Yelpers and Yelp Eliters, beware! I've been Yelping since 2007, and seldom give bad reviews. However my family's recent experiences with Ali'i Appliance Repair prompted me to update this review with a 1 star. I plan to also report this business to BBB (Better Business Bureau.) My first experience with AAR was above average as Pono the diagnoser and Chris the technician sufficiently fixed our stove. However when I called AAR to fix our leaky washer this was when the problems started. Chris came to diagnose our leaky washer back in October '21. In November we received a diagnosis and bill. Since November, every few weeks I've been calling AAR's office and Chris. The main office never returned my calls (after more than a dozen messages left,) and Chris kept giving me the go around that the parts were ordered but delayed. Fast forward early March '22. I talked to Chris and he said that the office misplaced my diagnosis and didn't have our files in their system. Chris promised that he would follow up with the office and have them call me back. Well; it is end of March and I am no longer receiving calls / text messages back from Chris. This is a business that will completely ghost their customers, even returning ones. Take your business elsewhere as Ali'i doesn't seem to care following up with their customers even their customers have waited months and months on end. read more

I've been really thinking about if I should leave a review. As you can see from my history, my review style will net a business either a 1 star or 5 star. There's nothing in between for me. I don't review mediocre businesses. You're either good or bad, and you have to be REALLY BAD to get a 1 star. I also rarely give bad reviews. I've been to many places that could fit the 1 star category. I'm not really out here to complain and give bad reviews. I'd rather highlight good businesses rather then give space to bad one. With that said... This is to confirm all the other bad reviews for Ali'i Appliance. I've used them twice to repair my washer. 1. Service - They're friendly, but everyone is like that the first time so nothing special there. I'm friendly to, I don't get any stars and I'm not complaining. So just as a note - I work as a PC technician so I'm familiar with good diagnostic practices. It's a standard I strive for with my customers. First of all, a tech can't fully diagnose without actually opening and looking into/getting involved with whatever needs fixing. The two times a technician came to do diagnostics, they literally just looked at it. They didn't even open it or fully run it to check anything. The time I was there (first time I had them over) I had to do it for them. I pretty much did the diagnostics for them - pull out the washer, remove the covers, check the cables, check the switch that I thought could be faulty. Even ended up buying a part (switch) and replacing it myself to verify that that's not it. Put it this way, I know more about my washer than I care for. Now, I do get that there are some things that's very common that by experience, technicians will know what's wrong with them just by verifying the issue. I'm cool with that. Second, the only way to really guarantee a good diagnostic, is to replace the suspected part. I do understand that to do that, technicians will need to order the part, replace it, and if it fixes it, confirms the diagnostics are correct. Their style of diagnostics and servicing doesn't seem to be very good to me. It doesn't seem like their claim to be professionals is lacking, maybe even false. I read things like tech's putting tape to secure things that are broken. A real tech would simply say "Ma'am/Sir, this is broken and for it to function properly, it's going to need to be replaced. I can give you a quote and let you decide if you want it replaced. In the meantime, I can do this as a temporary fix. But, to really fix it, I'd recommend replacing the part." I'm thinking "if they did this to this one customer, I wonder how many more they did this to, but we just haven't heard from them for whatever reason..." 2. Communication - Starts off OK, until they take your $80 diagnostic fee. Actually, I take that back - First contact is hit or miss. They take a long time to respond, if they ever do. Once the appointment is made, it gets a little easier to contact them. Then it goes back to communication is low to non-existent after they take your $80 diagnostic fee. Back in late November to early December 2021, I got an appointment after days to maybe a week and a few days of phone tag. When the appointment was made and "diagnostics" completed, communication was spotty. December 8, 2021 - Diagnosed and supposedly will order the part. No call back to verify part has been ordered. I had to hound them down to finally receive a response. December 15, 2021 - I texted and got a response that due to holiday and pandemic, parts are back ordered. I get it. As a tech, I'm still waiting for parts too. COVID messed us all up. Tech said he will check on it for me. This is the last time I heard from them. December 20, 2021 - I followed up through text. No response. I'm thinking "I'll give them a chance. Holidays are here and everyone's busy. I'll wait until after the New Year to follow up again..." January 6, 2021 - Followed up through text. No response. January 11, 2021 - Called the office and left a message. No call back. I mean, how hard is it to call or text and simply say "Sorry for the delay. Part is not here yet. It's going to take a while to get here. I don't know when..." OR "Sorry for the delay. I don't think I can fix your washer. Here's some recommendations..." So here's another thing for my particular situation. They mentioned that the board that they replaced from the previous repair might be the culprit. So if it's a rework, it will be free, which is why I think they're dodging/ghosting my attempts to contact them. I told them in a text that I don't care if they charge me and that I'm willing to pay for the full price of the repair. If they just want to credit me the part since it's new (purchased in last 12 months), and charge me for labor, I don't mind. That's how it works. It's not their fault that parts go bad. I get it. I don't know if I'll even hear back from them. I don't recommend them. read more

