My daughter got chemical burns from their mehndi and it was very painful for her. She has scars from it.

In this slumping economy, every $ saved is just what is needed. This place is located 3 blocks from my home & not only do I love the convenience, but also the deal. For $6 you can get your eye brows threaded or waxed. Now you would think for that price they would do a crappy job--but no sirree--it is great. They also provided other services, like manicure, pedicure, massage, hair cuts/styles and mendhi (which looks awesome!). I should warn that decor & cleanliness of the place are not the best, but I can overlook that for the price. Do not mistake me, it is not a dirty place, just not super shiny & pristine. The ladies who work in the salon know what they are doing & get right to it, they are total no-nonsense. You get in & out of there pretty quickly. Wow! I was looking for a place on Devon to get henna tattoos. Google'd "henna devon" and Glamour came up. Great experience; Shaheena took excellent care of me and the prices were very reasonable. So I got my nose pierced too! I went back 2 days later to get a new ring for my nose and some more henna. Shaheena and all the ladies remembered me and again took great care of me. I asked them where I should go eat for good Indian food. It so happened that a friend was already bringing some dosa back for them so they called and had him bring me one too! Took me back to the salon "lunch room" and showed me how to put all the ingredients together and how to eat it. Gave me a soda pop even! I happily told other Indian women in the grocery store I went afterward who had done the beautiful henna. I will go back again and again to this warm and welcoming little hamlet. read more

Another one of those places in the area where you can get the eyebrow threading done for five dollars. What I like about this place is that its open seven days..most other places are closed on Tuesdays. Also, they have better hours. They open earlier and stay open later too. They have a nice, friendly staff who do a great job. read more

Clean, friendly and welcoming. I got my nose pierced from here and was pretty nervous since I was alone. The lady took me in and chose a pretty stud for me and practically held my hand as she pierced it. She explained how to clean it and all the necessary details of the healing process. The lady that helped me did a reasonably good looking job, but started rushing (painfully) in the middle of my bikini wax because her friends showed up and ended up taking more hair than I wanted off. She also charges a lot more than I am used to at an Indian salon. I guess I'll just have to keep looking. Oh and she smelled. At first I thought it was me... after all my crotch was exposed and it was 90 degrees in there, as it was everywhere, all day long, but nope. It was her. Oh well. My quest continues. Not sure who has been writing the excellent reviews for henna but my experience was not the same. The work was sloppy and impatiently done. So impatient I asked her if she was tired and needed a break. I was surprised at the audacity of this woman to draw on my hand like a three year old...gloppy ink, no symmetry and disconnected lines...all for $30. Henna hair color. I have naturally really dark brown almost black hair with a lot of silver grey creeping in. I had been using Aveda coloring products which were drying out my hair. I decided to try something more natural to get the natural texture of my hair back. I went to 2 other salons for natural/henna hair coloring. In one salon, the color of my hair was way too red (the grey hair was orange) - I went to them more then once asking them add more indigo which they did but the results were too orange. The same happened at the second salon. Then I went to Glamour. They have pre-packaged henna hair colors ( Lustrous Henna - 100% natural by Saba Botanical) so that it's easy to choose the correct color. I chose soft black. The grey coverage is great (the highlights are not orange)! They put on the color on and then I head home I wash out the henna my self (use gloves - note that anything plastic will be dyed green). My looks hair great! I highly recommend going to Lakhu - she makes sure that all your grey is covered! Only reason they're not getting 5 stars is because occasionally there is only 1 person at the shop, so you may have to wait until they finish with some threading before they get started on you. read more

