I took my computer to apple Pasadena waiting there for almost an hour even I already booked an appointment two day late ago .Then I was told it took around at least 9 days to get my computer back. Outstanding service at the San Marino location. I took my 3 year old DELL 3542 Inspiron 5 to have a virus removed. Jason explained the reason why my laptop was extremely slow and which security programs that were best for Windows 10. For a reasonable price Alice Computerworks installed a solid state drive. My laptop was damaged and needed the DC jack replaced. They needed to order the part (during this COVID fiasco) and replace it. Not only did they do a beautiful job, but when I took a malfunctioning printer in to have them look at (when I picked up the laptop) they found out that the printer must have a bad power cord and solved that problem too. They are now my official go-to shop for any computer repair. HIGHLY recommended! To further put this into perspective, I have been in IT for MANY years and know talented work when I see it. Redemption is quite possible. After traveling to BEST BUYS and getting a ridiculous quote for product and service from the Geek Squad, I opted to give Alice another go at it. My computer had been corrupted and I was unable open Windows. They took the laptop and gave me a quote the next morning. I mentioned that the problem that I had had before never really got resolved. The cursor would jump around and I would lose significant portions of text without any ability to recover the loss. Both matters were fixed and the cost was significantly less than I had anticipated. I was not in the market for the sale of new equipment, and I felt as if the service technician was there to provide the repair service that I was seeking. I dropped my laptop off here thinking that it would be a free consultation to see what was wrong with it, and they made me leave it there for a day, which is much longer than other computer repair stores. They told me that I had to replace my motherboard, which was $350 and their labor costed $120, which is ridiculous. Because I decided not to fix my laptop, they charged me $29 for diagnostics. Who charges for a quote? I brought my laptop to another shop and they took less than an hour to see what was wrong with my laptop, and they didn't charge for a quote. They quoted me $330 to replace the motherboard in total. This place is honestly a rip off. They charge more than any other shop in the area. read more

