Dropped by mid-week for a complimentary tasting expecting 2 maybe 3 pours but were treated to 5 pours and a cave tour on top. Very unexpected and super generous, thank you! We took a welcome taste of sauvignon blanc out to the cave, then finished up the set inside at the bar. Pedro was a delightful host, answering all our geeky questions about the wine making process, oak barrel sourcing, fermentation and storage lengths, etc. The main tasting room is cozy, standing room at a short bar, and adorned with historical pieces like portraits of the owners and horse saddles. We had the best time here! Made a reservation in advance for seven people and did a tasting. Make sure to sit outside! The view and grounds are absolutely stunning. Mark B was such an excellent host, super knowledgeable about the wine, and so friendly. He said that they do two tours a day of the wine caves and we were lucky enough to catch one. We loved this winery! The cave tour was fascinating, and the staff were incredibly friendly and easygoing. They're currently running great specials--a 50th anniversary free tasting and 50% off select bottles. If you join their wine club, you also get 50% off any wine that day. My husband especially loved their $100 cab --we were very close to joining just to snag a few bottles. We mostly drink whiskey at home, but this might make us reconsider next time we're in town. Definitely a must-visit in Sonoma County. read more

Visited on a bit of an overcast winter day. That being said- things were quiet on property. I don't think I mind it though as we sat outside on the patio and had ample space to taste without feeling rushed or crowded. I could see this being busy and loud during the spring or summer but it was quiet enough during our visit that my kiddos got a nap in without being disturbed. I felt like the pricing for the tasting was more than fair. They "free poured" our tasting which was larger than the average winery. I loved the wine we tasted but don't feel like I learned much about the vineyard itself or how their specific wines are made. Not sure if that was because our sommelier was trying to be conscious of our sleeping babies or because we didn't look the "part" as others did get more of that convo. Our sommelier was very kind and sweet though so please don't get the wrong idea about her! Either way I'm not too concerned or upset in that regard. I appreciated the silence (kids- ya know). I valued our visit and hope to return again. Maybe in a different season as I'm sure the property is even more beautiful in the spring and summer! read more

We came in for a tasting and the cave tour which was so cool. Our guide Lucas was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about wine making and storing. The tasting was great, and very reasonably priced - $20 for the estate and $30 for the reserve. For the estate, you get to pick 4-5 wines to try, and I ended up with 5 because there was a staffing change, and they were all delicious. The setting is beautiful and you're surrounded all around by vines and mountains. read more

Gorgeous winery set in the incredibly beautiful Healdsburg. We *loved* the wines here, especially their Pinots and Merlots. Lovely location that makes for stunning photo captures. We brought our kids with us and weren't sure how that would work. But the winery had some beautiful outdoor trails that they enjoyed exploring (including a tortoise spotting :) They were also encouraged to join the winery's daily cave tour at 2pm that walked us through the wine harvesting and storage process. Was very informative and enjoyable (and different from the formal Napa wine tours that feel a bit more touristy or academic). Do stop here if you are on this side of the wine country, and you will definitely take home some bottles and wonderful memories to take back with you! read more

Our party of 4 from La Quinta did a drop in visit last week. First, the wines are remarkably good and that assessment is before considering the absolute bargain prices. In this instance bargain prices do not mean modest bottom shelf wines. The wines are very good. But, the star of this show is a wine server called Mark. This guy has it all. On our way back from a camping trip in Calistoga, we stopped by this place which was recommended by the ranger at the park that we were staying at. The place is right off Highway 29. There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating. You can also taste at the bar but since we had a dog with us, we had to sit outside. We also met 2 dogs that live there and they were the friendliest! The cost of the tasting is $20 and you can pick 4 out of their list of 6 offerings or it's $30 for their premium pre selected wines. Since the premiums were all red, I choose the $20 tasting. I tried a chardonnay, rose, pinot noir and zinfindel and the tasting is comped if you buy 2 bottles. The prices were very reasonable. I bought 2 bottles of chardonnay and it was $23/bottle. It was self service, you went back inside for the next tasting. The person at the bar who was pouring was not very friendly and was preoccupied with a large group that was expected and poured the wine and went back to prepping for the group's arrival. I didn't even get a smile when we I first entered. The pours were generous and the weather was just right, not too hot or cold. Everything I tasted was good but I preferred the chardonnay. They don't offer a food menu but a small cheese tray for $20. read more

