Cannot recommend Ingrid and her team enough. Made the mistake of taking a nice suit jacket with a small hole in it to a tailor for a repair, ended up with a real eyesore of a patch job. Clearly, a reweaver should've been my first stop. Not only did the folks at Alex's erase all evidence of the aforementioned hack job, but when I got the jacket back in a mere few weeks I couldn't even remember where the hole originally was, because their reweaving work was so seamless. WOW WOW WOW! The team at Alex's Reweaving truly works magic! After a referral from my tailor, I took three pieces for reweaving / repair-- one sport coat, a pair of trousers, and a wool cardigan. The coat and trousers had small holes, while the cardigan had extensive moth damage. The repairs they made are truly INVISIBLE!!! Even the cardigan came out BETTER THAN NEW!! The team is first-class and was super helpful in talking me through the repair process and what's possible with reweaving. My husband Matt B. bought a new suit like six months ago, then wore it once and had it dry cleaned before putting it back in our closet, still wrapped in plastic. When he pulled it out to pack for a conference, he found a small but noticeable moth hole on the pocket of his pants. Matt is a level-headed guy, but that fucking moth really got him. I had to talk him out of rage buying the same suit all over again (it helped that he'd gotten it on sale and it was no longer available). Eventually, he gave in and said he could take it to Alex's Reweaving, where he'd gotten a few items fixed last year. He'd been happy with the work. The only problem was the place was never open when Matt was free. Thankfully, I had some time to run errands, and was able to take his pants in and pick them up last month. Alex's Reweaving is open from 10AM to 4PM Tuesday through Friday, definitely tough hours for anyone with a regular job. It's located on Pico near La Brea, with reasonably easy street parking in front. I walked in both for drop-off and pick-up and spent less than fifteen minutes inside, all told. It felt like a small family operation, run, as far as I could tell, by a woman named Ingrid, who greeted me on both visits. She was warm and professional, knowledgeable and straightforward in a way that inspired confidence. I gave her the whole suit and she looked it over for any other holes. She noted that it was a nice suit, and brand new, and gave back the jacket, which had thankfully been spared. She told me that the hole was fixable with a technique called a French weave, and that while she never promised 100% good as new results, it would be hard to notice any flaws when it was done. She also said the job could take four to six weeks, as they had a huge backlog, and that it would cost $95. The pants were done in under three weeks, and when I went to pick them up, Ingrid was laying out these intimidating terms--the timeline, the price--for a potential customer. She was nice about it, and so was he, but they arrived at the conclusion that for what he wanted done, he might be better off taking his clothes to a dry cleaner for a quicker, cheaper patch job. $95 is a lot to pay to fix a tiny moth hole, but it's a whole lot cheaper than consigning a new suit to ruin. I was thrilled with the result. It was honestly hard to tell that anything was done to the pants, even when I was looking. I wouldn't take any old moth-eaten sweater to Alex's Reweaving, but I'll definitely be back whenever a valuable garment is in need of rescue. read more

I have brought many of my St John Knits there to be repaired as Nordstrom's in Seattle/Tacoma Washington no longer makes such repairs. This is because when I pick the items left for repair, I can't see where the tears, rips or holes are anymore, in the many items I have left there to have repair thru the years, and they never disappoint me. Can't believe old-world artisans like this still exist in LA. I really don't understand how that do what they do. I have one very expensive suit (a gift) and ten kind of crappy ones; the moths decided they prefer the expensive one. It was unwearable. Took it in - no problem. I had maybe a dozen holes and now the suit looks brand new. They rewove all of the sections by hand using fabric for the cuff of the pants. Wowow! I was guided to Alex's Reweaving with a Jean Paul Gaultier knit dress that had pretty gnarly damage. Got it back a month later like new. Today I dropped more off and learned that steam kills the larvae. Also learned that dry cleaning will wash out the eggs and reveal more holes. I so trust their expertise. read more
