I love trying out different coffee shops. I love coffee! I especially like to discover small, local spots, always wanting to support local first. I've been to this location twice now, and both times I've ordered of the signature drinks menu. I've tried the taro ube Latte, and today I tried the Hilo Honey. Both were good, slightly sweet for my liking, but good either way. The next time I stop in, I'm going to try a normal hot coffee, or cold brew, something without all the added sugar. That's more my style anyway. I like to taste all the flavor the coffee has to offer without all the added "stuff". Either way, Ali'i Coffee Shop is a cute, but hip spot in Ward Village. It's not too loud inside, although I think they could benefit from more seating area. Service is fast, and they're pretty helpful to those who don't frequent their spot. Today was a little annoying though, as I was finishing up paying for my order, the person at the counter was already looking over my head talking story with the person behind me. I feel like that was a bit rude, considering I felt rushed to hurt and move so they could keep taking. read more

I've come here 3x since my last visit and I now have a specific order every time lol. The King cold brew and Ali'i Veggie. The sandwich is so simple, but SO GOOD. A very healthy alternative since it's all veggies - just hummus, pickled onions, avo, cucumbers and greens. I really like cold brew and the King cold brew is probably the most flavorful cold brew I've had so far. Like I said in my previous review, the coffees here are strong and tastes strong and this drink is no different. I come usually an hour before closing so it hasn't been busy so service is always goes by fast even if it's just one person working at the moment. My sandwich and coffee usually comes out to about $24 which is kinda pricey imo... but meh it's worth it and I still come back lol. read more

I've recently been on the hunt for good coffee. I found Ali'i Coffee on Yelp and based on all the great reviews, I headed on over to check it out! They're located in Ward Village with plenty of parking available. Upon arrival, there were only a few customers inside. They have seating available but it's not the most comfortable. Apparently they're known for their Cold Brews and Coff-Tails, but I ordered one of their Signature Lattes - the "Queen", which includes hazelnut and toasted coconut for $6.25. I must say that it was delicious - smooth and creamy! I also ordered the Cinnamon Sweet Bread Toast. This was like an elevated version of cinnamon toast with the thick sweet bread and added fruit on top. It was so yummy! I'm glad they don't include the calorie count on the menu! Service was approachable and friendly for the most part. One of the girls was not so friendly but it didn't distract from the overall experience. Seriously keeping this fresh here... Ali'i Coffee in Ward Village is so highly recommended if you're ever in the area as there a chill adulting oasis hidden behind these doors. Don't let the name fool you as they don't serve just amazingly great here but tea as well...yup! The one draw back for me personally is that they do close early for me to swing by after work and going in extra early already is a priceless option I'm not willing to sacrifice at the moment but let me tell if I could I sure would. After randomly running into a friend from literally a decade ago we excitedly got back to keep in touch and today was the first of hopeful many is a brief meeting in between her work schedule. Don't get me wrong I do still drink coffee but have pivoted more to tea and was excited to get their Matchaloha only to find out their out...sigh! With a quick and alert switch she suggested an alternative which I had no idea and instantly turned to pour me a sample from a line of taps which one was Purple Haze (Green Tea, Jasmine, Honey and Lemon), Hi-Berry (Hibiscus Berry Tea). Both were outstanding and are made in-house so I decided on the Purple Haze and what a refreshing sip!! A unexpected road let to a friend may otherwise have lost back to a place to enjoy an unexpected drink to fall in love as I do believe that everything happens for a reason...and that's how we grow. Surprisingly good cold brew coffee, the "King", it was chocolate, coconut, and half & half, almond/coconut creamer. It was smooth and went down easily. Super flavor combination. Loved it. So far I came to Ali'i twice and found my experience to be enjoyable both times. The ube taro latte (7.5/10) had a strong ube flavor but was on the sweeter side. I came back the following week to study and tried out The Queen (7.5/10) which was had a subtle flavor of coconut. This location only has a few tables to study so finding an empty spot definitely depends on luck. Each latte costed around $7, which I do find to be a steep price and I am not sure the taste justifies the price. Was in the Kakaako area craving coffee and wanted to try something different so decided to go to Ali'i Coffee. I usually park at one of those 30min stalls on the ground level of the parking structure but it can get difficult to find parking on a busy day. You can also park at the Auahi Shops parking structure and walk over as well. I tried their cold brew before and it was good but wanted to try their lattes. Decided on the Taro Ube Latte from all the posts and it was good. It wasn't too sweet but just right. I do wish they came in larger sizes and there was a lot of foam at the top so maybe you get 3/4s of the cup. The drinks are on the pricier side so keep that in mind. I did try their local breakfast sandwich in the past and it was great and filling with sides of chips. Would recommend Ali'i Coffee just keep in mind the latte's are pricey but they are worth the taste. read more

