My first visit to this lovely salon at the London in West Hollywood was truly wonderful. My stylist was Darren Engel. I have not been this happy leaving a salon in over 10 years. I have not found anyone to cut my hair the way I was hoping. I only waited til I washed and styled my hair the first time after he cut it to see if I was just as happy at styling my hair myself to write this review. He did an amazing job and I have received so many compliments. Darren has years of experience under his belt and you can see it in the quality of service he provides. There aren't many skilled stylists who can do both cut and style nowadays. Thank you, Darren, looking forward to seeing you again. I've been coming here for years to get my hair cut and styled by Alex and Julia - they are the most talented, kind, dedicated and thoughtful people and I have not trusted anyone else with my hair for as long as I can remember. You can depend on the Alex Roldan Salon for a gorgeous hair cut and blowout, efficiency, and an overall delightful experience. I can't speak to the other services since I haven't experienced them, but I would trust these folks with anything and everything. Every time I leave feeling like a super model, even if I'm in yoga pants with no makeup on (which is true more often than not). Once the pandemic ends, one of the things I am most excited about is treating myself to a hair cut here. Darren Engel had a Groupon coupon and after looking at his work online I decided to try him, as I have long hair and that's his specialty. I am so glad I did! First off he is just the most personable, authentic, non pretentious person, who at the same time has been working with high end clientele and celebrities for 3 decades. He treated me like I was the most important client he had ever had. He took time to discuss my hair and my preferences and suggested a few minor improvements, and then he gave me the loveliest haircut ever. Now as for his blow dry...it's phenomenal! It lasted a week, even through Yoga! He is darling and talented and keeps his ego humble. Loved him! read more

I had previously had two bad color jobs where my hair was dyed black and had to wait 4 months to wash out and have original color back. I'm not high maintenance and appreciated Darren's understanding to stick with my natural color and give a natural cut. Alex Roldan saved my butt. when my boss decided to go to the white party at the last minute, i had to find a place in LA to have her hair and makeup done that was fabulous, near her hotel, and most importantly, OPEN ON THE 4TH OF JULY. unfortunately, alex roldan met only 2 of those requirements. sufficiently fabulous AND located in the london, i thought i'd sunk a hole in 1 until Joe the manager told me they weren't open on the national holiday. before my heart could fully sink out of my chest, Joe came to rescue and offered to hook me up with two amazing artistes who would come to my boss's room to do her makeup and hair to her satisfaction. he also gave me his cell phone number in case of emergency. Joe is the best--finding people like him who understand the plight of the assistant is key to my success as an assistant. And my boss was thrilled. Service was especially pricey due to it being a holiday and that the stylists worked in-suite, but in the end, worth it. also, i'm not paying the bill, so that makes it easier. i recommend giving joe a call in you're in the neighborhood. read more

I can't speak for any of the other stylists but I've been seeing mine, Dolly, for many years now. She is consistently amazing and is an expert at her craft; cut, color, you name it, she is a pro. The salon itself is always clean and Joe is the best front desk man of any salon, any where! And you never know what L.A. celeb might be getting their hair done in the chair right next to you. Valet parking at The London Hotel gets validated so it only costs you three bucks and if you feel like lunch at Gordon Ramsey's while you're at it, well you're right there. Dolly rocks, I think the world of her and she's great at what she does!! read more

Darren Engel is amazing - he has won me over! I've been looking for someone new, someone I can become a regular with. I've tried various hairdressers around town and although some were good, I never really liked them enough to become a regular. I kept looking. And now I think I've finally found my new hairdresser! Darren is a complete professional. He is highly skilled, knowledgeable, courteous, prompt and most of all, he goes the extra mile to get it right for his clients. The first time I saw Darren, he gave me an excellent haircut. I got highlights done, too. But the color wasn't quite what I wanted. I didn't say anything at first, thinking it might be the lighting inside the salon. But after getting home and looking at the color more closely, I wasn't happy with the shade so I reached out to Darren. Darren promptly returned my call and we talked about my expectations. Instead of being offended or getting huffy with me, he was so understanding and friendly! Darren simply said, "No problem. Come back in whenever you can and we'll lift the color". Wow, I was so relieved to get such a professional reaction. I went in a week later and Darren lifted my balayage highlights to the exact shade I wanted. Now I have gorgeous honey blonde highlights (exactly what I wanted) and I couldn't be happier with BOTH my cut and color. Thank you, Darren! I will definitely see you again soon. :) read more

