Manhattan, NY - from its original shop in SoHo, Alidoro has expanded to several locations around NYC (five in Manhattan, one in Queens/LIC), and this one is in the food hall of the Moynihan Train Hall (aka the fancier Penn Station). I've toured my way around much of the sandwich menu, and what differentiates these chi-chi New York-Italian sandwiches from the average deli is the quality of the ingredients: the fresh baked artisanal breads that you can customize with your sandwich, well-sourced meats & cheeses, and house-made spreads that add a touch of sophistication. So far my favorites are the Giovanni (ham & provolone with pesto cream), Gothamist (prosciutto & burrata), and Fratelli (porchetta & mozzarella). I don't find them all to be bangers and some taste pretty mid for the somewhat upscale price, but they're always fresh and always solid, and obviously I like them enough to be a repeat customer. I love a good sandwich, so I wanted sooo much to love Alidoro... the sandwiches here tout a lot of LEGIT-sounding ingredients and toppings. But the two sandwiches we got were a mixed bag. The prosciutto was without question the saltiest I've ever had. Even paired with mild burrata, the sandwich was inedible. We both tried it and then agreed the only salvation was to pick off the meat to throw in the trash. The pre-set sandwiches on the menu are all spicy. If that's not your jam, you'll have to order a build-your-own, which is probably the better option anyway. If you want a very flavorful but not too spicy or salty meat, get the porchetta. read more

For a food spot in Moynihan, Alidoro comes pretty close to its storefront superiors in NYC. I've always adored their sandwiches, when coming to work in the office post-COVID.(#1) I arrived at 1pm on a Wednesday evening and found it fairly quick too. That's a rarity compared to the storefront superiors(#2) and even Chopt nearby. I found the Mona Lisa (made HOT) on the menu. Only difference between now and a few years ago is that smoked mozzarella doesn't exist on any of the menus anymore, but at least I got fresh mozzarella. Service is not so good, but the product is excellent (I requested the black garlic mustard the side and they forgot it, and servers were bored and seemed stoned). The sando was superb: flavorful rare roastbeef is perfectly seasoned and served warm with melted cheese and mushrooms. The truffle aioli is delicious but a tad more would be nice. Bc I save this delicious sando til I get to the boonies with no good food options; I get to feast on my giant Alyssa... makes one miss NYC very much. Have been wanting to try Alidoro for quite some time but didn't realize they had one at the Moynihan Train Station! There's a lot of sandwich options - once you choose your filling, you can select how you want your sandwich prepared (cold or hot) and the type of bread (ciabatta, seeded, whole grain, focaccia). I got the Alidoro cold with focaccia - I would say I'd get the focaccia warm but it helped balance out the hot peppers and hot spread. I've also tried the La Primavera hot with the seeded bread - really love the bread choice but the filling was a bit lacking. used to love this place when moynihan first opened but it seems they've fallen off. i usually go there when i have time to kill before a train but this time i ordered ahead since i had limited time. they forgot most of what i ordered on the sandwich, 3.50 for burrata, 1.50 for arugula, and .75 for a pickle on the side. the sandwich was literally just prosciutto and sauce. that is extremely unacceptable after paying almost $30 for a sandwich. never got any refund for the items I paid for and didn't get and there was no communication from staff about why those items were missing. read more

Had a pretty mediocre breakfast sandwich from here for about $8. I had the Carlo with egg, porchetta, and Parmesan. It was neither sizeable nor outstanding, but it did hit the spot. The porchetta was really tasty but it was overpowered by a passive egg patty that the teeny tiny bun could barely hold. They have quite a few egg sandwiches on the menu for breakfast, all of which with similar combinations of egg/meat/cheese. You can pick any bread to put it on and I went with the Whole Grain baguette. They give you a buzzer so you know when your order is ready. Mine was ready so quickly, which was great since I didn't have a ton of time before my train. The sandwich was HUGE and definitely big enough for two meals. This would be great for a long train ride. The flavor of the sandwich was PERFECTION. I loved the creamy burrata mixed with the prosciutto and spreads. You can tell they use really high quality ingredients. Stopped in for a sandwich before the train when there was no line. It's pricey but the portion was decent. At 2pm they had all their ovens off for cleaning so no hot sandwiches were available which was kind of bizarre because half the sandwiches are hot. I went with the spicy sandwich cold then and my fiancé got a turkey sandwich. I'll say both the seeded and the ciabatta bread were hard. We asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on the side and they forgot it but did include napkins at least. Whoever's idea it was to put speck in a soft roll breakfast egg sandwich shouldn't be allowed to make sandwiches anymore. It's not diced up or anything, just one big slab of meat you can't bite through. So you either eat it in one bite or struggle through it. Not something a person on the go should have to deal with. We eagerly searched for the best Italian sandwich shop in New York City (according to the Infatuation) and were surprised to come across Alidoro in the Moynihan train terminal. I typically don't associate train halls with quality food, so figured it was worth a shot. The staff was really helpful. They guided us through the menu of hot and cold sandwiches and gave recommendations on meats and breads (none of which I was familiar with except prosciutto and focaccia). We ordered the Alyssa with Porchetta on Foccacia and the Pinocchio on Smonolina. Both very different types of sandwiches - the Alyssa was fresh and airy while the Pinocchio was quite dense and salty. Both great, but depends on your preference. I would certainly come back if looking to grab food and go. During my first visit to Moynihan Train Hall there was just something about Alidoro that made me choose it over its competitors (worth noting that I LOVE their next door neighbor, Maman, and had plenty of time to wait in the bagel line). I'm very glad I did! The very welcoming, professional and proficient cashier kept the line moving without making the experience feel rushed, the folks in that kitchen were hustling, I loved the little buzzers they give you so you know when your order is ready (and to ensure the right bag goes to the right person), and the two women collecting said buzzers and handing out said bags were nice to everyone. That sammy was something else! Even though I didn't get much hint of parmesan on my sandwich (next time I'll sub mozz) this thing was hot and fresh, with delicious bread (awesome crunch and crumb to the crust with a nice bounce to the tender inside), the fluffiest eggs in the business, very generous portion of porchetta for the price, and that hot pepper spread! Bottle. It! Plus the packaging is simple but pretty dope, giving you one last build of anticipation as you pull it out of the bag and unwrap all that goodness. Clearly I'd recommend giving them a go, enough so that I'd cross the street from Penn Station (or pop in if passing by), grab me some Alidoro, and then go on my very merry way. Bought a Pinocchio on Focaccia yesterday and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was slightly crispy on the outside and very fluffy as you sink your teeth into it. The combination of salty prosciutto and sopressata worked amazingly well with the sweetness of the roasted peppers and the brininess of the olive tapenade. Alidoro was one of the food vendors in Moynihan Train Hall. I had read some good reviews about this NYC chain Italian sandwich shop, so I wanted to try one of the sandwiches. I went with the hot Fratalli sub. It contained porchetta, mozzarella, sweet peppers, arugula, lemon basil presto, and a hot spread in French bread. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I had ever eaten. All the ingredients were in harmony with each other. Finally, the hot spread tied all the ingredients together and gave the sandwich a hot and addictive kick. The only negative was the $18.50 sticker price.