Walked into this salon off the street, wanting to get my hands henna-ed. I had never had this beauty application done before, and specifically made the trip to Devon to let the pros hook it up. Ok, and maybe to have a mango lassi. I didn't choose this place by recomendation, I just literally walked in because my friends and I were standing outside of it and finally just said, "lets try this place." I was greeted by the owner, and one other employee. I explained to her what I wanted done. I think the best way to get henna done (if you aren't an insider) is just to tell the artist how much you want to spend, and then ask then what they can do for you. The owner (whose name I am forgetting) explained to me that she could do what I wanted (a design on the front and back of both of my hands) for the price I wanted. Next, she and her employee plopped me down on a chair, both communicated in their native tounge on what they agreed to do, and got to work. In 10 minutes I was finished! The designs were beautiful! Funny part-at the very end, me being the demanding, never-pleased American that I am, I asked her to add one more little design on my under-thumb. She looked at me like I was pushing it. I quickly said, just a little something, like a smiley face or something. She looked at the other woman that was doing my left hand, muttered something in her language, and they both scribbled on my request. Joke was on me! She ACTUALLY put a smile face on my thumb, while her other employee drew a beautiful flower! I couldn't believe it and couldn't decided it was her own revenge or if she really thought I wanted a smile face. So now, I have these beautiful hands, and a smile face on my right thumb! it makes for a great story! Be careful what you wish for! I would definitely come back! Went here for henna hair color. I called when they opened and Lakhu was able to see me right away. She spent about 2 hours applying henna to my hair from roots to tips. She told me to keep the henna in for about 6 hours. The next day she told me to put oil on my hair. The day after my hair was silky and a beautiful black color. Not one grey hair! It was about 5-6 weeks before the greys were noticeable again. Despite the inconvenience of having the henna on for 6 hours I highly recommend it and Lakhu. I'm not sure just any stylist would be so thorough. read more

I was a walk-in for waxing - I asked for a bikini and ended up being pursuaded to do Brazilian, which was surprizingly the same price, VERY affordable. Lakku was very quick and polite. She made me feel extremely at ease and I'd have her do it again, EXCEPT... the place was somewhat dirty. The sheet on the table had leftover wax from another client. I realized after the fact that they redip the applicator into the wax AND I even saw some hair in there when I was done. Hygenically speaking, Glamour, PLEASE step it up. You could have a ton of new and return customers at your prices and quality of service if you just cleaned up a bit. On a side note, I also had henna done on my feet. It was quick and easy, BUT I made the mistake of walking out after only about 10 minutes (when they told me it was dry) and the design got all mushed up. It was essentially a waste. Take my word - either wait much longer for it to dry or have someone come curbside to pick you up. read more

I have been going to Shaheen at Glamour for Henna hair color for almost a year now. I started to get grays in my dark black hair and that was not cool. So I started looking for a salon that uses Henna, a nontoxic, natural, synthetic-free hair color. I should have known I would end up on Devon! It's a pain to get to from my downtown abode but is is SO worth it. Henna will transform your locks with stunning color and glorious conditioning. I was in need of a mani and a pedi....I went on GROUPON and found this place....bad idea! Although the technician was nice as ever (thats why they got 2 stars) her skills an understanding of what I wanted was a 1 star at best. Bad polish job on my pedi...so I opted for clear on my nails, still had dead skin and bad cuticles on both hands and feet. Foot massage was just ok. I guess you get what you pay for! I'm pretty picky when it comes to my eyebrows' shape, and these women know their way around a thread! I worked with Fouzia the first time and she did such a great job I wanted her again the next time, but she wasn't in today (Tuesday) so I went with Shaheen, who also did a great job shaping my crazy thick eyebrows. A lot of women who I've worked with have insisted on keeping them thick and "natural" and therefore don't end up adding any kind of shape, but these women were able to thin them out a bit (but not pencil thin) and create a nice arch and shape. All for only 6 bucks! Plus they're open on Tuesdays which seems to be rare on Devon, for some reason, and they're open late (today they told me they'd be open until 9:30pm). Not sure how their other services are, but 5 stars for their threading! read more

Just horrible! I got my eyebrows done, well intended to get my eyebrows done here but ended up wasting $10 and having to go and get them done again somewhere else. Their website says that eyebrow threading is $6 but it fails to specify that it is $8 for men. The staff was nice but the eyebrow woman was clearly someone who just started threading, so pretty much yanked one hair out at a time and made no attempt to shape or made the eyebrows consistent with each other. I could have done the same work with tweezers. read more

I think its about time I express my sincere appreciation for Fozia Aunty at Glamour Beauty Salon. I'm extremely picky when it comes to someone doing my eyebrows with threading and Fozia Aunty has yet to disappoint me. Best of all, she is extremely professional, gentle, and very precise in her work. She will always listen to your requests! She mostly works in the evening past 4pm and I believe is off on Wednesdays. I've been to other places up and down Devon in the past and have gotten my hair ripped out of my face with the salon ladies being rude and half the time gossiping in Hindi on the phone. I'm desi and can finally say I've found someone with great skills to do my eyebrows on Devon! read more