This is the either the third or fourth computer I have bought from them since they have opened up in San Marino and my parents have also purchased their computers and printers from them as well. Excellent service and quality work. We took our MSI laptop in for a fan replacement. They ordered direct from MSI, the fan came within a few days, and they replaced both fans within a few hours. Having a long standing computer issue that had me at my wits end, I was recommended these guys. At first, I was hesitant. However, between Stewart's open and constant communication and Jude straight up showing my computer being tested (Stress testing to ensure the fix was the right one), my worries were put to ease. One day my Macbook Pro beeped 3 times on start up. Googled it and read that it could be bad RAM. Took it to Apple Genius Bar. The "genius" took my laptop to the back to check it out. After what seemed like forever, he came back and told me that it was "odd" because he could get my laptop to start up when the back cover was off, but when he put the cover back on it wouldn't work. He concluded that it was possibly a bad connector, but said that since my RAM was not the original (it had been upgraded) that I could attempt to send it out to get it fixed by Apple, and they "may or may not" fix it since it was not the original RAM. Oh, and that it would cost around $300! Um, no thanks. I found Alice Computerworks on Yelp, and since it was close by to my house, I decided to have them check out my laptop. I told them my story with Apple, they thought that story sounded sketch and said to leave the laptop there with them to check out. A couple days later I get a call from the tech. He asked me to verify my story again about Apple which I did. He thought the story with Apple was odd because he said he got my laptop to work again... and all he did was clean the RAM!!! He said that it's routine for them to do that first before anything else and it fixed the problem. They restarted my laptop several times over the last few days with no issues before calling me. WTF Apple?! "Genius" my butt. SMH. I thanked the Alice Computerworks tech and asked him how much it would cost, and he said, "No charge!" What?! Woohoo! Elated with the news and spending no money, I decided to continue my business with them and brought in my iMac to have the crashed hard drive replaced. I had already called around and their price to replace the hard drive was slightly lower than another local Apple dealer. But even if their price was slightly higher I would've taken it to Alice Computerworks anyways since they've gained my business. Got the iMac back in a couple of days and then brought in my husband's failed hard drive from his Macbook to see if they could retrieve the data (I accidentally dropped his laptop when I was borrowing it while mine was out of service, oops! I was definitely having bad computer karma the last couple of months). They weren't able to retrieve the data, but didn't charge us for checking to see if they could. When I first heard of Alice Computerworks from a former coworker, I simply dismissed them, thinking they were just another generic, independently-owned "computer place." However, when I actually went into the little shop to accompany said former coworker to consider a few tablet options, I was blown away by the casual, yet very personable, atmosphere that the staff provided, making the entire visit a much more enjoyable experience than I had prejudged. This visit alone made me feel compelled to write about my experience--it must be made known! The store has on display and sells an array of computers and various electronics accessories, ranging from personal desktops and laptops that run on Microsoft software (Asus, Sony Vaio, ThinkPad) to the latest Apple computers (they are authorized resellers of Apple products). The tablet selection included Android OS tablets, such as the Google Nexus 7, and both the iPad Mini and latest iPad, prices no different from the local Apple retail store. My friend decided to purchase an iPad Mini in this store, saving us an additional five-mile trip to Pasadena (not to mention crowds). Not only do they sell computers and electronics, Alice Computerworks are computer specialists, equipped to perform hardware and software repairs. Also, perhaps the most convenient aspect of this is that most of the staff are bilingual in Mandarin and English, giving them the ability to explain technological terms in either language. Aside from the pleasant experience, I was impressed with the way the staff at Alice Computerworks conduct their sales. Unlike other electronics stores I have had the misfortune of venturing to, the staff did not pressure either of us to purchase anything on the spot. Providing a relaxed environment, the staff were on hand to answer any questions my friend and I had about anything in the store and were more than happy to help us find products most suitable for our needs. Perhaps the most negative aspect of my first visit here is really the fact that it requires a U-turn on Huntington Drive, if you're coming in from the east. We've inexplicably missed the store at least once by turning too early, but that's just us (haha). Also, I honestly wished the store representative who assisted us did not briefly speak so negatively--with great passion--about the Android mobile OS (in comparison to Apple); it felt biased and unnecessary, bringing down a star for this review. I bought an Acer laptop about a month ago. I'm over 50 and have only used big desktop PCs. I needed basic programs such as an internet browser, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. The service representative spoke fluent English and was very knowledgeable about products and service. He was patient in explaining to me know WiFi works, what flash drives are, what USB ports do, and a whole host of other aspects of the equipment of which I had been unaware. I have gotten rapid response turn around and because they are open late, I can actually go into the store after work and not feel rushed. I'd recommend this company to anyone who wants value for the cost of equipment and service! read more

these guys are super helpful and since they are close to my parents, they're a convenient place for what my parents need as far as computer peripherals. Excellent customer service and they're always willing to go that extra mile and there's no pushy salesmen often found at places like Fry's & Best Buy. If you're a noob, then this is the place for your computer needs since those of us who have bought computer parts from newegg and amazon can find cheaper and more competitive prices, but for those that aren't too computer literate, this place beats the larger computer stores. Alice Computerworks can also do data recovery to a certain extent and they charge about $100-250. For serious data loss or hard drive damage, then you must go to those data recovery shops and pay upwards of at least $1000. But it's nice to know that they can recover data at a reasonable price. They seem similar with services and computer parts like PC Club and I use to be a big fan and consistent shopper there. I'm close by to Alice Computerwerks too and would probably stop in if I'm looking for a specific part instead of having to drive to dreaded Fry's read more

I don't really do much on my home computer. So I just never got around to getting one. I just did most things on my iPad. Whatever I couldn't do I did at work. Long story short, mom had an older MacBook Pro FOR FREE and recommended we go to this local spot to get it wiped and put her stuff on an external drive. $200 later I have a perfectly good updated Pro, so now I can surf the internet, download my iTunes, upload and organize my pics and be crafty, update my damn 4s until the 6 comes out, and YELP of coarse. Never have I written a poor review before but this is simply unacceptable. After spending $100's for a new charger port to fix my laptop's charging problem the computer still apparently only half charges. More over I spent an extra $50's on heat work (such as reapplying the thermal paste etc.). After I got my laptop back not only is my graphics card apparently unusable (my computer doesn't even read it anymore) AND my computer fan is now always at Max strength which is essentially the same sound as a regular fan for a room on max as I have a MSI Gaming Laptop so it is incredibly loud. This is unacceptable to have my laptop returned worse-off than when I had given it to them after spending $150s just to have it returned with an unusable Nvidia Graphics Card & a fan that is so loud and disruptive that it literally makes it impossible to bring my laptop anywhere even remotely quiet to work. read more