Ali'i subcontracts A&E Appliance and the tech, Ray, was able to come out the next day! They send you texts to show you where they currently are and estimates their arrival. Ray was cordial and business-like. After troubleshooting he narrowed down my problem to a part. He did not have time to replace it, but he did place it On-Hold at Reliable Appliance Parts for me to pick up and replace it myself. Their system is very efficient and I would call them again...hopefully not too soon. read more

Sears Answered and Scheduled for the Next Day and Offered Home Warranty.. Poor Customer Service. Brooooooo...nah! Sent out a call to these guys to come fix my fridge took long for them to reply and then the guy Pono came out, looked, 5 min later he said he was gonna order the part and was never heard from again. Told me the part was gonna take weeks to come in but I found it at Reliable Parts. AND...reliable parts said was readily in stock. AND...the guy that CAME to install the part (from another company I found on Yelp after several unanswered calls/texts to Pono) was quick and cheaper than these guys! Seriously...glad these guys didn't do the job...I found someone way better and he's Permanently in my contact list. And...this wasn't the first time I contacted Alii appliance for service but it'll definitely be my last! The other time was a fail too!! read more

I'll start from the beginning. 1. Called American Home Shield(AHS) to fix microwave that kept tripping the breaker. They set up service with Ali'i Appliance Repair. 2. Called Ali'i several times to book an appointment. First of all, although I called several times during the day, no one answers the phone. 3. Finally when they do call they call after their working hours to book an appointment. 4. The repair guy (Pono) comes and takes a look at the microwave without taking anything apart and says he knows what the problem is. He points out which switch and tells me that he will just change all three since I have AHS. Pono tells me that the parts will take approximately 4 weeks to come in. 5. 5 weeks later, Christen calls, again after hours and tells me I need to book an appointment to install the parts. I call not even 10 minutes after and no answer. Again, it's after hours so I'll give them that. 6. Pono comes back and takes apart the microwave and changes ONE switch. He then places electrical tape on the switch and says this will aid in preventing the switch from moving around. THAT'S IT. He doesn't change the other two gives it to me and leaves. Granted the microwave is working, but I noticed that the door is difficult to open. The next day the microwave trips the breaker again. 7. I call Ali'i NUMEROUS times over several days. No answer. I call Pono's phone no answer. No return calls. 8. I call AHS to complain. They send out another company(I won't mention names). I talk to the guy on the phone and he says that sometimes it has something to do with the door 9. He takes apart the microwave and I give him the other two switches. He asks me, "Why didn't the guy change the other two? He had it opened already." I told him good question. 10. He looks at the switch and asks why there's electrical tape on the switch and why is it moving so much. He says the only reason someone would put tape is that something is broken. 11. Sure enough a piece that is used to secure the switch was broken. The guys says that's why the microwave was tripping the breaker. Whoever changed the switch broke the plastics piece securing the switch, tried to fix the problem with electrical tape. The switch wasn't secured with caused it to short and trip the breaker. (See photo of electrical tape and broken tab) 12. I was wondering why no one returned my call. 13. Oh and if you are wondering why I didn't mention any names. The guy tells me that they've had to respond to numerous calls to fix appliances that Ali'i failed to repair. Crap!!!!!! I can't give 0 stars!!!!!! If Pono had admitted breaking the tab and not cover it up and mislead me by saying the electrical tape was to assist in holding the switch in place, I might have given two stars. Looking at the totality and the evidence left behind it looks like a cover up. It even looks worse when the company dodges calls to avoid taking responsibility. The question is, Do you want to take a chance and hire a company who is dishonest and greatly lacks communication? FYI, taking into consideration that this is the LONGEST review I've ever written shows my feelings about this unfortunate interaction. Scheduled an appointment. Christen was very nice and patient answering my questions. Contacted them 3.5 hours into their 4 hour window and was told that they were having vehicle problems and would not be coming. Rescheduled and got 2 text messages blocking out 8 hours of the next day. Felt a bit weird... I specified that I was unavailable in the pm No text received for the original appt so unsure if it was even scheduled =( I noped out and cancelled. Again, I didn't have them come to do the repair or quote on my stove... Note: Did a bunch of internet research while looking for a new stove to buy and found a quick fix. Took my daughter a whole 10 seconds to mute the beeping. read more

