I am a foodie, most time I love all restaurants and give 5 stars to everyone. But this time I'm very disappointed. While the food came out rather quickly, the quality was not what i had expected from seeing pictures and the menu. Most of the food was fried, not much good healthy food selection from menu, but I didn't try their sushi. There's one dish Miso glazed Cod, they didn't wash the bokchoy, it was all sandy!!! That really pissed me off! The place was small and a bit tight. You have to get in the line to go to restroom. I thought the interior would be nicer for photo, but it's so dark and not as decorative as I expected, I expected similar or a little less than "XOXO. Asian tapas in a a super hip lounge atmosphere with delicious cocktails? Yes, please. We came here on a Saturday for a date night and we were promptly seated upon arrival. We had 8pm reservations and that was a perfect time to check out Alice. I started with a clementine old fashioned and it was delicious. AND they have the big clear cubes! It was so good that I got another about halfway through the meal. We ordered a variety of items and everything was awesome. The waitress offered to handle the coursing of the plates and we took her up on that. She did a great job of keeping something on the table at all times. We started with the lettuce wraps. They were really good and had the perfect ratio of wrap to meat and other fresh veggies. Then we got the calamari. Nice amount of crisp and they were doused in an Asian spicy sauce. Next we got the Brussels sprouts. They were flash fried and that provided for an amazing crisp texture balanced by the oyster sauce. Next came the dumplings that were presented nicely in a traditional dumpling tray. Then we got the crispy shrimp which were served in a coating of crispy green rice. Finally, we got the fried rice. I would say the fried rice was a little underwhelming but that's only because everything else was sooooo good. Went to Alice on a whim and felt like it's such a hidden gem in Dallas! Not only was the food phenomenal, but the service and environment was also great. The intimate setting of tables in the front make for a great date spot, but also great for friends as well. We ended up ordering a bunch of things on the menu to share: (1) Espresso Martini - one of my favorites in the city. It was strong and the beans are from the coffee shop next door. (2) Yellowtail Sashimi - they gave us a generous amount given its sashimi. Loved the added touch of sliced oranges to spruce up the flavor. (3) Steamed Buns - the texture of the buns were very fluffy and chewy and was a great combo with the brisket. It could've been better with a dipping sauce as the meat was on the drier side, but still flavorful! (4) Chinese Noodles - devoured this in less than a minute! The quail egg added a fun touch to our meal. (5) Alice roll, mama bear roll, and dragon roll - You HAVE to get the mama bear roll if you visit Alice. This was the table FAVORITE - the torched salmon on top of the roll added a smoky flavor and all of the add-ins worked very nicely together. (6) Korean BBQ wings - if i wasn't so full, these would've been great! They had such a strong Korean BBQ flavor come through and they was definitely more than enough to go around the table. Came here for my best friends bday dinner and it was just sub par. It was a group of 6 that was originally suppose to be 8. We got seated, ordered drinks and our food. Drinks were great, food was ok but nothing to rave about. Overall we felt rushed to finish dinner. We could've been out at a decent time but everyone's food came out at different times. So one person would get one thing and 10/15 mins later another persons order would come out. The host came by and asked if we were about done and if the other two people would join us to which we said no they weren't goin g to make it. Then he comes back 20 mins later asking if we're almost done as he has another reservation to seat at our table. At this time we're still waiting on one persons food, so we tell him that and it comes 5 mins later. We finished dinner and went on our way. Went with my husband last night and the service was great, our waiter was wonderful and extremely attentive. I think her name was Anna, she was fantastic. But the food and the ambiance just didn't do it for us. Just know if you go on a Saturday they have a very loud DJ so it's hard, if not impossible, to have a conversation. The food we had was fine but was overpriced for what it was. It definitely wasn't bad just very, very bland. I would go back for drinks but won't be eating there again. read more

It is a smaller space, so when it turned from less dinner and more to a drink spot there were a lot of people standing around our table. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for months and finally got the chance and I'm so glad I did. As soon as I entered the restaurant I was greeted by a very pleasant hostess. The restaurant was busy but that is to be expected (it was a Friday evening). The restaurant has a small dinning area and is decorated very stylish and hip. There was a Dj in the back playing 80' to early 90's hits. The bartenders were very attentive with everyone waiting no more than 30 seconds to acknowledge them to place an order. The bar seemed to be a full service bar. I'm only giving four stars due to our waitress she seemed disinterested in working and not as pleasant as some of the other waiters/waitress. I have to say that I hate giving reviews that are not 5 star, but I feel the need to write this because I had such high expectations of Alice! My 3 stars go to the quality of drinks and the effort made by the manager to seat us ASAP (we were seated 30 Minutes after our reservation time). The theme and music is super cool as well. First and foremost, they take their open trash can through the restaurant/bar to dump