First time and was fortunate to meet the owners James and Wil. Had the ube latte and it was smooth and flavorful. Staff was friendly and courteous. Customers were greeted with warmth and aloha. FOOD: I had been looking forward to getting coffee in Hawaii for quite some time and Ali'i Coffee really satisfied my cravings. I got the King and it was so creamy and smooth. It has to be one of my favorite cold brews I've ever had. They also let me sample the Purple Haze, which was also quite flavorful if you like tea. We also got the Matchaloha latte, which wasn't anything special, in my opinion. We also got the Lomi Salmon bagel and, as a New Yorker, I loved every bite of this bagel. They also serve this with chips on the side. SERVICE: Friendly staff! We asked for their advice on certain items and they gave us free samples. My go-to spot for when I wanna sit down for a few hours and grind out work. Out of all the coffee shops that I've worked out of, I like this one the best because of the following: Fast, strong wifi AC (it gets REALLY cold so bring a jacket and wear long pants if you plan to stay long) outlets at every table amazing drinks and good selection of food There are three small tables, two large tables and a countertop inside, and two tables outside. The workers are all so kind and the drinks are so good. I'm not a coffee drinker but their Taro Ube is excellent - the espresso taste is strong but not overwhelming, and it's thick from the taro with a beautiful color from the ube. The Ali'i Cloud, which is like a jasmine milk tea is a beautiful blue, and the Matchaloha is also one of my new go-to's. I'm currently working out of Ali'i Coffee as a i write this review, sipping on my large 16oz matchaloha light ice with oat milk and lavender ($8.85 total). The customer base here is so nice - no one overstays their welcome; as soon as they're done with their work or their conversation/meeting they leave to let other customers get a chance at dining in. It's always crowded in here, but I've been lucky enough to snag a table relatively quickly every visit. read more

Been to the Waikiki location many times and always found the drinks lacking. However, this time was different. Headed to the Kakaako Farmers Market and desperately in need of caffeine. Never went to this location so decided to give it a try. I ordered the King. Hubs ordered the Queen (hot). Both drinks were good and full flavored. This is such a cute little coffee place. The coffee is so good, and the food is also very tasty. On a previous occasion i stopped by and had the avocado toast with a cortado. Delicious! I enjoyed my early morning breakfast and was also able to do some reading on my laptop. This visit I had a taro ube and a breakfast burrito. Perfect to satisfy my taste buds. The baristas are very friendly and they always greet the customers as they enter. People easily come and go. The vibe here is very relaxed. It's also a pet friendly place so it's great to sit and enjoy your coffee and admire all the different dogs entering. Some are regulars here and are offered a doggie treats. Parking is not a problem and there is wifi available. Early morning is best if you're an early riser. They're open from 7am to 2pm Monday through Sunday. Come and enjoy! read more