This review is for their customer service... TERRIBLE! Granted, everyone at Alice is extremely pleasant and eager to please...however what they say over the phone is completely different from what they actually deliver. It took them 5 full days to call me back when all I wanted was an approximate price quote to set up a wireless home network. Keep in mind, this is after I called them 3 times during the course of the week to check up on the status of the price quote...each time being told that I would receive the quote "right away" or "within the next hour." Um....within the next hour? Make that the next 120 hours! When I finally finally got ahold of the owner, Jeffrey, he apologized and promised that he would personally take care of me and my networking needs. The beast inside me was mollified and I decided to give them a shot. Fast forward a few days later...we had a scheduled meeting at my house and NO ONE FROM ALICE SHOWED UP! Not only did they not show up, they didn't even call to tell us they weren't going to come. Sat around and waited for NOTHING! This was personalized service?!? I've received better service from the homeless guy forcibly washing my windows at a stopped intersection! Finally did receive a call the following day...apparently they had believed the scheduled appointment to be on another day AND another time from what was actually set. I really wanted to like this company, Was personally referred by a friend and saw their high marks on yelp...but if these guys can't even get scheduling an appointment right, there's no way in hell I'm trusting them with my computers/networks. I wanted to like this place. I really did. But my whole experience with Alice Computerworks was one mishap after another. When I spilled water on my laptop this past Christmas Eve, I was so desperate to find a place other than the Apple store to fix my baby, seeing as how everyone said that it'd take over $700 to fix water damage. I had let it dry for a day and a blinking question mark appeared on the screen. I looked on yelp and found Alice Computerworks. After feeling hopeful when I read their abundant 5 star reviews, I gave them a call and spoke to Kevin. I took my Macbook Air in after Christmas. When I got there, I explained the problem. I go to UCI and told them that I needed it fixed by the Dec 30th, the date I planned to return to Irvine (I was on break and visiting family in the area), and they said it was no problem. They told me they would let me know the cost of repair the next day. They contacted me the same day and told me they had dried out my computer and it turned on--all for only $80. It's ready for pick up the next day! I was ready to add onto their 5 star reviews on yelp. When I came in the next day, I quickly clicked around for a few minutes before I deemed it fixed. I handed them my $80 and went on my happy way back home. When I got home, I used my Air and realized that it completely froze 10 minutes in again and again. I called Alice Computerworks and spoke with Kevin. He told me that it was a possible battery problem and to bring it back in. When I came back to Alice Computerworks, I was first helped by one of their salesman. I told him my situation in which he replied, "It's probably a system problem. You just need to update it." I explained that it was never like this before the water damage, but he kept brushing me aside. Finally, Kevin stepped in and told me that he thinks it's a battery problem. If it is, it'd be a $200 fix. I told them to check for it. I got a call the next day and they told me that they had dried it out again and their technician had played around with it for a few hours with no lag. So they told me I can come back the same day and pick it up. I turned on my laptop and noticed that the battery life was around the same as when I first left it there yesterday. I played around with it for another 5 minutes before it froze again. The salesman came and blamed me for the lag, "What are you even doing? Our technicians used it for a few hours with no lag and you use it for 5 minutes and it lags." For one, I doubt they technician used it for that long, seeing how my battery life is practically the same, and two, he shouldn't be so condescending. He told me that it's probably a system problem and to leave it. When I asked him when it can be fixed by, because I was leaving on the 30th, he said that the earliest they can get back to me was the 31st because their technicians are off until then. I had to cancel my plans in Irvine and stay back in the 626 area. I had to leave on Dec 31st, whether my laptop was fixed or not. Steward (I think) called me later that day and told me they had found the problem--the motherboard. It's an additional $500 cost for a new motherboard on top of the initial $80 for the first repair. Furthermore, it would take a week to get the piece shipped over to them and another day to install it. I said to to order the piece right away. I am back in Irvine. It is over a week since I told them to replace the motherboard. They haven't contacted me. I call and speak with Steward again and ask him for the status of my Macbook Air. He tells me, "It seems here it is a motherboard issue." I tell him that I know and had told them a week ago to replace it. He pauses and tells me that they will double check if the piece was ordered and if it came in and give me a call in the morning. The next morning came and I didn't receive a phone call. So I called them in and asked them if it was ordered or not. I had planned to drive to San Marino that weekend to pick it up. He confirmed that no order was placed and that they had just ordered it last night. He offered to have to laptop shipped to me when the repairs are done and I can pay over the phone. They text me when it was repaired and asked to text them my address. I did and they gave me a tracking number. When I was tracking it the next day, I was instructed to call the shipper--they had put in the wrong address. I got ahold of Kevin, and his first instinct was to blame me, but checked and realized it was his fault. They apologize and tell me to pick it up from the FedEx it was held, 20 minutes away from where I lived. Steward sincerely apologized for all the horrors they put me through and promised that they'll make it up to me next time, but after this, there will NEVER be a next time for Alice Computerworks. read more