out and that can't be sanitary. We all pretty much lost appetite after seeing that. I was unimpressed by the service, quality of food, and the lack of apology when our food was brought out over an hour after it was ordered. I wouldn't return for dinner, but may stop in for a drink. I went to Alice last night to grab drinks with a group of girlfriends and we all loved it! It's a small intimate setting with a Miami Vice vibe. There was a DJ but the music wasn't too loud, plus it was fun hearing him play 80s hits. It definitely feels like a local place with lots of regulars. Not looking for free stuff; even just an acknowledgment would have been nice. Minus one star for that... The atmosphere is great. Awesome 80's soundtrack...funky decor...art deco bar area...gorgeous marble tables...and don't miss the bathrooms. Bartender gets top marks for making me an off-menu basil gimlet that was delicious. This is my favorite drink, and I always ask for it, but most places tell me they don't have basil. Give it a try here! And if you want an on-menu drink, the Ty-Ku Colada is phenomenal...it's like a liquid dessert, so I'd recommend it for the end of the meal. It's sooooo delicious. The food was pretty good, although when your favorite dish is the brussels sprouts, something's probably missed the mark a bit. The waitress raved about the beef and broccoli, and yeah, it was better than your average Chinese takeout, but it wasn't phenomenal. The calamari had a nice level of spice, which I enjoyed. Sticky buns were underwhelming. The yellowtail sashimi hit the mark, although the portions were a bit skimpy. I think we ordered another dish, too, but I can't even remember what it was...so that's probably not a good sign (especially since I only had two drinks). Way better people than across the road. But the good news for Alice is that it's very likely most people eating here have never been to Asia and/or are used to and expect Qwai Lo faux-Asian cuisine. Desperately wanted to like this place because we live in Bryan Place near Exall Park and love walkable restaurants/bars. We ordered the Alice roll, the spicy chicken steamed buns, and the kimchi fried rice. Of the three, the Alice roll was the best tasting but you could get the exact same roll for half the price ($22) elsewhere. The kimchi fried rice was decent but very greasy. Again, there is tastier fried rice for a better deal elsewhere. The steamed buns were not only super bland but they brought out the wrong order and didn't bring out the right order until my family was already done eating their meal and ready to leave. No apology was given and we were still charged for it. The upside was the staff and service (aside from bringing out my dish at the end of the meal) were top notch. Everyone greeted you and were kind to us. For the price though and in this economy, I think there are better sushi/food options elsewhere. read more

I've had a nice experience at Alice before, but as a neighbor of this establishment, I'm done with their valet service constantly parking cars on the sidewalk on Ross Ave. I've asked them not to before and I have used the 311 service to report the issue multiple times. Intimate tapas style Asian restaurant located right in the Bryan Place area of Uptown. The inside was very trendy with a disco ball in the middle of the restaurant which goes along with the 80's/90's music they were playing! Unless you wanna take your chances on finding an open seat at the bar, I'd advise calling ahead and making reservations since the seating is limited. We started off our night with a few cocktails. Which if you're looking to try a new cocktail spot, this is the place for you! The clementine old fashion and Alice Mule were excellent. We shared the Fried Rice and the Alice roll. Both were really good and filling. The Chinese sausage in the rice was nice and sweet. The shrimp tasted fresh and were not tiny like what you get in take out fried rice. The Alice roll came with 6 pieces and the wasn't heavily coated with tempura so you could still taste the actual sushi. A little pricey for the amount of food you get but definitely worth the dollar! The music seemed very throw-back, but I liked it. The menu isn't exactly "tapas" style, but I think the idea is to order many different plates and share as they're more appetizers in style. I did like the wide variety of choices though! The crispy tofu salad was awesome! I love tofu and they really did a great job with cooking and seasoning the tofu! The shu mai dumplings were also delicious and meaty. They tasted unique in flavor and I would definitely order them again! The pork ribs were of course sticky, but really good and great portion size. Despite the Covid situation, my boyfriend and I had a great experience at Alice last night. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, and we were greatly impressed by the extra care the staff has taken to make everyone feel very comfortable and safe during the pandemic. Each dish and glass was seran wrapped individually after sanitized and unwrapped at the table before use. They even included hand santitizer on each table. Both of which is a first for us to see a restraunt do right now. Alsp, everyone wears their mask *correctly.* The majority of our visit someone was on their hands and knees deeply sanitizing the bar area. 1st off Alice is the coolest! Side street sheik, makes you feel like you're in Chicago. My wife and I had dinner there to celebrate our anniversary and her birthday. Great menu for foodies! They feature sushi rolls but my wife doesn't eat that, but had plenty other options. We ordered the brussel sprouts and edamame and peppers to start; the spouts were to die for! My wife said they were great! The edamame has some kind of seasoning that I didn't like, but she loved it. I like spicy food, but those peppers where hot as $&!t! I couldn't eat them.
