Took my mom here for Mother's Day. What a great choice. Beautiful place, our food was great...especially the cod sandwich. Fried mushroom was not my favorite...but my mom picked it lol The first drink my mom didn't like ...our waiter Sean said that's fine let's try another one and she loved the second one. I can't remember the names of our cocktails but they were good, strong and sweet. I plan to visit for Sunday brunch! We made reservations but we didn't need it but after 3pm it started to get packed! Ambiance was great, but I do wish they would add some soundproofing to cut down on the noise. Restaurant was about 1/3 full and it was very loud. The service was fantastic, but the food was hit or miss at my table of 3. The crispy tofu was delicious, perfectly crisp and seasoned. Another person at my table ordered the pork belly and they were very disappointed. Pork was tough to cut and dry. The third person ordered the burger which was nothing special. Overpriced for a burger. We were disappointed that two of the main dishes were unavailable, cutting the choices down dramatically. I'm glad we tried this place out, but I think there are better options for food out there. I'd come back for some apps and cocktails and that's about it. read more

We came for Brunch and immediately loved the vibe of the restaurant -- lots of plants, natural light, and even live music! Super cute decor all around. We ordered iced coffees, but were given the vietnamese iced coffee instead, which was super sweet. Once we asked for the plain iced coffee it was better for those of us who don't usually put sugar in our coffee. The service was otherwise okay, but just very slow for us to order and to get our food. We had the carrots, which were very tasty and I'd recommend them! Sadly, they were out of the Quiche, which is what everyone in our group was planning to order. They were also out of cinnamon rolls and the oats/chia seed pudding. Not good if you have a vegan friend with you!! Our poor vegan friend's only option was a vegetable plate that wasn't on the menu because they were also out of their only vegan option, the oats. Our entrees were just okay -- the salad with chicken was fairly simple and the chicken was just plain rotisserie chicken. The potato hash was good, not great. Visited Alcove for lunch today with a work friend. Looking for a place to eat in the OTR and it looked good so decided to give it a try. Came for the Mad Tree beer stayed for the food. It was an unexpectedly great experience. No other words. It's a large place with an indoor dining room, greenhouse area, and outdoor area. Perfect for lunch or dinner. Perfect for happy hour. Perfect for hanging out with friends on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It's owned by mad tree brewing so they serve a wide variety of their local beers. For food, I had the peach and quark (farmers cheese) salad and the roasted lamb shoulder with red pepper and yogurt sauce and roasted baby potatoes (lamb was super tender and there was a ton of flavor from the sauce). Both were recommended by the attentive, personable server. My buddy had the fish sandwich (perfect thin, crispy batter) and the roasted and carrots with pesto (you'll rethink what carrots can be). All great. Even the bread and butter was exceptional with the butter having the perfect amount of sea salt. This is a local gem. Run don't walk! read more

I have been here many times with many different people, and every time they leave feeling that this is one of the best restaurant experiences they have ever had, as do I. The staff is always extremely kind and accommodating for different events and allergies. And the chefs are just as nice. No matter how busy the restaurant is, we are never waiting too long for our food, and our weight staff checks in multiple times and clears the table at what seems to be perfect moments. The food is always delicious, and due to the small menu, the chef team is able to have mastery over the dishes which always come out delicious. I recommend the bread and cheeseboard which has whipped butter as well as pickled vegetables to help clear your pallet for another delicious piece of brie. The restaurant itself is extremely aesthetic, both inside outside and in the in between green room. It is picture, and is a lovely splash of green on a brick coated Vine Street. Arrived around 5:30 and was told it would be about 1.5 hour wait for table for 2, but lucky for us there were some open seats at the bar. We stopped in after a beer festival at Rhinegeist, so we were just wearing jeans while other people were decked out in formal wear. No one made us feel uncomfortable for being underdressed, which I appreciated. My food was good, but this seems to be the type of place that has gorgeous entrees but tiny portions. I had the crispy tofu entree and it was 4 very thinly sliced tofu pieces on a small serving of vegetables and quinoa. It was lovely, but I don't know that I'd want to eat here if I was absolutely famished. read more