No I'm sorry, or I agree that we let you down, or even an explanation as to why the first person I spoke to tried to deny me the refund I deserved. I will never use them again. read more

I called these guys because my Whirlpool washer was not draining properly and I could not get the door open. I was greeted by a friendly voice and responsive service. She set up a technician right away and I couldn't be any happier. But don't let that fool you for a great service!. The day came for the service. Not only was the technician (Pono) late, but in his professional opinion after looking and hearing the washer for only a few seconds, he told me there was something wrong with the drain pump. They would have to order the part and it would take about 2-4 weeks for it to come in. Also, it would cost about $400-$500 for parts and labor! So glad I didn't use them because they did not follow up and call back. Also, no one called me back after leaving numerous messages! Anyway, I ended up calling Ohana Appliance Repair. When they got here, it only took them less than 15 minutes to get my washer started again. The problem? There were coins in the drain pump blocking the flow. I didn't need a NEW drain pump! So much better than the first guy! The moral of the story?! Stay far away from Alii Appliance Repair! They might rip you off! This is my first experience being a renter and not being able to choose my own service providers for maintenance and repairs has been very frustrating to say the very least. From scheduling, consultation, reminder email with detailed COVID protocol made our family feel safe. Our technician called 10 minutes ahead so we had enough time to get my grandmother downstairs into the garage, super courteous, in today's super paranoid society. We've been lucky to be blessed with cool winter weather these past couple months, at the same time that our LG portable air conditioner has been out of commission. Our LG unit's plug was burnt out due to a combination of us using a three-prong adapter (two-to-three prong) and bad wiring (it's an old house). We got an electrician in to ground the wires and setup a new outlet in our room this past Monday. Now all we needed was to replace the air conditioner's plug. I requested quotes from a few appliance and air conditioning repair specialists, but Ali'i Appliance was the only one that were able to help us. In fact, they were more than happy to provide us service. I got in touch with them on Tuesday, and they came by less than 48 hours after to take a look at our unit that was giving us issues. Aaron was the technician and he was very friendly and courteous. He reminded me of a really cool local uncle. Aaron was very knowledgeable of portable air conditioners and he went right to work to replace our unit's plug (luckily, he already had a brand new one on hand). I reached out to several appliance repair businesses here on the island for an unusual inquiry: my wine cooler had broken down and the manufacturer was unable to send the replacement part to my address. I was looking for a business that could help me get the part to the island so I could fix my cooler on my own. Ali'i Appliance Repair not only responded quickly to my inquiry, but actually looked into the problem for me and tried to help resolve my shipping issue! All the other companies I tried just sort of shrugged me off because it's not really a request for their normal services. And even though this inquiry isn't quite what Ali'i Appliance Repair offers either, they still went out of their way to try to help me. In the end, they weren't able to get the part shipped to Oahu, most likely due to the part itself being considered a "hazardous" item, but it was nice of them to try anyway. Good service is very hard to come by these days, so I really appreciated their amazing customer service here, even though it was for a seemingly small request. I would definitely recommend this business and look forward to working with them in the future for my appliance needs. read more