This review is for a women's haircut -- which I definitely cannot recommend, unfortunately. I came in because I had a Lifebooker deal for a cut, deep conditioning treatment, and blow-dry. It turns out the normal price there for a women's cut was $10, and there wasn't any deep conditioning treatment I could discern, though I asked about it -- it seemed like she just shampooed and conditioned my hair like normal -- so the deal here was questionable. But more importantly, the cut was just awful!! Shaheen (who I believe is the owner) didn't listen to what I wanted AT ALL -- and even worse, she pretended to listen and understand, and only when she was all done did she admit that she hadn't understood what I meant and did not know how to do the kind of cut I asked. As a result, I have a cut that's the exact opposite of what I wanted!! I had very long hair and I asked for long, piecey layers, with no more than 3" off the bottom. Instead, she gave me a *short*, blunt, matronly cut, with a weird, supershort, uneven fringe around the front. She had to have taken off at least 6", so now I have to go around for half a year with my hair too short. :( And there are no discernable layers around the back -- she cut it at this weird almost vertical slant, so it just looks ragged and unhealthy. In other words, the cut is a disaster, and now I have to go to another salon and pay more to have it fixed. :( And I am really sad that she cut my hair so much shorter than I wanted. Two stars because Shaheen was nice at first (though she later got all defensive and pushy). But she is very, very difficult to communicate with. I had to fight *hard* for basic things, like getting her to put my normal part in my hair before she cut it (Haircutting 101), and I had to tell her at least 3 times that I had to leave for another appointment before she let me out of the chair (after over an hour) -- I ended up having to basically run out of there. But the fact that she's not up front about what she does and doesn't understand, or know how to do, is what bothers me most. I had misgivings about the fact that the reviews here were just for threading and henna, not the haircuts -- but now you know, stay away from the cuts! read more

Henna hair color. I went to Glamour Beauty Salon for the first time three weeks ago. I called with questions about henna since my hair had been chemically colored and I had never used henna before. Lakhu answered all my questions and told me to come in that day. Lakhu was warm and welcoming. I only waited a short time while she finished with another client. She explained the process and took care to cover the hair well for good results. I went home and left the henna on for the amount of time Lakhu indicated, so the grey hair would be colored. My hair turned out great! Like another reviewer, I also recommend going to Lakhu for making sure all your grey is covered. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE! There are major customer service issues at this salon due to the owner Shaheen who is involved with each and every transaction and even over the phone when she is not there. I was a regular at this salon for monthly waxing. On my last visit, I got my waxing done, and Shaheen tried to charge me $20 more than what was listed on the price list. Fortunately, I knew the prices so argued with her. It took me 15 minutes of arguing with her to be able to pay the price listed. I would have walked out but Shaheen would have made her worker pay for it. She is a total cheat and should not be allowed to own a business. read more

This was first time getting Henna done, so I'm still in shock from how much I love it. This very nice women named Lakhy worked on my hands. She was very helping and even addressed me by my first name as soon as I told her what it excellent Customer Service). She handed me a book to look through for ideas and to let her know what i had chosen liked the way she worked and paid attention to details I recommend her to anyone for nice eyebrows and Henna . This review is for brow threading only. In the future, when I have time, I may try the fruit facial or Mehndi art... PROS : Hands down the best brow threading! (Heres a little background) I've been to the Tiffani Kim Spa for brow$$$, then I used to go to Nikar in search of a cheaper alternative (but you don't always get the good lady there.) At Glamour, I've never had a bad brow. You know you're in good hands when the lady who threads has great brows herself! For me, the best is when I ask her to just tidy up my brows. She brings out a beautiful line. These days I like it thick and neat. If you have any preference, say so. But even if you have no input (as I did when I first came in), you walk out extremely satisfied with the way you look. CONS: For those looking for a relaxing spa day, Glamour is not that type of place. Its fast. You arrive for your service and leave after that. No bells and whistles, or numbing spray (so I'd avoid painful wax) but what you get is peace of mind that you will leave there looking good, not like a clown. read more

My brazilian wax with Lakhu was done in 15 minutes flat. No kidding. Like.... I have NO idea how she does it, but Lakhu is the business. This was definitely not a painless process, but it was so fast that it was literally over before i knew it. If you like threading, this is the place to go. However, I highly recommend that you see Lakhu, she is the best! My eyebrows always look great and Lakhu is very thorough, patient extremely nice.
