). It's slightly more expensive than the bulk produced variety but way better. Their pastries are also delicious. I've probably tried a third of what they have to offer at this point. Their Morning Buns are by far my favorite (and they have a brioche stick with custard and chocolate chips that they only make on Saturday which is also a favorite). If you come in at the end of the day (I think after 5) all of their goodies are heavily discounted. read more

I feel like ABC is *my bakery*, the place I definitely want to show anyone when they come visit. I think it fits the rare niche of bakeries that do both bread and pastries really well. The prices are totally reasonable (each item is a couple bucks at most), and if you don't want to dine in, they package items nicely to take home. They have some standard breads available every day (pain de campagne, baguettes, etc.), but they also have some additional rotating breads depending on the day of the week (apple cider bread, Jewish rye, etc.). They're all pretty fabulous. I'm impressed that it's clearly real, fresh baked bread but that it also doesn't go stale immediately. I'm not sure how they do that. They also have an awesome selection of small pastries as well as full on cakes. My favorites have been apple danishes, baby apple pies, bacon and caramelized onion quiche, a savory focaccia tart, and morning buns (croissant dough all twisted up and covered in sugar). They also have beautiful little desserts, and if you give me some time, I'll try all those, too. read more

After reading some of the reviews I decided I need to say some things about this wonderful baking Company! Most of the reviews are really good and spot on but there were a couple that made me wonder did they write about the wrong place! I have been coming to Albemarle Baking company for years and it has been my favorite place to get fresh bread, and an assortment of pastries,savory and sweet. Also cookies, cakes, quiche, focaccia, and so much more! They have an ideal location in the center of Main Street shopping areas. There is plenty of parking in the front and on either sides. I usually get my delicacies to go, but you certainly have the option of sitting at one of their small tables and enjoying the passersby through their big picture windows! There are plenty of breads to choose from that change daily. This place has the best brioche and croissants in town. They have a current doughnut that is way more dense than a regular donut therefore it is equivalent to eating about two or three donuts. It is extremely delicious and they even give you the doughnut hole! They have the best sticky buns in town (you can get them with or without nuts) I haven't tried all their cakes but the princess one is a favorite and is moist, airy and sweet to perfection. The opera cakes are also remarkable. The mini Keylime takes you back to the Florida Keys and leave you wanting more! First things first. just walk into the bakery and give your olfactory sense something to rave about. I ordered their chocolate praline crunch cake for my girlfriend's birthday, and it turned out great! the crunch was subtle but there, the mousse was not heavy at all, and the message was written on an almond-tasting piece of edible board, if you call it that. overall delectable, and despite its deceivingly small size, it can indeed feed around 8 people. i was worried when i first heard that they thought an 8" cake could feed up to 10 people, but they were right. for my cake, i paid ~$33. in my opinion, very well worth the price. when i go again, i will be trying their pastry items. read more

For mothers day i decided to get mom a box of macaroons. Her favorite. The selection is just normal nothing to fancy. I asked for about 12 assorted. They are pretty expensive at 2 bucks a piece. But hey its mom...anyway. I wait forever because she has to go to the back to get more. Then packages me u sends me on my way. I get to mom. She bites into one. THEY ARE FROZEN SOLID. Now im just annoyed. So later that day after they thaw out she tries again. Now they are so Hard they are Flaking apart like chips. She was disappointed. We ended up throwing it all out.