I like this place enough that I keep popping in to have a beer even when I'm out on the hunt for cocktails. I like Madtree beer, but I like it even more in this location I think. Service has always been nice, the ambience is lovely with all the plants. I really enjoy the 'outdoor' area. Serves as a good compromise on warm days between me and my most usual drinking buddy- she wants heat and sun, I want climate control. This gives both. I went to Alcove for the first time on the Friday of Blink. It was nice that we arrived before they got super busy. We sat on the patio. While the sun was out it was really nice. However, as the evening progressed, though the patio was enclosed, the open windows and fans made it a little chilly. Also, it was unfortunate that, to eliminate confusion, people on the patio could not order from the dining room menu and vice versa. I think they did this because of BLINK and I get it. They were trying to stay organized. I was bummed because we didn't have as many food options on the patio. I did try the chicken sliders. I wasn't expecting a pulled chicken slider. I think I was expecting the chicken to be more of a friend chicken style. I was pleasantly surprised though. The sliders were good. I also tried the house ginger beer. I personally feel like one can never go wrong with ginger beer, Moscow mule, ect but I love ginger. If you do not have as much of an affinity to ginger, you might disagree, and that's ok. MadTree's OTR restaurant and bar offers a light and airy atmosphere in one of the most happening neighborhoods in the city. Beware, this place gets busy so you might want to keep an eye out for one of those coveted bar spots, as this might be the quickest way to get yourself seated and served, especially if you have a small party. This was the route I took on my last visit when I joined a couple friends for drinks. The second taproom that I visited on my first trip to Cincinnati. Definitely a huge improvement over the first one. I only had beer, no food, and the Happy Amber, PsycHOPathy IPA and two variations of Seeing Colors Hazy IPA did not disappoint. The beertender Lauren was super knowledgeable and very friendly. super cute place with indoor and outdoor seating, we weren't aware there was only a lunch menu until 3 so i just got chicken and waffles, the chicken was super yummy, waffles were good. however the syrup was sour? and already poured over the waffle so i didn't enjoy the taste of that but couldn't avoid it already being on my food:/ With normal syrup it would have been perfect in my opinion. The space is beautiful, and the service was wonderful. I had a great mocktail-- watermelon, lime, and mint! We were there early on a Sunday, and it wasn't particularly busy. However, I was pretty disappointed in the food. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, smashburger with fries, and the half barbeque chicken with cornbread, mushrooms, corn, and zucchini. The spinach artichoke dip was underseasoned, and the chips on the side were stale. The smash burger was good, but a bit over-charred, and the fries tasted overcooked and like they had been sitting for a while. The chicken was also overcooked and chewy. I was so excited to finally make it to Alcove. We will try again and hopefully grab something different. I hope it was just an off day. read more

When my Mr told me a couple of months ago that MadTree was opening a restaurant in the Over the Rhine location, I was excited. I love Madtree and everything they stand for. Earth friendly and excellent beers. Now with a classy twist of gourmet meals. We walked in on a Saturday early afternoon and I was amazed by the decor! I was in plant heaven. So lush and vibrant! I couldn't stop taking pictures. The energy is positive and zen. There's another bar area which had a greenhouse feel with amazing lighting. The patio looked inviting and relaxing. The third floor is for events. Their menus are different for lunch and dinner. At the time we dined in, they were serving brunch/lunch. Their small plates are tapas style. It was so hard to choose. Our lunch menu: -1873 House Lager -Blackberry & mint bourbon smash -Fried cauliflower -Smoked trout spread -Sakura farm meatballs -Green Caesar salad When our food came out, I didn't know where to begin. I kept eye balling the Smoked Trout Spread. I highly recommend that dish followed by the green Caesar salad and meatballs. The salad was refreshing and balanced well with true dressing, quinoa, fried artichokes and sliced turnips. Loved the pickled onions with the smoked trout spread. The bread was super fresh! The lemon caper sauce paired well with the cauliflower bites. And last the meatballs tasted so well with the chili oil and sauce. Our server was Phil and he gave those recommendations above. Glad we went with it. He was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were so good and paired well with our meals. After our meal, we enjoyed the rest of our drinks. Relaxing to the beautiful views and admiring the plants surrounding us. What a great experience. We plan on coming back for dinner. I can't wait!!!! We made a reservation and still had to wait about half an hour before being seated. It's very very loud so would not recommend if you want to have a quieter evening. There were multiple large parties so that may have contributed as well. Service was a little slow but understandable given the dinner rush. We got a couple shareables - salad was ok, fries were wonderfully crisp and well seasoned, and the tartine was a bit bland and soggy. We ended up not finishing half of it and boxed it up. I'm definitely a Madtree fan, so when I heard about the concept behind Alcove, I knew my lady and I would have to give it a try. I really like that they choose to give it a different and unique vibe than the taproom in Oakley. It really makes for one-of-a-kind experience all-around and definitely one worth trying. My lady and I stopped by for lunch. It was a little busy but not too busy. My lady and I really loved the abundance of plants all around, especially the wall behind the bar area, which looked like a thriving jungle. Madtree definitely has its proverbial roots in appreciation for nature. Their brunch menu isn't huge but has lots of tasty options from snacks to shareables to main courses. Of course, the drinks menu is loaded with Madtree brews, cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Our server, Phil, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We started with a blackberry & mint bourbon smash for my lady and an 1873 House Lager (exclusive to Alcove) for me. Her drink was very well-made and my lager was very tasty. As for our food choices, we decided to go tapas style and order four dishes to share. We opted for the fried cauliflower, smoked trout spread, Sakura farm meatballs, and green Caesar salad. We didn't wait long at all before all of it arrived at our table. And all of it was VERY delicious! It was tough to pick a favorite dish, but the smoked trout spread seemed to be the big winner. Of course, we had to ordered a couple more drinks. I had another 1873 while my lady ordered an old fashion with Old Forrester bourbon (different from the cocktail menu version). We definitely took our time because we loved the atmosphere and all the plants around us. They really gave the place a relaxed and zen feeling. Plus the staff are all very friendly which certainly helps too. I already know my lady and I will be back for a dinner experience sometime soon. Madtree really know how to create a great experience at any location. I'm curious to see what their next project will be. I'm sure it'll be something truly unique and absolutely enjoyable...