This was one of my favorite spots when I lived in Sonoma County. Luckily we can still visit from time to time now that we live in Placer County. The wines are amazing bang for your buck. Affordable and some of the best northern CA offers. The vibe in the tasting room is relaxed with a couple furry friends who visit and the service is warm and friendly- they welcome you like family or old friends. We were well taken care of and entertained too - Michael is a great story teller, charmer and will make you laugh. Sadie is a warm, kind person who will go the extra mile to help you have a lovely experience. Stop in. You won't regret it but you might take home a case or more two than you had planned. Went here for the first time last weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. What a little gem of a place! The covered patio was perfect for unpredictable fall weather (though we did get a nice sunny afternoon). Relaxed atmosphere with pretty views. Our servers Mike and Sadie were great! Arrived at AVV and we were instantly greeted by two of the winery dogs that hang around the property. Automatically made the experience a 10/10 for us. We did a cave tour with Lucas and the experience and his knowledge made it unforgettable. We spoke to Mark for about 20 minutes after our tour and tasting and just talked sports and restaurants. The atmosphere and vibe was perfect. The entire lineup of wines are incredible. The variety of wines and price points are perfect for everyone from a casual wine drinker to an experienced somm. Pros: - Beautiful views - Two+ good tasting options - 1) 4 wines you choose for $20, 2) reserve tasting of four more expensive wines ($50 - $75) for $30; either waived with 2 bottles purchased. - Nice servers - Wide variety of white and red wines - Yummy cheese plate for $20 - Cute little store - Caves that I think you can tour (though we didn't take a tour) Cons: - None of the wines we tried were amazing IMO. 8/13/2023: Alexander Valley Vineyard is my first-born daughter, Joy's favorite vineyard because their wine is exquisitely well-crafted, i.e., we tasted the 2019 Sin Zin; however, Joy purchased the late-harvested 2018 Zinfandel for her wine collection. Moreover, Joy bought me a bottle of the late-harvested 2018 Zinfandel, too, which I was utterly shocked, surprised, and dismayed due to the fact, each bottle of the late-harvested 2018 Zinfandel costs $45.00 EACH! Ooooof~That is egregiously expensive, IMHO! Aside, the entire vineyard is neatly landscaped and the vibe is absolutely chill; however, if planning an outing here, there are only three to four tables for seating, there's no food offered here so, BYOF, and also, bring your own napkins and tableware. Ohhhh~I have a couple more FYI'S I must add: First, there are two awesomely chill dogs at Alexander Valley Vineyard's Wine tasting skulking the grounds--do not barrel up the driveway because you might run over them! In addition, I suggest not feeding the dogs unless, you ask the Owner first if, you may feed the dogs dog food or not. Secondly, if, you're highly allergic to dogs' fur and dander like I am, I highly suggest bringing your allergy medicine and wearing a face mask like I wore a face mask. read more

The single person working (both tastings and cave tour) was serving many people; thus he did not have time to explain each wine. What's better than complimentary wine tasting? Having 2 cute winery dogs will pretty much do it as well. Hattie and Shasta were such cuties and played well with our Lychee. The wines are good, they don't need to overcharge a ridiculous wine tasting fee to show that they're good. No reservations needed. The lady was friendly and we most def enjoyed our time here. Was able to visit this last weekend as I live in Roseville now - god I miss this place. The wine is great (I wish Cyrus ran through my veins instead of blood) but the service is even better. My wife and I were helped by Mike and Sally (?) I'm pretty sure I messed up her name but she was the short blonde - very bubbly! Mike was very funny and informative. His stories made us literally laugh out loud. The ambiance of this place is so natural and down to earth - just what I want instead of a snobby, pretentious and overpriced winery. What an incredible experience at Alexander Valley Vineyards! This was a trip we will never forget and have been sharing pics with our friends and family since our stay. We enjoyed the beauty of the property, and had a thoughtfully curated wine tasting, followed by a tour of the wine caves. My husband and I had the opportunity to stay in the 1860's schoolhouse, which is in the middle of the vineyard, surrounded by their farm, and stunning views. It was a surreal experience! AVV is truly a hidden gem! I selfishly want to keep it to myself so it stay this way but it's impossible not to give all the well deserved credit to this amazing place. Its day and night compared to some places that look amazing on paper/photos but are super busy tourists traps in reality. Everything was absolutely perfect and magical at AVV: the grounds, staff and, of course, their wine. When we got there around 12-ish on a Saturday, there was only one more couple, then a few more people joined but it never got super busy so it was absolutely perfect. You could tell that everyone who was there had a true appreciation for places like that as quality speaks over quantity. The cave tour was free, and way better than some I paid for; we so enjoyed learning more about AVV as well as touring beautiful grounds. Pamela was amazing, she did such a fabulous job connecting with everyone, and you could definitely feel her love and passion for the industry and AVV. The wine tasting was such a treat!! AVV also has a nice gift shop where you can purchase some spices, olive olive that they make at AVV, etc. We would come back just to visit Pamela again but everything else was absolutely perfect so really can't wait to go back! read more

Absolutely outstanding. Alexander Valley Vineyards is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Coincidentally, so were we. When I made the reservation, I mentioned that our 50th coincided with their anniversary. And man oh man did they make us feel special. A table was reserved for us with a happy anniversary sign on our table. It was made clear that we could taste whatever we wanted and a nice tray of snacks was presented to us. And the wines? Amazing! We have been members of many wine clubs (in Washington State's wine region) and never, never, have we liked every single wine we tasted. But Alexander Valley Vineyards delivered BIG TIME. From their Chardonnay to their reds (Homestead Red Blend, Merlot, Cab, Cab Franc and top of the line Cyrus) we absolutely loved every drop of their wines. We became members on the spot. These people know how to treat people well, deliver a superior experience and present absolutely wonderful wines. We will always be grateful for how we were treated, the experience we had there and the introduction to some really wonderful wines.