I just had to post about one of the most incredible hair stylists ever...Darren Engel. I have been going to him for over two years now, it took me a while to find someone I really loved after moving to LA from the east coast almost 6 years ago. I had a stylist back there who I loved...once I find the right one I hold on tight! After the move I went through a lot of stylists who (forgive the pun) just weren't cutting it! Some didn't bother to get to know me, or hurried to get me out of their chair after double booking, didn't really listen to what I wanted, were overpriced or just didn't do a great job overall. Then, there was Darren Engel. I found him on Groupon and went in for a cut and color...never looked back!!! Darren is so honest, he will let me know if what I'm asking for is realistic, whether he thinks it's a good idea for my coloring and face shape, etc (because I ask for his advice.) He takes his time with me, I have never once felt rushed and he always makes me feel like a priority when I come for my appointments. I leave with my hair looking stunning every single time, I get compliments galore. His prices are totally competitive for the area as well. To top it all off, he is a genuinely kind hearted, warm human being. I enjoy chatting with him while he works his magic. I also should mention that the salon itself is lovely and even though it's upscale, I have never once felt like it was a snooty environment. Everyone is very nice and I always feel comfortable. This salon gave me the BEST haircut of my life. It is 2 months later and I'm petrified of going anywhere else (sadly I don't live in LA and can't make it out for at least a few months thanks to large events coming up) lest I mess this cut up. It seriously looks better every day. I have no idea how that's even possible, but that's the truth. I had a tiny issue with my color - wanted it about 2-3 shades darker - and my colorist happily stayed after hours and fixed it without causing a fuss at all. I also had a manicure which was great; the manicurist wasn't your typical airhead and we had a fantastic discussion about literature. She recommended this incredible book to me that's become one of my favorite reads. The receptionist was incredible - funny, interesting and super sweet, and very accommodating. I live right by the London Hotel and never knew there was a hair salon located inside. I purchased a groupon for a hair cut and blow dry with Darren. The groupon was very affordable but I walked out with a million dollar hair cut and blow dry!! Darren was so informative about my hair but what I even enjoyed more was his focus on detail. I walked in with a long bob and I just needed it to be shaped and thinned out. He took his time, asked me questions about my hair and what I wanted while he was trimming away. He has great bed side manner and really don't see that much with hairdressers. The salon itself was very nice. It's located in the back of the gift shop. The salon has big windows facing Larrabee Street. The first desk people where very nice and attentive. I will be back! read more

Seriously, I have big, poofy, wavy hair that is very hard to manage and somehow with Nikki's cuts my hair lays perfectly! Flora is simply the BEST colorist in Los Angeles. I've been getting my hair highlighted for years, and have tried all the ritzy salons in Beverly Hills, NYC and beyond, I was never thrilled. Then I saw a woman with amazing, gorgeous natural looking hair and I asked her who did her hair. She raved about Flora, that was 5 years ago and I've been a devotee ever since! I just got the most amazing conditioning smoothing system treatment from Flora at the Alex Roldan Salon in the London Hotel. My hair is naturally straight but has been getting frizzy and has been losing its shine as I get older. Flora recommended this smoothing, anti-frizz treatment and I love, love, love my hair! I went in for the Keratin hair treatment, which is about $350 and up. When I got there, my stylist, Julia said that my hair was too short to do it but eventually did it. I didn't want to wait 72 hours to wash it so she did another procedure instead. When we were done, she told me if I liked the result I should come back. The salon didn't charge me anything for the work that day! I would definitely go back! I will go back next week. read more
