Best gyro around. Other foods are also pretty good! Most times when I'm in the area I almost always stop by and treat myself and always leave feeling very satisfied!

Aleko's is a carry out and delivery gem on the northern end of Hagerstown. Their Greek dishes never fail to disappoint and are full of fresh, flavorful ingredients. As a seafood lover, I enjoy the copious fish options including multiple fish sandwiches and crab cakes. The Greek specialty platters are my go-to, though, and include a bunch of meat (my pick is chicken souvlaki or gyro), veggies, feta, sauce, pita, and fries. We also enjoyed the gyro sub, packed with gyro meat, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki which is a good choice if you're in a sub kind of mood. If you're a vegetarian, they have many good options as well including meat and burger substitutes. Free delivery seals the deal for me these days during COVID.

I've heard a lot of great reviews on the steak n cheese subs from Alekos so I decided to try this evening. I ordered a 6" steak n cheese and funnel cake fries and chicken tenders for my son. The chicken tenders were the only item that I would reorder. The Funnel cake fries were basic but at almost $5.00 I expected more than TWELVE fries!! Huge disappointment and rip-off!! My Steak n cheese was made of chunks of tough fatty steak and not shaved steak as most of the cheesesteak places make. And no.... not a steak-um!! Shaved ribeye is what should be used to make a good cheesesteaks!! It was hard to eat because it was so fatty and tough! Never again!! Stick with their gyros and call it a day! Anything else is questionable.

Really good gyro! This was my first time here- drive through service was insanely fast and they let me customize my delicious gyro with some added lettuce. Yum!

What kind of vegetarian and vegan options do they have?

I haven't eaten there yet, but saw their menu and there is quite a lot! As of June 2018 they have the new vegan impossible burger, veggie gyros, black bean burger, vegan fish, spaghetti with vegan meat sauce, plus sides like hummus / dolmades / etc.

Whats more sad is that I paid $15 for something that isn't at all as advertised. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Greek Salad as I love grilled meat. Never have I had souvlaki in over a dozen voyages to Greece that was wet boiled or microwaved, as this chicken seemed to be. Souvlaki are grilled skewers. This place should NOT sell the pile of bland, blond, wet chicken breast as "souvlaki." The "Greek" salad was sad. No other way to describe it. It had the ingredients of a Greek salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) but the feta was meager and there were no onions. The tzatziki was more akin to ranch dressing (not made with yogurt- real Greek yogurt would hold a spoon standing in it. This was almost liquid.) ) and the pita was a doughy, cheap substitute. Their listing says fresh bread, and this pita was not so much. The owner seems nice and personable, and I wish him well but I also wish he would pay more attention to the product he delivers, especially if they call it, Greek. UPDATE from owners rebuttal: I write fair reviews as I experience the food. The issue is not whether you have fresh ingredients or quality chicken: it is clearly stated what you served was just not souvlaki in anyway, it was wet sautéed chicken and that was not traditional tzatziki. It was tzatziki-like sauce. Period. If you go to a pizza place to buy a pizza and you get high quality toasted bread with excellent tomato sauce and good mozzarella- it's still not a pizza, no matter the quality, and you shouldn't call it a pizza. I don't deny you are Greek, proud or otherwise, just serve what you advertise. Good luck to you too!

It was suggested for us to make reservations so we did. We arrived about a half an hour before our reservation and were seated promptly. Everybody was very nice and allowed us to basically sit where we wanted. Our waiter was very attentive, and took care of all of our needs. My wife got the Gyro Platter with rice and Lemon Potatoes. She loved it. I got the Gyro Pita with a side salad and my son got the Gyro Pita with fries. A friend of ours got the Chicken Souvlaki with Lemon Potatoes and we all lived our meals. For dessert, we all got the Chocolate Brownie, which had some whipped cream on top, and came warm. It was absolutely fantastic! We will definitely be back, but even for nights where we want to eat at home they have carryout. Give it a try. Nice place, delicious food, and very nice people. You can't lose.