Again, impressed that they took that much time to explain to me my options to upgrade my iMac after I foolishly upgraded to Yosemite...I should've picked up on APPLE ploy to slow down old computers with free upgrades so that I would opt to buy a new iMac....we have 3 iMacs, 2 laptops, 2 iPads and an iPhone.....ANYWAYS, Alice and their staff, I tink his name was Kevin, have gone above and beyond light years in trying to help me. ALICE COMPUTERWORKS, I promise that I will visit you and buy your service. You could've done what most other places do and just dismiss me over the phone but you really took your time and instead of selling a product you gave me options that in the long run would've helped. My computer/laptop was submerged in a freak storm that lasted all of 5 minutes one fateful day in New York City. I was desperate to get it fixed, but was 3,000 miles away from home. When I got back, I was pointed to Alice Computerworks by a trusted friend who *knows* computers. And what once I thought was completely lost, and that I'd have to shell $1500 on a new computer, Jay/Jai (JH) at Alice got it to work, good as new. I'm actually writing this Yelp review on my laptop! He did magic on it, and it works better than ever. What I liked the most? The fact that he was honest and upfront about everything. A flat rate gets you an initial diagnostic. Jay calls and updates you throughout the day to let you know what he sees. Next, he doesn't try to upsell you on anything! You know those annoying mechanics at JiffyLube who try to get you to replace this, that and the other, and not just a quick oil change?? Yeah, that's not how they work at Alice. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this place to my family and friends. They have all the computer support you'll needs - laptops, desktops, Dells, HPs and Apples; iPhones and Andriods - they're my new go-to's to anything computer-related. Strikes me as an independent version of Best Buy's computer section. They're newly authorized to sell Apple, so there's a separate area for all your Mac needs. I don't know much about PC brands, but I think I saw Lenovo and ASUS systems. They also have a limited selection of peripherals and accessories. They're friendly and professional, and I'm sure they know what they're doing when it comes to repairs. They were willing to order in any part or accessory I needed or help me build a customized PC, but let's face it, if you're the type who's already bought stuff from NewEgg or OWC, this sort of help is redundant. So yeah, this place is pretty much tailored to service the needs and problems of noobs. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but it informs the manner of their customer service and sales approach. It doesn't suit me personally but your mileage may vary. read more

I went to apple because my 1 year old Mac stopped working. It was a week after the 1 year since I bought it, and because I didn't buy an insurance apple wanted to charge me $430 up front just to look at the computer and fix the basics, they said I may loose all my data and that if there was a water damage it will cost even more money. Luckly I found Alice Computerworks and they were on point, gave me fair prices and I ended up spending a lot less, not loosing any data and having great service with a free warranty. It turns out it was water damage so apple would have charged me an additional (and probably crazy expensive) fee. These guys are my go to for now on! No more apple store for me! read more

This place is magical. I passed on my Macbook Pro that had been giving me issues forever to my mom thinking that she would never get any good use out of it. I'd taken my computer several times to another computer repair place in Berkeley, but was told that I'd probably be better off getting a new computer. My mom took it to Alice and they were able to tell what the problem was almost immediately. I even forgot to mention that I had an incident with dropping water on it (poor computer...) until they told ME about it. After my mom got back the computer she had some issues again and took it back since it was under warranty. Apparently my particular Mac needed a specific part not just the usual compatible ones. They were able to find the part quickly and fixed it up. My mom really appreciated that they called often to update her on the status of the computer. Now my mom has a pretty much brand new Mac to enjoy. read more
