The allure of soapstone is the patina and lived in quality of the stone. Their fixed bid included removing the window trim and the siding around the window to fix the leak, and to replace the window trim and siding with new materials. They removed the window trim only and then told me that the issue was with the window flashing. So they reflashed the window and replaced the window trim. They did not remove or replace any of the siding. Even though they were only at my house for 3 hours (and that included a trip to the lumber yard for supplies) I foolishly paid them $750 for this work. A few days later after a heavy rain the window leaked again. I called them and asked them to come back. I continued to call and leave messages every 4 or 5 days and finally got someone to answer my call. They said they would come out in a week. Another few weeks went by and they still had not come out. I continued to call and email. Finally when I got in contact with them they said that the $750 was for that work only and they would not credit any of that amount to continue to search for the leak, even though their original bid was going to include siding removal and replacement. They were not willing to do the remainder of the work that I had paid for on the original bid. Here's my breakdown of what it cost me: $100 materials (my estimate) 2 people's labor at $108/hour for 3 hours -------- $750 It does not take two people to replace 4 pieces of wood around a window. Nor do contractors in the Seattle area get paid $108/hour