The Dip Sampler and the Meat Sampler are standouts. The Dip Sampler has a variety of yummy dips and warm pita. Hummus can vary a lot in different restaurants, and this one is good, creamy with not too much garlic. We both enjoyed the Meat Sampler at our first dinner and took home leftovers - nice variety of meats. It comes with a good basmati rice but you can also choose a salad or French Fries. Gotta love a place that offers you both! This visit, I had the Moussaka Entree (gluten free) which was a special that night. It was tasty with no spice that overwhelmed the dish. Nice size slice with a salad with tomatoes. My husband had the Chicken Kebob which came with three skewers of chicken and salad (instead of the French Fries). We both took some food home especially after the Dip Sampler. We arrived around 5 pm and got the benefit of the Happy Hour price of $2 off a draft beer ($6 instead of $8) and $1 off the martini. The baklava has a generous supply of nuts, and I have enjoyed the Baklava Cheesecake at home for dessert. The restaurant decor is relaxing and attractive with thoughtful touches like a little table for your purse or to put your leftover containers on. The metal artwork tree, wicker lamps and paintings on the wall contribute to the cozy ambiance. Service has been prompt with someone coming over to greet us quickly. For my espresso martini, they had run out of espresso, but someone went to buy espresso from a coffee shop instead of telling me to order something else. Aleko's is a lovely, neighborhood gem. It is also on Resy for reservations.

It's a small mart that specializes in middle eastern Mediterranean cuisine and ingredients. They place does not have seating inside, but plenty of seating outside. So plan on either take out or picnicking. They make the food right as you order so things are fresh. The part I really liked about this place was that the sauces were not overly salted - to increase shelf life - and the amount of oil/butter was not overly used to try to mask the ingredients. It's more on the "let the ingredients speak for itself" which I really dig. In the end, you don't feel heavy after the meal and you feel like you had a hearty and healthy meal. My favorite was the lamb shawarma. He toasts the outside pita and it gives it a nice crunch. The lamb is fresher than other places and he doesn't over season it to hide the lamb smell. Other places - if you notice - tends to use cumin a lot of mask the lamb smell. Not here though. The falafel sandwich was okay. It was colder than the lamb shawarma. But the falafels were made right there in front of you. I got the sujuk sandwich too (which is a type of sausage). It was a breakfast burrito basically. Our order took 20 mins to make and he makes it right when you order. So be prepared to stay there and peruse around. Some ingredients there were interesting. The one thing that caught my eye was a bottle of pomegranate molasses. He sells it close to 50% what Harris Teeter would charge and he has various brands of pomegranate molasses. I use pomegranate molasses to make grenadine for cocktails. Also has orange blossom and rose water (also both used for cocktails) I like this place and the guy is nice and sweet.

It has been quite some time since we last dined here and we came at the right time, we were able to go right up to the counter and place our order to dine in and the staff member was very friendly and answered a few questions which was perfect. We ordered the flaming cheese and forgive me on the name that and two gyros and a water and a soda and our flaming cheese came out and the pita bread was nice and warm and naturally the cheese was flaming, hot and very flavorful and absolutely perfect. The gyros are incredible. They are filled with meat and the other essential toppings shall I say I'll rolled into a freshly heated pita. While we were eating, it really got busy to wear almost all the tables were filled, and the inside is very relaxed very welcoming and extremely clean and the staff members walking around are always checking on you to see if you need anything and if you need any refills on any of your sodas or waters. We highly recommend stopping here if you're in the mood for Greek food, they have all different type of selections from your basic Gyro to Greek fries to regular fries two more elaborate dinners, all freshly prepared and well present presented. The meat in both dishes was well-cooked and flavorful, which was definitely the highlight of the meal. However, beyond that, the bowls felt quite one-dimensional. They consisted mostly of rice, salad, and a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt, without the variety of sauces, herbs, or bold Mediterranean flavors I was hoping for. I asked for hot sauce to add some extra flavor, but the standard hot sauce available didn't help much. Instead of adding heat or complexity, it mainly contributed a vinegary taste that didn't enhance the dish. Service was a bit slow, though the restaurant was busy during the lunch rush, so that was understandable. The atmosphere was pleasant and casual, making it a comfortable place for a quick lunch. Overall, the ingredients tasted fresh and the quality seemed good, but the bowls lacked the depth of flavor and seasoning I was expecting, which left the meal feeling underwhelming.