Drinks are great! Really good vibes here too as it's in a prime location with beautiful landscaping around with plumeria trees. But, I am not that happy about the automatic tip, it adds a lot of pressure. I wish the default was not money added... It's a bit stressful/pushy to receive it in this manner. Breakfast at Ward Center, Honolulu, Hawaii... I've driven by the original location of Ali'i Coffee on Beretania Street, but haven't visited because of the parking situation in the area. Some of my Yelp friends (especially Donna O., Corina Q., Nadia K., and Kyra K.) posted great photos and wrote motivating reviews for the Ward Center location. I made time to go to Ward Village. There's lots of free parking here! I parked in the covered parking structure at Ward Center and walked around to the street side where Ali'i Coffee's front door faces Auahi Street. The workers were cheerful and efficient. Customers were greeted and welcomed right away! They pointed out the self-service station for napkins, utensils, and water. The helpful gal told me where the closest restroom was (inside Ward Center). The environment was clean and cute (look at those colorful murals)! The music was pleasant; the air conditioning was much appreciated; and the seating area was inviting. I ordered the Purple Haze - it's green tea, jasmine honey, and lemon. I liked this refreshing beverage! I also got the Avocado Toast which had feta cheese, pickled onion slivers, and fresh greens topped with vinaigrette dressing on crunchy toast! I also got the Taro Ube latte with Oat milk - so smooth and not too sweet! Since they just made some beautiful Chia seed pudding cups, I got one! The granola, fresh strawberries and healthy blueberries made my breakfast guilt-free! I'm so glad that I finally got a chance to dine here. I'm so glad to see this outpost of Alii Coffee! I loved the cafe on the edge of downtown/Chinatown but parking is impossible, so I rarely wound up going. This one has heaps of parking nearby and is a little bigger, so it makes it easy to support this place. These folks do coffee so well. I was able to chat with the owner for a bit, and he is so knowledgeable about beans, roasting methods, brew methods, and you can tell he definitely prides himself on quality (and he's not at all prideful - he's really very humble). The Maui pourover they have right now is fantastic, though my go-to is the ube taro latte. It's sweet but who can resist a purple drink?? Milk texture is spot-on and the espresso is delicious. They have coffee-tails (cocktails, with coffee), avocado toast, several specialty espresso drinks, cold brew, chai, the works. Prices are about what you can expect anywhere. Here's what I know...you can always trust your dog. So when I encountered no less than three dogs at Ali'i Coffee, I knew I was in a great spot! We love Ali'i Coffee! It's just a short walk from our condo, and the staff is always so kind and welcoming. It's usually pretty busy for dine-in, so we tend to grab takeout and it never disappoints. We bring our pups with us sometimes, and they always get spoiled with a pup cup! The food is delicious definitely worth the wait, even if it's not the fastest. One of my friends recommended this place to me and I have to admit, I am a fan. I'm pretty basic and would visit a Starbucks to grab a coffee and go, but Ali'i Coffee has a comfortable vibe to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with some foods they have available. There are two sizes to choose from for the drinks: 12oz and 16oz. For lattes, you can order them iced or hot. Ube Taro Latte: My order was large and iced. The ube drink was very good. It tasted like ube and wasn't powdery. The drink was also not too sweet which I preferred. The Queen Latte: My order was small and hot. The latte has hazelnut and coconut flavors. It was good but it was pretty sweet. You can request for this drink to be less sweet. Turkey Avo Sandwich: This sandwich was delicious. I'm not a fan of turkey since they are pretty dry but the avocado, sauce, and the pickles helps with the dryness. It also adds a lot of flavor to the overall sandwich. I do wish it had more avocado since there were only 2 slices on my sandwiches. Chia Seed Pudding: This is not on their menu but they will leave it out near the cash register on ice. It was my first time trying chia seed pudding and I really enjoyed it. The pudding was thick with a subtle coconut flavor. The fruits helps add the sweetness. It was a light and healthy meal. Overall, a great place for some coffee and breakfast/brunch. It's very casual and the employees there were friendly. My drinks always came out quick and my foods came out hot. The only issue is that some times the drinks and foods are inconsistent where my lattes were milkier and my sandwich would have less ingredients compared to before.