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ALI'I APPLIANCE REPAIR!! THEY ARE QUICK TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND QUICKER TO GHOST YOU AFTER. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THEM. NOTHING WILL GET DONE. I used Yelp to find an appliance repairman on Wednesday (9/29/2021) and Ali'i quickly replied and was able to schedule me in on Friday for a tech to come out to "diagnose" the problem. I told them my stove just needs to be converted to use LPG. She insisted the tech has to come out first and Diagnostic Fee will be $85.00. I asked if that will be credited to the service/labor after. She said no. I was desperate and went ahead with it anyway. Christen came and, within minutes, told me my gas stove is set to operate in Natural gas mode and I just need to convert that to Liquid Propane Gas mode. He then asked if I want to get that done. I said yes. He said he'll go back; order the parts; and should be able to come back in 2 weeks to do the conversion. He also gave me the bill for Diagnostic Fee. A service that took less than 5 minute. Two weeks later, I called, emailed and messaged them through Yelp to see when they can come back again. It's now November and I have not heard back from anyone via any platform. If you need appliance repair, contact David (808-864-0210) from SIFU SYSTEMS. He ended up converting my stove for me. I scheduled a diagnostic check appointment with this company on their website after reading positive reviews here on Yelp. Their website had a lot of info and you can schedule appointments online which was convenient. I also appreciated that they had a COVID questionnaire and had clear information about their safety protocols. The repair guy came out to our house as scheduled and spoke with my tenant about the dishwasher needing a new motor, and that he would follow up with me about it (I am the owner of the home). Disappointingly, it has been a week since then and I have not been contacted by the company. I have emailed them and left a voicemail on the repair guy's cell and still no response. I wasn't able to leave a voicemail on their main office line as their voicemail inbox is full (never a good sign). I was not charged for the diagnostic check, and I guess they don't want to do the job for whatever reason, but at least follow up with me to let me know what the situation is. No response/follow-up and the lack of communication is just baffling. I have had to find another repair company and start all over again. read more

They will not answer phone calls or emails. I have wasted well over a month (closer to 2 months) waiting for Ali'i Appliance to complete repairs on my washer. They have been to my home 3 times to work on my washer, each time confident that the repair was complete. I will definitely use Ali'i Appliance Repair again. From the first phone call to the repair visit, they were professional, efficient, and friendly. Christen quickly arranged an appointment (within a day) and kept us apprised of the appointment both via phone and email. Serrano let us know when he was 15 minutes out, quickly assessed the issue and gave us options on how to fix. My only original concern was the 4-hour repair time windows (8-12. 12-4) but they were here before 10 and worked efficiently. They explained that the repair cost is probably not worth it and better off to just get a new unit. Appreciate the honest opinion and quick turn around. I am very impressed with the great service and quick response we had received from Alii Appliance Repair. Our stove had a short circuit and unfortunately, we did not get the service agreement from Sears. I called Sears and it would cost $590 to get a warranty agreement for 1 year. I decided to search on YELP and found Alii Appliance and their great reviews. When I called I was able to get an appointment right away and Christen checked on the pricing for me if I had to get a new glass stove top. Kupono came out to the house and found that the wiring was not tucked in correctly when we bought it and that caused the short circuit. Kupono was able to fix the wiring for us so we didn't have to get a new stove top! They are honest, reliable, and efficient! I will definitely recommend them to my friends and call them if I ever have appliance problems. They are offering a $25 off your service to help support the community during this time! My dryer kept shutting off prematurely. After doing all the YouTube self repair the dryer was still shutting off. The repairman showed up on time. Followed all safety, parking and security protocols. He was polite. He quickly resolved the problem and taught me how to fix the problem myself. Also I got a nice discount on the house call.
